This is simply appaling and disheartening.

Betrayal ain't the proper word!

Down with the CCP. Boycott going to China, Hong Kong, Tibet and the rest of China.

The true Chinese government is in Taiwan.

Disgusting. The world needs to boycott Hong Kong and China completely. Awful, disgusting places.

They are both ruled by evil people who despise freedom, democracy and justice.

Anti-democracy, pro-authoritarian movements around the globe are increasing their efforts to further weaken democratic states. They must feel good seeing what's happening in Hong Kong, Myanmar and elsewhere.

I don't.

How dare they speak truth to power and not kiss Xi the Pooh's hiney.

And just like that... democracy was snuffed out.

The Chinese are old hands and have perfected the devious game of  杀鸡儆猴; shājījǐnghóu;  (kill chickens - scare monkeys). The punishments will be carefully calibrated to warn dissidents and discourage disobedience to the government, and sentences handed down by a cowed and cowardly judiciary venally serving, as is the wont of their ilk, the selfish interests of their politician masters, not the disinterested demands of democracy and justice.

So much for waiting until 2047......Hong Kong was a nice place to visit but never again for us.

NOW, can we boycott Beijing 2022?

Have to wait for sentencing, but anything besides "time served" won't be good.

The CCP don't respect Chinese human rights, let alone that of HK. They ain't got a leg to stand on here. These convictions are kangaroo, a total sham. Shame on the CCP!

sad, and (hopefully not) a sign of things to come given the current state of affairs.

Hong Kong should have been made a democracy before the change in 1997. Why were direct elections not introduced when it was under British rule?

You mean to tell me that China had influence over Britain pre 1997? If Britain couldn’t introduce direct elections when it was a colony because of the power of a 1990’s China, then Hong Kong sure is not going to turn under a 2020’s China.

Handing the colony over to China and leaving its fate in the hands of China was a major miscalculation.

Isn't it strange that for over 100 years the British colony of Hong Kong had no democracy at all and everybody was fine with it. But of course China.... BAD!
