This might be the time when the Queen can use her reserve powers and call fresh elections and possibly new referendum if May or deputy refuse to call.

God forbid that Boris Johnson ever gets anywhere near Downing Street 10. He is a clown of the highest order and was a disaster as foreign secretary. Him as PM? No, no, no!

If these five ( Boris Johnson, Dominic Raab, Andrea Leadsom, Jeremy Hunt, Michael Gove)  are the options, God save the Queen.

I concur wholeheartedly.

John is an oaf. I've met the man and yes, he is charming but he doesn't fool me. When will the electorate stop doffing their caps to the Eton toffs who care nothing about the ordinary folk?

Former foreign minister Boris Johnson, the favorite to replace May, was first out of the blocks, saying Britain should be prepared to leave the EU without a deal to force the bloc to offer a "good deal".

Only the bloc won't. Its a take it or leave it deal. And Boris has no problem with a no deal brexit. So if he gets in, that's what the UK will get.

This idea that a new prime minister will be a tougher negotiator and will put it up to the EU and get a much better deal for Britain? That's not how the EU works," Coveney told Ireland's Newstalk radio station.

Hate to say it but he's correct. Even if he is another elitist. Former Clongowes pupil, no less.

If elected (hopefully not) Johnson can join Trump, Kim and Putin in the demagogues-with-bad-hairstyles bund.

John is an oaf.

Lol. And so am I! Obviously meant Johnson...

Boris Johnson ….....

We will leave the EU on October 31, deal or no deal. The way to get a good deal is to prepare for a no deal.” …......

Johnson statement is a contradiction, a paradox, a arrogant presumption, a huff puff I'm going to put my foot down with a firm hand, so there thank you very much!

Instead of wafting back the champers, chomping hors d'oeuvres, treating negotiating UK withdrawal from the European Union like to some toffs drunken Bullington soirée Johnson needs a thorough technical legislative understanding of terms set out in the Lisbon Treaty.

The rules based Lisbon Treaty states clearly and guarantees “four freedoms” the freedom of movement, goods/capital, services, and labour, also the internal single market, and customs union is under pinned by a protective regulatory framework.

It is pompous posturing to publicly state a negotiating strategy based on a threatening, “The way to get a good deal is to prepare for a no deal”

Devote the time to formulating a step by step 21st century global trade policy, a complete restructuring of UK industrial and economic business model.

This a once in a lifetime opportunity to overhaul every area/sector, tax, employment, energy etc. Flexible but fair social policies. A coherent agenda to tackle climate change, and be rid of the destructive and harmful effects of the common agricultural policy.

Politely but firmly break cleanly with confidence not anger.

A friendly thank you, but sorry, no thank you.

A no deal brexit is pretty much inevitable now and that's fine; no one should be forced to stay in a union. The EU has fully prepared for a no deal, time to cut the umbilical cord. Whoever gets the pm job should just get on with it, no fluffy/indecisive type pls!

Johnson's a boor and might actually suit euros blunt/direct style.

Johnson is a lazy racist moron. As such he perfectly represents the UK Conservative party, so there’s a good chance he’ll win.

Johnson recently tweeted that he’d voted in the local elections and told others to get out and vote too. He later deleted the tweet after he found out that there were no local elections in his area.

Maybe his supporters found it charming.

the damage the Tory party has inflicted on The UK ,is incredible. All over a vanity project. It will take them years to get over this.As an Irishman it's like watching a car crash.Grotesque but you just watch in disbelief at the levels of bufoonery.Don't think even Shakespeare could make this seem believable.

Together with the Labour Party.

Putin might have to take over temporarily.

@wipeout, I don't disagree with anything you wrote. Meant ''fine' as in 'understandable' (as a non-brit).

The uk will always be a 'reasonably' attractive option for foreign businesses/workers, English being the international language, which is a massive advantage for the UK economy. Doing biz with them is the easy option and that won't change after Brexit. A weak pound may not be a bad thing either (will boost manufacturing exports).

Having said that, I don't believe that leaving the EU was the best option (unless Brits are happy to scale things down, make less $ and become Western Europe's warehouse). Just making things so much harder imo but that's your call (leaving the largest/wealthiest region in the world makes little sense to me).

Johnson is a lying, philandering, incompetent who spaffed away millions in public funds on a garden bridge that was never built and was supposed to be entirely privately funded. During his time as foreign minister he achieved nothing constructive and managed to get Ms Zaghari-Ratcliffe an even longer prison sentence in Iran simply by opening his mouth. How anyone could give even the slightest consideration to making this oaf prime minister is beyond me.

Johnson is one of the few politicians who induce a feeling of disgust in me: he is a hateful swine.

Can't trust anyting Boris says. He voted for May's surrender treaty when it was brought back to the house for the third time, it its worst form. He's only in this for himself.

The Labour Party has been out of power for 9 years. I’ll rip into Labour as much as anyone, but Brexit and the ensuing mess is the Tory’s Frankenstein. Damn them for this.

@serrano Putin might have to take over temporarily.

And there you have it. A GoTrumper showing once again support for Russia (and its 'stud' leader) and opposition to democracies. Recall the posters (US and 'foreign') who've said they'd 'rather be Russian than Democrat', those who feel closer kinship to people in a country ruled by an autocrat than they do their fellow US citizens. Trump's attracted an array of anti-Americans who want to undermine US institutions to allow Trump and his 'elite' to take over.

The next Tory leader will automatically become Prime Minister. The candidates will be whittled down to a choice of 2 and then there'll be a vote by members of the Tory Party.

The BBC says that membership of the Tory Party stood at about 124,000 in 2018, although the precise number is a secret:

97% are white

86% are social group ABC1

84% are against a second referendum

75% think young people don't have enough respect for traditional values

72% are over 45.

66% want a no-deal Brexit

60% live in Eastern England, London, the South East and the South West.

60% support the death penalty

38% are over 65

And they will get to choose the next leader of Britain without an election. There's demokurashi for you.

Goldorak:

"...no one should be forced to stay in a union."

The confederates agree...the Union in that case though had an army.

The Holy Grail of political chancers, the premiership's poisoned chalice brimful of Brexit unicorns, awaits the next victim to sup from it. Even if Bojingo quaffs it, the chimera of Brexlandia will still elude him and he'll be the numpty dumpty whose great fall will pull down the whole rotten Tory temple of austerity. Corbyn will then have to clean up their mess, but at least he'll be able to count on the help of a relieved and grateful EU to rebuild a Britain for the many.

If a choice had to be made, sort of life or death, remember we are talking about the next PM, who and why? …....

Hell, I am not going first, it is not a women and children thing.

With the internet and online banking, why don't we just vote directly instead of relying on...these people to make decisions for us? Even a hacker couldn't make things much worse than it already is...and it would create a new business of anti-hacking voting software.
