At least American rocket parts come down predictably. The Chinese just dumped a huge rocket part and have no clue as to where it might come down.

They are building their own space station now and put up the first piece yesterday. American technology at its best.

so Elon Musk is blacklisted?

0 ( +4 / -4 )

And 3 others?

Welcome home Boys and girl, glad you made it back safe, and thank you for adding knowledge and experience to the program.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Are you asking because he isn’t quoted in the article?

No Elon Musk = no SpaceX

what do you think?

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Well done!

This is the AP headline as published and used by every other publication from writer Marcia Dunn:

SpaceX returns 4 astronauts to Earth; rare night splashdown” -

This was a “team” effort by “people working together”. No ‘one person’ needs to be singled out for praise.

"It's amazing what can be accomplished when people come together." -

US media: SpaceX safely returned four astronauts from the International Space Station

Japanese media: Noguchi, 3 other astronauts returned from the International Space Station

American technology and ingenuity at its finest.

What's with the nationalism? Is it not better to see it as human ingenuity? (And it would save us the bother of checking out the nationality and origins of the contributing scientists and technology.)

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Simplistic comment. Space X, like most companies, is much larger than its founder

you're sharp

so spacex would have happened without Elon. Got it

Perhaps it’s intended to create some kind of “controversy” for people to comment?

and how about his plan for global internet access? Yep, the profit driven corps would have thought of that. Haha

Elon isn’t entirely clear about what his “politics” are. His companies are not overtly and loudly “woke”. In this environment, that’s enough for liberals to criticize him and try to diminish his personal accomplishments.

elon musk is doing wonderful things for this world, to include leading Space-X. But Liberals won’t even let him host a comedy TV show without being triggered.

Kudos, to Astronaut, Soichi Noguchi.

All due respect, I would question Elon Musk's company to change my light bulb.

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

And, all due respect, @itsonlyrocknroll 6:42pm, more qualified individuals than us chose to trust their teammates and the company, flew and retuned safely.

- “All due respect, I would question Elon Musk's company to change my light bulb.” -

Kudos, not just to one, but ALL: Space X Dragon flight crew, technicians and mission control!

- “It's amazing what can be accomplished when people come together." -

Were they all asked to hold up their right Index finger ?

Just my opinion, biased on my distrust of Elon Musk personally.

Elon Musk's SpaceX may have been one explosion away from going bust

https://www.newscientist.com/article/mg24933260-300-elon-musks-spacex-may-have-been-one-explosion-away-from-going-bust/

Sooner or later Elon Musk flawed commercial SpaceX ambitions are going to cost lives.

Oh for sure, like the space disasters of 1967, 1987 andn2003

Ok, excuse my disingenuous flippancy, over light bulbs.

As far back as 2015 Musk was, allegedly cutting corners....

Why Tesla employees fear Elon Musk, as told by one of the company's cofounders

https://www.businessinsider.com/working-with-elon-musk-tesla-2015-5

Ego, ambition, the need for recognition at any cost is an incendiary mix.

Combined, could have extreme consequences for all that come into contact or are persuaded to climb on board the Musk fairground ride that is SpaceX.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Your concerns are understood @itsonlyrocknroll 8:07pm. Some of these are the same fatal mistakes of the Challenger and the Columbia. The former was pushed to launch ‘for PR reasons’ despite cautions to delay. The latter was destroyed when a complete inspection and repair of possible damage was not conducted prior to reentry.

- “allegedly cutting corners,... Ego, ambition, recognition at any cost is an incendiary mix.” -

Agreed. Yet, no one here will give up our ‘tech’ or ANY of the innovations that have resulted from these extremely risky endeavors.

So, what’s the solution to continue our progress? No privatization, no commercialization and “governments only” in space?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

I am biased, snowymountainhell.

I believe that Elon Musk ambition take precedence over his willingness to accept there could be a human cost.

My doubts stem, from an Guardian article.

Elon Musk on trial: CEO accused of defamation over 'pedo guy' remarks.

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2019/dec/03/elon-musk-defamation-trial-begins-in-case-brought-by-british-diver

One has to question Elon Musk motivations underlining Space X.

China is building a space station and dumping their crap wherever.

So much for the Star Trek dreams of inclusion .

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Man, that is so cool. World coming together to further humankind.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

I think it is essential that private investment must be a joint venture, allowing space exploration to flourish and develop.

It is when celebrity, billionaire entrepreneurs, with an insatiable need to achieve personal ambition that could have a affect on these astronauts, agreed not just Soichi Noguchi, well being that has to challenged.

Elon Musk must be subject to oversight.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Agreed, the guy is not a saint. Respectfully, @itsonltrocknroll read the articles you presented: the 8:07p Business Insider piece (2015) and the 7:27p Newscientist.com (2021), in that order.

NOT a “for or against” opinion but here’s some basic takeaway from what you provided: At Tesla, he was driven, impatient, feared and/or respected by some. Space X experienced a number of prior failures and the Falcon’s final success was possibly, a final ‘make-or-break’ project from their speedy ‘trial & error’ methodology of  “go fast, break things and fix them”. Agreed, can’t follow that methodology with manned space flight.

As far as your 8:38p article referenced, that’s along the lines of the typical billionaire, periodic ‘foot in mouth’ and then, the legal “backpedaling and C.Y.A.” Agreed.

Much is not respectable but then again, if we judged our current tech and innovations on the visionary’s ‘personality’ or lack thereof, we wouldn’t have Mac’s, IPhones, IPads, etc. No just Jobs but many are wary of Gates as well.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

I don't think people understand the reason SpaceX does well is because of SpaceX president and COO Gwynne Shotwell. Musk is the idea guy. He's all about his Mars spaceship down in Texas. The reason they get NASA contracts is because Shotwell is an excellent engineer and executive.

I'm suprised no one has mentioned Akihiko Hoshide is not the commander of the ISS. Only the second time JAXA has had a commander of ISS.

Exciting times for the space program!

NASA's rocket program started with importing SS-Untersturmfuehrer von Braun in 1945 and his 1,600 colleagues...

Elon Musk is from South Africa. Undeniably, he is a very interesting person.

Apparently, the Agency is committed for diversity. Future plans:

"First Woman On Moon: In a major step for diversity, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), has announced it will send 9 women along with many people of colour to the Moon in its ‘Artemis’ mission."
