Leaving aside precedent because the recent steps ball all involved have been unprecedented, let's assume that Kim will continue to "disarm." If so, he is demonstrating that what the DPRK was saying all along was true: There weapons have been for deterrent purposes only.

We are this far because Trump pushed the war games back at the beginning of the year and cancelled the most recent ones. By the US "backing off" a bit, the DPRK doesnt feel it needs such a powerful deterrent. Thus, the DPRK's previous claims of the weapons being defensive only have been confirmed.

Of course, the previous analysis had been rendered incorrect by the findings of the intelligence agencies that say the DPRK is not taking steps to disarm. This means Kim is using Trump for the fool Donny is.

"No, no, no -- you don't understand. Let me explain it to you -- you see, it is OK for our country to have nuclear missile sites, but it is not OK for your country to have them. See? So simple."

Trump has been ineffective on North Korea.

You first, Kim.

The US military in SK has multiple purposes, not just to deter NK crazy actions. It helps bring stability to that part of the world, especially giving China pause before expanding farther.

If North and South Korea reunit into a SK-like political system, it would be worth it to the region for the US to vastly reduce presence in Korea. Anything less, wouldn't be.

IMHO.

How about when Clinton blundered and agreed to give N Korea two "proliferation-resistant" nuclear power reactors and a bunch of fuel oil?

Irrelevant. Clinton had international weapons inspectors in DPRK. The inspectors were there making sure North Korea didn't make nuclear weapons until Bush II accused the Kim regime of being in league with the Taliban and Iran, despite the fact that both North Korea and Iran had nothing to do with 9/11.

We were monitoring North Korea. We were ensuring they didn't make nuclear weapons. Until a careless GOP POTUS decided to run his mouth off without thinking.

How would you describe how Billy Boy, Bush and Obama were played?

Give me a situation where any of these presidents gave up concrete concessions for nothing, and we can start to compare them to Trump.

North Korea agreed on Wednesday to "permanently" abolish its key missile facilities in the presence of foreign experts, and said it is willing to close its main nuclear complex if the United States takes unspecified "reciprocal action".

"Reciprocal action" - that's the catch

North Korea ain't gonna do a thing without the US doing something it deems equal value

If all US bases in foreign countries are closed for good the peace in the world is warrantied. Nobody wishes war except war mongers and colonialists.

And Poland

Poland wants a permanent US base

(And y'mean "guaranteed", not "warrantied")

"So this would take us back to the state North Korea was in before Bush II blundered with his "Axis of Evil" propaganda and got inspectors kicked out."

If Kim honestly wants this, all he needs to do is tell Trump he has big hands and that he is loved, and Trump will do anything and everything Kim wants, regardless of how much the American public and his own government are against it, and how much it contradicts his promises.

Liberals blaming Trump again so I take it something good happened?

So this would take us back to the state North Korea was in before Bush II blundered with his "Axis of Evil" propaganda and got inspectors kicked out.

Trump is being played like a kazoo here. He already gave up military drills with the South and claimed he got us de-nuclearization. Now North Korea is offering the same de-nuclearization Trump supposedly already won for us, but we have to give up something equivalent. What exactly is Trump going to give up to bring us back to the pre-Bush II status quo?

The sad fact is Trump respects dictators and they know it. So he'll let them get away with murder (sometimes literally) so long as they give him a pat on the back and make up something about how big his hands are.

"Your move, trumpo"

Nah, actually the N Koreans have only two and a half more years to de-nuke, according to what Kim Jong Un himself said, if they want to avoid the fire and fury and frankly power that the world has never seen.

"The US gets rid of its nukes and NK does the same."

What about Russia, China, France, the U.K., India, Pakistan and most likely Israel?

N Korea to scrap missile sites if U.S. reciprocates

Good idea. The US gets rid of its nukes and NK does the same.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Your move, trumpo

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Don't trust the Great Satan, Kim.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

have US close its military bases overseas, scrap its nukes, stop its wars, cease selling arms to everyone, stop its foreign policy of aggression, make reparations to all nations it has destroyed globally, fix its insane criminal laws and prison system then DPRK and others will feel safe enough to reciprocate.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

"Reciprocal" action would be great if China, Russia, etc were willing to do the same. Sorry NK, but the US and other countries that share the nuclear umbrella have more than just you to worry about.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Give the guy a chance. Pretty good spirited of him to say this. Neither his dad or grandpa came anywhere close to saying what little kim has.

So let's give him a chance and wait and see.

Can't be easy with all those generals watching every move and conspiring to overthrow him.

Hehe, now we have Kim working for world peace. I wonder who buys it.

Who knows yet, he may have had a 30s crisis and now wants to be remembered as the guy who brought peace to Korea.

North Korea has agreed to"permanently" abolish its key missile facilities in the presence of foreign experts, and is willing to close its main nuclear complex if the United States takes reciprocal action, South Korea's President Moon Jae-in said on Wednesday.

Right....so the status quo lives on, Kim is literally crazy if he thinks the US is going to take reciprocal action

4 ( +4 / -0 )

I think a reciprocal agreement with the US removing nuclear "deterrents" (I'm assuming nuclear armed submarines) and removing the US military from South Korea is reasonable if the North is willing and actually denuclearizes.

But I don't think asking the US to remove nuclear deterrents from Japan should be on the books. It's also used to protect Japan as well as S. Korea.
