The Beijing boot has already started to stamp on the faces of the HK Chinese, but it will not be forever. The natural human desire for freedom from oppression will eventually prevail just as a seed can grow into a tree of liberty that will crack and split open the granite rock of the CCP's corrupt tyranny for all things must pass, a truism that most government people are blind to. Meanwhile the world must heed the cries of the brave people of Hong Kong.

Hong Kong people if I could help you somehow ..... You are fighting also for us. Dictator Xi and his criminal CCP tyranny will be finally defeated. But it must come from mainland Chinese people... I urge you pls stand up and defend your human rights. You deserve a better live. Sent this communist bustard's to hell

The world looked the other way when Jews and countless others were slaughtered 90 years ago, it's happening again are we going to look the other way again?

I will never spend a nickel to visit mainland china, however, if I could still take a ferry over to Taiwan from Okinawa, I would be on the first boat.

13 ( +13 / -0 )

That didn't take long but again the world can't say it wasn't coming so no surprise there.

12 ( +12 / -0 )

LMAO...never been to china, have ya’?

Nice try, but I'm afraid I have, old bean: mainland Chinah 3 times(traveled extensively all over) and studied the language at a major university there, Taiwan 3 times, HK over 20 times. I can speak and read Chinese, too, and have enough experience and knowledge of the country to expatiate a little on the Chinese "writing on the wall": i.e., the days of the CCP are numbered because the pen and tongue are mightier than the sword.

Power to the freedom fighters of Hong Kong! Stick it to those commie thug "Police", as they are so named in the pictures above.

Sadly, without foreign military assistance very soon, the resistance will sadly fail. A smart, well organized guerilla offensive against the HK gov't and police may slow them down a little and drum up foreign support.

Long term, the best, richest and brightest Hong Kongers had best make their way to Taiwan and Japan as fast as they can to apply for asylum and PR.

Britain offering passports to all those born before the date of the handover.

Good on the UK and the Johnson Cabinet for agreeing to take probably 3 Million Hong Kongers. It is to be hoped jobs can be found for them all once they settle in, and they can maintain their high living/health standards in the UK.

Perhaps those born after the handover will be granted safe asylum in Taiwan and Japan. Japan especially could really use these well-educated youth, trained to become Doctors, Nurses, Teachers, Scientists and Engineers.

HK will become a dreadful, poverty riddled Communist slum in 5-10 years.

Hong Kongers ... Please empty your Bank accounts before the mainland freezes it

@coskuri

Excellent post. Compounding the tragedy of this is what you posted - it isn’t a simple question of upping sticks and leaving for many, even if countries like the UK make good on their promises.

This is bloody awful.

the days of the CCP are numbered because the pen and tongue are mightier than the sword.

I don't share your optimism. I don't see things getting better before years.

The CCP already died several times... and rebirthed in a new version. It's like when they changed of Emperors, as there was always a new stronger -never softer-despote replacing the previous one. After the big/giga/fail of Mao with the Cultural Revolution and other utopic projects, the CCP of then was beheaded, totally renewed as the new version promised a project of "opening up again", so people got quiet because they did open up. But CCP 2.0 was not less powerful. Then after the years of slow economy, the Tibet scandal, what never happened on Tiananmen square, they renewed again with a project of first world economy and getting back wealthy glamour Hong-Kong and Macao, and people got quiet because they all their material comfort progress of 200 years within a few decades. And CCP 3.0 was not less powerful as they controlled people using retribution in wealth, and people became dependant on materialism. Now, that's what is failing, money gets short, to deter attention from economic crisis, they hit on the Uighurs and Hong-Kong over secession threats, it's fearmonging as even if the Uighurs had left the Chinese empire with a few yards of lands and if Hong-Kong had got its autonomy in the way Singapore did, big China would still be 99, 99% as big and they'd influence them the way they do with External Manchuria.

It's a pretext to convince people a stronger and more military control is unvoidable. CCP 4.0. will be wartime China united against external ennemies. That can work ? Well, listen to international reaction : ...zzzzz ... silence, zero real support to HK.... bip, bip... tons of commercial offers to buy more weapons please call us back in Washington/London (the idiots from Tokyo are already there in Beijing with a truckload of samples).... As you are fluent in Chinese, you've not missed that the most admired foreign leader for Chinese people of all kinds, it's Putin.

if I could still take a ferry over to Taiwan from Okinawa, I would be on the first boat.

Surely a ferry called Lusitania, and you could be one of the first casualties of WW3. It's scary, but the odds that Beijing attacks Taiwanese and/or Japanese targets has never been greater.

HK freedom fighters are already engaging 4th Generation Warfare against the despotic CCP state. We, the free peoples of the world, must do all we can to aid this campaign. Make Beijing feel real pain!

Get out of HK!

Long term, the best, richest and brightest Hong Kongers had best make their way to Taiwan and Japan as fast as they can to apply for asylum and PR.

Best give Japan a miss, sport. They aren’t exactly exemplary in this area.

Good on the UK for the action they’ve taken. Then again, I wouldn’t put too much stock in what the Johnson cabinet says, particularly if the numbers turn out much higher than what they are estimating which will be nowhere near the number they say they are offering.

Tragic to see a great place like HK being mutilated by the CCP. Inevitable, but still tragic.

It is to be hoped jobs can be found for them all once they settle in, and they can maintain their high living/health standards in the UK.

Whether they go to the UK or another country, it's likely that from now, those that leave will do it empty hands. Already in peaceful circumstances and with time to plan, depending on family situation, age, activity, it can be too complicated to leave. It's worse no. There are not even ways to book flights taking you out due to Covid. Unless there is an important international pressure (we are not seeing anything do we ?), all their wealth will be confiscated by Beijing. They won't be allowed to take their life savings nor whatever property (house, business) they owned in HK. For the retired people, they will never see their pensions, like those that left East Germany except that then West Germany would pay them equivalent pensions, but I don't think UK intends to do the same. It's really a complicated situation. In the past, my family was in the situation twice. Once, they stayed. Once they left. Wrong choice both times. It's a lose lose situation.

Get up, stand up: stand up for your rights!

The last time there was a mass exodus, a lot of Hong Kongers went to Vancouver and the city got incredibly rich. A lot will go again. Not so many will come to Britain. Britain owes it to Hong Kong so I fully support it. I don't support Johnson politically but good on him for offering citizenship. At the same time, it has to be noted that Britain still wants to trade with China, so until all countries pull their businesses from China, nothing will happen. India on the other hand: 'India, traditionally a non-aligned country but already at odds with China over deadly clashes on the eastern Ladakh border, on Monday announced it was banning more than 50 Chinese apps, including Bytedance’s TikTok and Tencent’s WeChat. China says it was concerned by the move and seeking details'. (Source: Guardian) Sadly, the only way to beat Beijing is to bankrupt Beijing and most companies are addicted to their profits. Until companies move to a new base, nothing will change.

Article 38 is troubling.

Source: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/30/world/asia/hong-kong-security-law-explain.html

The new rules apply even to those who are not residents of Hong Kong, with Article 38 suggesting that foreigners who support independence for Hong Kong or call for imposing sanctions on the Chinese government could be prosecuted upon entering Hong Kong or mainland China.

China has extradition treaties with 59 Countries:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extradition_law_in_China#Countries_with_which_China_maintains_extradition_treaties

So, if China deems that you, regardless where you are in the World, have broken Article 38 of their new Security Law, they can start extradition proceedings against you, should you step foot in one of those listed Countries.

Worrying.

Vancouver doesn't have the vacancy rate so people will have to find other cities. Any and every country in the world would benefit for highly skilled hard working immigrants and we should all be trying to help

Canada and the USA has a large Chinese diaspora so that makes sense. UK might also be a good idea as Johnson has indicated a responsibility in the face of Chinese crackdown. There are lots of places.

HK had hoped, as the rest of the world had, that China would dial down it's dystopian nightmare over time but that hasn't happened. Its only emboldened their dictatorship.

Time to leave

Chinese goods need higher tariffs as the crap that is being sold is far too cheap!

Seems like the world's borders are closing (even if in cases they are not) ...or a good natural flow of universalism within humanity is retracting. Japan prefers it that way anyway. Especially when it benefits japan.

JCosPlay...quite a few people believe so...nothing is beyond them.

Oh, keep dreaming Reamer. The AK-47 is mightier than your pen..at least for another century of china.

The only surprise here is that China waited this long to implement the inevitable.

Boycott Chinese goods!

Taiwan must be worried and troubled by what is happening in Hong Kong. Trump is being too quiet on Hong Kong.

He's complacent and he doesn't care about human rights - in HK, Taiwan, or the US.

The world looked the other way when Jews and countless others were slaughtered 90 years ago, it's happening again are we going to look the other way again?

And it happened again in Yugoslavia during the 90s - 00s. And in Rwanda in 1994, which led to a domino effect of engulfing much of Africa into ethnic wars. And the world is looking away while Myanmar is committing a genocide. And the Trump administration's ethnic cleansing ('zero tolerance') policies towards Hispanics is the same actions with the same Hitleresque language.

Will we ever learn?

Just imagine the middle class who can hardly hide their disdain of the working class coming out with: "Haha. Just wait until the Brexiteers find out that 3 million Hong Kongers will soon be in Britain!".

Little do they realise that the middle class is going to replaced by a harder working, more intelligent and productive workforce.

Whatever wars China brews, hopefully they will remain civil wars.

“Desire to be free from Opression”...so THAT’s going to make the commies go home and not arrest anyone? ...and they’ll live Happily Ever After? LMAO...never been to china, have ya’?

-2 ( +8 / -10 )

Well, that did not take them long, did it. Soon, HK will be a very quiet place. Big Brother is watching you...

Chinese goods need higher tariffs as the crap that is being sold is far too cheap!

Well, we'd better make sure Biden's not elected then.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Just ask yourself the question...

Would the Chinese be doing this if there wasn't a weak, dictator wannabe, orange freak in the whitehouse?

Trump weak on China? Bwahahahahaha!

Wait til Biden gets in and removes all the tariffs. We'll see who's weak on China.
