I’d like JT to sometimes report on other countries in the world hardly hit by the covid, and not always Australia always under lockdown for only a few cases

Abandoned it’s people by vertualy stopping all flights to stop the dreaded delta, well the shoe’s on the other foot now and we are in a better spot than them now. Ps thanks fellow countrymen

Sadly ,1 death a 90 year old lady if I’m correct

This is the way to keep deaths low, hospitals not at capacity and to reopen faster while keeping covid out of the community at large. Well done, keep it up.

If one person from 1000 cases have died it seems serious reason for full lockdown-Am I right?

pls correct me someone if I am wrong...

They don't have a lockdown because there have been many deaths, they have a lockdown to stop there being too many deaths. Acting early is the best way to deal with it.

Articles like this are misleading. Completely one-sided, they quote disingenuous politicians whose job it is to frighten people in order to entrench their own position, as well as people who support the decision. They rarely if ever have any quotes from people who oppose the lockdowns even though the number is growing fast but ignored by the corrupt mainstream media. If they do, they try to smear opponents as far-right extremists and/or anti-vaxxers. They lie by omission, failing to report much detail or any at all about death and infection rates for different age groups, as others have pointed out above. They fail to give context to the statistics, leading people to draw the wrong conclusions about how dangerous (or not) the current variant actually is, so as to justify the lockdowns and create unwarranted fear.

Basically it's propaganda, and lame at that. Edward Bernays would be dismayed.

Only the UK infection numbers were used by the PM and nothing metioned about deaths, which by coincidence runs at about 0.1%. Keep’em in fear to control them.

Happy days are here again as the Maxi-Cash dial gets primed for another burl. The playbook of those tasked with responding to each and every Covid emergency is always thus; trust in the ability of the magic pudding to funnel a cornucopia of goodies to all and sundry. In all but name, the universal income has arrived.

Why are they trying to ‘scramble’?

The virus has been around a long time now…

It is an interesting choice about Melbuoure. My friend lives there and she has issues with this (thinks it is over the top).

There’s always a bit of ‘synchronicity’ @Tokyo-Engr 9:18am within events, if we just look ‘a little closer’!

Isn’t this the same “Julius Ssekitoleko”, 17yr old Ugandan weightlifter who went missing in Australia in 2018?

Aussie’s definitely wouldn’t have let it happen post-Covid Outbreak (2020). Maybe @kurisupisu can shed some light?

It’s also the way to bankrupt businesses & put families under financial stress

Vaccinate, vaccinate, vaccinate.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

5th times charm, because lockdowns work, amirite?

Vaccinate, vaccinate, vaccinate.

Sorry to break it to you, but the most vaccinated countries on earth are showing signs that the vaccine is failing.

Yes, failing.

Only 1 way out of this. Protect the elderly as best you can, take care of your own health with exercise and get a life.

The RO has about the same fatality rate as the flu.

Get. A. Life.

Maybe it will work this time

How can it? Every following wave is higher than the previous, until sufficient people are immune, from getting the disease or working vaccines. With the low numbers there so far, there is potential for many more small but increasing waves. In other words, delaying doesn’t include avoiding.

delaying doesn’t include avoiding.

Delaying exactly equals avoiding. Do you not know what that word means?

And they only need to continue to avoid it until they work out their vaccine situation. Tough times, but they came this far, and will do it again.

To comprehend why most Australian states and also New Zealand fight so hard to keep people from dying during the covid pandemic you have to understand mateship.

Mates don't let their mates get sick or die.

It is why we react in shock and horror when we watch people like Boris Johnson talking about "freedom day" or Trump saying that only hundreds of thousands of people dying is a "good result". Plus there is widespread awareness of the potential nightmare of long covid so why risk that?

For better or worse we are different here. New Zealand's key slogan was "Team of 5 million". Australians did not even need that. Australians just intuitively know that it is best to get on with each other and look after each other.

We are one

But we are many

And from all the lands on earth we come

We'll share a dream

And sing with one voice

I am, you are, we are Australian

Yeah, I’ve seen how your country fights so hard - like a policewoman giving a violation ticket to a couple removing their masks as they exit - as they EXIT - a store. Police roughing up people there all the time over Covid, supposed mask violations.

How many more lockdowns when a few cases pop up? 15? 20?.

Your attempt to describe Australia as mateship is strange. Mateship is what it once was. They were taken over by feminism long ago.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Although stubborn pockets of it still linger, the mateship ethos, and the associated Jack’s as good as his master, egalitarianism, is definitely in retreat. It never stood a chance against the wily go getters who never bought into it in the first place and whose cynical realism now defines what it means to be Australian.

It’s also the way to bankrupt businesses & put families under financial stress

That is why the federal government is handing out financial assistance to businesses and families that need it.

I am also living through Melbourne's fifth lockdown and can personally attest it is needed and the majority, though tired of covid, recognize and support it.

@Peter14 I have noticed that pensioners, unemployed, and the rich don't seem to care about the lockdowns

Few people "don't care" about the lockdowns. But it's an easier situation for some to deal with than others.

but anyone that has to go out day to day to put food on the table thinks differently...but maybe that is just my thinking correct me if im wrong.

This is a binary mindset. It's possible to not like covid, to find the lockdowns very difficult to deal with, and still be willing to do it for your countrymen. If you've never lived in Australia, it's a bit hard to understand their feeling of teamship and togetherness they have. The video michaelqtodd posted earlier gives a bit of an idea of it.

Yeah, I’ve seen how your country fights so hard - like a policewoman giving a violation ticket to a couple removing their masks as they exit - as they EXIT - a store. Police roughing up people there all the time over Covid, supposed mask violations.

And this is another example of that binary mindset. People aren't on one side or the other. It's a spectrum, and of course a few people are going to say "F&$k the government and covid" and break the rules. Australia is also a bit authoritarian, and that's why you see the results of those who are breaking the rules that you mention above. But the idea that these people make up any significant portion of the population can be seen by looking at the massive support by the people of Australia for the actions their government has taken in regards to Covid since it started. See the comments of Australians in this thread for example.

Notice how the only people disparaging it are doing things like talking about economic hardship without realizing there is government support and the economy is doing better than anywhere else? These people don't know Australia. They're just spouting Twitterism talking points that they've heard in their media bubbles about why lockdowns are bad, and are trying to apply those talking points to a place where they just don't work.
