the world can keep pleading all they want, even use a bullhorn, Trump can't hear them. He and his minions want a war but thankfully all the systems in place that are preventing it

I write this as the church bells ring. Bells will ring out 100 times Sunday evening as the sun sets in communities across Canada, echoing the church bells that tolled in celebration of the armistice 100 years ago.

Macron + Merkel = hypocrisy. Your selfish choices fueled nationalism in some European Countries, and you are the ones whho are creating the conditions for history repeating itself. Do you remember how the Weimar Republic suffered because of the unfair Treaty of Versailles, and the consequences of this? You guys are FORGETTING history.

I dislike Trump, but at least he isn't so hypocritical.

-19 ( +4 / -23 )

If Macron and Merkel think Italy will continue to be a vassal State of the French German axis, they are wrong. Being an American vassal State is already enough.

-15 ( +3 / -18 )

"Old demons are reawakening, ready to sow chaos and death," he said, warning of how ideology, religion and a disregard for facts could be exploited. "History sometimes threatens to repeat its tragic patterns, and undermine the legacy of peace we thought we had sealed with the blood of our ancestors."

Yeah, and it is obvious to me anyway, that you yourself do not realize that YOU are the demon that is causing so much of the hatred to be reborn!

10 ( +13 / -3 )

Yeah, and it is obvious to me anyway, that you yourself do not realize that YOU are the demon that is causing so much of the hatred to be reborn!

But in my opinion Macron realizes it perfectly, this is why I called him  hypocritical.

-15 ( +2 / -17 )

I believe some people need to understand how Macron, "the great defender of human rights", is acting

https://www.thelocal.fr/20181023/italy-accuses-france-of-trying-to-dump-underage-migrants-over-the-border

but I doubt they know many things, or they prefer ignore them.

-13 ( +3 / -16 )

Macron's France makes regularly strange "mistakes"

https://www.thelocal.fr/20181017/french-police-dumping-migrants-in-woods

Yeah, they call dumping people in Italian woods "mistakes".

-10 ( +3 / -13 )

@alex80 but I doubt they know many things, or they prefer ignore them.

Thank you for sharing your opinion and re-reminding that so much wisdom and knowledge came from western Europeans. What a great history you had.

It's especially good to be re-reminded of western European history and how European states related to each other when the 100th anniversary of the ENDING of WW1, the war that brought the WORLD WW2 and all the problems remaining from those two wars (e.g. Syria, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, etc.) is being acknowledged.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

@PTownsend: I don't know if you are ironic or what, but what I linked is THE ACTUAL SITUATION in Western Europe, and in particular the current relationship between Italy and France. So yeah, Macron can say many "nice empty words", but actions speak louder than words.

-9 ( +3 / -12 )

@PTownsend: at least, read the article in the second link, and try to understand what I mean better. How do you think THIS Europe can work? And remember, many of these migrants are from former French colonies, where also currently France has a huge political and economic influence.

-9 ( +3 / -12 )

It's fun because, in my opinion, the real far right one between Salvini and Macron, is Macron.

-10 ( +3 / -13 )

Macron made an interesting distinction. Loving your country means loving all things that make life beautiful and aspiring to do better. Nationalism is hate, jealousy, and vengeance. This was a very appropriate day for that observation.

Strange how so many still haven't learned this.

11 ( +13 / -2 )

Trump and Macron are the same thing, people's mistake is to see them like the opposite. Macron speaks only in the interests of France, and his migrants politics and politics in Libya, are atrocious.

-13 ( +1 / -14 )

Macron made an interesting distinction. Loving your country means loving all things that make life beautiful and aspiring to do better.

You forgot dumping the poor migrants in Italian woods and other obscene stuff, because he doesn't want them in his beautiful France.

-12 ( +2 / -14 )

Under gray skies and gently falling rain, many heads of state joined Macron in walking the last stretch of the Champs Elysees to the Arc de Triomphe, where the ceremony was held. Trump and Putin arrived slightly later in separate motorcades.

I see, the democratic leaders arrive first, the "nationalist" tin pot dictators arrive later...

"Patriotism is the exact opposite of nationalism: nationalism is a betrayal of patriotism," Macron said. "When we say 'our interests come first, those of others don't matter', we erase the very thing that a nation holds most precious, that which gives it life and makes it great: its moral values."

Absolutely true - a message the Trumpsters should hear and understand...

Addressing one veteran, he joked: "You look so comfortable up there under shelter as we're getting drenched. You're very smart people!"

Very profound Mr President...

As Trump prepared to leave France, Macron opened the inaugural Paris Peace Forum, which seeks to promote a multilateral approach to security and governance and ultimately avoid the errors that led to the outbreak of World War One.

And Trump, the one who needed to hear this most, packed his bags and left - Trump should just ignore and these overseas trips and send Pence - he acts like the 2 year old he is, and embarrasses himself and our nation. The Donald being the Donald, instead of the leader of the free world - a disgrace.

11 ( +14 / -3 )

Once again, he fails to step up to the plate and embarrasses himself, and our country. He sits there like a bored teenager whose parents made him show up when he'd rather be home eating fast food. His failure to go to the cemetery on Saturday was a slap in the face to the memory of the fallen soldiers and to the ideals that America once stood for. Another day, a new low for Trump.

12 ( +14 / -2 )

I can see how the hate for Trump - that I can understand - erase magically any criticism towards other leaders.

Again, you people can put all the thumbs down that you want to my comments, and believe in Macron's words about rainbows and unicorns. But ask yourself why the EU is falling apart. Maybe my comments are more realistic than his fake rethoric. He isn't better than Trump.

-10 ( +5 / -15 )

But ask yourself why the EU is falling apart

If it is falling apart, no doubt there are many reasons, including some Europeans want to revert to the days of nationalism - like the ones that led to WW1 and WW2. And some Europeans want closer ties with Russia and its cheap gas and oil. And Russians are 'meddling' in European politics, pushing nationalist sentiments.

4 ( +10 / -6 )

Rewinding the globalism is happening. People are realizing demerits of it. They built their civilized countries by their efforts taking long time. Free ride of the system should not be allowed which damage their life.

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

If it is falling apart, no doubt there are many reasons, including some Europeans want to revert to the days of nationalism

And do you know what is fueling nationalism? Again, did you read the articles I linked to you? I can't recognize my Country anymore! Italian cities are starting to look like the Bronx.

If you want, watch this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAUh7ClgkcQ

In this place live 500 "migrants", and there recently they killed a little girl. Italy can't handle this situation anymore.

-9 ( +5 / -14 )

Picture above...

Putin: I've just given Donnie his new instructions - continue your 2-year old like tantrums, make the US a laughing stock in the world, Make Russia Great Again - he-he...

Trump: When am I ever going to get out from under all the dirt this guy has on me...

Merkel: Can I change seats - Trump may grab my ____ and he reeks of Big Macs...

Mrs Macron: Can I change seats too - Putin's smirk is more than just a little creepy...

4 ( +9 / -5 )

And the guy behind Macron - "Squirrel!!"

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Nah. The EU is strengthening. It's a bit like Obamacare - everyone hates it until they are forced to consider the alternatives.

3 ( +9 / -6 )

@Schopenhauer: Western imperialism never stopped. All the recent wars, like Libya, Iraq and so on, caused a mess and the mass immigration. Some Countries, like mine, suffered particularly because of it, especially since the Libya war, wanted by France.

Relations between Rome and Paris have been increasingly tense in recent months, with Italy's populist government accusing France and others of failing to share the burden of the 700,000 migrants and asylum seekers that have crossed the Mediterranean to come to Italy since 2013.

Source: https://www.thelocal.fr/20181017/french-police-dumping-migrants-in-woods

I believe I already explained in an another news, that in Italy we don't have a nationalistic education, unlike what happens in some East Asian Countries. If Italian people become "nationalist" isn't because of the past, but because of the present. This Europe isn't an Union where everyone shares the same burdens and responsabilities. This is why it's a failure.

-7 ( +6 / -13 )

@Laguna: well, I hope this EU will be without Italy someday. After all, the EU don't need us. If we could vote like the British did, we will leave this Hell.

-7 ( +6 / -13 )

And Trump, the one who needed to hear this most, packed his bags and left -

Is that a crime?

Trump should just ignore and these overseas trips and send Pence - he acts like the 2 year old he is, and embarrasses himself and our nation. The Donald being the Donald, instead of the leader of the free world - a disgrace.

How so?

Once again, he fails to step up to the plate and embarrasses himself, and our country. He sits there like a bored teenager whose parents made him show up when he'd rather be home eating fast food.

At least he’s honest about his feelings towards European leaders.

His failure to go to the cemetery on Saturday was a slap in the face to the memory of the fallen soldiers and to the ideals that America once stood for. Another day, a new low for Trump.

We don’t know the reasons as to why he did what he did.

-12 ( +5 / -17 )

"It is out duty to preserve the civilization they defended,"

Trump (or Trump’s speechwriter) is sending out another dog whistle to his white nationalist supporters. Steve King and Richard Spencer must be applauding.

Think about the distorted view of history reflected in this comment. Nobody was defending any “civilization” in WWI. It was a pointless European turf war that rose out of 19th century nationalism, whose brutal nature was made evident by 20th century military technology.

And Trump’s quip about the “comfortable” vets was appalling.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

What was missing? Poetry by WWI combatants. If you read nothing else, read Wilfred Owen “Dulce et decorum est.”

6 ( +6 / -0 )

When President Trump attends a ceremony, gets soaked and has discourse with other world leaders then still the negative comments continue-pathetic!

Well, I personally look forward to the Dons second term in office which will surely happen.......

-9 ( +4 / -13 )

We don’t know the reasons as to why he did what he did.

This again? We do know. Either that or your government is lying to you.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Hey, did Trump actually show up to this one? Good for him, the rain must have stopped.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

His failure to go to the cemetery on Saturday was a slap in the face to the memory of the fallen soldiers and to the ideals that America once stood for. Another day, a new low for Trump.

We don’t know the reasons as to why he did what he did.

They said it was because of weather. It was raining.

You really are determined not to accept this. I understand it’s embarrassing as a Trump supporter, but speculating with no reason to do so isn’t convincing anybody.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

You really are determined not to accept this.

I’m really determined to keep an open mind, regardless what the msm are desperately are trying to force feed the public.

-11 ( +5 / -16 )

the war that brought the WORLD WW2

Wrong

It was the WW1 post war conditions that brought about WW2.

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

I’m really determined to keep an open mind, regardless what the msm are desperately are trying to force feed the public.

The statement from Trump’s people said it was because of bad weather. It was raining.

Are the MSM reporting something different or are they reporting what Trump’s people said? Are they speculating without foundation like you?

6 ( +8 / -2 )

It was the WW1 post war conditions that brought about WW2.

It was WW1 that brought about the post-war conditions.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Usual drivel from Macron.  Hypocrite.

-8 ( +5 / -13 )

Perhaps today, just for one news story, could we give the focus to those who deserve it- the poor bastards who fought and died in that misbegotten conflict? The last of them died several years ago so they can't speak for themselves anymore.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

Perhaps today, just for one news story, could we give the focus to those who deserve it- the poor bastards who fought and died in that misbegotten conflict? The last of them died several years ago so they can't speak for themselves anymore.

Hear hear

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Perhaps today, just for one news story, could we give the focus to those who deserve it- the poor bastards who fought and died

I agree. But at the same time, remember who it was that sent them (including my grandfather, a medical doctor sent by the US Army to France) there. Remember what happens when empires collide. Remember it was the putative 'royalty' and ruling classes of the empires of Great Britain, France, Germany, Austria, Hungary, (Italy), Russia and Turkey (Ottomans) and others that brought it about.

Remember it was a nationalistic group, Serbia's Black hand (with help from the Czar?), that lit a fuse.

Remember those were empires in which few 'commoners' had much say in how their nations were run.

Anyone who values democratic principles should look back at the problems created by empires and ultranationalism.

Anyone who disdains regional and even (bad word) 'global' cooperation should look back.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Usual drivel from Macron. Hypocrite.

Right, Wakarimasen! If it isn't hate that is being served up, it is drivel. My gosh, having high ideals of unity, humanity, compassion, wisdom....if this isn't garbage, then what the heck is? Priceless.

Remember those were empires in which few 'commoners' had much say in how their nations were run.

Anyone who values democratic principles should look back at the problems created by empires and ultranationalism.

WWI was a clash of empires, also most people do now know that Iran suffered 10 million (that's right) dead. The country declared itself NEUTRAL, but England attacked from the south, Russia from the east, and Turkey from the west. End result: 10 million dead. This war, like all, was a war for resources, control, and empire. Once the working people stand up and say to their oligarch masters, "No, we are not going to die for your stupid "ideals" and profit-making wars (for yourself), then this will stop. But I am afraid that once those indictments hit Trump's desk, we will soon be in another war, and it will be "STAND BEHIND YOUR LEADER!" A like the ducks people are, they will soon quack and line up. Sad. Maybe the next species that inhabits this planet will be smarter.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

You guys are FORGETTING history.I dislike Trump, but at least he isn't so hypocritical.

and how is that Merkel is attending a WW1 ceremony that her country lost, yet she understands the importance of atonement and forgiveness with no strings attached. Now imagine Abe or any Japanese prime minister attending an American ceremony marking and end to WW2 just ain't going to happen

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Let's take a moment to appreciate what is the value of engaging Trump supporters.

CrazyJoeToday  08:24 am JST:

His failure to go to the cemetery on Saturday was a slap in the face to the memory of the fallen soldiers and to the ideals that America once stood for. Another day, a new low for Trump.

bass4funkToday  09:35 am JST, in retort:

We don’t know the reasons as to why he did what he did.

Now, let's look at whether CrazyJoe or bass is grounded in reality:

*U.S. President Donald Trump is attracting criticism after he cancelled a trip to a cemetery for American war dead near Paris — *due to rainy weather.

https://globalnews.ca/news/4651220/trump-cemetery-visit-cancelled-rain/

On Saturday afternoon, the president was scheduled to attend a ceremony at the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery in France, where 2,289 U.S. soldiers are buried — a small part of the 116,000 Americans who gave the last full measure of devotion during World War I. It was the sort of solemn occasion that U.S. presidents have considered an integral part of their duty at least since the Gettysburg Address. But Trump couldn’t be bothered.

The White House explained that bad weather grounded the helicopters that Trump and his entourage were planning to take.

Read more here: https://www.kansascity.com/opinion/opn-columns-blogs/syndicated-columnists/article221486965.html#storylink=cpy

*Trump and first lady Melania Trump were scheduled to visit the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery and Memorial in northern France but had to cancel because of "scheduling and logistical difficulties *caused by the weather," the White House said in a statement.

https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/416058-churchills-grandson-rips-trump-for-skipping-cemetery-visit-because-of

Conservatives: Instead of spinning conspiracy theories in an attempt to deflect from Trump's repugnance when even the WH admits Trump cancelled because of "weather," just take in on the chin like you deserve. Please stop expecting the rest of us to participate in your self-deception.

Perhaps today, just for one news story, could we give the focus to those who deserve it- the poor bastards who fought and died in that misbegotten conflict? The last of them died several years ago so they can't speak for themselves anymore.

> Hear hear

Really?! Really!? Really? Trump can't be bothered to have someone hold an umbrella for him so does't attend the ceremony, which anyone with a registrable IQ would know cause this nonsense. Trump should have known this uproar would have happened, but he chose to put himself above our troops.

Please don't play the troops lives like that. It is repugnant and foul, they gave their lives so we could argue on internet message boards.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Trump didn't show any respect to American soldiers who lost their lives. Soldiers who had to put up with a helluva lot more than a rain shower.

A fine example he's setting.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

I can't recognize my Country anymore! Italian cities are starting to look like the Bronx.

Back when your country was the heart of the Roman Empire it was home to a hugely diverse population. And what's wrong with the Bronx, anyway?

If you want, watch this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAUh7ClgkcQ

No thanks.

In this place live 500 "migrants", and there recently they killed a little girl. Italy can't handle this situation anymore.

All 500 migrants were responsible for the death of the girl? That's irresponsible spin, at the very least.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

We don’t know the reasons as to why he did what he did.

Rain, apparently.

Or he hates dead American soldiers. We know how he feels about soldiers who get captured.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

The statement from Trump’s people said it was because of bad weather. It was raining.

Are the MSM reporting something different or are they reporting what Trump’s people said? Are they speculating without foundation like you?

For the most part, speculating.

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

The statement from Trump’s people said it was because of bad weather. It was raining.

Are the MSM reporting something different or are they reporting what Trump’s people said? Are they speculating without foundation like you?

For the most part, speculating.

First, Trump’s people tell us the reason for not attending was bad weather - it was raining.

You then attack the MSM for force feeding the public, presumably with what Trump’s people actually gave as the reason for his absence - rain.

You then claim the MSM are speculating because they are running with what Trump’s people said.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

@wtfjapan: yeah, Merkel really understands the past, this is why Germany contributed to Greece bankrupt. Merkel words: empty words.

@Toasted Heretic: if you don't want to watch, you can't understand. How must I explain that the problem isn't multiculturalism itself, but the fact that MASS immigration can't be handled by Italy anymore, while the German French axis and the rest of the EU are rejecting to share the burden of this problem? It's not immigration, it is a human traffick handled by some criminals. This is why Italy feels abandoned and disrespected.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

Macron, the President of a country that failed to defend itself twice in the last century, has no leg to stand on to lecture anyone on the meaning of nationalism nor patriotism; two traits the French have shown to neither understand nor possess.

This makes zero sense. According to that reasoning, Trump has no right to talk about patriotism and nationalism because the US got spanked in Vietnam. Macron wasn’t born when the two World Wars took place ( I’m assuming you mean these wars ), and Trump dodged the Vietnam draft with a bone spurs problem. Neither had anything to do with the conflicts.

I’m also not sure about your claim that France failed to defend itself in WW1.

All in all, your post is a total car crash.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

@Toasted Heretic: most of these Africans want to go to France, Germany or UK, where they have already some people of their family or friends. But these Countries closed their burders. So, explain me how those Countries are respecting human rights. Italy must accept a massive flooding of people who DON'T want to become Italians, they are forced to remain in our territory against their will. When they try to go to France, the French push them back to Italy. Oh, Macron, the defender of human rights! Italy tried to change the unfair Dublin Regulation, but the rest of the EU don't want it, because they don't want to share the burden of this mass immigration from Africa. If this is a "European UNION", I am Marylin Monroe.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

After 4 governments that weren't elected by Italians, but forced on US by the EU (how is this democratic?), and that accepted any order by the German French driven EU without saying anything, finally Italy has a government elected by its population, but the EU started immediately to threat it, saying crap like "the markets will punish Italy". I didn't know we must let the markets rule our Country. There are so many WRONG things in this EU that I can't even list them, so this is why I think Germany and France DIDN'T LEARN anything from history.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

And Trump, the one who needed to hear this most, packed his bags and left -

Is that a crime?

Absolutely, dereliction of duty...but really, that's the least of his worries...

Trump should just ignore and these overseas trips and send Pence - he acts like the 2 year old he is, and embarrasses himself and our nation. The Donald being the Donald, instead of the leader of the free world - a disgrace.

How so?

?????

Once again, he fails to step up to the plate and embarrasses himself, and our country. He sits there like a bored teenager whose parents made him show up when he'd rather be home eating fast food.

At least he’s honest about his feelings towards European leaders.

And he loves Putin...

His failure to go to the cemetery on Saturday was a slap in the face to the memory of the fallen soldiers and to the ideals that America once stood for. Another day, a new low for Trump.

We don’t know the reasons as to why he did what he did.

You don't know the reason, all the rest of us do...

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Alex80, Well said! Im in full agreement. I hope Italy can extricate itself from the EU and that Poland, Hungary and Italy continue to lead the way for the preservation of peace and those countries cultures and way of life.

Yubaru, agreed. Macron and that awful woman Merkel are the architects of the rise of nationalism in Europe. And that nationalism is an entirely logical and intelligent response to the EU and its sick agenda.

-5 ( +4 / -9 )

Yubaru, agreed. Macron and that awful woman Merkel are the architects of the rise of nationalism in Europe

They aren’t the architects but they have certainly fanned the flames with irresponsible immigration policies.

It is worth pointing out that Macron absolutely thrashed Le Pen and Merkel still polled higher than the AfD in Germany.

Responsible immigration policies, something the electorates of European countries do want, would cut off the oxygen to far right garbage.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

PTownsend,

if you want to play the causation game we can take it back to the sack of Rome.

Fizzbit us correct: it was the post WW1 conditions that brought about WW2.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

The EU is Merkels tool for a dominant Germany in europe calling the shots. Macron is mutti's compliant lapdog.

-5 ( +4 / -9 )

The damage Merkel has done is criminal. The future will reveal how destructive she has been for Europe.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

@theFritzX: in the earlier 2000s, I was the most pro EU person ever. I had this big dream. You are wrong if you think I am against multiculturalism. This isn't my true problem. My problem is how this stuff is handled. During the 90s, in Italy arrived thousands of people from Albania. At that time, there was a war in Albania. People from Albania dream was to live in Italy. When they arrived here, they already spoke Italian, because they had already learned our language, by watching Italian tv. I repeat, I am not against immigration by default. I am AGAINST this massive flooding of young men from Africa, that is only a human trafficking. These Africans rights are completely ignored by the EU, since these guys DON'T WANT to live in Italy. They are FORCED to live in Italy by the current Dublin regulation, just because Italy is closer to Africa than, for example, Germany. Do you think this kind of logic makes any sense? These Africans speak French and English, mainly, for colonial reasons. They are not even interested in learning Italian, they insult us because we are not able to speak proper English. Again, is the EU respecting their human rights by forcing them in our territory?

-7 ( +4 / -11 )

I like how I am getting tons of thumbs down, by the pro Bruxelles elite. But if you want to understand why Europe is falling apart, you should consider my words, without labeling me easily like "far right" or racist, that isn't absolutely the case. The elites of Bruxells are conveniently ignoring people voice. They can't hope to win, without listening to people voice. And, at this point, no matter what, I would really support an Italexit. Things couldn't be worse than they already are now for us Italians.

-7 ( +4 / -11 )

Fizzbit us correct: it was the post WW1 conditions that brought about WW2.

And what caused those conditions?

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

People should stop to compare the US current situation with the EU situation. I dislike Trump too, but this doesn't make Merkel and Macron good politicians for the EU. They are working only in the interests of their own Countries, not of the EU.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Chips Star, "And what caused those conditions?"

Try studying history. The causation of WW1 goes back to the sack of Rome in 546.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

The helicopters that were supposed to transport him to the site were grounded. Meaning they couldn’t take off. Meaning he couldn’t go.

But let’s just keep ignoring that and focus on “it was raining” cause it’s fun to be a mocker.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

Guess he was supposed to just hop in a taxi or hitch a ride. Or shut down every road between where he was and where he was going. Not like France is a safe, terrorism free place , you know?

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Try studying history. The causation of WW1 goes back to the sack of Rome in 546.

You are attempting to separate causation from causation. X caused WWI. WWI caused certain conditions after the war was concluded. Those conditions caused WWII.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

And that nationalism is an entirely logical and intelligent response to the EU and its sick agenda.

Said Hitler, once upon a time.

Always a few malcontents desperately seeking a platform to defend nationalism.

Wars were fought to keep the likes of them at bay but sadly, they haven't learnt any of history's tragic lessons.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Not like France is a safe, terrorism free place , you know?

Las Vegas, Pittsburgh, Thousand Oaks CA.

Yes, very safe place, the USA.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

The EU is Merkels tool for a dominant Germany in europe calling the shots

Besides this being absolute nonsense, even it were true, it would be highly preferable to the tool in the White House.

Who'd have thought, after the horrors of the world wars, that it would be the US flying the flag of fascism and stoking up hatreds?

1 ( +3 / -2 )

" world leaders to warn against nationalism a century on from the conflict."

Nothing wrong with being a nationalist, which means you're looking out for your own country's people first. The Germans went way beyond nationalism in WW1 & WW2.

I wish we had more world leaders warning against globalism, which has cost the U.S. dearly in job losses.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

The helicopters that were supposed to transport him to the site were grounded. Meaning they couldn’t take off. Meaning he couldn’t go.

But let’s just keep ignoring that and focus on “it was raining” cause it’s fun to be a mocker.

Yeah, focus on the rain that grounded the choppers. All-weather choppers definitely cannot fly. Just ask the Marine Corp.

Trump could have driven to the site, but didn't because he didn't want to cause a traffic jam!

Rain and traffic: Stopping presidents since 2018.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

I’m really determined to keep an open mind, regardless what the msm are desperately are trying to force feed the public.

The WH is the MSM? See my 1336 post.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Guess he was supposed to just hop in a taxi or hitch a ride. Or shut down every road between where he was and where he was going.

This is literally what happens when the president is driven anywhere. You guys are really grasping at straws trying to make Trump look reasonable here. Why not just admit to yourselves that Trump was unreasonable instead of lying to yourselves with flimsy excuses?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Actually the Marine Corps did decide it. The MSM offered a clarification which they immediately buried. So unless Trump was flying the helo himself.

https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/trump-visit-us-cemetery-france-canceled-due-rain-59110258

The Associated Press reported that the Secret Service determines when it's safe to fly Marine One, the president's helicopter. The story should have made clear that the Marine Corps and White House Military Office make the determination to ground the president's helicopter due to bad weather. Actually the Marine Corps did decide it. The MSM offered a clarification which they immediately buried. So unless Trump was flying the helo himself.

Nothing like contradicting yourself with the evidence you cite:

Trump could have taken the decision to fly, or could have driven. Keep flailing around, grasping at straws to convince yourself because you're not convincing those of us with a measurable IQ.

So the Marine Corps recommend NOT to fly and Trump says fly anyway you would whine that he never listens to the military. Imagine if they crashed and someone died after Trump went against the pilot recommendation.

military knows when it is safe or not to fly in the helo that they pilot. But whatever suits your narrative. There was another event and he attended so you can move on now.

Nope. It's painfully clear that Trump only listens to himself, so your words ring hollow.

Are you still seriously trying to claim that this helicopter could not fly through a bit of rain? Somehow everybody else managed to make it, including a representative of Trump.

He didn't go because he couldn't be bothered and he does not really care about the military. He is after all just a draft dodger. He says the right things when he is at rallies, but they are only a means to an end. As a top class sociopath, he would be unlikely to have any real feelings for the military as anything more than a means to an end.

@Chip Star: seriously, which is your problem with Garibaldi and Mazzini, the ones that finally made Italy United and Indipendent from European colonialism?

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

@Chip Star: I don't understand why you are against Italy indipendence, and you put Garibaldi, Camillo Benso, Mazzini in the same list as Hitler! Seriously? I can't understand why you made something like this! Respect Italy independence! Why should Italy remain a slave of the other European Powers? I am speachless.

Unlike the Koreans, Italy doesn't teach to hate its former colonial aggressors (France, Austria, Spain), but our Country suffered for centuries because of colonialism. And I see that this mindset is still alive: Italy can't be free! We should be still part of the Austrian, Spanish and French Empires, according to people like @Chip Star.

I wish we had more world leaders warning against globalism

And I wish people would stop with the globalism/globalist/New World Order stuff.

https://forward.com/scribe/412627/yes-ranting-against-globalism-is-anti-semitic/

“Globalist” is a term with an anti-Semitic history, and it’s often understood as code for “Jews,” so this language is activating and traumatizing for a lot of Jews. Especially in the wake of a bomb attack at the home of George Soros, a prominent Jewish philanthropist who is often slammed with the “globalist” label. Much of Soros’ recent’ work centers around promoting the idea of an “open society,” an idea borrowed from Karl Popper’s book The Open Society & Its Enemies

The connection between globalists and Jews is, in part, the old anti-Semitic smear that Jews are not truly loyal citizens of any nation. Hitler described Jews as “international elements” that “conduct their business everywhere,” thus harming and undermining good people who are “bound to their soil, to the Fatherland.” Use of globalist as a negative term can be a dog whistle for the far right: those who recognize its roots in Hitler’s philosophy recognize that it’s an encoded way of denigrating Jews.

It's especially ugly, given the topic of discussion. Just what the hell are we commemorating?

Again, it's not my list.

Ibid.

I am speachless.

Clearly not.

Your country also inflicted colonialism for centuries. Or, have you forgotten the Roman Empire?

And I see that this mindset is still alive: Italy can't be free! We should be still part of the Austrian, Spanish and French Empires, according to people like @Chip Star

No, not according to people like Chip Star.

I know that using Google is extremely difficult so I did it for you:

Wow, the Roman Empire? Are you even serious? Italy was born in 1861. And what the hell that list means?! Learn to interpret the things. Mazzini, Garibaldi and Benso nationalism was used to unite Italy and get Italy independence from the foreign aggressors, not to invade other Countries, so learn the difference between their nationalism and Hitler one.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

You used that list to put all of them in the same group of oppressors, that isn't the case of what your source did. Indeed, It speaks also about American war for independence like one of the first manifestations of nationalism.

Trump, who has described himself as a nationalist and has promoted what he calls an "America First" policy, sat a few feet away, stony-faced.

"Patriotism is the exact opposite of nationalism: nationalism is a betrayal of patriotism," Macron said. "When we say 'our interests come first, those of others don't matter', we erase the very thing that a nation holds most precious, that which gives it life and makes it great: its moral values."

It was Dumpyboy's attitude in the German, Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman Empires that led to WWI in the first place and his racist attitudes by Hitler + Mussolini + others is what led to WWII. Trumptraitor sits and pouts like a child, Putin holds him on a leash and smiles and Macron couldn't have said it better!

Can we trade Trump for Macron? Please?
