Being a handgun...probability of it coming illegally from south of the border is very high.

We should build a wall.

No doubt non-Caucasian gang-related.

Sorry, lots of doubt for you and your biases. Witness described the suspect as a white male, in his late to early 30s, who was dressed in all black. Police have yet to provide a suspect description. Best wait until all the facts are in

This is in Greektown, by Christina's and Demetres, for those who know the area

Where do these crazy people come from?

Getting a legal gun in Canada takes time and education.

Toronto police have been addressing an illegal gun smuggling situation.

I wonder if this was one of those.

No doubt non-Caucasian gang-related.

I think you meant to say RIP to the victim.

Is it really that important to be first with the inflammatory bias?

“Extremely rare in Canada, and no doubt the nutter got the gun illegally through the US.”

Let’s burst some bubbles, shall we?

Did you forget you were on JT? Casual bigotry is this site's raison d'être.

The mods have left kawabegawa198's racist comment up for hours. That means they support it.

Moderation: Yup! But don't you dare point out when another poster has lied, or we'll drop the hammer on you!

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Such a statement on the race of the perp is deliberate. It generates more comments ... and so it goes.

A poster (now banned) once claimed that my father had sexually abused me. This nonsense was simply down to the fact that my beliefs and opinions did not sit at all well with the aforementioned poster. It was an opportunistic, hateful non-sequitur by a desperate person.

That particular post remained for not just hours, but days. Oh well.

Again, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt - an oversight. Moderating is a tough gig, it's more than just tidying up posts. Lot of multi-tasking going on, updates, news feeds, breaking news etc etc.

It's been a long, hot day and I won't begrudge a bit of time out. Ok, so the responses calling out the prejudiced comment on this thread have been deleted. I'm sure there's a simple reason for that.

I don't believe, for one moment, that JT employs bigots.

Anyway. On topic. It doesn't matter who was responsible for the murders. It's why. What causes someone to go on a killing spree and how can such horrors be prevented from happening again?

@smith - yes, you are right extremely rare in Canada. We shall see where the gun came from. Who knows?

4 ( +7 / -3 )

there was a shooting just the morning before south of there so it might be connected. Been a rough summer

26 so far this year is 1 a wekk.  Is that "extremely rare?".......

Also is it that hard to get a gun in Canada?

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Is it really important to tell people how they should think?

I didn't tell him how to think. I suggested that because of his wee bias, he forgot to think about the victim of this heinous crime.

It's an easy slip to make. Someone is murdered and clearly, the most important thing of all is to determine what skin color/religion/political grouping does the perp belong to.

So there is “no doubt” the gun came from the USA huh?

I'm curious to find out myself.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

@Kaerimashita Like Japan, owning firearms is greatly restricted. Handguns by far and large are incredibly rare and and handguns that are owned legally are strictly monitored.

Canada's firearms are pretty much for hunting purposes only so you'll see rifles and shotguns. Handguns hardly ever.

Extremely rare in Canada, and no doubt the nutter got the gun illegally through the US.

Unreal you connected that to the USA! WOW!

I think the person was Japanese. Let's make up more fake news and go with it....

Extremely rare in Canada, and no doubt the nutter got the gun illegally through the US.

Yeah, any gun use anywhere in the world is the fault of the USA, Trump and the NRA. It is a proven fact.

Getting a legal gun in Canada takes time and education.

That's true, but cops throughout Canada have been seizing illegal caches containing automatic, military-grade rifles and submachine guns in recent years. The culprits are the very rich and powerful organized drug gangs.

Canada used to be very safe. But its violent crime wave has coincided precisely with its liberalization regarding narcotics sales and use. The Globe and Mail reported that BC police don't even arrest drug dealers anymore, including the powerful, murderous ones.

including a wall

Is Canada going to pay?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

There are lots of guns in canada.

-1 ( +7 / -8 )

Little reason to own one unless you to hunting. You require a license and background legally. You can look it up. We have freely available government websites on the topic. Everything USA doesn't have we have

I can thus speculate that this was a black market gun and a grievance. Note this area is the centre of the Taste of the Danforth in August, 1.5 million people jam packed on the streets for a mega street food festival. Largest Greek food fete in the world? Must be close. They'd be deep in the planning stages with it 3 weeks away

Downvotes for stating facts. well, thats JT.

No. Kawabegawa198 meant to say “No doubt non-Caucasian gang-related”.

Is it really important to tell people how they should think?

That said, I agree with your RIP. A life gone and so many threads broken in the process is tragic.

Yes I do. That’s why we need border security including a wall to prevent illegals, guns and drugs from entering our country. Didn’t Canada just lose track of like 50,000 immigrants they invited in as part of the latest we love illegals virtue signaling? Maybe one of those people brought the gun. It’s worthwhile to check this angle.

As a Trump supporter, you must sympathize with the idea of looking to your southern border for negative influences.

Mental health. Is this an acceptable reason for Canada? I know it’s not to the anti-gun liberals in the USA. So there is “no doubt” the gun came from the USA huh?

"It's not gang related. It looks like someone who is very disturbed," Fletcher said. Councillor Mary Fragedakis also said she heard the gunman was disturbed.

No doubt non-Caucasian gang-related.
