Nice to read Australians did not elect a leader born privileged, hopefully Prime Minister Albanese will not forget his roots, and will pay little heed to USAmerican meddlers like Koch and Murdoch.

What a great and heart warming speech. Don't know much about Aussie politics, but this guy seems like a breath of fresh air. Let's hope he can achieve as much of his election promises as possible.

He liked working for consensus and compromise and never resorted to dirty tactics {anti immigration, anti Muslim etc } that the Liberal Party did .

I reckon Albo will be a PM in that style.

He is Pro Australia, and like all aussie's he is against the belligerent China that is run by Jinping.

Australia is a responsible trading nation and when China drops it's attitude and hostility then it can expect Australia to respond in a positive manner. Our leaders on both sides agree China is a threat to the region. Not much will change in regards to dealing with China. Perhaps when China gets a new leader something will be possible.

Miracles haven't happened there, but they have a broken system. The party that wins the election isn't allowed to do anything, because the opposition and 1 or 2 treacherous attention seekers (Manchin & ...forget her name now) block nearly all new legislation, just to cause trouble. A break from the Trump years of daily outrages and chaos is better than nothing.

The rot with China started when Morrison and his cohort started pointing the finger at China. It was probably warranted but could have been handled way better diplomatically. The world needs diplomacy and tact to function, something the smug Morrison has no clue about. Hopefully the new Govt can mend some bridges.

Looking forward to the new government exercising good economic policy so as to bring their inflation down.

The world needs some good examples of that these days. The way things have been going I fear inflation will remain elevated in many places.

Regardless of whether you agree or disagree with BigYen’s politics, he clearly knows what he’s talking about when talking about Australian politics. This is blindingly obvious. I’ve read his input before - it’s pretty well-balanced and informed.

You on the other hand are trawling for quotes which suit your narrative - Christianity, climate change, vaccinations. This is blindingly obvious and a bit tedious.

I just don’t see how projecting your narrative onto a country and political climate you seem to have a very limited, one-dimensional knowledge of is very useful.

The reason why they lost in WA, is because they supported Clive Palmer against the border closure. They lost seats to the Teal is because their attitude towards women and inaction towards climate change, despite the constant bushfire or flood the country suffered these past three years. Scomo thought he can pretend to be a mini-Trump but forgot that Australia is always solidly centre due to the compulsory voting.

So, Penny Wong will be foreign minister which hopefully, will end her sulkiness that has been her hallmark since the last election. Will be interesting to see what she brings to the international stage.

The Libs have been going further to far right fundie position, anti science and anti humanitarian. Another full term and they would have been full Trump. This is also demonstrated by the number of independents who won seats based on policy of science and humanities.

Wasn't President Clinton's mother recently widowed when he was born? He grew up for a time with grandparents, then with his mom who remarried, but the step father was a drunken gambler who abused his mother and half brother? Jimmy Carter wasn't wealthy either, nor was Harry Truman. Somehow he managed to be elected as a county judge without a law degree or even a bachelors degree.

Pink batts were the last effort at something genuine on climate change. Turned out great...

Draconian lockdowns, coerced vaccinations even for pregnant mothers, cancer sufferers and those with known heart issues, muzzling of free speech, violent and aggressive arrest of protesters including pregnant moms and grandmothers, letters sent to every medical professional in the country threatening deregistration for non compliance wirh or voicing concerns re the Covid response, etc, etc. These left wing, bordering communistic actions by a supposedly Conservative leaning Morrison government angered it's base so bad large swaths of the base abandoned them. If I was Aussie I would have done the same.

My point was that the Liberal Party lost the support of much of its conservative base because of a variety of factors aligned with moving to the left and embracing progressive policy. I gave facts to back up my claim by quoting powerful actual Conservatives inside and outside the party. So were they lying about thier own opinions?

What this article and many others failed to mention was that a very major factor in Morrison's loss was that his party swung left and betrayed the conservative base that delivered them the miracle of 2019. So those voters abandoned them in droves.

Several left leaning members of Morrison's party targeted to be felibreately ignored by the base lost thier seats.

Sadly the same cannot be said of the fellow who basically ran Bob Hawke out of office. I'm not Australian but was living there at the time. You can correct me if I am wrong as I left Australia shortly after Keating became PM but the way he went about it looked bad, like he was climbing over Hawke's back to be number one. Just an outright power grab. I'll give Keating credit for Superannuation. The US should have a similar program, but I don't know what is is but I never had a feeling that Keating could be trusted.

Scott Morrison and his fake 'consevative' party, the now aptly named Liberal Party imploded by robbing Aussie citizens of medical choice and personal freedom, pandering to left wing ideologs and climate alarmists, and abandoning its conservative base which gets it elected nearly every election.

It is telling that 4 of the worst progressive offenders in the party, Zimmerman, Sharma, Martin and Allen all lost their seats. They were named and shamed by conservatives before the election and targeted for boycott. It worked. Short term pain for long term gain was the motto of conservatives who abandoned the Liberal Party. If the Liberals don't get the message and return to their true conservative roots, they are finished.
