But they have... they are... from at least 25 year they are.
And then nobody did nothing, because it would be internatiional intervention in national matters... and that is that.
In one hand... it is true that it would be international intervention. May be multinational organizations could do something?... but don't know how effectively.
But don't say that venezuelans haven't "complained", they have... from within the country as well as from the countries they flee to (Panama, Colombia, Chile, Peru, etc.)
TaiwanIsNotChina
Of course he did. Skipped right over the winning "by hook" part.
wallace
The elections were not free and fair with many opposition parties unable to take part.
wallace
The Maduro election is just like the Putin one.

Blacklabel
Do you believe the 2024 Maduro wasn't rigged?
Fighto!
Moustaches : the fashion accessory of the dictator.
This guy is as crooked as they come.
wallace
There is nothing communist or socialist about Venezuela and Maduro with a starving population lacking schools and healthcare. All the basic points of socialism. Maduro is a dictator and its time for him to go.
wallace
Maduro prevented the opposition and independent observers from looking at the counting of ballots. The election wasn't transparent and validated by a third party.

What are you talking about???... are you perhaps under the impression that I support socialism or communism???
In that case. you sir have a wild wild imagination and you are also wrong about me. Prejudging without proper knowledge... well done
Daniel Neagari
@Wallace
I agree with you.. But... the fact is that Chavismo (the so called "Bolivarian movement") claimed to be "socialist" and a government "for the people".
In practice, like most other so called communist or socialist.. they are a dictatorial gang hunger for power and money
jackandjill
Venezuelans should be in full employment enjoying a good living with education and health a priority.
Bob Fosse
Your speciality.

Those Maduro sunglasses look like they could take part in the Olympic games opening ceremony drag queen circus.

@Chairman Rexton
oh... in that case... I am sorry.
I kind of in perpetual defensive mode when in this forum...
lincolnman
Stand by for Maduro to tell his supporters to "fight like hell"...that it was "all rigged"....and blame Taylor Swift, Hunter Biden, and the ghost of Hugo Chavez...
buchailldana
Not really surprising that Maduro would do this.
He has too much to lose.
But comments by black label astonish me.

Let's see 30 years ago Venezuela was one of the wealthiest, safest with a robust social welfare and infrastructure... now is one of the poorest countries, with a huge population living outside the country bacause their country (Venezuela) has no jobs, no food, no healthcare, riddeng with corruption and social insecurity.
That was done by Maduro's mentor Hugo Chavez and Maduro is just the continuation of that... 30 years with no free elections, no change in the cabinet, no change in the presidency. Every branch of the venezuelan government is controlled by the Chavismo...of course that is unfair!!!
The funny thing is that the US is getting something very near to that, the judiciary and legislature are quasi Republican... if Don the Con wins the excecutive will too ... and unafairness here it comes

..even though he was the only “Government Approved Candidate”

World Press Freedom Index don't lie and by that metric Venezuela is not a democracy.
John
Maduro lost and any sentient being can see the results as such.
RichardPearce
The sort of people who ignore what the US government has done to rob the Venezuelan economy of money, opportunity, and growth would also have insisted that the poverty of Native and African Americans had nothing to do with US government policies that robbed them or those same things.
There are many nasty and impolite words that describe such people. And the only good ones are ones they tell themselves they qualify for despite it being obvious to most of the world that they don't, any more than a certain American President qualifies for words he claims describe him, like 'stable genius', 'honest', 'faithful'...
RichardPearce
Well, as I guessed elsewhere, the chance of the American government accepting any election result in Venezuela but the one it wanted is ZERO.
No amount of safeguards, observers, precautions will ever be enough for both Republicans and Democrats to respect democracy when they don't like the results, which is why giving in to all the demands for more and more of those things in American elections is pointless.
TaiwanIsNotChina
There are plenty of standards by which the vote could have been accepted, but not the corrupt announcement of the result by NEC.
Fighto!
Crooked comrade Maduro looks like he is being supported by violent color gang members and drug dealers.
Cephus
Venezuelans have spoken! The rest is hot air.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Just ask yourself why these countries never propose term limits: they'd have to manufacture a vote disapproving of term limits.
Cephus
"There is nothing communist or socialist about Venezuela and Maduro with a starving population lacking schools and healthcare. All the basic points of socialism. Maduro is a dictator and its time for him to go."@Wallace
Then we should let the Venezuelans decide their fate and respect their wishes. Having said that, I know for sure socialism is a failed experiment.
Blacklabel
how would he know this on the same day as voting happened?
Cephus
We can't be more Venezuelans than Venezuelans. The hostility in the world is mostly due to people putting their noses on other people's business. And until the real Venezuelans complains the rest is hot air.
Cephus
"World Press Freedom Index don't lie and by that metric Venezuela is not a democracy."@TaiwanisChina
Well I hope the index indicators are not skewed by political expediency. Culturally speaking once mans meat is another man's poison. If the world press freedom was so effective then we could not be having problems with fake news.
Chairman Rexton
Cool your jets there, Daniel.
Actually, aside from the last line of your post, I was agreeing with you. I think you hit it on the head quite nicely. Despite what socialists claim, they tend to make everyone equally miserable except for the ruling clique, who just confiscate the wealth for themselves. Hence what happened in Venezuala. Same in Argentina, but they managed to elect someone with the gumption to turn things around.
Blacklabel
how so? What’s your proof it was rigged, other than you don’t like/didnt expect these results?
Blacklabel
Do you have access to the ballots to count them? Has a court seen the evidence and ruled the election was rigged?
JJE
He won it fair and square.
Accept it.
Eastmann
US response as expected.their "candidate" have lost...again.so elections were "unfair" and "rigged"...
pathetic....
Blacklabel
And just like that it’s perfectly fine to question results from a rigged election without having any proof that’s it’s rigged (yet).
Chairman Rexton
That's socialism for you.
B-b-b-but it isn't real socialism.
Of course it is. Fails every time and needs violence to enforce it.
TokyoLiving
Excellent, Venezuela won!!!...
Fascist in Latin America won't prevail!!..
