Australian state of Queensland hit by once-in-a-century floods

Not so far away? About 4,000 kilometers away to be precise.

hopefully, the runoff from these floods will reach the Darling river system (in a few months) and restore the flow, if the runoff is not caught by the cotton farming dams in south-western Queensland.

Wow, hating to think what might be swimming around in that water. Nightmare! Not a place for wimps.

Yes - quite a distance away.

But Nth Queensland was hit by "once in millenium" fires a few weeks back burning huge areas, including tropical rainforest. Took weeks to stop.

Much of the state was in drought status, and 2 weeks ago the mentioned city of Townsville was on severe water restrictions.

Now some places have had up to 2,000ml of rain. Townsville has been flooded for days and will continue to be for at least hte coming week.

That's some serious weather hits.

Because, mostly through removing forest cover from a very large percentage of where it had grown before, and replacing it with harder fast runoff surfaces, consolidating river systems to Dams for hydroelectric green power production and agricultural irrigation, coupled with dirtying the air, where it normally mixes with warm air, to patchy hot air, we over say two hundred years, with concern only for profit, permenantly charged flow patterns to create atmospheric rivers and polar vortexes.

It is US, mankind, that is MESSING with things & mother nature is simply dealing with the changes WE are making, but yes she IS the ultimate force in nature & if we continue to muck the earth up SHE will make us PAY, in fact she has been doing so for a few decades but too many cant seem to connect the dots!

That said I don't wish rain, fire, drought, snow storms on anyone BUT they are will CONTINUE to happen & it will get worse

Generally forest fires and brush fires occur in regions hit by drought and dry conditions. Obviously it is not raining in areas suffering drought..so why would you expect rainstorms to appear to quell the fires?

What goes around comes around - both the current US and Australian governments deserve more any other to experience the seeds they seem so happy to sow. Very sorry for all the citizens effected but if the ever longer stream of extreme weather events they are both experiencing finally forces these governments to take climate change seriously, everybody will ultimately be better off.

Mother Nature can be really cruel at times hitting the same country with record heat, drought and flooding all at once. But the Aussies are tough, they'll get through this.

It would be unusual indeed if records for a weather event were not set somewhere in the world darn near every day. Just checked my local weather, coldest ever on this day was in 1887 and hottest was 1907. Tax me quick!

QLD government said on the radio that they cant control the weather up north with the flooding.

Then please explain to me why are we being forced to pay taxes for climate change .

If i pay a tax for something, i want to see results !!
