If Floyd "changed the world", so did Derek Chauvin. I don't know who he is, only that he is one of us, a man who for some reason, as yet unknown to us and perhaps even to himself, made a terrible mistake one day that ruined his life and robbed another of his. The only way we can understand Chauvin's fateful actions is to remember and ponder the words attributed to the crucified Christ who delivered the final verdict on us all: Father, forgive them, they know not what they do.

Businesses need to be on high alert and pay attention when sentences are given. They already should have insurance though I heard many companies don't offer coverage in the case of rioting and looting. When sentences are read, get the valuables as far away as possible. There is already talk by the media that 2 of the 4 officers were only on the job for less than a week and did nothing because they were scared of being reprimanded by the senior officer. The sentences may not be the decades long/life imprisonment that people are hoping for unfortunately.

It was wonderful seeing people from all over the world marching in honor of George Floyd. Europe, Asia, Latin America, Australia, so on.

Floyd truly touched many people's lives and highlighted the brutality and racism of the American police force and society. And in turn his murder caused many around the world to reflect on the brutality they suffer under police states.

They sure do. I listened to a radio documentary today which described how police in New York are specifically ordered to issue arrest warrants with quotas targeting young black men. In white neighbourhoods--especially the rich ones--if someone is ticketed for some offense their lawyers see to it that the citations disappear. (I would provide a link if I could.) That does a great deal to elevate the "high crime" rates in certain sectors and erase them in others. The racial profiling and corruption are systemic and, very unfortunately, not likely to disappear.

Of those 1,000 or so armed and unarmed killed, 45% are white men; 23% black men; and 16% Hispanic men. Women are a mere 5% of those killed. Which of these statistics shows the most startling bias? How can it possibly be that 95% of those killed by the police are men? Does that bias bother you at all? Can there be any possible reason other than bias to account for such a huge level of gender bigotry?

What is really sad is the flurry of racialized government and business policies that have been generated as a result of this tragedy. The widespread use of racism in response to Floyd’s murder is nonsensical. We don’t even know if the policeman was motivated by race. The governor of Kentucky has announced that he will provide free health care to just the black residents of his state. How can that possibly be legal? If it stands it would codify yet another form of institutionalized race centric policy emanating from the Progressive Left.

There is a sickness sweeping America - preoccupied with dividing the people based on differences in identity. Unwilling to live up to the ideal of a color blind society that came out of the civil rights era, the nation is quickly moving to a level of fragmentation that all but guarantees continued and ever increasing future enmity.

Sadly though George Floyd's death will not do much in the long run to eradicate the police brutality and racism inherent in America.

The police will go right back to what they have been doing for decades, brutal choke holds, knees on neck, racial profiling, so on. In the city where I grew up in orange county we had a lot of prosperous blacks that did exceptionally well, all have nice homes, great jobs, now you go to liberal LA County, it’s night and day. So if republican policies are so toxic to black people, and all the blacks that I grew up with are loving the toxicity.

I would not call that kind of a person a good person. Pointing that out is not racist.

I don’t think any of it should come down, I think leaving the statues up is good, so we can teach our children about the past, the good and the bad the positives and the negatives of history and how not to make many of the mistakes from the past.

Coming from suburbia of a major U.S. city, all I can say is that I hope that there is a decrease in the black on white crime rate. In that area when police officers were shot and killed, especially the state troopers on the interstate high ways, it was almost always a white officer shot down and killed by a black individual. Hence, the really nervous feeling state troopers have when they pull over black drivers. I'm aware of this because my father was a friend to a lot of them in my area including the chief. Of course this high rate of murder of state troopers doesn't justify illegal and brutal assaults on black people by police officers, however, it's a tough job to be a police officer near and in any major U.S. city with a large black population. My friend's brother worked at a gas station outside of his town near a major interstate highway, and a black guy came in and pulled out a gun and robbed him. Did he stop there? With a gun pointed at the white guy's face and having the money he stole in his pockets, the black guy pointed the handgun directly at his face. The white guy pleaded with the black guy not to shoot him and told him that he'd just gotten married and his wife was expecting their first child (all true by the way). Well, he was shot anyway, but he survived. Unfortunately his entire bottom jaw was completely destroyed by the blast and had to be reconstructed with synthetic materials. These areas of American suburbia don't experience so much violent crime like this, but when they do it's usually black on white, not white on black. Needless to say, white people in these areas feel more comfortable if there's a bullet proof glass between themselves and blacks who are passing through their communities. Sad to say, but it's a fact and not one you usually read about due to political correctness.

It's a start. Not to glorify people like slavers or Stalinists or Middle Eastern dictators. Would you be happy if, for example, a statue of Bin Laden was erected on your doorstep? Of course not.
