The majority of Brits have respect for the Institution of the Monarch and will support Charles in his role as king. The popularity rate was going down but the death of the queen will give it a big boost.

Seems, British people hope that Charles will abdicate sooner and alive to let his son succeed the throne. The reign doesn't have to be a lifetime as we know about the case of King Edward VIII.

I’ve only seen personally him three times, but if you believe in auras, it wasn’t good.

He isn’t as well regarded as his mother. More than a few were talking about how William as king would be better for the image of the family. He’s done a pretty good job getting closer to the plebs by appearing on footy podcasts and stuff like that.

To be honest, I don’t think it will be enough to threaten the continuation of this institution but it’s certainly lost its best player.

Lifelong service? Laudable. Hope so.

If the rule applicable to King Edward VIII (who abdicated within a year) applies to King Charles III, he may not last more than a year.

Of course, rule can always be changed..

What kind of service is to be expected?

Humble opinion, King Charles III speech to the nation is empathetic/compassionate to public/peoples genuine feelings loss of Queen Elizabeth II, seventy year reign.

Most off all the King displayed dignity.

It is perfectly reasonable to suggest whether King Charles III could replace Queen Elizabeth II, after such duty and service. However I believe King Charles III has shown he is more than capable and disserves the nation trust and support.

Bah people used to like the Queen mother more than the Queen. Public affection will grow for Charles I imagine.

Good luck to him he seems a decent, principled and hard-working man, extremely well prepared for the role.

Charles’ speech was very good, hit the rights notes. I don’t think this is the end of the monarchy, Charles has indicated previously he wants to change it and reduce the number of members, which will be popular. He will not abdicate, there is no tradition of abdication in the country (Nazi EdwardVIII and his dodgy missus were gratefully shown the door) and the royals loathe the idea.

I'm afraid people are clueless about history and don't realise how lucky we are to have a royal family of such conscientiousness and dutifulness, despite all the scandals. Things are WAY better than during most of our history. The monarchy almost collapsed after Prince Albert died, and it was only really thanks to the genius Disraeli that it survived.

What's really struck me as a British expat is the sincere condolences from non Brits to me personally for the Queen's death. Whilst it is almost cute I don't personally feel anything other than a huge page in history being turnedin my relatively short life thus far. Hopefully a new king can lift morale in the UK it's in a pretty dire place right now. All positive thoughts to all :)

I'd just come of age when the Queen's mother dies but everyone seemed to love her although I was already living abroad. My point was that with time people came to like the Queen at lot more. I'm guessing it will be the same with Charles.

Since the announcement of the queen's death, many tens of thousands of people have gone to Buckingham Palace, and all the other castles throughout the land to bring flowers and express condolences.

The popularity rate is decreasing but this will give it an enormous boost over the next year.

After more than seven decades of my life, I can understand a thing or two. I don't support the monarch but the majority of Brits do. I don't need to make a survey.

I don’t know how you know this. The polls are not perfect but are the best we have to go on regarding issues like this, and they show a majority in favour of keeping the monarchy - I don’t know if this perfectly equates to respect.

One thing that can skew your view is which part of the UK you are from. I’m from Liverpool where anti-monarchy feelings are quite high.
