"You take my water, burn my olive trees, destroy my house, take my job, steal my land, imprison my father, kill my mother, bombard my country, starve us all, humiliate us all, but I am to blame: I shot a rocket back" (Noam Chomsky)

Gaza is a reaction, Israel is the action.

Okay, first lets have a cease-fire, next lets END THE OCCUPATION which is the root cause of the conflict.

let us not kid ourselves, These will never be peace in Israel and or Palestine for as long as Israel continues to OCCUPY Palestine,

"Gaza is a reaction, Israel is the action."

Yes indeed, and not only Gaza, but the west bank and the rest of the Occupied Palestine.

Israel is part of Palestine

@Commodore As of 1948, then yes. But, Go to your local library in any part of the world and ask for historical maps of the world. Any map before 1948. Tell me which name you see, Palestine or Israel? Palestine was Colonized by the Zionists and called it Israel as we all know. Before that, Palestine was colonized by the Brits (but the name Palestine was not erased) and by the Ottmans before that etc (also the name Palestine was not erased). Even then, during Muslim rule for 1400 years, Jews, Christians, and Muslims of Palestine, lived peacefully amongst themselves. Then came the Zionists. Look at Palestine now! You dont need to be a rocket scientist to figure out who the aggressors are. Apartheid needs to end for peace to thrive. End the occupation. Return the land. Apologize for all the deaths, pain, and heartache caused over the past 70 years.

At least 230 Palestinians were killed, including 65 children and 39 women......Twelve people in Israel, including a 5-year-old boy, a 16-year-old girl

As usual the ratio of Palestinian deaths is 10-20 x more than the brutal Israel's, and Palestinian deaths include a high proportion of women and children. This tells us a lot about the Israeli government and aggressive settlers.

Zionism is a racist cancer. We should not encourage it.

11-day war

It wasn't a war. How is firing M109 Howitzers into densely populated residential areas of Gaza a war? It was just the latest round in the attempted genocide of the Palestinians in Gaza by the Israeli government.

Gangs of thugs attempted to evict Arab residents from their homes in East Jerusalem and then the Israeli police attack the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, the holiest Muslim site in the city. Hamas responded and the random mass slaughter of children ensued.

The number two covid 19 specialist in Gaza was killed in the bombing.

Okinawa is occupied????

See military bases by foreign aggressor.

Highly unlikely posters here really care about the situation between Israel and Hamas. Except to take the opportunity to express anti-semitic thoughts under the guise of criticism.

No matter how many times this is repeated, doesn't make it true.

There are anti-Semitic posts and dog whistles on occasion. Conspiracy theories, Hollywood, control, Globalism, NWO... all nasty Protocols of Elders derived garbage.

These canards are usually remarked upon. And rightly so.

But the state of Israel cannot continue brutalising Palestinian people.

A two state solution that is the least they can do.

This is not anti-Semitic as there are many Jewish voices across the world who criticise the horrific actions of the state.

I feel and support Israel and I also support peace and talks for a two State solution, but I don’t think that should happen as long as Hamas is in charge.

It's not going to happen as long as the likes of you condone or make excuses for absolutely everything the Israelis do.

Regarding the word 'Palestine'. https://ahdictionary.com/word/search.html?q=philistine

Word History: The ultimate origin of the Philistines, the inhabitants of the ancient city-states of Philistia (located in what is now the Gaza Strip and the southern Mediterranean coast of Israel), is not known, although some archaeological evidence links them with ancient peoples of the Aegean region and Anatolia. The English name of this people, the Philistines, ultimately comes from Hebrew Pəlištîm, which is in turn derived from Pəlešet, the Hebrew name for Philistia. In fact, the word Palestine, the more recent historical designation for the entire region between Lebanon and Egypt, also derives from the ancient name of Philistia. Strategically located on a trade route from Egypt to Syria, the cities of Philistia formed a loose confederacy important in biblical times, and the Bible depicts the Philistines as engaged in a struggle with the tribes of Israel for ascendancy in the region. The mighty Israelite warrior Samson, for example, fought with the Philistines on several occasions and was betrayed by his Philistine lover, Delilah.

Glad about that.

Big anger and hatred made big tragedy every time, nothing better.

Military bases in Okinawa (and on mainland Japan) are there by agreement with the Japanese government.

The government is not the people of Okinawa. It is not the parents of young women and girls who have been assaulted and worse.

And your username indicates where you stand on the whole matter. Anyway, back to Israel.

It is anti-semitic to criticize Israel when you use terms like "brutalizing Palestinian people." Just calling it out to keep people in check and aware of their prejudices.

Once again, you can keep spouting nonsense but it's not based in fact.

Tell me this, are Jewish people who speak out against the occupation and erasure of Palestinian culture, illegal land grabs and murder - are they self-loathing?

Is Haaretz?

These?

It is anti-semitic to criticize Israel when you use terms like "brutalizing Palestinian people." Just calling it out to keep people in check and aware of their prejudices.

Cookie-cutter hysterics from the right. They always try this. Emotion over logic.

It’s childish. In the adult world, functioning grown-ups don’t react like thin-skinned teenagers when criticised.

Constructive criticism of Israel is not indicative of prejudice or hatred. It’s like when a schoolteacher gives you a bad grade. It doesn’t necessarily mean he or she hates you.

Well, let’s hope that Hamas learned something, going against the IDF is just a losing battle and Israel will do what it must to protect its people ...

Do you feel all kind of tough and macho when you're writing stuff like this?

Truce in Mideast has been a common feature for years. It normally does not work.

A temporary paper deal is made only to be crumbled in no time. Parties involved are not truly sincere, conflicts would return..

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Wait, Trump and Kushner told us they fixed the Israel-Palestine issue.

Biden must have broken it in the four months since he came into power. It's the only explanation right?

...right?

very good watch in regards to the US support and recent Arab nations lack of.

Thanks EGYPT. I can understand why you won’t be helping Biden again.

I very much doubt that you can.

I'm going to make some predictions that go up to the end of June. See if I'm right

1) in the next week and a bit we're going to see at least one mutual/unilateral violation of the mutual/unilateral ceasefire.

2) after a week and a bit we're going to see the first indications of what the future will recognize as a genocide, as the effects of the Israeli regime blocking shipments of vaccines and PPE to Gaza, bombing its medical clinics and labs, and forcing the population to gather in shelters in the midst of a global epidemic. The combination of the high rates of Covid19 with the massive amount of wounded needing medical care and the number of doctors and nurses killed in the bombardment will make the worst of the India outbreak look unremarkable in comparison.

3) in about three weeks time we're going to see the Israeli election campaigns get into a feedback loop with the Iranian Presidential campaign. The outcomes of this are going to be an Iranian President with the mandate to assist the democratically elected government of Iraq in forcefully inviting the American troops who refused to leave following a polite invitation to leave from the Iraqi to leave ASAP, to assist the democratically elected government of Syria in reestablishing sovereign control over ALL of Syria including the Golan, and maybe even the mandate to help the Yemenis to exercise their right to self determination, and an Israeli government that will be extremely aggressive in brutalizing and depopulating the Occupied Territories and in launching cyber and 'covert' attacks on Iran

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Meanwhile the Biden adm. has been pretty quiet about the atrocities from israel, yet will pump their chest about china.

hypocrite much

1 ( +3 / -2 )

If that's not enough flashpoints for you, not long after that, we're going to see the first hints of who the ICC will be laying charges against and issuing internationally recognized arrest warrants for over the PREVIOUS round of the Israeli regime attacking Gaza in force, and the emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variants with significant amountsof breakthrough transmission

If people here really care about occupations, complain about Kashmir, Cyprus, and Tibet.

Or the 6 counties.

Or Okinawa.

Or Western Sahara.

Or northern Cyprus.

To be fair, you don't have to limit yourself to caring about just one occupation.

Nor does it make you anti-British, anti-American, anti-Moroccan, or anti-Turkish.

Once again, Israel should not be immune from criticisms.

Criticising the apartheid state that has carried out illegal land grabs, use of chemical weapons, and brutalization of Palestinians is valid.

It is not anti-Semitic.

A reminder that there are Christian and Jewish Palestinians.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Military bases in Okinawa (and on mainland Japan) are there by agreement with the Japanese government.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Hamas has two wings. The military wing responsible for firing the rockets and other actions. The other wing is the political one which gives direct assistance to the Gaza people.

And they have done an absolute crap job at it.

Qatar is Hamas' most important financial backer and foreign ally. Hamas is also supported by Turkey. Large parts of the population in Gaza live in dire poverty and depend on humanitarian support from abroad.

Again, with all the money and aid they get, they do nothing to improve the lives of their people, that’s on them.

It's not going to happen as long as the likes of you condone or make excuses for absolutely everything the Israelis do.

No, it has absolutely nothing to do with me, this is on Hamas and they need to decide what they want to do and how they want to help their people going forward and need to decide if they want Hamas to be in charge and lead them or elect someone that really does want peace and restart the talks and so far Hamas is leading them down the toilet

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Okinawa is occupied????

Highly unlikely posters here really care about the situation between Israel and Hamas. Except to take the opportunity to express anti-semitic thoughts under the guise of criticism.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

I’m sure Hamas will not respect this cease fire anyway so another round is coming soon

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Japan NPA statistics show that percentage wise, the assaults on young women and girls in Okinawa is committed by Japanese/Okinawans.

Back to Israel-sure, you can find some Jewish voices speaking out against the Israeli government. Try and find Arab voices in Saudi Arabia speaking out against its government. Or Arabs in Dubai, or Arabs in the Palestinian disputed territories. How would their government treat them?

As usual, people making anti-semitic remarks try and disguise it as criticism. Very predictable.

Why are you starting with the Israeli side of the conflict? Whatever you think of the fate of the Palestinian Arabs, at its very worst it would pale in comparison to the all-too-predictable fate of the Israelis at the hands of Hamas and Company if the roles were reversed. Thus, the fact is, such criticism directed against Israel is ruled by anti-semitism.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Trump was great. Brokered deals between Israel and United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco.

Now Hamas is testing Biden.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Really? Is the word Palestine mentioned in the Bible? Or the Koran?

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

Too early. Hamas needed to surrender so Israelis and Palestinians can live in peace.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

Hamas does all of this, which is why they were put into power visa democratic election.

Yeah and uh, how had it helped them and the people so far? Ponder on that one real hard before answering please.

Do you feel all kind of tough and macho when you're writing stuff like this?

Has nothing to do with being macho, I’m confident enough, but back on topic. I feel and support Israel and I also support peace and talks for a two State solution, but I don’t think that should happen as long as Hamas is in charge.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

More power to Israel, and I hope during the ceasefire people will research more about this issue so they can understand it from a factual basis.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

Why do people make excuses for absolutely everything Palestinian Arabs do?

Anti-Semitism.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

Glad there is a ceasefire.

Hamas needs statesmen to come to the table and work out a lasting plan towards creating a country. Alas, that isn't what Hamas wants. When proposed 2x previously, the Palestinians rejected the offers.

Israel isn't blameless. Expanding in any way onto Palestinian areas isn't the way towards peace.

I've worked with Israeli people for decades, former soldiers. They behave very differently at the border to instill fear and to prevent local, hand-to-hand attacks. They just want to get home at night and the border duty sucks. Part of the techniques they are taught is to behave haphazardly BEFORE any trouble begins.

Shooting 4,000 rockets? Really? How many of those fell short and killed their own people? That's an effective terrorist organization - if you can't kill the enemy, kill your own people and blame it on the enemy.

Please, all concerned get to a meeting table. Perhaps Japan can be a disinterested peace broker?

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

A Hamas official said the declaration of a truce was a defeat for Mr Netanyahu and “a victory to the Palestinian people".

Hamas gives a new meaning to the word "victory" but whatever if they see it that way who is to argue. I wonder of all the traumatised civilian residents see it that way and will be out celebrating their "victory". Anyhow the billions of dollars of aid will pour in to these victors and once again be diverted again from helping it people , hospitals and civilian infrastructure in order to buy more weapons and rebuild underground military tunnels before they start their next "victorious" war.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

Well said,

Everyone sees the difference. Many just refuse to admit to because their prejudice overcomes their empathy and they have to direct their hatred towards Israel.

-9 ( +0 / -9 )

Concerned Citizen, there is a reason that the casualty numbers are so out of whack. I will tell you why;

Israel uses their weapons to protect their citizens.

Hamas uses their citizens to protect their weapons.

See the difference?

-10 ( +2 / -12 )

History does not care about your feelings.

Sure, some Arabs are Semitic people too. That is not the issue. Anti-semite refers to prejudice against Jews in the English language.

Remember, Israel is part of Palestine too.

-11 ( +2 / -13 )

@wtfjapan?

I went to the library and saw you are right! That land was called Palestine. So, Palestine was the name of a region, not a people. So like I have been saying, there is no country called Palestine, and there never was (according to your map).

And looking at the region of Palestine--you are right! The library told me the aggressors were Egypt, Trans-Jordan, Iraq, and Syria, who attacked Israel upon its creation.

But if you want to insist people who live/lived in the Palestine region are Palestinians, then Israelis are Palestinians.

The region of Palestine is kind of like North America. North America is the name of a region; it is not a country.

But two countries exist in North America--Canada and the US.

My bad; not a good example, because in the Palestine region only one country exists. Israel.

-11 ( +0 / -11 )

It is impossible for Israel to occupy Palestine, if one understands history.

Thank Israel though for expelling Jordan, which had annexed the lands everyone speaks about. Interesting that Palestinian Arabs did not complain about being occupied by Jordan though.

Maybe because it is only possible to be considered an occupier if the land belongs to another country.

There is no and never has been a country called Palestine. Or any derivative of it.

So, no occupation by Israel.

If people here really care about occupations, complain about Kashmir, Cyprus, and Tibet.

-13 ( +4 / -17 )

Well, let’s hope that Hamas learned something, going against the IDF is just a losing battle and Israel will do what it must to protect its people and Hamas Will always come out the loser. If they really truly want peace, they should do everything in their power to aid and help their people, build schools, rebuild and denounce all terrorist acts towards the Jewish State.

Israel needs to stop bombing going forward allow talks with who ever is left in the Hamas authority and negotiate a permanent ceasefire and help with aid and show that not only can they defend the homeland, but that they can be compassionate and help all the innocent people that were caught up in this senseless violence that Hamas subjected its people to.

-14 ( +4 / -18 )

it seems like Hamas cave after noticing they are on the losing end. Didn't they pledge to fight till the end and would make Isreal pay dearly? Seems like the lack of electricity, food and fuel pull them back to reality.

-17 ( +3 / -20 )

Historical facts. Anti-semites seem to thrive on fake news.

-18 ( +2 / -20 )

Hopefully the Palestinian Arab terrorist group Hamas shows more concern for its people and does not initiate another terrorist attack on the innocents of Israel.
