No anecdotes about what someone’s doctor/scientist friend said about the Covid or vaccines?

Still early I suppose.

Some other trials will be finishing in December, so some more choices will be possible. Each might be slightly better for people with existing conditions, so more options is good.

Hopefully, by summer, we'll all have the shot(s) after the people who really need them sooner get immunized.

At least this vaccine has the virus, in the vaccine to get a response

It does not, it has a different virus to deliver the RNA, that is the whole difference. In the mRNA vaccines lipids without proteins encapsulate the RNA, which means they are extremely fragile and cannot be kept for long time without being at ultra low temperatures. In this one the RNA is packaged into an adenovirus, that doesn't usually infect humans, so the RNA is protected by the viral proteins, once inside the cell both work in the same way.

At this point what the world needs is redundancy, each company wants to have the best vaccine ever produced, but for the general public it is just better to have many options to compare price, efficacy and safety. For all we know a 70% efficacy could be enough to break transmission in the general population, and the 90% option could be left for the people in high risk.

If it’s safe and effective, Amy of them. Just put it in my arm!

Cheaper than the other vaccines and can be stored in a normal fridge. I think this is it.

7 ( +11 / -4 )

I can't wait for life to get back to near-normal (as normal as possible). Unfortunately it will be too late for many people, some of whom died due to others' incompetence, ignorance and selfishness.

You get what you pay for. Food for thought.

Oxford vaccine is being sold at cost price they agreed that it shouldnt be sold at inflated prices to profit off other people misery. cost is around 4gbp per dose

It's great news at the end of a very bleak year. The 70% immunity should be enough to provide basic herd immunity, although those most at risk can take over of the others.

Good.

Cheaper vaccines are needed for the developing countries!!!

I think Trump-supporting non-mask “-wearing Covid pooh-poohers should refrain from taking any of these vaccines. You’ve said the pandemic is a hoax or not a big deal, so think about living by your words.

For all vaccines, we should wait for the data to be peer reviewed and made public; and not rely on Big Pharma press releases. But by then, most of us will likely be immune already.

Why would you imagine the vaccines would not be peer reviewed and data made public?

They aren’t coming tomorrow. Do you understand how this process works?

Press release? You think some guy on Twitter says it’s true so then everyone believes it is tru.......oh wait.

Dunno, maybe you could make up a conspiracy about it?

Someone will.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Wow up to 10x cheaperwith no profits

Of course development and production costs are different but assuming half the cost for this vaccine compared to the other two profits would still be 3x to 5x.

Nor bad.

that may become the vaccine of choice for the developing world.

What is the developing world ?

So, you are are from an underdeveloped world, as usual, you will be serve last, in case something is left on the table for charity purpose

Oups , my above post was wrong.

I was reading “developed” instead of developing. Apologies

Perhaps you missed the recent JT article "Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine deliveries could start before Christmas".

Perhaps you missed the word ‘could’.

It was in the headline.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Yeah, they could. And?

Dunno, maybe you could make up a conspiracy about it?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

My numbers are also incorrect =)

Anyway just wanna show business is really good.

In December, some other trials will be done, so some other options will be available. For individuals with current disabilities, each may be marginally better, but more choices are fine.

Yeah, they could. And?

Governments will buy the vaccines and give to their citizens free or affordable prices. Its not about profit making.

Not for the governments, anyway. Pharmaceutical companies are businesses and exist to make a profit for their shareholders. Can't really blame them for that.

As soon as any safe and effective vaccine is available, I am in the Line!

But I didn't expect anything before next year summer in Japan.

If the vaccine is implemented all over the world, and I hope that there are not so many vaccine deniers, the whole world can go back soon to a normal life.

But please send the bills to China!

Governments will buy the vaccines with their citizens' money and give it to their citizens "free" or affordable prices.

Some people are profiting tremendously.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

See what they can do when they put their minds to it? Didn’t take very long did it

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Can’t get 70% immunity when only 46% will take it if it is free.

vaccines alone cost $20-25, with 2 doses needed. That is just the vaccine. Storage, transportation, staff etc, probably $150 per person.

the 46% will probably be 25% if they have to pay.

That means that, overall, when both ways of dosing are considered, the vaccine showed an efficacy rate of 70%.

Cheaper but... 70% rate of efficacity lmao.

Keep that crap for you.

It does have a virus, that was isolated from chimp poop. I wonder what kind of cell line they are using to produce the vaccine. A monkey cell line? Human fetal cell line? No way I will ever get that vaccine.

For all vaccines, we should wait for the data to be peer reviewed and made public; and not rely on Big Pharma press releases. But by then, most of us will likely be immune already.
