Well, all road blocks to prevent Iran from nuclearizing are clear and there's no way to undo this historical f&%up.
Iran will have nukes, and they already have long rang missiles to deliver them.
Have fun while you still can
ulysses
If you were Trump, you'd be incompetent !!!
Blacklabel
Taken in context, all IS well.
Toasted Heretic
Actually, it's spelled USA, or as some like to say in these troubled times, AmeriKKKa.
Toasted Heretic
Wouldn't have happened if the Trump administration wasn't hell bent on creating this situation.
They own this. You own this.
Anyway, don't worry. Your PotUS has tweeted that "all is well". Don't be contradicting the great leader...
Jimizo
These demented clowns are not reasonable. Leave them to their korans. Get out of this area.
Blacklabel
Even the ones from Iranian missiles fired into Iraq? thats quite a stretch. Even the American civilian worker Iran murdered with the last attack? Even all the people crushed at the funeral?
Toasted Heretic
I've stated repeatedly that I care for the millions at risk. Any and all deaths now, are down to US imperialism.
I have little sympathy for the US warmongers, mind. The American people? That's a different matter. I hope they will rise up and overthrow their corrupt and evil government by peaceful means.
Toasted Heretic
Meanwhile, as journalist Garrett M Graff has pointed out:
Reminder that as this crisis escalates, we have no Director of National Intelligence, no Dep Dir, no Homeland Security Secretary, no Dep Sec, no head of CBP or ICE, no State Dept Under Sec of Arms Control, no Asst Sec for Europe, and no Navy Sec.
Wolfpack
The Mullahs cry out for revenge against the Great Satan then go out and blow up some Iraqi’s. I don’t get it.
Blacklabel
So do any of you care where the 4 missiles that completely missed the target went and if they killed any innocent Iraqis? Doubtful.
Blacklabel
Love how this is always presented as undisputed truth. One, we don’t know because we never got to inspect the likely sites and two, the deal was insufficient to keep Iran from developing nukes.
Which was the supposed purpose of the deal they supposedly were abiding by only because they were paid pallets of cash to do so.
ulysses
Well he is going to lose in a few months, then who knows where he'll go.
Prison or Siberia!!!!
Toasted Heretic
I can assure you, I'm not on the side of the terrorist in the White House. I'm on the side of those who will be killed because of your government.
The Iranians were sticking to the deal until your leader decided to stir it up by breaking away from the deal and threatening and attacking Iran.
Ah_so
Looks like both sides are claiming victory, and Iran thinks the matter is closed. Hopefully Trump agrees.
Kaerimashita
How unusual is all of this actually?

I’ve been very consistent on the west getting out of the Middle East no matter who is in power. I refused to vote Labour in 2005 because of Iraq despite my lifelong support of that movement. I have no time for cultism.
It is Trump supporters being forced into screaming 180s whenever he blows gas out of the wrong orifice or sends a 3am trash tweet from his potty. His trash about hitting sites of cultural importance ( a war crime ) had his followers running around like headless chickens clucking about PC culture. Pathetic.
PTownsend
Which Trump is. He's continuing the Bush-Obama wars for oil for the benefit of his biggest boosters - Wall Street, big oil, and big defense, i.e. the establishment, the so-called elite..
PTownsend
He did? Did you mean 'pulled some troops out of Syria'? I hope so, because if not then another Trump lie is being repeated by one of his supporters. Typical of those who just swallow what RT/Breitbart say.
Yrral
A plane was destroyed in the attack and the US shot down two missile
Blacklabel
Yeah we are back to the "he said he was gonna do something and he didnt!" line of attack.
Do you want him to do something? If so then (a) you are also a warmonger and (b) you cant complain when he does it.
Jimizo
Oh, be straight for once. Just say he’s failed to live up to his pledges on this score. These Trump supporters get all delicate when making excuses for him.
*This post has nothing to do with CNN or globalists.
Blacklabel
So from liberal land perspective, are we allowed to retaliate? or is now a good time to stop?
Blacklabel
Im not reading all this, but the general impression I get is that liberals are overjoyed so that the can say "told you so" and blame/criticize Trump. Guess this is the next thing, "muh Iran".
WilliB
lincolnman:
So what do you want him to do? Declare military war on Iran? In that case, congratulations, you are completely in line with John Bolton, McCain, Hillary Clinton, and in fact the whole chorus of warmongers in the swamp.
In the event, the "all is well" referred to the fact that there were no casualties, and I thank god you have Trump in office and not a warmonger like Clinton.

Do we all need anymore evidence that this guy is in the latter stages of Alzheimer's?
Yesterday he was laying down a Red Line by saying that any attack against US citizens or locations will result in Iran being "hit very hard and very fast"...
Well, so much for that Red Line...all is well....

Riiiiight so Iran had a deal that was signed by the US, the EU, plus Russia and China
That was when we had the easily deluded Obama as president who gave the Iranians $1.7 billion in unmarked bills on pallets as part of the 2015 Iran deal debacle.
I can't honestly see much difference between the US and Iran*I honestly can't help you then.

Linconlman:
They are called NEOLIBS and there is no difference between the warmongers of both factions. I notice the destruction of Libya, the betrayal of Mubarak, and the efforts to destroy Syria are missing in your list?
PTownsend:
I wish he was more aggressive in stopping these, however notice he did pull out of Syria and stop the neocon/neolib support for the Syrian terrorists, for which he was massively critizised by the our corporate fake media. Maybe you might want to peek outside your bubble for once?

Yes, he is. He's NOT stopping US military involvements anywhere; he's carrying on the Bush-Obama-TRUMP wars (ala Tulsi Gabbard) for oil.
The swamp Trump's enlarging? GoTrumpers (US and 'foreign') claimed Trump was his own man, beholden to no one. They were wrong. Trump is part of the swamp, in fact he's the leading swampman.
lincolnman
Maybe you should look at some facts;
The 1991 Gulf War was started by Repub President George H.W. Bush, along with NEOCONs like Dick Cheney and Don Rumsfeld...
The 2004 Iraq War was started by Repub President George W. Bush along with these same NEOCONs...
The 2020 Iran War is being started by Repub President Donald Trump along with NEOCONs Pompeo and Graham...
There are no Democrat NEOCONs - they're all Repub...
And Trump, who insulted NEOCONs, said he would stop endless wars, and bring the troops home has shown he's nothing but a war-loving NEOCON...
And all the Trumpers who voted for him were scammed and conned...
wierdworld
Tehran state news is reporting 'over 80 american terrorists have been killed'. I think you guys may possibly be jumping the gun on the no casualties idea. America has yet to confirm their casualties.
bass4funk
Yeah, for one thing the US has always had counter weapons that function compared to a lot of the faulty weaponry from the Russians and cheaper copy Chinese versions that they’ve never used in battle. When was the last time they were at war? Also you have to understand China and even Russia are not going to stick and put their butts on the line especially knowing what Soleimani did to use. Now if we had just blindly gone after them for no reason or justification, then I do believe things would look different.
They backed down, once you do that it’s over, pushovers neeeever give in, never.
Kniknaknokkaer
Riiiiight so Iran had a deal that was signed by the US, the EU, plus Russia and China and those signatories other than the US were sure Iran was adhering to it. If they were found to be in breach they would've had everyone on them. The US has not shown any evidence Iran was in breach of the deal and now there is no deal is that better??? How's Trumps great deal with NK going? You know, the one that has made the world a safer place?
I can't honestly see much difference between the US and Iran. Both countries have religious nut jobs in their governments and both countries fund and equip terrorist groups. The main difference I do see is that The US has thousands of nukes and has caused more mayhem, death and destruction in foreign countries to feed it's insatiable appetite for resources and greed.

Klausdorth:
Donnie is not a war president. However, yes, the Washington swamp (plus Saudi Arabia plus Israel) are trying to drag him into a military Iran war. (The ideological/economic war has been on for quite some time.)
I hope they are not successful. And rather than ranting about orange man bad, you might want to count your blessings that you have him in the White house and the "we came, we saw, he died, hahahahaha, so funny" warmonger Hillary Clinton. All of her war crimes and warmongering are blanked out in your world?

Hung Nguyen, the US use all it had in Vietnam, know you history, US is in two Quagmire, in Iraq and Afghanistan for decade
nandakandamanda
Carefully judged by Iran, even as their population is overcome with emotion. They could have fired one ballistic missile right into the US embassy in Baghdad, for example, but they didn't. Their missiles fell on non-populated parts of these US bases.
May cooler heads prevail.
Hung Nguyen
This US–Iran crisis is what Trump and the Iranian Government really need to improve the level of support at home. It makes more sense if the Iranian missiles might aim at US depots instead of US troops. In this way, the US could see this symbolic gesture and act nothing accordingly. In case the missile attack caused substantial casualty to US troops, the US would not hesitate to use all they have to eliminate as much as they could the most important targets in Iran.
wtfjapan
We don’t need it. We can take care of whatever comes at us.
yep and when China/Russia start supplying Iran with latest weapons does the US really think it can defeat Iran. lol Iran is far from the pushover many seem to think it is. Problem is the US thinks its invisible and no a stalemate isnt a victory if anything its a loss as you havent overthrown the people you set out to, eg Vietnam , NK

Ironical that Soleimani by dying will achieve what he was trying to while living , get American troops out of Iraq.
Iran might say it is done with revenge with the missile strikes, but fact is the Iranian backed militias will make life difficult for the Americans. I see violence and more violence in Iraq in the coming months, until donny is forced to pull back the troops.

@What's worrying to me is many want the US under Trump to become an authoritarian state ala Russia or China.
No worries there and you shouldn't if your an American because under Trump that is not happening. The Patriot Act and letting sovereignty of the US to the UN was way before he was in office or considering the job. Don't blame Trump for the failures and weakening of the US by past administrations that simply is lame. Please do more research.

He broke the deal because it was not his deal
Nooooooo, he withdrew from the deal because it was enabling Iran to continue to cause mayhem and misery while continuing efforts to acquire nukes. Oh sure, there were some restrictions but eventually they were going to get nukes.

re @ Kniknaknokkaer: Get it straight won't you and quit the foolish Trump bashing, put the your facts together and post the truth: Here it is:
Iran retaliated aggressively, as expected, but Mr. Pompeo, 56 not POTUS, will be the man who helps lead the United States into another conflict in the Middle East — breaking one of Mr. Trump’s key campaign promises just as the president faces re-election.
And that is a fact. IMO I would go for the jugular of Iran and take out the top period!!

But the blood of the American dead in Iraq due to Iranian proxy groups will not stain the Iranian regime forever, right?
So, Toasted, thanks for letting us know whose side you're on. The terrorists'.

Good point. More 'westerners', especially Americans, need to read up on Eisenhower/CIA overthrowing the democratically elected leader of Iran and installing the Shah. In part so British Petroleum could continue to exploit Iran's gas and oil.

Are you referring to those whose political perspectives differ from yours? If so, that brings into question your understanding of the system the US is built on. Each American is allowed to have beliefs that differ from the government's. Hopefully the US democratic systems are strong enough to prevent extremists who want to prevent that from happening, the extremists who say all citizens must obey the government and just accept its actions, including invading foreign states, from taking total control. What's worrying to me is many want the US under Trump to become an authoritarian state ala Russia or China. Please note: I support the extremist's rights to say they favor authoritarianism. While I have the right to oppose what they want.
Raw Beer
Yeah, they have never ever provided any proof for any of their claims over the past several decades. I'm amazed by how many people keep falling for it.
Apparently, Trump had contacted the Iraqi leader to arrange a meeting between Soleimani and Iraqi and US officials to try to reduce tensions after the embassy attack; and Soleimani was on his way to that meeting when he was murdered. If this is true, the US side has demonstrated extreme deception.
RichardPearce
Here's to hoping that Trump manages to think he's successfully spun the events of the week into a YUGE victory, and reverses yesterday's refusal to respect the Iraqi government's request for the American (And coalition) troops to leave sovereign Iraqi soil so he can have a TRiUMPhant military parade in his honour to welcome them home.
But, well, Trump, American politics, certain regime's desire to have America save them from their populations, and ICC investigation, and a LOT (as in at least close to 400, and maybe more than 2,000) of 3am bowel movement attempts stand between hope and reality.

@ KniknaknokkaerToday He needlessly broke the nuclear deal with Iran, the relationship was as cordial as it had been between the 2 for ages and now look. It's totally on Trump.
So wrong and no real grasp of situation, post your facts why its Trumps fault vs blabbing.
@ToastedHeretic:Will you be following your own advice and signing up for combat?
concur: with your post: The US has been meddling in Iranian affairs for generations. Not just the US, of course but other countries including Russia and Britain. Time for an end to imperialism and slaughter. We had no business being involved in the Middle East even for oil considering there are other sources much closer to home to get it from and instead ruined those relationships vs bringing them closer.
smithinjapan
Hang on... didn't Trump say to evacuate the bases? THen say not to, then the generals said they were leaving, then not, then they'd abide by being evicted, then they were staying?
In any case, these soldiers' lives, which no Trump supporter cares about, are now in danger thanks to Trump's moves. He has not protected a single life -- he has endagered many. Well done, Trump!
Laguna
Read this morning that Iranian short range missiles have been improved to an accuracy of 30 meters. Combine that with the huge extent of these bases, and one may conclude that Iran was deliberately targeting empty land so as to show that they have the ability to hit hard targets but are holding back at the moment. NHK just reported that no Americans have been confirmed injured or dead. Let's hope that is true, and that the US and Iran can contain this.
Toasted Heretic
Millions of us around the globe are united against the threat of the Trump administration and the US war machine.

It really doesn’t matter what anybody thinks of the deal. Fact is there was a deal, it was being adhered to, and America (under Trump) tore it up. It’s not because it was a bad deal, it’s because Trump thought he could do it better. Well, he can’t. Otherwise there would be a deal. Just like so many other things he’s done away with.

lincolnman... It doesn't matter what Trump does, does it? If he retaliates, you'll complain. If he doesn't you'll claim he's breaking a promise.

OK Trumpers, Trump laid down a "Red Line" - he said if Iran retaliates against us, he'll attack 52 military and "cultural" sites in Iran...
He said the US had identified 52 Iranian sites, some "at a very high level & important to Iran & the Iranian culture", and warned they would be "HIT VERY FAST AND HARD" if Tehran struck at the US.
So, is he going to do what he promised? The clock is ticking....

This kind of ‘standing together’ garbage is exactly what the warmongers like and partly why they keep getting away with it.

Agreed - and the initial footage was broadcast live by Iran, leaving the US forces with time to prepare. This seems like a message more than an attack, though we'll see what the damage is.
The US, if it were smart, should let this go - they brought it on and are in a position to de-esculate by responding in a calm manner. But then, that's only if Trump's intention is geopolitical stability and not to take attention away from his Senate trial.
plasticmonkey
Yep. Things are certainly shaping up in the Middle East under Donny's presidency.

Donny's only hope for re-election is a war, so he got what he wanted. But talk is cheap and wars are costly.

Well standby today for the daily dose of Trumper twisting and turning....
Their Sainted Leader, the one who they cheered when he said 'No More Wars", and "Bring the troops home", has just launched a third Middle East War...one that could be far more deadly than the other two...
But that doesn't faze Repub NEOCONs - they lust for war in the sand - its in their DNA - just look at the 1991 Gulf War and 2003 Iraq War - both still ongoing.
And the "No More War" Emperor has taken off his clothes and let everyone see him for the true Repub NEOCON that he is...
That's your President Trumpers - a RINO and a NEOCON...
Just the guy you voted for - right?
"No more blood in the sand", right?
Humiliating, isn't it?

Don't forget that Iran is 2x the size of Iraq for population. Trump people seem to think that Iran is the same size as Rhode Island. Should have stayed with nuclear agreement. Boeing would be selling more jets in Iran by now (and other major industries). Iraq would be more stable too = better economy for all. Trump keeps bragging about the mile high stock prices (like his non existent wall) but he can't blame Hillary if there is a crash. The Trumps just love to hate Hillary.
No Business
Iran is about to be sent back to the Stone Age.
bass4funk
Always expect the unexpected. This is why liberals are bad when it comes to defense. They just wouldn’t expect an adversary to get down and dirty.
As well as this:
The United States was going to ignore that which is easy to detect—the design and testing of missiles—and focus on what is impossible to detect unless you get really lucky with human-intelligence penetrations or walk-ins—the development of warheads. And where have the mullahs probably put warhead design? On Revolutionary Guard Corps bases like Parchin. When we get a chance to review the Iranian archive snatched by Mossad (and I certainly hope the Israelis release all of the material), I suspect we will see in detail what we have long known: Nuclear-weapons research and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps are inseparable.
In other words, the organization that is responsible for internal oppression, foreign wars, overseas terrorism, and an expeditionary army of non-Iranian Shiites is the overlord of the nuclear-weapons program. Which brings up the most comedic moment in Obama’s nuclear adventure: the remote-controlled soil sampling of earth at Parchin, where International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors were not permitted to enter. According to Obama, Kerry, Sherman, and so many others, the JCPOA granted the International Atomic Energy Agency access to Iranian military bases for inspections. But “access” here doesn’t meet the standard, say, of the Oxford English Dictionary, where it means: “Admittance (to the presence or use of a thing or person); the action or process of obtaining stored documents, data, etc.” Not only did Obama debase American diplomacy, but his mania for a deal debased the International Atomic Energy Agency, too.
We would’ve had nothing like this if Obama wouldn’t of been too eager and foolish to try to make some rational deal with the country with which we have no diplomatic relations with.
Stop believing that a faulty and disastrous treaty that the Iranians duped the Obama administration with was ever going to be upheld.
Kniknaknokkaer
He needlessly broke the nuclear deal with Iran, the relationship was as cordial as it had been between the 2 for ages and now look. It's totally on Trump.

This is not the time for Trump bashing but uniting as a country, regardless of who is in office or Congress. We must stand united at all times against any kinds of threats period. Too late to do who started what in a region heavily involved in war for thousands of years. The US must stand together and people who call themselves Americans should put an end to their whining and man up.
Cricky
Well should get interesting as Isreal has a nuclear program and as a rogue state protected by American veto vote at the United Nations could first strike. And claim it was necessary to protect itself with American backing. They with the South African fascist (at the time) government worked on genetic poisons to kill blacks in Africa, (luckily the scientists had morals and failed on purpose) Israeli scientists were horrified when it turned out their DNA was the same as those they wanted to kill. So with so much hatred and animosity there is no need to get involed at all. Let Darwans theory play out like the Galápagos Islands.

In the meantime Saudi Arabia just sits back and laughs while Trump and the US does their dirty work against Iran . Remember Trump did nothing against Saudi Arabia over the killing of an American journalist, was that US citizen any less important than the US contractor that warranted the assassination of a top Iranian government official, regardless of his crimes. Now the world awaits to see if another useless war by the US is about to erupt in the Middle East , wasn't Iraq, Libya and Afghanistan enough for the US , it now wants a war with Iran.
vanityofvanities
It was oil involved in the trouble before. But the problem at the bottom is Israel's location in the middle east. Cannot the United States accept Israel at shomewhere in their country?
Mr. Noidall
I can totally see your point since this is the 12th attack by the Iranians and Trump hasn't done anything about for months until last now. If only he would've waited for Iran to make it a hundred attacks. But no. Trump being the warmonger he is.
SuperLib
Why do you keep trotting out this opinion piece from 2015? You do realize that this is coming from a writer who is predicting the future and not based on reality in 2020, right?
An example:
We've seen nothing like that since the deal was signed. Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Syria, none of them are in a nuclear race right now even with an escalation of proxy wars. He got it completely wrong.
Stop living in incorrect 2015 incorrect predictions and get into 2020 reality.
Mr. Noidall
Wow! Iran's "master of intrigue and force" and the "evil genius" was taken out by a dopy kindergarten jackass. Who would've guessed it.
kwatt
It seems Trump got a war as he expected and all American troops can't pull back home any more, but more soldiers would rather go there.
Kniknaknokkaer
The U.S have been itching for war with Iran since Trump came to power. Idiots.
SuperLib
Wow, they used ballistic missiles fired from Iran. Didn't expect that.

Improved? Must’ve been asleep on that one.

**Tehran gets to keep its vast nuclear infrastructure and its missile program.** And the promises from Iran only confirm the obvious: that the regime definitely has nuclear-weapons ambitions. After all, why have a massive ballistic-missile program and secret military nuclear facilities if the plan isn’t to build nuclear weapons?
The deal is temporary, by design. Even the White House doesn’t claim it will permanently keep Iran from getting a bomb. So, what’s the point?
Yeah, Obama fell for it hook, line and sinker. The Iranians were laughing their butts off and who could blame them?
Cricky
Just a thought, had Iran assassinated an American General would Americans be ok with that? Would the Lincon memorial be a valid target? And after all why are American troops even in the Middle East? Oil, protect Isreal, feed the military industrial complex? The whole thing is devoid of any basic human emotions, just out and out greed and evil intent.
SuperLib
But guys, think of the bright side. That disastrous nuclear deal that stopped Iran's enrichment and improved relations is over. Surely that's worth a new neocon proxy war.
Numan
You mean provoking another nation for the sole purpose of initiating conflict might result in retaliation? Who knew?
Vote Democrat in 2020!
KariHaruka
What did Trump expect would happen after he thought that it would be a great idea to whack the hornets nest?....
The guy is the very definition of a 'cockwomble'.
Madden
Don't know what they expected. If Iran had carried out such an assassination on one of the American military commanders they'd probably have invaded already!

If Trump tried to use nukes, he'd be Art 25'ed.
And please don't call Trump a jackass. "This wrongs the jackass."
SimondB
If this turns into a full blown war then it will be solely down to the incredibly stupid actions of Donald Trump. Wouldn't put it pass this jackass to go nuke eventually.
