Hey America, where is MR Bin Laden? I thought you went to stop his tyranny, not spread US hegemony.

So sad that so many die in this futile war. Lest we not forget thye tens of thousands innocent Afghans murdered by the American air force.

If you watch some of the inbedded reporting on the fighting there, like Ross Kemp's series, it is hard to see what the point of much of the operations are.

The Taliban must think by now that we are not committed to clearing them out of Afghanistan. Instead it seems our strategy is to win by killing them off one by one while civilian casualties rise and we lose the war of attrition at home in public consent.

We really have two choices. 1. Go in with the intent to really drive out the main Taliban forces and work to decimate them. 2. Negotiate a treaty with them and try to move past the current deadlock.

The status quo is not sustainable and the Taliban have all the time in the world to wait for us to give up and go home.

Afghanistan equals drugs and drugs equal money. Well-heeled Americans with dual nationality make heaps of money from poppies and they can dictate that Americans are sent to protect their concerns. Thus there will be no end to the war providing there is a market for drugs - unless drugs were legalised so there is no money to be made from them.

Another convenience of an occupied Afghanistan is access to the valuable minerals found there, and also it is seen as a good place to install a pipeline to run oil to ... to ... OH!!!! It's Israel! (What a surprise).

So Mr. & Mrs. Joe 'n Jane Sixpack you will just have to continue to be cannon-fodder for your betters. Look at it this way:- Whilst your sons are dying over there the likes of your wonderful, brave US politicians' sons can be saved.

Follow the money "Oy oy oy! just a leeeetle bit more!"

The americans need to pull back, i KNOW why they are there, but that purpose has gone now, but i think why they dont pull back is they've done to much damage and the afghanistan troops will probably follow them back to the US... and that will cause more troubles. They need to reach some sort of agreement, they went on a hunch and they were wrong.. you have to fix this, but somehow pulling the troops out and maybe working something between afghanistan, it may be the only way this fighting will stop.. but probably not completely.. the people will be stiring and the americans who hate the afghanistan people for the sake of hating will want it to continue.. -.- then it gets complicated, if incharge of australias troops id slowly pull them back.. nobody need to be there anymore.. fall back! please.

That's kind of like saying the drug war in Mexico should be blamed on European consumption of Mexican drugs.

jessicaa: They need to reach some sort of agreement

The Taliban have been trying to get some kind of dialogue going because they know they won't stand much of a chance of taking back Afghanistan as more NATO troops pour in.

Well lets hope they hurry up and make that agreement then..
