They would all have to be taken out, without them realizing. The likelihood of being able to do that is pretty limited. The odds are huge that they would fire off all remaining missiles the moment they realized they were being attacked.

It's times like this that I really wish we had a stable, rational president. Not to mention a congressional majority that weren't just a bunch of sycophants.

Trump has also said he'd be "honored" to talk with leader Kim Jong Un under favorable conditions.

Whilst his choice of language is poor and gives Kim some kind of credibility; the chance of talks is not to be sniffed at. The problem is, over the years, there's been so many opportunities because when the ROK has been favourable to dialogue; the US has not. And vice versa. Let's hope this will change. It's quite a challenge with the alpha males at the helm, mind.

The only way this will end good is to inform the pollution of NK. Like way don't they start dropping masses of free sim cards and cheap internet phones. It could be cheaper then dropping bombs. Kim power is the people devotion to him. Changing this mind set should be the objective. Trying to change the Kim,s mindset has not seen any success since 1953. Allowing the masses to information freely is the answer. Not western propaganda. They willing to spend money on Bomb but question the valve of spending money on sim cards and phones. By doing so and if a war goes down you can text information which can add in saving lives and faster out come.

@cherrytime - which country are you from? I am trying to determine in which country the citizens cannot travel within their own country, are not allowed to listen to or hear ideas from outside their nation, etc.? Your post seems a bit far fetched.

@Smith - While I agree Trump's words were asinine at best I believe it would be a good idea to sit and talk (although we all know this will never happen). Those that have the most to lose are first, South Korea and then Japan.

The challenge with this scenario....do you wait until Kim actually fires a live weapon (albeit conventional, biological, or nuclear) at someone and kills 100s of thousands or more? Or do you take action to remove the threat? I am quite pacifist when it comes to war (although I am a veteran). For example going into Iraq was wrong (Saddam Hussein was actually an enemy of Bin Laden) however, in the case of North Korea I worry that the only way to prevent a tragedy may be to take preemptive action. People can debate how we got here until the cows come home but a day of reckoning may be upon us.

I still feel the answer is to get China involved to pressure North Korea.

I am all for peace, but a pacifist I am not. This isn't a game. There is too much at stake. But I feel for the North Korean people in general. The problem is the NK people simply do not know what is really going on and they can not because how their government just limits everything, especially the news.

And yet China is becoming more like them. Blocking the Wiki, but have their own version to be up and running with their own authors so they can control exactly what can be seen. They block proxies so you can not work around it.

And then you have America where most info is available, but those of a particular agenda or view will simply ignore the truth. Plus a president who spews so much contradictory statements it is hard to keep track of it all. One minute he is cursing the NK leader and sending an armarda, (although apparently he has no idea where it was really going...) the next he is praising/appreciating him and wanting to have a burger with him...

Well, Kin Jong Un looks right up for it to me. Right up for it.

I've often wondered about approaches like that. But keep it simple - bundles of dollar bills rather than phones. The biggest threat to a dictator is an empowered population. And there's not much more empowering than money.

If the Russians could see the splash from Vladisvostok, it must have been a warning to them not to put off the inauguration of NK's Man Gyong Bong 92 freight/passenger sea route again. These subtle hints remind me of the way a wife can direct her husband. Non-verbal works best?

Perhaps sitting down and negotiating is not what the DPRK are envisaging at all.

Not sure if serious, you obviously need ground infrastructure for those to work ...
