@Simian Lane So let them eat the grass in their yards?
I understand the desire to curb or eliminate meat consumption, but the land reserved for meat production is not converted to farmland, people are going to go hungry. Conversion will take a lot of time and hungry people during a pandemic is a really bad idea.

Yeah, good luck with that! Telling people you're going to shut down for six weeks or whatever and no leaving the house on pain of arrest, and you think they're not going to bulk up?
Monty
Like I already said yesterday this guy, Daniel Andrews, is an Idiot!
What is he expecting? Put the people in a kind of prison for 6 weeks and want them to say thank you or what?
It is absolutely normal and human that people get into panic buying.

Sorry to see the politicians ordering this economy-ruining lockdown.
I hope to see some civil disobedience with people keeping their businesses open in a safe manner and police refusing to close them down or arrest them.

@monby
Sorry to hear you are having enduring the curfew. Ganbare Victoria! Have some ice cold beer, but wash your hands beforehand!

That’s the spirit! Fight

Imprisoning an entire state of 250,000sq/km over the death of 137 people, of which 113 lived in nursing homes and whose average age was 85.
For this, 500,000 jobs from a workforce of 2.5 million are projected to be lost. The suicide rate is already sharply climbing along with increased drug and alcohol abuse, domestic violence and more.
This is an massive overreaction resulting in disastrous social consequences.
Implement solid protections for the elderly, but let everyone else be free to live and work.

The Victorians voted their Marxist leaning government in. So I suppose they are getting what they asked for, Communist style dictatorial control and no mercy on the poor working class. Of course the overlords who issue the edicts still have THEIR jobs.
(My heart goes out to the minority voters)
Fines for not wearing a mask out in the wide open air, parks, etc.
Violent arrests of even female dissenters.
Military and armed police patrolling the streets Tiananmen Square style.
Stop and frisk style on the spot interrogations.
Etc.
May God have mercy on Victoria, heal the sick and restore the community.

Yeah, why would we protect old people? They've had their run. We all know they are the most expendable demographic of society. And we know they would never take measures that would result in the restriction of profit flow to the elites, in order to protect the health of our demographics.
Strangerland
This is unacceptable. The labor MUST NOT stop the flow of profits to the elites. This is the most moral offense one can imagine in a capitalist society.
Profits are god, and must be respected above all.
Strangerland
Who cares about their community? May God have mercy on Victoria, and get the labor force back working so the profits can properly flow to the elites.

The first thing people will do after hearing the government tell them not to panic buy will be to rush immediately to the nearest store to bulk up on essentials. I bet toilet paper is getting hard to come by in Melbourne about now.
Britta H
Tell people not to leave their houses they will buy food and essentials in large quantities. I would and did.
Strangerland
I think that was the initial freak out, when no one knew anything. With a lot more information now, people aren't as likely to react with such raw emotion.
How do I know this? There is literally not a single rush on toilet paper going on in Australia right now.
Britta H
Toilet paper was not a sensible large quantity buy, that was a knee jerk reaction to the ick factor by your average redneck. Canned and dried food is a different matter. If you are ordered to stay inside why on Earth would people with the means not ensure they have sufficient food and meds for the family?
Strangerland
Are they doing that?
yoshisan88
People do not have to stay at home all day. They can go out to buy essential items everyday. However, only one person per household can leave home to get necessary goods and services and only once a day within 5km of their homes (unless no store is within 5km of their homes).
Britta H
One large shop, with one risk taken. Or multiple trips out for smaller quantities. Doesn't take a genius to work out what's better.
