Those people in the photo with a loaded handgun pointed at their faces are just trespassing.

Yes, has nothing to do with guns drawn on them. I swear, I’m starting to feel really bad for the left and for Garland, the man is under serious pressure from bloodthirsty Democrats to do more to hold these people accountable. In other words, whatever it takes even if it means to further violate their civil liberties and over charge them. The DOJ charged them with the most serious charge he could LEGALLY, the guy can’t charge them with something that doesn’t fit the definition legally, not if he doesn’t want to be sued later on false trumped up charges. He needs to follow the law as it’s constitutionally written and not according to Democrat mob justice. But I agree, the man is concerned about the rule of law.

I would like to report an obese old man who played a major part in the riots. He did not have the courage to March with the rioters as he promised instead he hid at home and watched the rioters try to overturn democracy!!!

He needs to follow the law as it’s constitutionally written and not according to Democrat mob justice. Bu

There was only one mob in January 6 - the one incited by Trump to overthrow a democratic election.

Those involved in the insurrection and treasonous attempt to seize power need to be investigated and punished.

4 ( +10 / -6 )

I'd agree with Garland that as a prosecutor, you often start with defendants at the lower end of the totem pole and begin to build a case from the ground up. The more evidence you can obtain to build your case, the better.

Democrat mob justice

Say what?

Today is January 6. Do you know what happened one year ago?

A bipartisan committee is investigating what led to that attack on democracy and who was responsible. Judges and juries are hearing cases involving various wrongdoings. Due process is being followed. This is not a mob.

I know it’s painful to see leaders and members of your own cult under investigation and prosecution, but hey, the law’s the law.

A serious attack against American democracy

And now many of the people that are held, their civil rights are being violated. So two wrongs don’t make a right, especially as American citizens. According to how these people are being held, they’re not even allowed their basic American judicial rights. Democracy?? Oxymoron….

Nobody is saying you shouldn’t post.

Well, of course not. Lol

We are saying you should stick with facts and logic

I always do.

Just curious how many of the arrested have actually been charged with insurrection, treason, sedition, etc? As compared to how many charged with criminal trespass/vandalism.

From what I have found, the longest prison sentence so far has been 5 years. Here is what the miscreant did...

Palmer broke into the Capitol building and, while inside, threw a wooden plank at police officers; then, they said, while he was on the front line of the riot, he sprayed police officers with a fire extinguisher and hurled the emptied extinguisher at the officers. No officers, prosecutors said, were injured.

A serious attack against American democracy

We heard you. I just wish the left wouldn’t Cherry pick what serious attack on democracy they feel is important to take on an aggressively pursue.

I requested several times you inform me what are the actual violations but you can provide non,

I have.

solitary confinement for 23 hours a day and has inadequate access to clean water and legal counsel.

https://www.judicialwatch.org/doj-jan-6-double-standards/

Many of those imprisoned are now expressing regret for their actions.

When you are held in appalling conditions, threatened and intimidated you will say anything. Do I think that some of the people that trespassed feel remorseful? I do, but I also believe a leopard doesn’t change his spots and for some to say things like, I shouldn’t have supported Trump or similar…just not buying it. You are not a huge supporter of someone, get arrested and then just like that, renounce the person because you deeply admire because you had a brief reflective moment. I have kids, if I’m in that situation, I’ll probably say whatever you want me to say as well. Come on now. No one is buying that.

-5 ( +6 / -11 )

Trump's the guy! Trump was the one who encouraged all of them to march to the U.S. Capitol. Trump's the guy who told them they had to fight! Trump's the guy who told them he'd march right along with them! Trump's the guy who implied VP Pence was a traitor. Trump's the guy who should be in an orange jumpsuit sitting in a prison cell. Yeah, Trump's the guy. You can't punish the flock of sheep without punishing their leader.

4 ( +9 / -5 )

Psmith, I agree, you shouldn't assault police. But 5 years for a crime that resulted in no injuries seems a bit steep, especially for a first time offender. But you are right, nobody should attack police who are just trying to do their jobs. They deserve punishment, as do the other trespassers and vandals. Still waiting on who was charged with sedition or insurrection.

I am kinda curious how this has played out in 'other' encounters between police and rioters in the States in recent memory. Are there other civil disturbances which have received as much attention from federal law enforcement?

"The Epoch Times is a far-right international multi-language newspaper

So in other words, using a far-left site is better? Why?

Anything that doesn’t follow the lefts lemming code of so-called political ethics is seen as far-right? Give me a break… lol

What a bunch of faux, made-up "But What About" garbage.....

I don't see the Q Shaman complaining about his incarceration - they even gave him his requested vegan diet. More wild, out-of-this-world conspiracy theories to try to explain-away the obvious....

These pro-Trump domestic terrorists were caught in real-time on video rioting and destroying the Capitol - and in the process put 130 police officers in the hospital with their violence. They were all carrying Trump banners, wearing MAGA hats, and most with the Confederate flag. And several groups had a noose to hang the Vice President....

Now we're learning that they were in contact with and being aided by Repub Congressmen, White House officials (who are now all taking the 5th), and Fox News talking heads....

And the Coup Leader sat in his dining room watching all the violence on television, smiling, while his family members, lackeys in Congress, and these Fox News kooks all tried to get him to denounce it.

And this fairy tale that the terrorists weren't armed - tell that to the Pro-Trump guy that pleaded guilty to bringing five firearms and 11 Molotov cocktails to the Capitol.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/crime/capitol-riot-molotov-cocktail-trump-b1957164.html

These violent terrorists and their Repub pol cronies hate democracy as much as Putin, Xi, and The Mullahs...and deserve every sentence they get....

A serious attack against American democracy

No rights are being violated.

According to how these people are being held, they’re not even allowed their basic American judicial rights.

If that's true, they can sue.

4 ( +10 / -6 )

for anyone?

including people who were in charge of security and didnt even plan it?

-7 ( +6 / -13 )

No rights are being violated.

Not according to the facilities that were observed and funny, they didn’t want cameras allowed, why? I thought we were in the US and not Cuba. Hmmmm…

If that's true, they can sue.

When this is over with, a lot will, there’s already word about it. Let’s see after November.

-6 ( +6 / -12 )

Excellent. Deliberate and airtight is better than hurried.

Urging them to seize the Capitol by force in order to stop a critical step in our electoral process, however, arguably is a crime.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

Lincolnman: ONE senior citizen was caught, not entering the Capitol building, carrying 2 handguns and had a couple more in his truck. THIS is your 'insurrection'? Pretty weak beer. Don't you think that the FBI would be trumpeting to the high heavens if they had more people to charge with the same thing? Your exception does nothing to disprove the truth that the rioters did not carry firearms. The only shots fired on January 6 were by the police.

As for people who are making so much hay of Trump saying "We have to fight", these are common words used by politicians, and have been for decades. Taking them seriously is the same as charging Joe Biden with threatening to assault a sitting President when he said, "I'd take him (Trump) behind the gym and beat the hell out of him".

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

The pro-Trump crowd just can't seem to get their stories straight....

Here they play the victim card and say these insurrectionists being held in confinement are being treated poorly and "denied their rights".....

Yet polls consistently show more than half of Repubs say that the people rioting at the Capitol on Jan 6th were 'Leftists", "Antifa", and "BLM"....

https://news.yahoo.com/poll-73-percent-of-republicans-blame-left-wing-protesters-for-jan-6-attack-just-23-percent-blame-trump-191520343.html

So they are complaining that the Biden administration arrested and threw in jail it's own supporters, and is now denying these leftists their Constitutional rights... "Free The Libs!".....

Welcome to MAGA-world....

https://www.judicialwatch.org/doj-jan-6-double-standards/

Judicial Watch has a long history of spreading disinformation, including their claim that the Clintons were behind the murders of Vince Foster and (later) Seth Rich, that ISIS had set up camp in Mexico, and that a migrant caravan headed for the US was funded by a “Soros-occupied State Department”.

You need to do better to substantiate your claims of these insurrectionists’ rights being violated.

4 ( +9 / -5 )

9/11 was worse than 1/6. Sorry, that is my opinion and I am sticking with it.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

Remember when right after Jan 6th you had these Repubs saying this;

Mitch McConnell: The President is responsible for provoking the event...

Kevin McCarthy: The President bears responsibility for Wednesday's attack...

Ted Cruz: The President's rhetoric crossed the line and was reckless....

Lindsey Graham: The President needs to understand his actions were the problem not the solution...

https://www.yahoo.com/news/gop-group-calls-trump-enablers-073133042.html

I guess that was before they were all neutered....

The usual "deer-in-the-headlights" performance of MG said nothing to reassure me that "nobody is above the law", or to convince me that he was serious about investigating and prosecuting the "covert" perpetrators of the conspiracy to prevent the inauguration of 46. He waxed indignant over "threats" of violence made to government officials, yet left unsaid what he planned to do about the long overdue reform of law enforcement in order to protect the lives of ordinary citizens put at risk by the deadly force routinely employed by US police with guns. Establishment politician Biden's "safe" choice of MG as AG is producing exactly what we could have predicted, but for the sake of America's future as a democracy, I pray I'm wrong.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

I am surprised you used a Chinese site

Here we go that debunked crap again lol

Judicial Watch is all you have you have nothing.

Well, I do, that’s why it’s in the name….but yeah, as usual the left never gets it until it’s too late. November approaching

Your journalistic standards are slipping.

Not in the slightest

-8 ( +5 / -13 )

God, if I hear the cheap catchphrase "assault on our democracy" one more time, I think I'll throw up. It is so tired and meaningless, virtue signalling at its worst. I am assigning it the same credibility as similar phrases that have lately infested the media: "the walls are closing in", "bombshell report", and the like.

There was a riot, there was trespassing, there was vandalism, there were idiots who deserve to be punished. There was no threat to democracy, whatever that means.

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

It’s shocking that anyone who claims to be patriotic is trying to minimize this Trump-led assault on our democracy.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

I am surprised you used a Chinese site

That’s like saying Apple is American, but I get your tried and attempting point. Lol

How so. Epoch Times is an extreme right-wing site

What is CNN and the NYT? Calm and center rational news outlets? Give me a break

Judicial Watch is all you have you have nothing.

I do and that is why they are there. To hold oversight over the system and the left is racking up future lawsuits like crazy.

But you didn't,

I do all the time, you just don’t read it!

Your journalistic standards are slipping.

Not in the slightest.

only 55% of Americans think Biden won legitimately.

This Jan 6th thing isnt going to get the result you think it is.

-7 ( +6 / -13 )

did anyone mention this committee is planning to create a TV show in prime time television (after 8pm) to show people testifying?

will be the least watched show ever, for sure.

-5 ( +6 / -11 )

Used to visit the Capital during college spring break back in the '80s. Found I could take the elevator from the Senate office building to the underground passage connecting it to the Capitol building via a funky subway-type thing. I'd wander around underground, admiring the unfinished limestone and behind-the-scenes activities like congressional laundry until someone would kindly "guide" me to an elevator up to the "public" areas. It was all so open and friendly - all were pleased that I was so curious.

Too bad America can't have nice things anymore.

4 ( +9 / -5 )

Garland said prosecutors remained “committed to holding all January 6th perpetrators, at any level, accountable under law.”

I wish I could believe Garland etal would go after the leaders of the insurrection, but because some of the leaders might be among the countries wealthy ,established caste, I doubt he will, Trump once again won't be touched. It could be Garland etal fear Trump will call his Proud Boys and the other thug groups loyal to him to be even more violent this time in their attempts to have him and his family return to the White House. Many Trump followers have claimed they will use their weapons to fight against the state they despise and want destroy. While claiming to be patriots, which their cult leader has somehow convinced them they are. But Trump has been the biggest manipulator of the poorly educated , he's used marketing background to attack the country that he and his fellow caste members have exploited without giving much of anything in return for the privileges they've taken.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

Watching Trump and all his cohorts try to hide behind the law, plead the 5th, and stall the committee....

It reminds me that they all support gun control - hide the "smoking gun"....

2 ( +7 / -5 )

It’s shocking that anyone who claims to be patriotic is trying to minimize this Trump-led assault on our democracy.

Welp, you minimize May 26, 2020 – June 25, 2021 and call it all justified because businesses have insurance. I am not sure the 25 dead can be brought back by insurance but you do you.
