My condolences and prayers for those who suffered loss and for the terrified survivors.

Kudos to the crew for getting that craft back to the airport, landing somewhat safely (given half of it in flames) and significantly evacuating what seems to be a number of passengers.

Sad news. Airline crashes with fatalities should be extremely rare these days due to expected high safety procedures for the pilots, crew, and mechanics for countries like this. I hope they'll release the cause of the crash as soon as humanely possible.

Tragic.

Forty one dead. Wow. What percentage of the total roster is that, I wonder?

Condolences to the impacted families.

Aircraft shouldn't have any issues with lightning strikes. They are designed to handle those. Most airliners are hit about once a year by lightning, a little more often in the USA.

Hopefully they won't rush the root cause analysis and miss the true cause. Keep the politicians out of the analysis.

Appalling footage, my heartfelt condolences to all affected. But the most disgusting aspect of what you can see in the videos posted is those beyond selfish people brining their carry on luggage off, an act strictly forbidden by human decency if nothing else. Unbelievably selfish, people burning to death and these grabbing their luggage. SO angry.

Sitting just behind the wing is the safest place.

Good thing is people survived.

Very tragic indeed.

RIP

This such a tragic disaster, my thoughts go out to the lost ones and there families, but I must praise the pilot for bringing the aircraft down as best as he could, when control systems start to fail it limits what actions you can do, but to fly around twice, trying to land with options running out, thats a good pilot. and the fire fighters they were on the ball to.

The Superjet entered service in 2011 and was the first new passenger jet developed in Russia since the fall of the Soviet Union.

It has been hit, however, by sporadic concerns over safety and reliability, including a December 2016 grounding after a defect was discovered in an aircraft's tail section.

The Sukhoi Superjet 100 hasn't had significant takers outside Russia because of that questionable safety and reliability of parts.

Unfortunately, in this particular crash, the rear of the plane slammed on the tarmac twice on landing, creating an inferno on the rear half of the plane where most of the escape routes are located (since that's usually the safer part of the plane). Less than half of the people survived by escaping to the front. RIP

Besides some passengers delaying with their luggage, it didn't help that the pilots didn't get rid of excess fuel before trying to land, and the fire trucks didn't follow normal protocol by following the plane as it landed on the runway to reduce elapsed time to put out any resulting inferno
