To promote a $1.8 trillion plan he said is needed to compete with China

America is totally frightened by China and the Chinese now! LOL

-10 ( +6 / -16 )

It's so refreshing to have a normal president who isn't an ignorant thin skinned narcissist.

9 ( +18 / -9 )

What a great return to normalcy, inclusiveness, and competence....after four years of nothing but two-year old tantrums....

They should have divided the seating into three groups; the Dems, the pro-Trump Repubs and the pro-Liz Cheney Repubs...

7 ( +15 / -8 )

Biden argued that the spending plans were needed to keep up with China, which his administration sees as a major strategic challenger.

"China and other countries are closing in fast," he said.

I have been tired of America's World Policeman stance since World War 2. The world does not need us to waste our time, treasure and youth on foreign wars. Protect our borders not those in the Mideast or Asia. Europe can protect themselves. All this warmongering by the neoclowns just feeds the Military. Just think what could be done for the America people if we weren't squandering our riches on other nations. Bring that military might to bear on our southern border.

Ahh, wouldn't that be grand?

-10 ( +2 / -12 )

I like what Brit Hume said, regardless of which President gives these speeches at the Capitol, the best part of them is the "end part."

Tim Scott at least was more sincere, but I don't think we will hear the left talk about the Republican side take of the speech, especially Scott being the wrong color. Gotta be careful commenting on that. I do love how he said that the US is not a racist country and that the left is using race as a political issue and wedge, spot on! Hope to see more from the guy.

-9 ( +7 / -16 )

and $109 billion for free community college regardless of income for two years

Can you imagine how insanely competitive the US would be if this passes?

8 ( +16 / -8 )

Can you imagine how insanely competitive the US would be if this passes?

"If?" As typical with the left and not understanding mathematics or how it is applied, who's going to pay for all of this?

Again, please continue to help the GOP, don't let up Joe!

-10 ( +9 / -19 )

"If?" As typical with the left and not understanding mathematics or how it is applied, who's going to pay for all of this?

Do I read beliefs in fiscal conservatism returning after a four year break?

10 ( +16 / -6 )

We had a President in the room speaking with sincerity, maturity and intelligence for the first time since 2016.

Republicans looked really shell shocked. I think they know they aren't liked right now.

8 ( +14 / -6 )

Horrible, horrible, horrible. Mao called and wants his economic policies back. If was fitting that Biden gave his speech to an empty House chamber - the emptiness matched his policy ideas. The best part of the night was watching Senator Scott give the rebuttal - the first black Senator from the South since reconstruction reminding Biden and the Democrat party how divisive they are and of the damage they are doing to the country. No doubt he will be attacked as an Uncle Tom and worse. Maybe we will even see the FBI find a FISA judge to issue a warrant to search his house. Biden is on the wrong side of history on race again.

-14 ( +7 / -21 )

Sounds good but who's going to pay for this? We all know that the wealthiest ppl will find a way out of it like they always do, raising corporate tax will have it's consequence too, so is it gonna be the Average Joe again?

-8 ( +5 / -13 )

Do I read beliefs in fiscal conservatism returning after a four year break?

Does this mean Progressives will stop complaining about deficits for the first time since 2016? See how that works- it’s only bad when the other guy does it right? No, it’s always bad. Just like Biden’s turn towards discrimination to fix discrimination- it’s always bad.

-13 ( +5 / -18 )

Sounds good but who's going to pay for this?

No one alive today will be paying for it that’s for sure - there s already $30 trillion in debt in front of Biden’s trillions more in deficits. I sincerely believe that on his current trajectory, Biden will topple Obama’s 2 term record for debt in three years or less. He just doesn’t give a whit about the nation’s future one bit

We all know that the wealthiest ppl will find a way out of it like they always do, raising corporate tax will have it's consequence too, so is it gonna be the Average Joe again?

-12 ( +6 / -18 )

Bass: As typical with the left and not understanding mathematics or how it is applied, who's going to pay for all of this?

Educating our population is an investment that produces returns. Much better to spend $109 billion for an educated population than stock buybacks.

8 ( +14 / -6 )

Does this mean Progressives will stop complaining about deficits for the first time since 2016?

Now that's funny. Repubs for years base their whole party's identity on fiscal conservatism - remember the TEA Party and the balanced budget amendment?

Then 2016 comes along and that core value gets dropped quicker than a Trump ex-wife...

Over the past four years we've seen trillions in stimulus bailouts, billions in subsidies, and the kicker, a $1.9 trillion UNFUNDED tax break for the Top 1%...

Just one more core principal the Repubs abandoned when they made their pact with the Devil...

7 ( +12 / -5 )

Do I read beliefs in fiscal conservatism returning after a four year break?

Compared to steroids the Dems are with their entitlement cradle to grave blank check spending, most definitely.

Educating our population is an investment that produces returns

I totally understand, but my question who is educating the popular...oh, I keep forgetting, the teachers don't teach, they're too busy partying it up on the Bahamas.

. Much better to spend $109 billion for an educated population than stock buybacks.

Seems like it's helping California real well. Lol

-10 ( +6 / -16 )

No one alive today will be paying for it that’s for sure

Really?

Just who pays your mortgage, your credit card and your car payment? Did you borrow money for them? Was that debt or was that an investment? What about college? Was that "wasteful spending"? (Perhaps on you it was) or was it an investment in the future?

AND WHERE WAS YOUR VOICE WHEN THE FORMER GUY GAVE 2 TRILLION IN TAX CUTS, 1/2 OF WHICH BENNEFITTED THE TOP 1%?

You were just fine with finances then.

7 ( +13 / -6 )

Ooooh, trump mad! He is really jealous because no one is listening to him. The GOP fundraisers at his places to swindle the rubes and sycophants are getting old. He also has to move to different locations for events because each one of his businesses are in debt. He needs to get people to pay high prices for rooms and rent.

To top it off, he can't even tweet to criticize Biden.

I predict trump will try to run again because he miss the TV attention!

6 ( +12 / -6 )

With the stroke of a pen, he will sign away Rights that were constitutionally guaranteed over two centuries ago, In peoples’ blood..Wait For It”.

-13 ( +3 / -16 )

America is totally frightened by China and the Chinese now! LOL

Ummm, hate to burst your bubble, but I don't think so.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

bass: I totally understand

Glad we agree. The masses get access to education and the rich, who will pay for it, will reap the benefits of an educated workforce and solid infrastructure. It's a win-win for everyone.

8 ( +12 / -4 )

And the GOP rolls out their sole black legislator to declare that "America is not a racist nation" in direct contravention to what we can all see with our own eyes.

Full disclosure: I am a white PR in Japan. I am an American.

Talk about Tokenism.....

His ratings were worse than the Oscar’s. Few Americans watched and among those that did, twice as many disapproved of his divisive and radical ways.

-9 ( +5 / -14 )

Wolfpack: He just doesn’t give a whit about the nation’s future one bit

Investing and education and infrastructure is evidence that someone doesn't care about the future?

Sounds like someone has been living on the GOP plantation.

9 ( +14 / -5 )

His ratings were worse than the Oscar’s. Few Americans watched and among those that did, twice as many disapproved of his divisive and radical ways.

Sounds like a disaster.

It goes without saying that you can back these numbers up and the source is non-partisan.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

His ratings were worse than the Oscar’s. Few Americans watched and among those that did,

Joe's approval rating is way above anything your idol ever achieved. He's more popular than Trump ever was.

twice as many disapproved of his divisive and radical ways.

Fake alternative facts are all you have left.

6 ( +11 / -5 )

And the GOP rolls out their sole black legislator to declare that "America is not a racist nation" in direct contravention to what we can all see with our own eyes.

The GOP has lost the ability to debate on any political platform, so they're left creating moral outrage with which they can drive anger and fear in the people, to gain votes.

"They're coming for your [fill in something scary]!!!"

5 ( +11 / -6 )

The masses get access to education and the rich, who will pay for it,

A lot won’t, a lot of people are taking their money out of the US again just like they did under Their Obama.

will reap the benefits of an educated workforce and solid infrastructure. It's a win-win for everyone.

But the Dems are not going to use the money for infrastructure maybe 5% at the most. The other 95%….more entitlement.

-8 ( +5 / -13 )

reminding Biden and the Democrat party how divisive they are

Oh yeah, Biden is so divisive he got 87% of the black vote! And 65% of the hispanic, 61% of the asian. Goes to show how "divisive" and "bigoted" the democrats are. They're so bigoted all the minorities rush to vote for them.

7 ( +12 / -5 )

Apparently Biden got higher viewership than any first address to joint congress of any president ever, and over twice what Trump got.

Just more proof of how the people hate Trump, and always saw him as a failure.

9 ( +13 / -4 )

But the Dems are not going to use the money for infrastructure maybe 5% at the most. The other 95%….more entitlement.

Have you studied this first hand? They are pretty accurate figures.

I hope you are not just parroting right wing talking points.

Give us a summary.

8 ( +12 / -4 )

I am not sure who Pres. Biden thinks can pay for his wish list- the top ten percent already pay 71% of the income tax in the US. If he wants to focus on jobs, he need only look back at his predecessor. Under Trump, the US enjoyed the lowest unemployment levels (for all ethnic groups) in decades. Sorry, but a guy who hasn't had a job in the private sector in nearly half a century and never so much as ran a lemonade stand really doesn't make a compelling case.

-6 ( +6 / -12 )

Bass: A lot won’t

Good for you. Less cost.

a lot of people are taking their money out of the US again

Corporate America has been begging for education. The entire reason specialty visas exist is to cover the lack of Americans who can take those jobs. I mean educated jobs. Not the cheap jobs people like Trump imports immigrants for.

7 ( +11 / -4 )

Atilla: I am not sure who Pres. Biden thinks can pay for his wish list- the top ten percent already pay 71% of the income tax in the US.

That's because nearly all of new wealth creation flows to them. If that's the system we have, then it actually makes sense they would account for a majority of the taxes.

What situation were you imagining? The Top 5% taking most of the wealth and paying less than the other 95% because 95% is bigger than 5%?

7 ( +11 / -4 )

@Happy Day

His ratings were worse than the Oscar’s. Few Americans watched and among those that did,

Your lord and savior won't be tweeting any insults to help you feel better about your political-support decisions!

Poll: 50% of Republicans support GOP over Trump

Oh.....my!

4 ( +9 / -5 )

the top ten percent already pay 71% of the income tax in the US.

The top ten percent hold over 70% of the wealth, so they should be paying at least 70% of the income tax.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

How nice it is to once again have a president that can speak in complete sentences, who has empathy instead of narcissism, who can objectively weigh the costs and benefits of a policy proposal, who can make America about something more than himself.

I don't even care what the former guy's (lower case intended) supporters say, they don't matter (to the extent they ever did) anymore. America is back, baby. And this time we have a rational, competent, sane leader who actually won the election.

6 ( +11 / -5 )

trump:

MAGA!

Biden:

We just did!

5 ( +9 / -4 )

After all of the partisan bickering by the usual suspects, the only thing I can think of to say is: So?

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Good for you. Less cost.

Yes.

a lot of people are taking their money out of the US economy again

Corporate America has been begging for education.

Ok, so once agree screw blue collar workers, at least you’re honest, appreciate it. Keep helping the GOP

The entire reason specialty visas exist is to cover the lack of Americans who can take those jobs.

What jobs??? Thanks to the Dems there nothing to go back to, but I get your point, blue states can continue to live in a nations populated with low skilled workers

I mean educated jobs. Not the cheap jobs people like Trump imports immigrants for.

Ahhh, so it’s a crime if a plumber makes 85k a year, can’t have that! How does that look now? I went to an Ivy League University and make thousands and this blue collar is making almost as much with less education, we need to change that. Sup, love it, keep helping Trump and the GOP for 2022. Texas is definitely looking fantastic for the right going in.

-9 ( +3 / -12 )

> Under Trump, the US enjoyed the lowest unemployment levels (for all ethnic groups) in decades

Lol Donald left office with a higher unemployment rate than he went in with.

Biden declares U.S. 'on the move again' in first speech to Congress

Well, I suppose moving backward to the bad swamp policies of the past qualifies as "on the move"; so I cant say he is wrong.

-7 ( +5 / -12 )

bass: Ahhh, so it’s a crime if a plumber makes 85k a year, can’t have that! How does that look now? I went to an Ivy League University and make thousands and this blue collar is making almost as much with less education, we need to change that.

Have a good night.

The top ten percent hold over 70% of the wealth, so they should be paying at least 70% of the income tax.

We pay more than enough of our fair share of you want to call it that and who is Biden to say how much money I’m allowed to keep? None of their business what I do with my money, I earned it, you want to make it, do it on your own. I didn’t study work long and hard to float others, just because Democrats want to get rid of jobs that they hate and think is bad for the country? Then they should go deep into their pockets and take care of the unfortunate and it’s amazing that these foolish rich liberals vote for people like Biden, but they don’t want Biden to take their money, just astounding and shows what hypocrites the left truly are.

-11 ( +4 / -15 )

Lol Donald left office with a higher unemployment rate than he went in with.

Thanks to China

-9 ( +4 / -13 )

Thanks to China

Ahhh yes, the party of personal accountability at it again. Is it also China's fault Donald told people not to wear masks? Is it also China's fault he misled the American public?

5 ( +9 / -4 )

We pay more than enough of our fair share of you want to call it that

If you have 70% of the wealth (you?? lol) if you're not paying more than 70% of the taxes, then you're not paying your 'fair share'.

who is Biden to say how much money I’m allowed to keep?

He's the duly elected president of the United States, elected in a landslide with the largest percentage of the popular vote in a challenge to an incumbent since the 1932 election, with highest number of votes ever cast for a presidential candidate in the highest voter turnout since 1900. Go against Biden, you go against the majority of The American People.

9 ( +12 / -3 )

Ahhh yes, the party of personal accountability at it again.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/what-happened-to-the-economy-under-trump-before-covid-and-after-11602713077

Is it also China's fault Donald told people not to wear masks? Is it also China's fault he misled the American public?

Biden told us we should wear two masks, he told us we didn’t have to wear masks once we got vaccinated. He said, blue collar workers in the fossil fuel industry have nothing to worry about, let not talk about faults and promises because as of now, Biden doesn’t have the gold seal trust in that department.

-10 ( +4 / -14 )

I watched the speech. Joe knocked it out of the park.

The former guy's spammers must be stammering for something to complain about.

8 ( +12 / -4 )

GdTokyo: The former guy's spammers must be stammering for something to complain about.

The conservative bubble will take care of that. They'll tell a guy with a wife and 2 kids making $75,000 a year that he will be the one responsible for paying the taxes.

Works every time.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

President trump in 2024. Let's get rid of this senile old git.

-9 ( +3 / -12 )

the fossil fuel industry...

...is causing lung cancer, and we have electric cars coming soon anyway

The guy though is making me smile for the GOP in 2022

And who is going to run against the Dems?

I earned it...

...in Japan and you just pay Japanese tax with it.

Thanks to China

Just an excuse. Billionaires are not complaining. What's the problem?

I went to an Ivy League University and make thousands

Me too but I make millions

But the Dems are not going to use the money for infrastructure

Trump did! For a wall and all you need is a five dollar ladder. He couldn't even finish the wall anyway.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Biden told us we should wear two masks, he told us we didn’t have to wear masks once we got vaccinated.

And none of that changes the fact that Donald knew Covid 19 was critically serious and yet he lied to the public about how dangerous it was. Donald's inept management got half a million Americans killed. Not China.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

Thanks to China

Trump was so bad that even China beat the US in the COVID-19 war. Then Trump had the bright idea of injecting Mr. Clean to fight the virus. You really can't make this stuff up about what Trump says. Trump is too thin skinned to be president. He didn't get anything done because he was too busy complaining about how his feelings were being hurt. He can't even build a wall.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

And none of that changes the fact

Oh, yes it does when you’re running a race and you’re way ahead of your opponent and someone throws a banana peel under your that’s not on you, but the person trying to sabotage your race.

Donald's inept management got half a million Americans killed. Not China.

China released it and yet under Biden still millions are dying still and they’re wearing masks so….

-8 ( +4 / -12 )

I went to an Ivy League University

Trump University does not qualify as "Ivy League" :)

6 ( +10 / -4 )

China released it (just this time)

And Trump whined and whined about it while complaining about Obama and Hillary as well as CNN without doing anything. Other countries were not knocked out like the US because Trump said crazy things like to inject Mr. Clean to fight the virus. Besides, scientists are worried about future (and stronger) viruses coming from American factory style meat plants. COVID-19 is just the beginning.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

yet under Biden still millions are dying still

"Millions" are dying from Covid in America since Biden took office? That really is absolutely horrible! Especially since there have only been 574 000 deaths from covid since the beginning of the pandemic. Those poor unreported millions of people dying !!!!

4 ( +9 / -5 )

Oh, yes it does when you’re running a race and you’re way ahead of your opponent and someone

A banana peel? Lol Donald had the election handed to him on a platter. All he had to do was not lie. All he had to do was tell people how deadly Covid is and for people to plan accordingly.

throws a banana peel under your that’s not on you, but the person trying to sabotage your race.

and I again I'll say: the party of personal accountability at it again. Lolz

5 ( +10 / -5 )

Donald's inept management got half a million Americans killed. Not China.

China released it and yet under Biden still millions are dying still and they’re wearing masks so….

Biden’s approval ratings on dealing with Covid are impressive. He got on with the job with no injections of cleaning materials into the bloodstream suggested.
