A welcome, if temporary respite from. gov. Helmet Hair’s buffoonery.

Now that the GQP dog has caught the car, a number of GQP pols are thinking “I just wanted to use it to fund raise. I didn’t think I would have to GOVERN on it. What do I do now and more importantly, HOW DO I FUND RAISE?”

One hopes that the 69% of women including a majority of Republican women who disagree with this ruling, who think that it’s not right that 3 geriatric men, a pervy drunk and a religious zealot made them 2nd class citizens will vote as such.

It will probably be overturned knowing Florida.

Abortion is NOT a human right, but people should be able to control their own body and that is a right.

There is no right to medical care in the US either, BTW.

There is no right to drive a vehicle, but there is a right to bare arms and for freedom of speech, religion, and not to testify against oneself (or a married spouse).

Also, the right to Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness exists as inalienable rights granted by the creator. Happiness for the mother and "life" for the fetus and liberty for each is the real question.

When is a fetus a bunch of cells and when is the instant that it becomes a "human life" to be protected? In short, when is a fetus deemed a "person"?

Lungs don't happen until twenty-one weeks. Can a person exist without lungs?

Is having cognitive sapient awareness a requirement to being "a person?" That happens around week 22.

Are less than 5000 cells dividing in a womb a person? Cancer growths can be much larger than that and have human cells too, but nobody would question whether it is a "person" or not.

Is the fact that the cells are fertilized and in a womb the deciding factor? What about fetuses that grow outside the womb? Babies have been born that grew outside the womb/uterus, so that doesn't seem to fit.

The embryo had attached itself to where the fallopian tube meets the uterus, the medical team explained – a cornual pregnancy. In most cases the tube ruptures and the pregnancy ends around the 12-14th week.

Nemo, while I agree with your sentiments, I disagree with using personal attacks and slurs against the opposition.

It is definitely possible for intelligent people to come to different opinions on this most difficult question. I'm inclined to use pure science in the final decision, not using guidance from a translation of a translation of a translation of old fantasy stories.

Be my guest. I’ve had it with anti-science, anti-factual (in fact they are not immune to facts - facts are down right toxic to them. They are allergic to facts.) religious fascists imposing their beliefs on others to engender the goodwill of their chosen deity.

So I’ll stick with calling them what they are.

“Let each state decide”

”oh wait, no, not like that”

thats not "the state" just an activist judge who doesnt want to follow the Supreme Court ruling.

He also voted for mask mandates in schools for kids.

Well, that’s one personal opinion.

So I’ll stick with calling them what they are.

That goes both ways, just as long as both sides are respectful and don’t go on a destructive path, let the insults unfurl on both sides.

Florida and Kentucky can ignore the SC ruling. How about that? States deciding.

The U.S. Supreme Court, the court that Trump built.

As you can see, elections have consequences. Now a minority of people in the US are telling the majority what to do.

The GOP are afraid of the majority because they know if the majority really chose things there would be a lot more abortions and a lot less guns.

No, the majority now can get to decide how they want their states to address the issue and not 9 Federal justices that held up the rights of the people, that's nowhere anything of a democracy.

The GOP are afraid of the majority because they know if the majority really chose things there would be a lot more abortions and a lot less guns.

Nonsense, if the GOP were afraid they wouldn't be seeing historic political wins everywhere, the people could easily vote them out and vote Democrat and that is just not happening and now the Democrats are seeing firsthand what it means to be lonely marginalized as a party.

States deciding.

Sure, states.

Not Democrat judges in states that republicans won and control.

Poor headline, Florida doesnt have an abortion ban. Just a limit to the first 15 weeks of pregnancy. This is a reasonable position, one that compares favourably to the standard in many areas of the world. France is 12 weeks. Germany is 12 weeks, but also requires mandatory counselling.

So what is the problem here?

States deciding.

Sure, states.

Why not individuals? Isn't it supposed to be the Land of the Free?

Only free if you're not female? Sounds a lot like another country the US recently pulled out of.

Cleo, hysterics aside, what country has abortion laws that you would favor? What are YOUR standards and restrictions, if any? That may dictate what you find distateful or necessary.

For me it is pretty simple. Up to 14-15 weeks, allow abortions. Especially when they can be done by medication rather than surgery. After that, no unless the mother's life is in danger due to the pregnancy. This is a fairly middle-of-the-road position in most places.
