“He was becoming detached from reality,” said former Attorney General William Barr,

Sounds like a non-medical opinion coming from a lawyer.

They know came to the conclusion Trump is crazy

There are two sides to January 6. There’s the mob insurrection at the capitol, and there’s the various plots to nullify the election results by manipulating the Justice Dept, state and federal legislatures, state Secretaries of State, the VP, and even the military. Trump was the prime instigator of all of these plots. He is the one who initiated the BS claim of voter fraud, and he had the loudest voice to spread this lie. Furthermore, Trump not only did nothing to stop the insurrectionists until it was almost over, he actively sought to circumvent law, both statutory and common.

who called the voting fraud claims “bull——," “bogus” and “idiotic,”

Sadly a lot of idiotic people believed it. Lots of keyboard time spent screeching about bamboo fibres and Hillary something blah.

Hopefully next time they’ll accept failure, but I doubt it.

The signs were there in 2015. He is an egomaniac of the highest degree who has no respect for our Constituion, law and order, other people, maybe not even himself. Trump is the biggest and most disgusting traitor of all time, a friend to no one and an absolute disgrace.

As he mulls another White House run, Trump insists the committee's investigation is a “witch hunt.”

Correct.

Last week he said Jan 6 “represented the greatest movement in the history of our country.”

Correct.

Definitely, and unfortunately, accept failure with the current administration.

Does anyone seriously not?

-13 ( +6 / -19 )

Just a moment! The headline needs some editing:

Trump 'detached from reality'

There! I fixed it!

2 ( +10 / -8 )

@painkiller - Trump was either deliberately ignoring all the advice that he had lost the election, and pushed ahead in an attempt to overthrow the election, in which case he is a criminal, or he seriously believed that there has been election fraud and pushed ahead with the alternative elector scheme, in which case he was deluded and criminal.

So which is it, just criminal, or deluded and criminal?

9 ( +14 / -5 )

Donald Trump’s closest campaign advisers, top government officials and even his family were dismantling his false claims of 2020 election fraud ahead of Jan 6, but the defeated president was becoming “detached from reality” and clinging to outlandish theories to stay in power, the committee investigating the Capitol attack was told Monday.

"Detached from reality" - nice way of saying he's flat out crazy...deranged....demented....unbalanced....bonkers...

“He was becoming detached from reality,” said former Attorney General William Barr, who called the voting fraud claims “bull——," “bogus” and “idiotic,” and resigned in the aftermath. “I didn’t want to be a part of it."

Even his loyal protector from the Mueller investigation couldn't stomach Trump's crazy...

The panel also provided new information about how Trump's fundraising machine collected some $250 million in the aftermath of the November election to keep fighting, mostly from small-dollar donations from Americans. One plea for cash went out 30 minutes before the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection.

BINGO! And there we get to the heart of the issue - "The Big Lie" was just to continue "The Big Scam".... With Trump, it's always been about the Benjamin's and how much he could hustle from his supporters...and it continues to this day...

Stepien and senior adviser Jason Miller described how the festive mood at the White House on election night turned as Fox News announced Trump had lost the state of Arizona to Joe Biden, and aides worked to counsel Trump on what to do next.

Sweet justice - Fox which had been in the tank for him the whole election was the first network to call him a "Loser".... No wonder he disses Fox to this day...

And lots more to come...

8 ( +13 / -5 )

last week [Trump] said Jan 6 “represented the greatest movement in the history of our country.”

Trump keeps implicating himself. He is clearly expressing mens rea (intention or willingness to commit wrongdoing).

5 ( +12 / -7 )

There are two sides to January 6. There’s the mob insurrection at the capitol, and there’s the various plots to nullify the election results by manipulating the Justice Dept, state and federal legislatures, state Secretaries of State, the VP, and even the military.

But weaponizing the FBI to and using a former British spy to create a false dossier and drive a Russian collusion is not manipulation?

Trump was the prime instigator of all of these plots.

So even when he called for the protesters to be peaceful and leave peacefully?

He is the one who initiated the BS claim of voter fraud, and he had the loudest voice to spread this lie.

Stacy Abrams did as well and yet, everyone took her seriously and still think she was cheated and she screams a lot, is she delusional or does she have a legitimate gripe?

Furthermore, Trump not only did nothing to stop the insurrectionists

Whoa, he tried

https://www.newsmax.com/politics/trump-riot-national-guard-troops/2021/03/01/id/1011926/

The Dems continue to dig that hole deeper for themselves.

-11 ( +7 / -18 )

It is clear that no evidence will be sufficient to convince Trump supporters that the election was fair and was not stolen and that Trump's assertion otherwise is nonsense. In any other time the evidence being produced, along with the fact that numerous court cases to overturn the election were dismissed (in many cases by judges appointed by Trump) would be overwhelming as to the validity of the election. In today's weird and wonderful world Trump's supporters can claim up is down and that the evidence being produced is not meaningful or trust worthy in spite of the fact that much of the testimony is being given by some of Trumps former closest advisors and even members of his own family. I am far from being a supporter of the Democratic party but I am able to tell reality from fiction which unfortunately is beyond many of Trump's supporters.

5 ( +10 / -5 )

Trump either knew he had lost the election, disqualifying him from office due to treason. The best case scenario (for him), would be that he still believed the election was stolen after EVERYBODY told him it wasn't and literally nothing he had ended up holding up to scrutiny, but that would mean he's mentally incompetent to, well to function in life without people holding your hand. Definitely not competent to be president.

And look how many enablers we had here who made the same claims of voter fraud he did. I wonder how stupid they feel now, hearing that all the intelligent Republicans, even the ones that were in Trump's pocket, knew that this voter fraud claim was in fact fraud being perpetuated by the president on the voters themselves.

Of course, none of them will want to admit that out loud, because it will mean they also have to admit they donated to the Save America PAC, which ended up being the Save Trump's Hotels and Mark Meadows PAC.

I imagine it can't feel nice to suddenly realize you were a sucker through and through and bought Trump's snake oil. The only way these people could have been stupider is if he threw in a free bottle of snake oil with every donation.

9 ( +13 / -4 )

Whoa, he tried

Lol No. He claims he tried. But also Trump lies.

Oh, the list of prominent Democrats that fit these descriptions to a tee.

The signs were there in 2015. He is an egomaniac of the highest degree who has no respect for our Constituion, law and order, other people,

Yeah, let me guess, this administration or better yet, the swamp has?? Better rethink that one deeply guy. Be careful with that one.

Trump is the biggest and most disgusting traitor of all time,

Because he put the nation first over other countries and actually cared and focused on small businesses, and their owners, believes in a secure closed border, pushed NATO to pay their fair share and basically told conservatives they should respond to Democrats in the same language they speak is a sign of a traitor to the establishment cause…sign me up, heck yeah!

a friend to no one and an absolute disgrace.

Not to half the nation and if you want to know what a disgrace looks like, go to your nearest gas station and take a walk along the border, then let’s have this discussion again.

9 ( +14 / -5 )

On election night itself, Trump was “growing increasingly unhappy” and refusing to accept the results as they came in, former campaign manager Bill Stepien said in testimony played before the House panel.

Most of America were not even sure of the election results that night. And is it news to say Trump was "growing increasingly unhappy"? Is this the smoking guns the Democrats are relying on?

Um, no. It's not. All the evidence they laid out proving it in the hearings is. Which part of those mountains of evidence proving Trump tried to stage a coup (that you guys enabled) are you claiming to be fake news?

7 ( +12 / -5 )

Which part of those mountains of evidence proving Trump tried to stage a coup (that you guys enabled) are you claiming to be fake news?

the part where the DOJ is not convinced enough to indict for anything.

StrangerlandToday  09:04 am JST

Which part of those mountains of evidence proving Trump tried to stage a coup (that you guys enabled) are you claiming to be fake news?

All of it.

There was no attempt to stage a coup.

-11 ( +5 / -16 )

There was no attempt to stage a coup.

Yes, you're clearly more credible than the proof they've shown in the hearings and on public record. Q has assured us of this. I saw it on video with my own eyes.

Yep, there was no insurrection, fake news, deep fake movies, right? No one tried to hang Mike Pence, and the election was stolen from Q.. I mean, Trump, right?

5 ( +10 / -5 )

Mountains of evidence of guilt, yet so many denials.

I wonder why that is?

5 ( +11 / -6 )

When the President's most trusted advisor, the guy that altered the Mueller report to save him from humiliation, who complied with the President's every request (except one) says Trump is "detached from reality"....and when his daughter and clearly favorite child says she doesn't believe him.....and when his right-hand campaign manager says Trump knew all along he lost, but continued with The Big Lie just to con his supporters out of their money...

Yet these loyal supporters continue to defend him with delusions of fraud....that is unproven in court over 64 times, and that Rudy Giuliani was forced to admit under oath didn't exist...

And when the only documented cases of fraud are from a Republican operative in Florida instructing Floridians how to double-vote in Georgia....and the President's Chief of Staff Mark Meadows illegally declaring two residences allowing him and his wife to vote twice....

It's clear MAGA-world really is a cult...

6 ( +11 / -5 )

Mountains of evidence of guilt, yet so many denials.

At this point, admitting the truth would require that they got immensely suckered and almost sold out their country for it. I don't think we'll see anything other than doubling down.

8 ( +12 / -4 )

Because the DOJ has never made that statement.

where is the indictment? its been a looooong time since Jan 6, 2021.

-9 ( +5 / -14 )

Oh dear, you weren't going for a false equivalency were you?

One side claiming the election was rigged to the other side claiming the election was rigged years later. Seems pretty darn equal to me.

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

so what was the bombshell, the walls are closing in, takeaway from Day 2?

that Trump didnt agree with people who work for him that there was no fraud and wanted it investigated?

sounds reasonable to me and matches previous Democrat losers who claimed they won even years later.

-9 ( +4 / -13 )

The main fraud is the former Insurrectionist-in-Chief, and his gullible followers will continue to spread the big lie for decades to come.

We the People of the United States of America deserve better.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

One side claiming the election was rigged to the other side claiming the election was rigged years later. Seems pretty darn equal to me.

lol No. These are not equivalent. While the more salacious claims of Trump-Russia collusion were unsubstantiated, what was uncovered was a number of crimes and contacts/communication between members of the Trump campaign.

Interestingly enough, Trump supporters don't even view those convictions as legitimate.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

There was no attempt to stage a coup.

I guess a coup to them is a a few guys loitering around Congress taking selfies on a viking hat in Pelosi's seat lol

-9 ( +3 / -12 )

Getting harder for Trump supporters to keep on supporting his treason and claim they are credible people, but some are still desperately grasping at straws and clinging to the insanity. Trump KNOWINGLY engaged in treasonous behaviour, and these Americans support it -- which means they are not only against and hate their own country, but have helped raise their arms against it. They are not American -- they are anything but.

5 ( +10 / -5 )

The thing is, IF Trump sincerely believed that election fraud had cost him the victory, can he actually be charged with treason? In that case he is wrong, and possibly deluded, but not criminal AFAIK.

And, as usual, the entire exercise is political theatre. The Democratic Party equivalent of "Look! A squirrel!" in an attempt to distract voters from the shambles that is the Biden presidency. But nobody truly believes this was an attempted coup. A coup with no guns? In America? Please.

-3 ( +6 / -9 )

now its treason? liberals throw around these words like they think those words mean what they are talking about. Coup, treason, insurrection.

None of these mean what you seem to think they do, nor describe in any reality what actually happened on Jan 6th.

-6 ( +5 / -11 )

A coup with no guns? In America? Please.

There were guns. I'm not sure why you think there weren't.

What do you think they were trying to do there, if not give the election to someone who hadn't won?

3 ( +9 / -6 )

I think most people who took part in the riot really didn't know why they were there. Not a lot of deep thinking happened that day. Lots of people caught up in "the moment", wanted to voice their frustrations, etc. You have to remember, the vast majority of the crowd that heard Trump speak that day took his advice to go home in peace. A few went to the Capitol, of THAT group only a few broke in and acted like morons. But trying to make this seem like a carefully planned event is lunacy.

-5 ( +6 / -11 )

Trumpy is a megalomaniac narcissistic clown who lives his own sick reality which he wants to impose on his battalion of blind sheep.

Well, it seems like the Kremlin is actively tuning in to the hearings too....

*The House select committee’s primetime Jan. 6. hearings are causing conniptions in Moscow. The attempted insurrection was embraced by the Kremlin as cause célèbre, with Russian President Vladimir Putin himself calling for an investigation into the death of Ashli Babbitt, who was part of the crowd attacking the U.S. Capitol. Russia’s state-controlled media obsessively covered the notorious attack, praising the would-be insurrectionists as law-abiding protesters and criticizing the United States for prosecuting them. But now, propagandists seem to be concerned that the hearings may negatively impact the chances of re-election for *their so-called “partner,” former U.S. President Donald J. Trump.

I think most people who took part in the riot really didn't know why they were there.

You said this before. These hearings have proven many, many people were fully aware of what was happening. Proud membership increased threefold after Trump praising them. They were there that day. People that day were there specifically because Trump Tweeted for people to come and that it would be "wild."

Trump's protector, favorite AG, and conservative icon speaks;

Former Attorney General Bill Barr laid out his frank assessment of former President Donald Trump's election loss in Pennsylvania during Monday's House Select Committee hearing — and it wasn't voter fraud.

"I think once you actually look at the votes, there's a [sic] obvious explanation," Barr said of Trump's election fraud conspiracy theories. "For example, in Pennsylvania, Trump ran weaker than the Republican ticket generally. He ran weaker than two of the state candidates. He ran weaker than the congressional delegation running for federal Congress."

Barr added that Trump "generally was a weak element on the Republican ticket, so that does not suggest that the election was stolen by fraud."

I wonder why Trump didn't march with his supporters to the Capitol Building?

2 ( +6 / -4 )

Trump deserves to be imprisoned if he's committed half of the treason he's being accuse of, but he is a U.S. president so not being allowed to ever run for and hold any public office again would be enough.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

More evidence from today's hearing that's it's all about the grift....

Rep. Zoe Lofgren presented evidence during the Jan. 6 committee hearing Monday detailing how the Trump campaign used the false claim that the 2020 election was stolen to con supporters to the tune of $250 million. The California Democrat went into more detail about the alleged scam later in the day while speaking with CNN’s Jake Tapper.

Tapper asked Lofgren about a comment she made after the hearing about Trump and his family benefitting from donations meant to fund election integrity, and if they did so to the extent that it was criminal. “I don’t know. We’re a legislative committee, so that’s for somebody else to decide,” Lofgren replied. “But, for example, we know that [Kimberly] Guilfoyle was paid for the introduction she gave at the speech on January 6th. She received compensation for that.”

“$60,000 for two-and-a-half minutes,” Lofgren added before noting that money also went to Mark Meadows’ foundation and another organization that employed former Trump administration staff.

Come on Trump supporters, open your eyes....refuse to be played and conned....

oh now "sedition" is added to the list of misunderstood words- anything else?

brought to you by the people standing in front of buildings on fire and hurling rocks at police while claiming "mostly peaceful protest"

-10 ( +2 / -12 )

Isn't this interesting;

Former Donald Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien said he quit his high-profile job because he did not think the campaign's embrace of baseless claims of voter fraud after election night, and at Trump's behest, was "honest or professional."

Stepien's comments came during pre-recorded video testimony played during a House select committee hearing on Monday where he described a Trump campaign that was becoming increasingly divided because the president was citing widespread voter fraud to baselessly claim he had not lost the 2020 election.

As Trump made his claims, reporters began referring to Stepien's team as "team normal" and the other team run by Rudy Giuliani, the former advisor and personal lawyer to Trump, as "Rudy's team."

https://www.yahoo.com/news/trumps-ex-campaign-manager-bill-164206164.html

So we had "Team Normal" and "Team Crazy" inside Trump's WH...and we clearly know which one he sided with....

The one that screamed "fraud" at every opportunity to grift their supporter's money...except when they were under oath in front of a judge - then it was "This is not a fraud case"....

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Stormcrow let the cat out of the bag. I think the truth is finally being said out loud. This is all REALLY about the 2024 election. The Democrats are terrified, TERRIFIED that Trump may run again. So they are doing all they can to prevent it. Trump v Biden 2.0 would be a wipeout of epic proportions for the Democrats, even if Joe is capable of running for re-election. There is nobody on the Democratic bench that is able to step in, let alone handle a second Trump campaign.

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

I always thought Trump was knowingly scamming morons and the mentally unbalanced with the election fraud nonsense. He has had a history of scamming.

I suppose this doesn’t rule out the possibility that he did actually believe what he was selling this time.

As a betting man, I’d still go with he knew what he was shoveling.

It’s worth remembering that Trump has claimed serious election fraud in 3 different elections he was involved in.

This is his habit. It’s a very dangerous one.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

“He was becoming detached from reality,” said former Attorney General William Barr,

Long-time Trump watchers know the operative word is "is", not the soft-ball " was becoming", a grammatical nuance that Barr uses to exculpate himself from the fact that when he accepted the job of AG , TFG was already manifestly far-gone down the road to self-delusion showing unmistakable symptoms of the Dunning–Kruger effect. To speculate on how Trump's "detachment from reality" all began would take us back to his early life traumatized by an unhinged authoritarian father. as a child he found an escape door into "magic realism". Bringing him to trial and giving him the chance to fess up for once in his life might be cathartic enabling him at long last to return to some semblance of reality while removing the specter of more MAGA curdling America's bigly damaged democracy.

A drunken Rudy Giuliani advised then-President Donald Trump to declare victory on election night 2020 despite the fact that Fox News had called Arizona for Joe Biden and votes had yet to be fully counted in other battleground states, former advisers to the president told the Jan. 6 select committee.

During Monday's public hearing, the committee played edited excerpts of testimony given by Giuliani, former Trump campaign chairman Bill Stepien, former Trump senior adviser Jason Miller, Ivanka Trump and others that detailed the former New York mayor's actions on election night.
