Why is everybody against one Korea?

A united peninsula under SK leadership is a swell idea. Why haven’t we thought of that before?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

NK and SK have been saber rattling and shooting potshots at each other for over 60 years. They don't need a motormouth foreign brat like Trump to get them to the table. This is a KOREAN affair, so let it be that. The GDR and West Germany reunited on their own. Reagan and Gorbachev buried the hatchet to resolve and end the Cold War peacefully. Neither one of those guys acted like chest-thumping monkeys. Does anybody remember that time? Trump doesn't know how to be diplomatic, he's obnoxious, immature and a Number One party-pooper. If NK and SK do resolve their differences and bury the hatchet it won't be because of Donnydouchebag Traitortrump.

Good! Now we can expect Kim Jung Un doin the Gangnam style with Trump and Moon making Abe so jealous!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Moon is soft in the head. Still, I'm sure the two Korean leaders will agree on one thing at their summit meeting: blaming Japan for past events (whilst ignoring the activities of the fat, murderous tyrant in the picture above).

4 ( +4 / -0 )

And while we are discussing which system wins in Korea, will there ever be any checks and balances on Kim's tower of twisted power? Since it is based on fear, and the north will be participating with one big chip on the table, it is unlikely that they can actually give anything other than generously tempting promises.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un met senior South Korean government officials for the first time and said it is his "firm will to vigorously advance" inter-Korean ties and pursue reunification,

"Vigorously advance" tells me Kim is going to step up the nuclear tests and missile launches and propaganda to intimidate and scare Moon into agreeing to peace talks leading to reunification......under DPRK regime.

A united Korea... ? With whom at the Helm ?

Kim and DPRK, of course. Accept reunification under DPRK and recognize DPRK as the official government of the Unified Korea. That's the price South Korea and the World will have to pay in return for........peace.

Kim Jong Un said North Korea is willing to give up its nuclear program if its security can be guaranteed.

After Kim reunifies Korea under DPRK do you honestly believe he will give up his nuclear program and missiles? Never happen.

With the entire Korean peninsula under DPRK, an even more stronger nuclear force will be required to guarantee its security. With DPRK Unified Korea aligned with China and Russia, Korea's security will be guaranteed.....with or without its nuclear and missile programs.

Maybe some here believes there's nothing wrong with a Unified Korea under DPRK, but remember the starvation, human rights abuse and genocide in North Korea will expand throughout the Korea peninsula against anyone who is against the DPRK regime.

KJU's nuclear blackmail tactic has won this round of showdown again! See his sister'The power girl of NK'? She is proud of her brother very much!

The biggest loser is ? Japan. What a joke Abe's policy is. Maximal shameless.

North Korea will believe its security can be guaranteed only when it devours the world.

Looks like Kim Jong Un is giving them a good head start...  (:

If Kim can refrain from opening his mouth threatening the US, he doesn’t have to worry about Trump saying something back.

As long as Kim's name isn't Putin, Trump will probably say something back.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Huh?

You know, when people put aside the sabre rattling and schoolyard chants and actually try dialogue?

Who wants a war?

Plenty of online observers call for the destruction of the DPRK on a daily basis. Have you not read the comments? Not only here but across the internet.

I don’t know anyone that wants a war except NK would love nothing than to vaporize the US, but that’s about it.

If that's true, don't forget Putin also wants to nuke Florida but there's not any reaction to that.

Not to mention some who want coastal cities to be nuked as well.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Talking is always a good thing. Let's hope Trump doesn't screw this up with a tweet.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Impressed by these acts of diplomacy.

Huh?

Maybe we (the little people) can look forward to a future without the war that some so desperately want.

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

you have no evidence going forward that he won't, but you are entitled to have an opinion.

Yes, and going by the last 25 years as any indicator, I don’t think he will based on that historical FACT. So yes, I seriously doubt it and the South is falling for the ploy, this Moon is a piece of work.

If the security of the North Korea is assured maybe that's more important to Kim Jong Un. He knows he'll never be able to use them so in the end they become bargaining chips.

Yeah, I believe a man that had his own uncle executed, had his ex girlfriend shot and ordered the death of his own brother. I’m usually a very optimistic person, but when it comes to this guy and his family, NOPE.

Peace please.

U.S. position has been that dialogue must be aimed at North Korea's denuclearisation, something Pyongyang has rejected.

Breaking: CNN is reporting that Jun is willing to give up his nukes and halt missile, etc testing during talks.

WOW! Looks like Trump knows what he's doing over North Korea.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

Kim Jong Un also stated a willingness to have talks with the American president. Very soon the two leaders of Korea will meet on the border and we'll see what becomes of that. If nothing changes then nothing has been lost but even a step forward is better than no step or even a step backwards.

I’m not saying they shouldn’t talk, of course they should, but if anyone thinks that Kim is going to give up his nukes regardless of what deal is made is totally absurd.

Kim Jong Un said North Korea is willing to give up its nuclear program if its security can be guaranteed.

ROFL!!!!!

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

South Korea's presidential national security director said Tuesday that North Korea said it's ready to have "heart-to-heart" talks with the United States on issues regarding the North's potential denuclearization and the normalization of relations between Pyongyang and Washington.

Yeah:

Wait until the SK wake up feeling the embarrassment that they fell for this. Astounding

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Why is everybody against one Korea?

There may be ties but how can you expect one Korea while Kim Jong Un is still alive?

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Berlin did happen and nobody expected

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Says someone that wouldn't be wiped out in any scenario involving military action.

You never know. Wait until the SK wake up feeling the embarrassment that they fell for this. Astounding!

Just another ploy by NK to stall for more time. Missiles and nukes need just a little more time. Anyone who thinks this is a chance for peace are only fooling themselves.

President Moon is THE most naive person I’ve ever seen running that country, it’s almost too painful to watch.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

However small a step this is to establishing rational ties between South and North Korea, a significant agreement (not "agreement") has been reached. This the case, we are step further away from war and that is to the good. We in Japan can breath a little more easily.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Why is everybody against one Korea?

There are more dead in Kongo recently than in the dated Korean 1950-53 old school nono

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Kim's badge must have popped off.... awww... no, he looks genuinely overawed.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

SK is falling for it, hook, line and sinker. Gullible.

Says someone that wouldn't be wiped out in any scenario involving military action.

0 ( +6 / -6 )

So preliminary talks about holding a future summit for more talks were mildly successful but still require further talks? Great! Well done SK!

Meanwhile, NK's nuclear reactors are humming and their missile programs are at full tilt

SK is falling for it, hook, line and sinker. Gullible.

Sabre rattling as a means for survival? is the young guy over there getting tired of being looked at as the Stalin of the 21.? Who is afraid of a united country?

Olympics counts in East Asia. Always struggle, never gold.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Another incredible diplomatic win for North and South Korea! They have shown the world that they are both the moral leaders in this region and pose no threat to the world, unless these current sanctions continue of course..

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

If it was your job, Matt, and you had to do it to keep the dialogue going, I hope you would shake hands with Kim Jong-un, or with any other nut job it would make sense to do it with.

You can always wash up afterwards.

True.

If I was a South Korean delegate looking to do what I thought was right I would shake his hand, but Im afraid liquid or standard soap would not suffice. Id want to go into one those decontamination shower thingies you see in the movies when the U.S CDC are at work ;) And scrub my hands relentlessly with some of the white powder stuff my old man use to have to get grease and oil and gawd knows what else off his hands.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Stupid is as stupid does........

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Peace in our time springs to mind!

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Better than ‘big bone-spurred’.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

It looks like Un's put on a substantial amount of weight.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

'Ffs am not fat am just big boned'!

That's what KJU would say if he were asked about his 'size'. Then he would have the bloke killed.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

He keeps his support staff handily close by. Inside his jacket, in fact.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Good for them, but sheesh, Kim Jong has really packed on the pounds lately.

Probably cannibalism. lol im not joking. Given what he has personally overseen done to his political enemies would you be surprised at this point?

I can't imagine shaking the hands of that whack job.

2 ( +8 / -6 )

Kim has put on some weight. He needs to reunify with the gym.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Glad to see them talking. But....... Un has been eating everyone's share of food it seems. He's the only obese North Korean I've seen lately.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

What has been Kim been consuming that his people so desperately would like to share?

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Good for them, but sheesh, Kim Jong has really packed on the pounds lately.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

south a few 50-year cast-iron guarantees on press independence, free elections, democracy, non-interference in education, etc.

Big difference in who holds the cards. In China, the Chinese government with its wealth and population hold the cards over a tiny fraction of it. The far wealthier and larger population of South Korea clearly holds the advantage in any reunification.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

I suspect that the Chinese have had a quiet word in Kim Jong Un’s ear to follow their experience with the reabsorption of Hong Kong, ie give the south a few 50-year cast-iron guarantees on press independence, free elections, democracy, non-interference in education, etc.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

I would say, its never wrong to bring the two sides together to at least talk with each other, come to some agreements that makes the lives of people in North Korea a little easier without giving up your principles, make concessions when it doesn't hurt, let reason play a role, give up insulting language, make yourself more independent from what the US says, that's the way the German social democrats under Willy Brandt handled the relationship with the former GDR and with time a historical window opened up and reunification came with a surprise and speed nobody had expected.

2 ( +9 / -7 )

So preliminary talks about holding a future summit for more talks were mildly successful but still require further talks? Great! Well done SK!
