You’re advocating for the responsible to pay for the irresponsible. That’s akin to saying, just stay away from murderers and you won’t get murdered.

That was a terrible attempt at an analogy. You are trying to say that those not obeying the bureaucracy are intentionally try to kill another human being. Wouldn’t it be easier to use a knife?

The responsible don’t have to worry about any thing. They will avoid exposing themselves to those that do not meet the standards they hold themselves to. What you are advocating is control.

You do realize that the WHO now is AGAINST lockdowns, or did you miss that?

You can't replace lockdown with nothing," Dr. Mike Ryan, executive director of WHO's emergencies program, said at a recent briefing. Stressing the importance of a well-informed and committed population, he added, "We are going to have to change our behaviors for the foreseeable future."Any government that wants to start lifting restrictions, said Tedros of WHO, must first meet six conditions:

1. Disease transmission is under control

2. Health systems are able to "detect, test, isolate and treat every case and trace every contact"

3. Hot spot risks are minimized in vulnerable places, such as nursing homes

4. Schools, workplaces and other essential places have established preventive measures

5. The risk of importing new cases "can be managed"

6. Communities are fully educated, engaged and empowered to live under a new normal

Perhaps people within the WHO are as conflicted on just what is best as the general public seems to be if your comment is also correct?

the WHO are against lockdowns too?

They must be right-wing trash...

The problem is people not wearing masks or staying two meters away from others, so Big Brother has to step in. A lot of people are selfish and a lot also don’t “believe” in science.

What is stopping the “others” from staying away from those without masks? Nothing. If you are a believer in science I can’t see any reason why you would stay near a deplorable. Just walk away. That’s the personal responsibility part. Again - what’s the big deal? Darwin will sort out those horribles who fail to heed the Orwellians.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

I don’t get what the big deal is. As-long-as you wear a mask and stay 2meters away from other people the science says you are safe. Masks - if you are considered about others - problem solved. Does Big Brother not have anything better to do ?

Nippori Nick - You actually dare to make the comparison of life in Australia to life in a concentration camp? Better study up on WW2 and learn the difference.

Being Australians, and associates of the British commonwealth, his friends and family are probably referring to the concentration camps of the Second Anglo-Boer War. A war which preceded WW2 by some 50 years.

Strangerland:

From the quoted article:

* “The only time we believe a lockdown is justified is to buy you time to reorganize, regroup, rebalance your resources, protect your health workers who are exhausted, but by and large, we’d rather not do it.”*

I think that is pretty clear. 9 months into this epidemic, it is hardly the "situation to buy you time to reorganize, regroup, rebalance your resources, protect your health workers."

Peter14:

No bob, it is you that ignores the science and the facts. Your reading from fake news sites the same as Trump does. Not good company to have bob. The huge majority of scientists and doctors, the CDC and WHO agree that lock downs are the most effective way to curtail the spread of this pandemic.

There are two types of people.

The selfish, who go on about freedom and masks and not wanting to give up an inch for people's lives.

And adults.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

I had it right the first time, Peter14. You are comprehensively wrong. 6500 scientists and medics say people like you are deniers of science. I tend to agree.

To ignore the facts is to cover your eyes and just hope it all goes away by some miracle. It wont. You couldn't be any more wrong if you tried with all your might bob. But you have every right to be wrong.

Dailymail, lol

This isn’t the first time this has happened.

A subject requiring the views of specialists is met with a link to a toilet rightwing tabloid talking about 30,000 people ( what people? ) after herd immunity.

Again, it’s people turning up for work in crocs and thinking having a crap in the urinal is funny.

It would be funny if it wasn’t so dangerous

A rightwing tabloid?

Trash.

there are 2 kinds of people concerning the virus. Those that are so scared beyond all rationality that they quickly and willingly give up their basic human rights to the nanny state.

There are those with zero social conscience who want anarchy, like you bob.

Then there are those who understand society has rules for the benefit and safety of all.

Get on the right side of the discussion bob. be a good boy and uphold your social obligation to follow the laws and rules that protect us all. The facts do not lie. Melbourne had a spiraling out of control covid problem but since lock down the spiraling rate of infections and deaths has gone down as projected saving thousands of lives. And whats more over 70% of the population of Melbourne agree with the actions taken by the state government to deal with the issue. Figures any politician would be happy with come election time or on any issue. Your opinion is let it ride, let it kill and lets be free of rules and laws. No anarchy for Melbourne bob. Just good sense and policies that have proven effective. Sorry if your put out but others lives are worth much more than a temporary lock down and your inconvenience.

@bob

The people who originated that petition are far from "crazy," they are serious professionals. Funny how it has not been reported much in most countries. Obey!

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Fixed it for you bob. It is now factual and honest. You had the false version.

Just lock up the seniors, overweight folks and people with diabetes and let everyone else out of this 21st century jail. If Victoria ever pardons its citizens, SARA-CoV-2 infections will return so it is pointless to cause this level of misery. BTW collective punishment, which is what this is, is considered a war crime.

My friends and family tell me they are living in a concentration camp.

You actually dare to make the comparison of life in Australia to life in a concentration camp? Better study up on WW2 and learn the difference.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

The scientists have spoken. Lockdowns not only work, but have proven beyond doubt that they save lives. Those countries not locking down when inundated with positive covid cases are losing tens of thousands of lives. There is no better strategy to handle this pandemic.

Fixed it for you bob. It is now factual and honest. You had the false version.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

The scientists have spoken. Lockdowns not only don't work, but will cause far greater loss of life than they pretend to save.

Andrews is a disgrace to the country and freedom loving citizens everywhere.

What’s the opposite of downplaying the virus? Oh yeah, this is.

That leads literally even more down under. lol

Ah, because some prefer to "safety" under totalitarian oppression rather than a little liberty. I feel sorry for the good people of Australia who just want to live their lives freely. Truly Orwellian reality.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

Victorians were awarded the same lenient distancing restrictions as the rest of Australia. However, many chose to ignore the restrictions and do their own thing, which resulted in unprecedented community infections

wow sound like another country whose leadership choose to ignore the seriousness of the pandemic, resulting in one of the highest infection and fatality rates in the world

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Victorians were awarded the same lenient distancing restrictions as the rest of Australia. However, many chose to ignore the restrictions and do their own thing, which resulted in unprecedented community infections and brought on the stricter isolation and quarantine rules. Of course, it was only an irresponsible minority that created the hotspot outbreaks. It is their irresponsibility that has brought this about, not the premier and the government.

Never would've thought that the fun-loving, freedom-loving, pioneer-spirited Aussies I knew back in the 80s and 90s would roll over like this and take it from these tin-pot Marxist power-hungry freaks. What the hell happened to Australia's soul?
