North Korea is trying to communicate a message that things will not go as Washington wishes, if it doesn’t accept the North’s demands,

You don’t say? Perhaps Washington should communicate some messages of its own although the last time it did so with the B-Bs, it had to let the North know they were there as the North’s radar was too decrepit to pick them up….

Did princess whack-job get her panties in a bunch?

The DPRK, cough, cough, "leadership" reminds me of a family where nobody ever earned any kind of college degree, everyone works a menial job in retail or as a laborer, their home is a cluttered mess and yet they act like they are wealthy and important and their stuff is the most valuable stuff in the world. You know you all know a family like that. Obnoxious as heck but you try to ignore them. That is the Kims.

He said North Korea may think it has an opportunity now to win concessions from U.S. President Joe Biden's administration while it is embroiled in a domestic debate following the chaotic pullout from Afghanistan.

What bizarre thinking. This is probably the very last thing anyone in the Biden administration is thinking about. It would be like throwing gasoline on a fire. There may be discussions among lower level diplomats but it will be a couple of years before the current administration is going to make any kind of public diplomacy with the Norks, if ever. Personally I don't see any good reason to engage them. Be well armed, well trained and patient.

What to do when the main problem seems to be the pathological and intrusive, but powerful, Uncle?s

You mean the PRC? They will never allow a unified Korea on their border if that Korea is democratic, capitalist and western aligned. One of China's great fears is of the US peeling them away from China and into the US sphere of influence. That would be viewed by the CCP and an existential threat. I hope you realize the CCP will commit China to war to prevent that from happening.

Kim Dong-yub, a professor at the University of North Korean Studies in Seoul, said Wednesday’s tests appeared to be of an improved version of a short-range missile it tested in March. He said the weapon is likely modeled on Russia’s Iskander missiles, which are designed to fly at relatively low altitudes, making them harder to be intercepted by missile defense systems.

More hype. They are not harder to intercept. Read this detailed analysis.

Oh wow! We're really scared of her. It appears as if N. Korea is taunting S. Korea and the US to start up again. It just takes just one mistake to start things up again.

Does anyone in the world want anything to do with North Korea? If it wasn’t for their leadership always acting crazy no one would even know they exist.

NK's beloved leader is feeling unloved and is seeking attention.

Kim and his insane sister aren't building nukes to have and to hold and to sit on. They're going to use them. It's only a matter of time.

That girl is psychotic

Sigh. She's a married mother of two, hardly a "girl". Read a site called "38 North, Informed analysis of events in and around North Korea" to gain an understanding of their view of the world and why they behave the way they do. The Norks see the world around them in a very different way than westerners do. Consider that her grandfather Kim Il-Sung hated both Mao and Nikita Kruschev and distrusted both greatly. DPRK saw the USSR abandon Vietnam when China invaded in 1979. They worry that if push came to shove neither China nor Russia would support them. That drives their nuclear weapons program. Even Kim Il-Sung once approached the US looking to free DPRK from reliance on the Chinese and Soviets. That went nowhere but the Norks really want to get away from their reliance on them. But they are kind of like an autistic kid who doesn't know how to communicate nicely and always resorts to belligerence.

I keep thinking what a waste she is in the dictator business, when she could be a great dominatrix.

She must be lots of fun at a party.

To be clear, she said:

"If the president's reported slip of tongue is true, he would be quite foolish as president of a country. We express great regret over the president using the word provocation that reporters use thoughtlessly," Kim said.

"If the president joins in slandering the other party, it will inevitably result in counteractions, which will then be sure to lead to the complete destruction of relations between North and South Korea," she said in the statement carried by the official Korean Central News Agency.

Kim, however, left room for change in inter-Korean ties, saying "that is not what we hope for."

"It's better to be careful about what you do and say," she said.

Kim blasted Moon for calling [North Korean] launches a "provocation," saying they were "normal self-defense act."

"What we are engaged in right now is not a provocation as speculated by South Korea ... It is a normal self-defense act aimed at implmenting the key tasks of a five-year plan on defense science development and weapons system development."

To calm down both, I would fire a missile from own Takeshima into NK EEZ. That would be an idea to answer all their questions with only one training shot. lol

I would be interested on Desert's take as he/she seems to be well-informed, but my impression is that the successful SLBM test from the South has really gotten the North spooked.

While the North still tests on submersible barges, their antiquated subs sound like my washing machine when it becomes unbalanced and I have to wonder if they could handle the changes in buoyancy associated with an under-water launch.

The South on the other hand, seems at this point to be able to hang out just off the continental shelf below the thermocline and launch with little to no warning against targets deep in the North.

Again, I would be interested to hear more from Desert on this topic.

Thank you in advance.

Lol, North Korea, don't go into an arms race if ya don't want an arms race

Don't start nuthin'; won't be nuthin'!

What a sourpuss shrew she is. She's just sassing off the yap again, she's peeved because the new POTUS ain't gonna kiss up to her bro Mr. Marshmallow Head. So she's gotta look tu-tu-tu-tu-tu-TUFF.

She needs to just shut up and go away. Kim Yo Jong is acting like she's BAD but she looks totally pathetic.

That is part of it, yes. South Korea also just announced they have the new Hyunmoo 4 ballistic missile with sufficient range to reach anywhere in DPRK that obtw sports a 2000kg hard target penetrator warhead the South Koreans claim is capable of busting North Korea's deeply buried nuclear and command sites. South Korea has had long range cruise missiles with 400-500kg warheads for many years and carries these on their surface ships. This new class of sub has something very much like, if not exactly the same as, the Virginia Payload Module that can carry six cruise missiles or a ballistic missile. With six such modules one of these subs can carry a mixture of ballistic and cruise missiles that will certainly complicate the Norks air defense problems.

China and Russia do, Cults of personality, Recall it was Mao and Stalin who got the Kim regime going, and today Xi and Putin follow in their paths.

North Korea trade

Likewise, most imports come from China (US$3.23 billion) but other main partners include Russia (US$74.1 million), India (US$59.1 million) and, surprisingly, Latin American countries Peru and Honduras, which sent small quantities of goods t

The powerful sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on Wednesday criticized South Korea's president and threatened a “complete destruction” of bilateral relation

Seems she is trying to create credentials in the hood, aka the NK leadership, as she will eventually have to be coronated when her unhealthy brother finally coaks.

What? North Korea is still issuing bellicose statements and threatening its neighbors?

I thought those three Summits between Kim and Trump fixed everything? Didn't the "Sable Genius" use his formidable negotiating skills to bend Kim to his will - and end these provocations?

I thought just like with the border, he used his four years to completely fix it...

Round and round we go!!!

Quote: “Experts say North Korea is building up its weapons (read ‘nuclear delivery’) systems to apply pressure on the United States in the hopes of winning relief from economic sanctions aimed at forcing the North to abandon its nuclear arsenal.”

By the way what’s with this superior look li’l sis carries?

Of the two siblings, Hanguk seems much the more aggressively hostile:

"Experts say South Korea’s military advancements are aimed at improving its capacity for preemptive strikes and destroying key North Korean facilities and bunkers."

Hmmm...Pearl Harbor sound familiar here?

And Bukhan's rhetoric as reported by Western sources seems more usually directed at its main antagonist, the U.S., whereas Hanguk's rhetoric, both more threatening and more loquacious, seems almost exclusively directed toward its sibling. And whether it's an artifact of 'Western' propandistic media reporting or not, one cannot escape the sense of watching a yo-yo go up and down and up and down, all smiles one month, and threatening apocalyptic mayhem the next, and then the smiles break out again until the frowns once again roll in...

Clearly, both sides would benefit from 'family' therapy and without their pathological and abusive 'Uncle' undermining the family dynamic as is so often the case. But we have the greedy child fully obedient to Uncle, and the fully disobedient, idealistic child being constantly abused by Uncle but still defiant and independent. What to do when the main problem seems to be the pathological and intrusive, but powerful, Uncle? I suppose everybody just goes on suffering...
