Evidence of behaviour - witness, texts, financial records, his own words, laptop photos - was overwhelming and it was abundantly obvious to the jury he has a nose like a vacuum cleaner.
DaDude
People will come in here saying that this was “equal justice“ or this is just one big nothing burger. They will also rant about a guy that has nothing to do with this trial. I got the popcorn ready!
Strangerland
The whole Hunter Biden thing turned into a debacle for the right in that it proved Biden a man of law and order, as a direct contrast to trump, the convicted felon.
Then Biden used this to launch a fiery speech about gun control and hope for America. Which again is contrasted to trump - who fell further into dementia this weekend talking about how he knows more about sharks and boat batteries than anyone…

“Joe Biden has said he would accept the verdict involving his son and would not seek to pardon him”
Doesn’t sound like someone weaponizing the department of justice. No howls of revenge, appeals or rigging either.
He’s guilty, take the punishment.
bass4funk
For now
Not with HIS son, of course not.
For now
Ah_so
Witch-hunt!!
Rigged!!!!
Corrupt judge!!!!!!
...Or just someone who was found guilty by a jury of his peers based on the evidence put before it, and who will accept his punishment with dignity.
wallace
The verdict is not a surprise but what will the sentence be? Second Amendment in the appeals court.

If Trump were president and one of his sons were convicted, would he pardon him?
You bet he would!
stormcrow
Talk about a cruel and nasty display of overreaching.
This man is obviously on the mend and needs help more than punishment.
Bob Fosse
And when he doesn’t what will you say? They put a body double in prison? Hunter is secretly living on a remote island?
Not questioning the juries motives and verdict this time? How odd.
dagon
Prosecuted for exercising his Second Amendment rights. And for 'tax evasion', which should just make him 'smart', or so I have heard from a stable genius former President.
I sense a two-tier injustice system influenced by fundamentalist mega-capital , like Harlan Crow for instance.

That won’t happen, so no need to play hypotheticals.
Not sure what you’re talking about.
He lied on a gun application, the actual document is online; what needs to be questioned?
wallace
Republicans support gun ownership, except when it applies to the son of a sitting Democratic president.
bass4funk
He created a business, he’s a business owner?
Yes
No; even with the family being present in the court, it didn’t sway the jurors.
If you lie on a gun application, you should be barred from owning a gun.
Bob Fosse
So you believe Biden will pardon him then? Ok. Let’s wait and see.
I’m saying that you frequently turn to conspiracy theories to cope with realities you don’t like.
Good, you’re getting it. Juries look at evidence presented and reach a verdict.
No ‘thank god for appeals’ this time? How odd.
bass4funk
Yes, he will.
I always deal with reality and never follow or believe in any conspiracies for the record.
Getting what?
This is a Federal case, no choice, no other avenue, different from a state case and one that is heavily biased towards the former President.
When you lie on a gun application? Good luck in the appeals process.
John
I feel for Hunter, and I don’t think he should do any (or not much) time.
But he should have taken a deal. The evidence of his guilt was overwhelming and actions have consequences, even for those suffering from drug addiction.
But the President let his only surviving son face justice without interference.
So much for the 2-tier justice system troupe.
Seth Majer
So you know this from that guy you work with in Japan and the Internet?
John
And no, there aren’t bigger fish to fry.
The GQP has nothing on Joe. Comer took his best shot and came up with zip, zilch, zero, nada, nil, nothing.
He was triple-dog dared to open the committee to a vote on impeachment and he blinked because he’s got bunk. Just like Trump’s cult.
bass4funk
Yes
For now.
Still didn’t change the 2-tier system, won’t change until this administration changes.
Yes, there are a lot bigger fish to fry, the left won’t stop it.
Well, once the AG changes, everything changes, regardless of what the Left thinks or wants or hopes
I think once the Republicans take over a lot of Dems currently will be leaving politics
Bob Fosse
“no need to play hypotheticals.”

Readers, please don't get fixated on this topic and spend all morning on it. Once you have made your point, please move on to other stories.

What’s this income that he owes more than a million dollars in taxes on?
GuruMick
The real story, ignored by everyone here, is about ADDICTION !!!!!!!!!!!!
It affects the high and mighty and the low and powerless.
The sentence in a normal country with a normal judicial system, would be a long stint in rehabilitation, with monitoring for drug use afterwards.
But this is America, the land of the hypocrite , so I guess some jail time is coming.
Express sister
I’m glad you finally see that the Second Amendment can have limits imposed on it.
Express sister
You need evidence and cause. I know that the right love to fantasize about arresting and executing their political foes without due process (see Qanon, the folks you described as “very sensible people”), but that’s not how civilized nations work.

"First of all, my son's done nothing wrong," Biden answered. "I trust him. I have faith in him and it impacts my presidency by making me feel proud of him."
well darn. Wrong again, Joe.
Is he still the smartest man you know?
proxy
A great opportunity for Trump to promise to pardon Hunter after the election, if he wins.
Strangerland
And Biden is using that to come for their automatic rifles. He announced it right after the conviction this morning.
Strangerland
How would that fit into Trump's plans for Retribution 2025?
u_s__reamer
“No one in this country is above the law,” said Weiss, the Trump-nominated U.S. attorney for Delaware, who was named special counsel by Attorney General Merrick Garland in August. “Everyone must be accountable for their actions.”
Who among the public can still believe this stuff? Just guff to anyone alive today who has lived compos mentis through the years of America's orange revolt and seen how so many of the prominent players in politics and in the justice system have been guilty of making an ass out of the law: not "equal justice under law", but "some more equal than others", a travesty of justice that a president's son can also look forward to.
ClippetyClop
How does the MAGAverse square Biden's weaponization of the DoJ with the same people convicting his very own son?
I'm guessing they will find a way for it to be both weaponized for Trump but not for Hunter.
Or is there an even funkier conspiracy out there?
Strangerland
According to MTG, the DOJ did it at Biden's request, to garner sympathy for Biden.

That MIT professorship-in-law is what lets him know more about sinking boat motors and sharks than anyone.

That’s roughly what I tried to say, but it was moderated. (And I do appreciate their diligence in their presumably frustrating work.)
Anyway, the new talking point I’m finding on right-leaning news sites regarding the reason for the conviction is that it helps cover up more serious crimes. (Those mentioned in still-existing posts above.)
bass4funk
Easy, get a conviction, maybe spend a little time in a cushy Federal prison and then pardon him, that’s how it should play out
Kaowaiinekochanknaw
You would think as Democrats, they would abhor guns or even having one in possession - ever.
Shameful
wallace
Hunter Biden will still be dealing with his appeal process even after his father finishes his second term in office.
GuruMick
Gotta go for Federal.....better class of crim.
