I am glad the world is uniting against this kind of agression but you have to wonder where the world had been when Georgia got invaded and Crimea got annexed. Georgie has been waiting for more than 10years for a NATO membership and has been completely forgotten.

The only reason why Europe care so much about Ukraine is because it supplied the world largest supplies of wheat, barley, corn, sunflower seed and cotton seed. And is right next to them so they now feel threaten.

The mentally ill dwarf lurking in the Kremlin, Poo tin has managed to achieve the very thing he was trying to prevent. Amazingly Europe and NATO have united in the face of his aggression in a way not seen for 30 years and even galvanised the Germans in to meeting their obligation to spend 2% GDP on defence.

The whole world is shocked and appalled by his actions and what he has unleashed on a peaceful neighbour. Russia is isolated in a way it has never been before, even the Chinese are wary of supporting Poo tin in the face of such universal world wide condemnation.

Russia reported its military casualties for the first time since the invasion began last week, saying nearly 500 of its troops had been killed and almost 1,600 wounded. Ukraine insisted Russia's losses were far higher but did not immediately disclose its own.

Sad for the families and friends of the soldiers sacrificed by Putin for his glory. And to think Russian people have him and his oligarchs in charge until 2036. What country will Putin invade next, and which countries will he have his cyberterrorists hack into.

And because Putin is spending so much of Russian people's money trying to destroy Ukraine, will he cut back the size of his online army spreading propaganda for him. That might be hard for the trolls because I doubt there are many jobs that pay as well in Russia if its economy is hurt by Putin's stupidity. And yes anti-westerners I am aware the US/UK/NATO should have little claim to moral superiority, but if you have any sense of morality, admit one of your idols is evil. Y'll still have the Ayatollah and Xi to take on the wicked west.

The attacks on Ukraine are unprovoked and unjustified. Putin is committing war crimes. He is killing innocent people and children. He must be stopped and be held accountable. This is a travesty!!

I thought Hitler was dead.

The mentally ill dwarf lurking in the Kremlin, Poo tin

Hahaha!!!! Brilliant!!!

It’s clear now Putin doesn’t care about the Geneva convention or any rules of war he is trying to level that country and destroy these cities and wipe all Ukrainian history off the map and rebuild and replace it with a sick grandeur of a Russian utopia. The is way beyond sick. The Ukrainians have proven themselves to be beyond brave and aggressive. Have to give it up to these brave and fearless people. They just will not give in, even though they know the odds are staked against them and time is running out.

Russia: Give us your country.

Ukraine: No.

Peace talks end.

Russia is starting to feel the sanctions:

Summary of : https://youtu.be/xp9fQjmuPAw from March 1, 2022. That's from FRANCE

 24 English news.

Russian interest rates at 20%. Double from last week.

Ruble plunged 18% compared to the USD in 1 day.

Russians are trying to get their money out of banks there, before they aren't allowed.

Russia's Central bank foreign assets are all frozen. Would be good if those were given to Ukraine to help pay for defense.

Another video, but from the BBC in country from 28/2/2022:

https://youtu.be/cG4pIrxSwlQ

There are videos of Ukrainians and Russians living in Ukraine confronting Russian military - on foot and they have their own "Tank Man" now.

In one video, a grandmother was handing seeds to Russian soldiers asking them to keep some in their pockets so when they die in Ukraine, a nice tree will grow.

Some Moscow residents haven't noticed any difference from the sanctions. "I haven't felt much different yet." Another man, "prices are rising, of course" And another woman, "Our economic situation will get a lot worse. It's inevitable in these circumstances, but isn't still not comparable with the losses of those who are dying in their homes through the fault of our forces. We're in touch with our Ukrainian friends and I have no words that could comfort them."

BTW, over 80% of Ukrainians speak Russian, in addition to Ukrainian. No language barrier happening.

The videos are just recording real people, in Russia and Ukraine talking about the invasion.

Russia hires a lot of private mercenaries to fight their wars. Their fatality numbers aren’t included in the official numbers. Nor are the Chechen ‘volunteers’

China not voting to condemn the invasion of Ukraine is expected. But a lot of nations will long remember gutless India's equal refusal to vote on condemning Russias attack.

Next time there is a foreign border incursion on India, some nations may just look away.

12 ( +17 / -5 )

Zulenskyy needs to watch his back. I’m beyond impressed with this guy. According to Putin he labeled the man as target number one and put him on a kill list and even though a bunch of Chechen assassins were killed the other day Putin will send more in assassins and won’t stop until this guy is dead. Knowing this, the guy is still staying regardless of this very serious threat. Nothing but respect and praise for this man who epitomizes pure bravery and courage.

China not voting to condemn the invasion of Ukraine is expected.

Well, China is generally considered an "allay" of Russia and by abstaining, it refuses to show support. Same with most of the abstentions, from countries considered friends of Moscow (yet unwilling to back it).

The only reason why Europe care so much about Ukraine is because it supplied the world largest supplies of wheat, barley, corn, sunflower seed and cotton seed.

Oh, gimme a break. In case you haven't noticed, the invasion of a sovereign democratic country is stirring up plenty of passion and emotion.

China is propping up Putin (Putin as distinct from Russia), China must be facing sanctions as well, not including China will result in further more intense sufferings of the Ukrainian population.

Remember Putin now realize lightly, lightly is not working for him, he has no choice but to intensify attacks.

China is diluting Putin's pain, and China is more complicit than Putin in this horror because China is under no pressure, like Putin is. China is inflicting pain on Ukrainian purely because it can, period.

Hit China with sanctions now, this is a necessary path to reversing Putin's course.

That’s exactly right and sadly the rest is not aggressive enough towards China and they all need to ratchet up sanctions on China in ways that will get their attention without worrying about reprisals because if we don’t we will be witnessing the slow extermination of the Ukrainian people.

Yes but I do wonder why we haven't seen evidence of this so far. Rand was predicting elite paratroopers halo-ing in to spearhead and penetrate defenses supported by superior Russian air power. But all we see are inexperience conscripts rolling in unsupported, runningbout of fuel, food, and morale....

Mysteriously so.....

If 'most of the world lined up against Moscow', according to this article at least? then will the pro-Putin, anti-west/USA/UK/NATO crowd claim 'it's the media/MSM' just spreading more lies to the brainwashed, or will they be able to provide a source saying Russian forces are just trying to liberate Ukrainian people, even though it seems to me the Ukrainians are trying to maintain the freedoms they've had since leaving the USSR. And do the anti west/USA?UK/NATO sorts agree with another of their heroes that Putin is smart for doing what's he's doing by taking a country for himself and his oligarchs, for only a few dollars in sanctions? And ignore the reality that innocents are being slaughtered and an environment destroyed.

@USReamer

Maybe it's time for a bit of whataboutery, like why isn't the world lining up against those "Masters of War", the hypocritical powers

Not there isn't, as there isn't a reasonable equivalency. In Afghanistan, the US coalition went to war against the Taliban and Al-Queda, repressive murderous regimes that turned their country into a humanitarian crisis long before the Americans arrived. Similar in Saddam's Iraq, and also Libya, Kosovo, etc.

Putin has chosen to fight the people of a stable sovereign state whose leader was democratically elected by 73% of the population.

Your attempt at drawing an equivalency indicates a profound lack of knowledge and/or perspective.

Russia ramped up its rhetoric, with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reminding the world about the country's vast nuclear arsenal. In an interview with Al-Jazeera, he said: “A third world war will be nuclear, and devastating," according to Russian news sites.

That statement chills me. Everyone should watch a 1980’s film titled “Threads” to see what Lavrov is alluding to. It is a no-holds barred look at nuclear war that makes “The Day After” look like a cartoon.

The U.N. General Assembly voted to demand that Russia stop its offensive and immediately withdraw all troops, with world powers and tiny island states alike condemning Moscow. The vote was 141 to 5, with 35 abstentions.

India, China, Vietnam, Iran, Iraq, South Africa, Pakistan and Bangladesh plus several African and Latin American countries abstained. Hardly the overwhelming support the article implies.

wipe all Ukrainian history off the map and rebuild and replace it with a sick grandeur of a Russian utopia. The is way beyond sick.

Its in every communist nation's rulebook. there is no history, culture, religion prior the established communist state, only the estate and its godly dictator. There is no communism without a dictator. Unbelievable some people, born and raised in the West even wish this upon themselves.

There are going to be tens of thousands and f death, millions of refugees . . . To what end?!

By the way, if the Russians are liberators and peace keepers, why on earth are all of the Ukrainian refugees running away from them in the opposite direction?

possibly, but whats the point of taking over a country thats in ruins, and your economy is in the toilet, going to be really difficult to rebuild.

we all know what economic isolation did to the USSR

China is propping up Putin (Putin as distinct from Russia), China must be facing sanctions as well, not including China will result in further more intense sufferings of the Ukrainian population.

US companies are import 670,000 barrels of oil per day from Russia and you want sanction China?

Shouldn’t the US sanction itself? Sanctions don’t work if the US and Europe continue to buy oil and gas from Russia.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

India, China, Vietnam, Iran, Iraq, South Africa, Pakistan and Bangladesh plus several African and Latin American countries abstained. Hardly the overwhelming support the article implies.

The article implies nothing, it gives us the numbers:

The vote was 141 to 5, with 35 abstentions.

If that isn't "overwhelming support" then I don't know what is. You trying to pretend otherwise is just pathetic.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Russia will win this war.

Militarily.

I would not bet money on it. After WWII it took a good ten years for Stalin's war hardened Red Army to take Ukraine back, and Ukraine didn't have any allies on its borders to support it. It was surrounded on all sides by enemies, either Warsaw Pact nations or the USSR itself. The Ukrainians were tough fighters and apparently still are but today they have NATO nations on some of their borders with open supply lines to them.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

It’s clear the world overwhelmingly does not support Moscow. The abstentions do not necessarily mean support for Moscow.

That said, a country’s vote at the UN matters little. Putin is not going to look at that and repent. What matters is action.

The fact is Europe, the US, and China continue to import oil and gas from Russia.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

The Ukrainians were tough fighters and apparently still are but today they have NATO nations on some of their borders with open supply lines to them.

But there is no air defense. The convoy is slowly moving north with escorting helicopters. Unless NATO provide air defense, they will keep coming in.

I can’t see Putin not keeping the south coast and the territories taken.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

The fact is Europe, the US, and China continue to import oil and gas from Russia.

China will undoubtedly continue to do so.

Its interesting though that in the past couple of days, governments in the US and Europe have started to openly start talking about halting Russian oil and gas imports. That seems a pretty big shift since (especially Europe) is so dependent on Russian gas that it'll inflict some pain on them too. Its an indication of how serious governments are getting about what Russia is doing.

Its also something that will have a much bigger long term impact on Russia even after the war (whenever it ends). Once Europe and North American have adjusted their energy infrastructure to not need Russian gas or oil anymore, that market will be closed forever. And Russia will just be limited to accepting whatever the Chinese will give them for it.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

"I would not bet money on it"

I would.

And I'm no Russia fanboy.

Russia simply has got far too much for Ukraine to contend with.

Militarily they will win.

Militarily.

Ukraine has been caught, (by CNN), trying to pass off their own destroyed armory as being Russian!

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

It just takes one short Russian to stop the world?!

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Putin may be nostalgic for the good old days of the Soviet Union when Russia controlled Warsaw pact nations as a superpower. His nostalgy may derive from his imperial mentality to restore Russia's erstwhile greatness and rebuild its superpower status once again. That is why Putin cannot condone Ukraine to part from Russia and join NATO.

Putin's action reminds me of a remark made by former U.S. Ambassador to Japan Edwin Reishauer, who said during a monthly Bungeishunju-sponsored conference with then Foreign Affairs Minister Masayoshi Ohira that, if Japan adopted omni-directional foreign policy, thus approaching China and distancing from the U.S.A. , the U.S. would take no time to again invade Japan and occupy it.

Sadly, they are all part of the same gang.

One aspect of this that seems to have escaped the mass media's attention is the growing perception in some countries that all this Europe-centric rallying and cry of support is to save white fair-haired blue-eyed people, and such has never happened before to save people of color in similar situations. Al-Jazeera has several articles in this vein. Part of the narrative includes alleged discrimination as black folk are getting stopped or second-tracked at the Ukrainian border entering Poland. This may partly account for negative votes from certain non-socialist countries in the UN.

An aspect that everyone really needs to be aware of, IMHO. Just passing along what is being read out there, so please do not shoot the messenger.

Plenty of reported (easily verifiable too) accounts of Indian and black students being forcefully ejected from buses and trains.

The vote was 141-5-35, meaning only 5 countries voted against the measure. On planet is that not overwhelming?

I get that you don't like the US, and you do like the Russian government, but this is an absurd claim to make.

It’s clear now Putin doesn’t care about the Geneva convention or any rules of war he is trying to level that country and destroy these cities and wipe all Ukrainian history off the map and rebuild and replace it with a sick grandeur of a Russian utopia

Nope, the objective here is to remove Zelinsky and reinstall Yanukovich, but the west will not allow that, the more this conflict extends the more it works in favor of the west.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Yep, 5 voted against and 35 abstained, that is not overwhelming..

Military equipment is pouring into Ukraine from NATO as aid. Stingers to bring down planes at low level, Anti tank weapons by the thousands to kill armoured vehicles, Small arms and munitions.

What is needed is body armor and most importantly they need night vision equipment. Enough so that every unit has some. Being able to see an enemy in pitch darkness allows you to eliminate him without ever having been seen yourself. Most Russian conscript units wont have any, many older military vehicles will not have any and only special services and top line commando units will be fully outfitted by the Russians. Even being able to direct fire for those without will give a great equalizing factor for the Ukraine fighters.

The right equipment needs to be given. not just missiles and bullets. Australia has dispatched a C-17 full of aid and arms to be distributed through NATO channels. I hope they sent some night vision equipment. It could be amongst the most useful to the defense of Ukraine.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Militarily they will win.

Militarily.

Possibly. In the short term. But in terms of holding it, and in terms of longer term economic and geopolitical losses, I think it's pretty clear they aren't going to win.

Ukraine has been caught, (by CNN), trying to pass off their own destroyed armory as being Russian!

It's war. Do you really expect everything that the two sides involved report to be 100% accurate?

Luckily, the west has a free media that will report on the war warts and all, and investigate claims made by both sides.

Unfortunately, that will be exploited by those who will try to use those reports to somehow justify what Russia is doing.

One aspect of this that seems to have escaped the mass media's attention is the growing perception in some countries that all this Europe-centric rallying and cry of support is to save white fair-haired blue-eyed people, and such has never happened before to save people of color in similar situations. An aspect that everyone really needs to be aware of, IMHO. Just passing along what is being read out there, so please do not shoot the messenger.

Again, this hasn't escaped the mass media's attention. It's been reported on in many places.

It's unfortunate and hopefully will stop, but it's hardly the big problem here.

It will be seized on by those who keep trying to deflect, justify or divide though.

In some case yes, the incoming russian forces for one are doing everything to ensure safe passage of the Indian medical students, they even halted the attack on Kharkiv allowing them to leave or cross over to the russian controlled side, and than there are disturbing reports of ukranians holding some of these students as human shields..
