Maybe West Taiwan is too stupid to notice that East Taiwan is already an independent sovereign democratic nation? And always has been.

China should get it's own house in order. Introduce real democracy, and stop saber rattling. And how about getting a grip on rocket man?

"No one should ever underestimate the resolve and ability of the Chinese armed forces to continue our course of threatening and bullying an island of cousins into pathetic submission. Might is right baby! This is the new norm, this is the new paradigm. Deal with it, or we will come after you too. The fact that Taiwan wants nothing to do with us and are willing to die fighting for their dignity and independence means that they will be crushed, one way or another.

Sexy stuff isn't it?

Honestly guys, what do you even say to that? It is pure madness and if the world goes to war for this it'll be madder still. Imagine all of the time and money that could be spent elsewhere if this ridiculous Mexican standoff were to be once and for all put to rest. There is no cure for madness though. Like none.

chinazi clowns.

TAIWAN FOREVER !!

Kyo-san: The indigenous people of Taiwan are not “Malay tribes”; the correct term is “Austronesian.” Their languages are related to those of Malaysia, the Philippines, and Polynesia, among many others. They constitute a tiny minority. The real issue here is freedom and equality before the law, not ethnicity.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

By the way, what are the exact reason that is making CCP stick to Taiwan island. ?

Anyone enlighten us?

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

It is the position of the current President that the USA is opposed to a violent change in the relationship between Taiwan and China, and that the USA will aide Taiwan militarily, if needed.

Of course, if Putin is successful in getting a friend elected to the White House, the American relationship with Taiwan will change.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Give Taiwan nukes. And they will not dare invade.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

@Yrral

Yes i know.

And by the way iam not Japanese !

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Ukraine has push the panic button, but Zelensky still find time to visit all these forum ,while sending untrained soldiers in a Russian meat grinder, short of attacking Russia or Belarus, Ukrainain are doomed Google Mac Bishop Untrained Ukrainain Soldiers

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Prior to President Biden’s administration, China was hesitant to pose a challenge to the WH

Had Russia invaded Ukraine prior to Biden's administration, furthering the likelihood of China following suit?

Oh dear, you weren't wanting me to not point out how circumstances changed were you? I hope I didn't just mess up you trying to somehow paint the former attempted-coup-in-chief in a nice light.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Prior to President Biden’s administration, China was hesitant to pose a challenge to the WH however the withdrawal from Afghanistan, the reopening of discussions with Iran, various Terrorist groups, lack of assistance to Ukraine & the Blind eye to our Illegal immigration problem on the Southern Border has demonstrated a weak response to standup to Abby altercations beyond Verbal !!!

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

Taiwan has got her own de-facto Independence, it is wise to keep mouth shut or never mentioning it.

Otherwise the "Very End" of Taiwan!

China & Taiwan were good brothers, if they understood China's message!

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

This is just China, trying too send a message too it local population,we are still in control of the domestic situation, why would Chinese risk trillion dollars in trade and US bond, the US hold

4 ( +4 / -0 )

China will risk a world-wide nuclear war to get Taiwan.

If Xi does nothing else, he will take Taiwan to cover his other failures.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

The only peaceful resolution possible is that China stops pretending they have any claim over Taiwan. The world knows this to be a ridiculous concept in the age of freedom.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

I’ve been to both. And the Taiwanese I know are clear that the Taiwanese government stated that position due to bullying by the CCP and fear of invasion by China. Taiwan is forced to state they are a vassal of China under threat of obliteration - it’s made under duress.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

China will "fight to the very end"

Never. the new China worships $$$ and it will never give that up for Taiwan.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

All these people with strong opinions on the situation. Raise your hand if you have visited Taiwan. Raise your other hand if you have visited China. Do a handstand if you have lived in both places like me.

Both governments on either side of the Taiwan Strait agree that there is only one China and that Taiwan is a province of China. Everyone wants a peaceful resolution.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Can't blame the Ch Communist Party. China has been imperialist expansionists since the Qin and Han Dynasties, ie, for 2,000+ years. So, historically it thinks Vietnam, Korea and a good part of Russia and all of Mongolia as its territories, not to speak of trying to own Taiwan 400 years ago when it was inhabited 100% by Austronesians. So the CCP is simply carrying on a Chinese tradition.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

If it wasn't for Communist China

China is not communist, any more than the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (aka North Korea) is Democratic, of the people, or a republic. Just because they call themselves something doesn't mean they are.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

Japanese cannot even defend their island from Russia

That's an entirely silly suggestion. The Japanese naval fleet is extremely strong, and now that we've seen just how much a failure the Russian army is, there is zero worry that the Russian navy could do anything to Japan, the Russian navy would be sunk instantly.

However, Japan's constitution prevents them from attacking to take the islands that they lost in WWII. This is offense though, not defense. If Russia ever tried to attack Japan, they'd look even stupider than when they attacked Ukraine, and they already look extremely stupid for that one.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

Long live the free and independent nation of Taiwan. All countries in the world need to stop pretending it isn't its own country just to appease the CCP. We need to stop appeasing authoritarian dictators - look how trying to appease Putin worked out for Ukraine.

7 ( +11 / -4 )

@Joseph

China hasn't fought a modern war in 100 years?

Did you forget Korean War when they poured in Yalu River directly engaging US/UN forces? If it wasn't for Communist China Korea would be united today.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

@KennyG

One China = BS

One Korea = BS

United States = BS

United Kingdom = BS

United Nations = BS

There's a whole lott BS going around !

-14 ( +3 / -17 )

When the South professed they wanted to secede from the United States in order to maintain slavery, its major source of income, Abraham Lincoln decided it must be prevented by all means, even resorting to war if needs be and even at the cost of the emancipation itself. Probably, Chinese Defense Minister's warning must be interpreted in light of these strong words of Lincoln's

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Kyo, Japanese cannot even defend their island from Russia,it the people of Japan, that should worry about Russian, now that have militarized Japanese island with missile can strike Japan at second notice

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

Taiwan should be returned to its rightful owners, the indigenous peoples who were there long before the Han Chinese who arrived on the coattails of the Dutch colonizers many years ago. The UN should declare it a self-governed indigenous UNESCO heritage site based on ecotourism and environmentally friendly industries such as wind energy, which benefit the true indigenous owners of this land

-6 ( +3 / -9 )

Taiwan was well on its way to being independent as the Republic of Samosa .

However after 5 months of the creation of Samosa Japan invaded Taiwan and colonized Taiwan for 50 years until Japan surrendered at the defeat of ww2.

Taiwan was recognized as its own country at one time and a major player in the creation of the league of nations which later became the UN but However Taiwan chose to relinquish its claim as a recognized independent country and chose to pursue a civil war with mainland china which resulted in an armistice/ceasefire but no peace agreement was ever signed.

Taiwan still claims to be the rightful government of all of China and is technically still in a civil war.

There are a few countries that would like to see Taiwan become independent but however it's more for their own selfish economic benefits.

Furthermore lets not forget the rightful owners of Taiwan are the indigenous aboriginal Malay tribes that the Chinese that now call themselves Taiwanese stole .

As usual the western powers and allies seek to take advantage of the Taiwan issue to stifle China by getting involved.

When the USA goes into it's own civil war again who will get involved - nobody !

The USA doesn't bully other nations and get involved in their conflicts without paying a price .

The USA is at a tipping point of getting involved in too many other countries issues and its going to backfire in a payback !

-12 ( +2 / -14 )

Thefu,if obviously the people of China have not had enough, Black people in the US,had enough oppression 60 years ago, during their liberation of oppression starting with the Civil Rights, maybe Chinese MLK will appear someday

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Taiwan is a country

8 ( +10 / -2 )

Taiwan hasn't claimed independence !

-11 ( +2 / -13 )

Hey China - Taiwan is already an independent country. The 1-country policy was how "the west" tricked China into leaving Taiwan alone for many, many, decades.

Get over it. You've lost.

The CCP can only use intimidation. There's a point when that won't work and the world will have had enough. That day is coming as the CCP shows their plans. There's only so much time that outsiders can be blamed and average mainland Chinese will believe the lies. China has caused nearly all the current problems in China today.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

People here either not familiar with the Chinese civil war background which led to mafia associate Chiang Kai-shek running away to Taiwan with US support, or blatantly support meddling in another country's affairs.

Either way doesn't matter, a positive upvote here indicates deficiency, and a down vote a badge of honor ONE THOUSAND PERCENT.

-8 ( +2 / -10 )

China will "fight to the very end" to stop Taiwanese independence, the country's defense minister vowed Sunday, stoking already soaring tensions with the United States over the island.

No doubt China will, so, US, stop provoking China.

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

Seems kind of stupid?

You have a country already, yet you'd die because you want to take over another one?

I guess China is super polluted etc but I mean, it can't be so bad you need to take Taiwan too?

1 ( +5 / -4 )

its Taiwan who cares

Taiwanese, quite a few Chinese and anybody else with a lick of sense.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

its Taiwan who cares

-13 ( +2 / -15 )

"Those who pursue Taiwanese independence in an attempt to split China will definitely come to no good end," he added.

He's wrong. Taiwan doesn't have to pursue independence. The ROC predates the PRC. The PRC is a separatist while the continent is a breakaway region.

Beijing might want to declare independence from Taipei. Taipei should acknowledge their independence by opening Taiwan's embassy in Beijing. The bilateral relation is a win-win for both sides across the strait.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Stick and Stone may break China bones, mere words should not hurt their fragile egos

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Both are Chinese . . . they find a mutually acceptable way to work together . . . .

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Sorry to be the one to break this to you, General Wei, but Taiwan is now, and has always been an independent nation, at least since 1949. At no time, ever, has the CCP or the government of communist China ever exercised sovereign powers over the people of Taiwan.

"Strategic Ambiguity" is exactly that, ie refusing to say what everyone with eyes can see: Taiwan's popularly elected governments are popular, and independent of the mainland. Otherwise, Taiwan is a great, independent, fully-developed NATION-STATE.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

China hasn't fought a modern war in a hundred years. The US on the other hand goes to war at the drop of a hat. China shuts down their country and locks up entire cities over a few deaths from Covid. The US takes a million deaths like it's nothing and the people still complain about wearing a mask. China talks tough, but they have no stomach for adversity. Not to mention not a single ally who can help them. So good luck with that "to the end" stuff.

5 ( +11 / -6 )

At the end, Japan will favor China, its close, its getting bigger and stronger and J-companies have invested huge sums in Chinese manufacturing. Go to Aeon, Daiei, Daiso, Seiyu, Ito Yokado, any shop- 95%+ goods are "Made in China". NHK openly sides with China in its opening and closing remark. Locals dont identify themselves with Yankees; they respect Chinese culture, discipline, cheap labor, Chinese obedient low wage loyal emplyees. There is nothing similar to western and everything close to China here.

And of course these is "Omote" "Ura" here. Honto no hanashi.....chuugoku suki da.....Homma Yasui.....

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

but can it sustain long term guerilla attacks?

Unfortunately China has plenty of experience in squashing dissent. The few million worst offenders or likely offenders will be moved out of Taiwan en mass to the established concentration camps currently housing minority uyghurs, and it will construct more, some locally, as required. The police force in China is massive at 1.5 - 2 million members. With military personnel on top they can control effectively and any terrorist uprising will be small and short lived.

It is much more certain that a large part of the population will find a way to leave through emigration and as political refugees. With the technological savvy they will be welcomed in Europe and around the world as well educated professional workers.

If Chine gets Taiwan it will be generations at the earliest before it can taste freedom again.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Instead, prepare for the worst. Get yourself another citizenship or residency in South or Central America.

Oh boy.

Have CASH ready (different currencies), not in the bank but in the envelope at home so you can be on the move within 8-10 hours after the war starts.

Gee wiz.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

I love Taiwan. May they keep their freedoms and views free from China.

9 ( +13 / -4 )

For years China had a one-child policy aimed at rearing sons whom have been pampered and spoiled beyond belief. These softies form a military that has never seen combat and will likely turn on their commie leaders soon after the shooting starts. The clown in the uniform saluting looks a character out of an episode of the Simpsons.

8 ( +11 / -3 )

Such an intimidating quote, but then you look at the picture of the guy….and laugh.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

When are they gonna invade the US, Chinese official have no say over their own lives

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Taiwan is already separated from China, geographicaly, politically, and socially. More communist politspeak, self deception, and propaganda.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

@ Larr Flint.

I thumbed you up but just out of interest what makes you so sure it’s coming? Thanks

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Taiwan is not Ukraine. It has no railroad links, and every CCP ship capable of crossing the strait is already targeted. The lucky few CCP ships that doe make landfall will encounter in-depth defenses, and then a population hostile to them. The global community will crack down on China severely, chocking its exports and, crucially, its oil imports.

Zhongnanhai has likely learned from Russia's Ukraine debacle. What it may have in mind, as Russia comes begging for help, is that portion of Manchuria, stretching up to the northernmost point of Sakhalin, blessed with natural resources and sparsely populated, that Russia nabbed from weakened Qing China during its westward expansion. China has no love lost for Russia. It may give aid - but at a price. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Aigun

4 ( +7 / -3 )

I'm not sure how an invasion would go. In the Ukraine, you have Russia invading areas that are friendly to Russian forces on the border with Russia. Even that wasn't easy.

But to invade Taiwan, you need to control the seas and friendly locals. Now, China does has the man power to just overwhelm the Taiwanese (kind of like what Russia is doing in the Ukraine at the moment) but can it sustain long term guerilla attacks? I also doubt Ospreys are going to make any difference in this battle.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

China vows it will fight to the end to stop Taiwan independence

If the headline is in fact true, it suggests China might not be the peace-loving nation its supporters have claimed. And to think there are people living in democratic nations who support authoritarian nations, wanting to see the west and democracies replaced in the new world order by China, Russia, Iran, North Korea and other states like them.

9 ( +14 / -5 )

No one can afford bigger problems there, not the West, not the Chinese, because Taiwan is a very important technology provider. You could potentially easily replace some of the Ukrainian wheat and sunflower oil by other things like delivering rice powder based bread and artificially produced oil or margarine to Africa and the Near East countries to protect them from those price raises and starvation, but who can ever replace Taiwanese tech knowledge, especially IC design and other related sophisticated products? That’s quite another dimension under global economic considerations and further needed development, also regarding energy supply and ecological or climate changes and the technology for that.

3 ( +9 / -6 )

Before Taiwan, China should deal with Omicron at home. Unfortunately that's a losing battle despite (because of) Beijing's zero covid stupidity.

8 ( +11 / -3 )

All Taiwan has to do is spank pla soldiers they will run back to China @ 5G speed without hindrance just like what happened in Indias Ladakh

1 ( +8 / -7 )

China will "fight to the very end"

Yes We will and we can as we don't to care about sacrifice levied on all those sheeple under CCP, no matter how much. This is like the same mind-set as what Putin or Russian , Kim and NK's dictators have had...

7 ( +13 / -6 )

One China = BS

One Korea = BS

Do make one under democratic process when all those dictators gone

9 ( +19 / -10 )

China + covid = one pissed-off world. They are fighting to the end to contain Covid, but they will never be able to contain a "one China" policy regarding Taiwan.

14 ( +22 / -8 )

China will "fight to the very end"

Come on China . You should have said that in 19 century if you knew what defines Chinese who can't even communicate with each other through standard Chinese language. You still have to mix English and Cantonese up

11 ( +20 / -9 )

The United States acknowledges that all Chinese on either side of the Taiwan Strait maintain there is but one China and that Taiwan is a part of China.

That was in 1972 when Chiang Kai-shek was still the president of Taiwan. He was a Chinese nationalist, and also supported the "one China" idea, albeit without the CCP in control. Things have changed since then, and it seems the majority of people in Taiwan want independence. I'd like to think that most countries in the world support the UN Charter's notion of the self-determination of peoples. But I'm not sure that's the case. Territorial nationalism seems to prevail among the bigger powers. Perhaps we need some smaller countries around the world to point the finger at the big ones, and tell them they don't get to decide what a country is.

"The US side declared: The United States acknowledges that all Chinese on either side of the Taiwan Strait maintain there is but one China and that Taiwan is a part of China. The United States Government does not challenge that position. It reaffirms its interest in a peaceful settlement of the Taiwan question by the Chinese themselves."

Shanghai Communiqué - 1972, Richard Nixon + Zhou Enlai

The US does not recognize China having sovereignty over Tawan as of 1982.

"Washington's "one China" policy, however, does not mean that the United States recognizes, nor agrees with Beijing's claims to sovereignty over Taiwan. On July 14, 1982, the Republican Reagan Administration gave specific assurances to Taiwan that the United States did not accept China's claim to sovereignty over the island (Six Assurances), and the U.S. Department of State informed the Senate that "the United States takes no position on the question of Taiwan's sovereignty."

Communist China spewing rubbish yet again.

The US, Japan, QUAD, AUKUS - and all defenders of democracy - are not going to sit by and allow the CCP take free democratic and independent Taiwan. There will be no repeat of Ukraine in East Asia, despite China's sick fantasies.

We all stand with and love Taiwan.

21 ( +39 / -18 )

It is too late. Taiwan has been a functioning independent nation for 73 years. Will China send it's forces back through time to 1948 to stop Taiwan independence? Perhaps a good movie for domestic consumption, but total fantasy.

China can not stop what has already happened. The CCP has never had jurisdiction over Taiwan, ever.

What China is threatening is to revive a civil war long since ended, in attempts to expand CCP imperial reach over people who want nothing to do with CCP rule. Use force in order to control those currently with self determining futures and significantly more rights than Chinese citizens.

China is so disgusting in its colonial aspirations of conquering the weak to expand an empire.

Strip freedom from 24 million people and make them all work for the CCP, keep their mouths shut, and do only what the CCP permits them to do.

Many millions would want to leave Taiwan and never return if CCP takes the island by force.

I simply find the CCP and Xi to be barbarians with stolen technology intent on conquest and regional domination followed by world domination in the longer run. God help Taiwan and the world.

35 ( +47 / -12 )

China will "fight to the very end" to stop Taiwanese independence,

What exactly is the "very end"?

Until everyone in Taiwan is dead? Until everyone on the planet is dead from a nuclear war started by China invading Taiwan? Without doubt, clearly China is a threat to the peace and stability of the region if not the world.

34 ( +47 / -13 )

And the world, will too.

Just like is going on now in Ukraine.

I'll be glad to help, I should be on my way back to Okinawa before too long.

Allah' Ak'bar.
