I really don't get this. It's very common for cops, guards and other authorities around the world to use horses to control crowds and also batons when people don't heed their orders. And that it's not an issue.
The agents used the animals to chase people who were entering the country illegally. That's, um, their job. Trying that on foot or in a motor vehicle in that river would have been a really dangerous to all involved and an embarrassing and futile fiasco.

And here I thought it was trumps wall that did it.

That I can agree with. Mistreatment of the migrants is unacceptable, whatever be the circumstances.
However interesting to see that you don’t need billion dollar walls to handle the border situation.

The USA has millions of its own citizens camping under bridges and freeway overpasses in every city and town.
And nothing can be done about it. Where are these immigrants going to live?
Yrral
It is a felony to camp under a bridge in Texas, that was the last option for some homeless Texan has, thank to Republican that made it a crime

All been shipped to Florida and army bases elsewhere in the States. Such a mess.

What about all of the people who followed all of the immigration rules, did all of the paperwork, had background investigations, had interviews at embassies, waited years in some cases, paid thousands and thousands of dollars to legally immigrate to the US?
Can they get a refund? Were they stupid? Should they just have crossed through Mexico?

Rounding up the migrants or securing the American border. Which is it?

Everybody was so upset about the way the US border patrol used their horses and whipped those Haitian refugees, but it didn’t look like they whipped them at all. Did the media exaggerate this? Also, if tens of thousands of Haitian economic refugees are allowed in, which unskilled US workers are going to be threatened?
JeffLee
"Exaggerate"? No, they just lied. The agents aren't carrying whips, based on the video. Indeed, they didn't brandish any weapons. They twirled their reigns in the air when the migrants refused to do what they said.

The stories about the Border Patrol 'whipping' illegal immigrants are all utterly false and disgusting. Certain elements on the left are trying to portray it as akin to slavery- bad White Men on horses whipping and abusing helpless Blacks. A sad and craven attempt to distract people from the actual issue at hand- what to do about the crisis at the southern border.
Most of the Haitians were not, actually, coming from Haiti due to the recent earthquake. Most were already living and working in central and south America, and had been doing so for years. They simply saw an opportunity to better themselves by taking advantage of the Biden administration's weakness and dithering on issues of immigration.
A clear accounting needs to be made. First, where exactly did they all go- how many were deported, how many are still in custody in different centers, and how many released into the general population. Also, how many were tested for Covid, how many were vaccinated, etc. Tourists arriving at airports are not allowed into the US without testing and/or vaccination, so why are these so-called asylum seekers given special treatment?
This is a fiasco for Biden. He and Harris are both trying to duck the issue with feckless distractions and meaningless platitudes.

You seriously believe this photo-op? They made the inconvenient pictures disappear. The mass voter drive in form of illegal immigration continues at full speed.

Yes, they did. Border patrol agents don’t go around carrying whips and horses are used all the time for crowd control. Go to Mardi Gras in New Orleans and watch how they control the crowds, seen it done in LA and NYC this is nothing new. Now the border situation is totally different, you had Haitians that were trying to cross into a sovereign nation, you just can’t do that, you can’t trample them either, do you want to shoot them? So your options are limited, you can use the horse is kind of like a block or barrier and you can use your rains to try to keep the people to go back, but that’s limited and now they probably could lose their jobs because they were doing their job?
They have to be punished for something that they didn’t create, and this is just so aggravating, insulting and demoralizing to the people that work at the border and all enforcement. shame on the DHS and shame on this WH.
Yes, And that will increase the poverty rate in the US among Americans as well, no doubt about it.

no one was whipped.
Or strapped, the word Biden was told to use instead once to further than narrative once it was clear no one was whipped.
Kamala Harris demanding an investigation. Without realizing she is in charge of this and that these employees are employed under the Executive branch.

People mention a wall.
Yes, a wall would have prevented these people from entering the country. Then they wouldnt have become our taxpayer responsibility for their care, the cost of extra security and then their detention and/or flights home.
Bob Fosse
If such a wall existed that wasn’t scaleable by ladders, didn’t fall down by itself, didn’t cost billions of tax payer dollars and covered more than a stretch of a few miles.
Yes, such a wall would be very impressive. But it’s absolutely impossible, I can’t believe so many people fell for the idea.

99.9999% of Haitians are economic migrants and will be refused asylum.
Read a story about a Haitian who moved to 11 different countries looking for "a better life." It wasn't until he got to Mexico that there was any fear in his travels. He lived in Chile for 3 yrs - long enough to get married and have a child. Now he's on his way back to Haiti.
