the world is not going to pick up a gun and save Ukraine from invasion. The world is just worried that they are next.

Jero, 10 of thousands of dead Russian, doing nothing seem to working

Shouldn't there be a global zero tolerance policy of waving Nazi flags like for example Canada has.

That's decided country by country. My country (the US) does not allow our Congress to make such a law.

What is it with dictators and rallies?

I'm trying to remember...who's the other person who holds rallies continuously?

Actually the more the world isolate the nation, the more united the people will be. This has show time and time again over the history. It will only make them determined. You can’t just destroy their rubble, wipe out their savings and then expect them to the grateful to the west. Some of the russian i speak with said that they in the end still stand with their nation no matter what. They might hate war but they hate it more when you try to meddle into their affairs. Many of them are very patriotic. Just like Iran, you won’t able to break their spirit with just sanction. In the end what people want is to have the means to provide food and water for their family. A job. Foreign companies pulling out will only make them rely more on the regime to survive.

Putin's quoting of the Bible and an 18th-century Russian admiral reflected his increasing focus in recent years on history and religion as binding forces in Russia’s post-Soviet society. His branding of his enemies as Nazis evoked what many Russians consider their country's finest hour, the defense of the motherland from Germany during World War II.

But this time they're the bad guys.

8 ( +13 / -5 )

was surrounded by suspicions it was a Kremlin-manufactured display of patriotism.

Putin, similar to fascist and other totalitarian leaders in the mid 20th century, knows how to tap into his follower's fears and ultra-nationalism, Putin and his oligarchs have controlled media and information for so long that many Russians have probably never heard perspectives different from those of Putin and his fellow ultra-nationalistic far right cabal. Putin like all despots knows he needs to fabricate enemies that he'll promise to protect his ovine hordes from. And by disappearing and killing journalists whose opinions vary from that of big brother Putin, and by blocking access to Internet sites that might question the little man sitting alone at his big desk, and by managing his own media empire he's been able to keep his sheep in their pens. And Putin, the ex=Stasi, ex-KGB sheep dog has used his skills at spreading propaganda to influence far right herds across the globe.

This will be just temporary.

The Russians love money, luxus, nice big cars, expensive watches, expensive clothes and so on...

And after a while, when they start to recognize that they can not get that anymore because of their government's mass murdering behavior, they will change their patriotism towards their government very soon.

Because nobody and especially the Russians do not want to live like in the stone age.

The Russians don't want to get kick back to the CCCP area by their own government.

There is plenty of evidence of extremists in the Ukraine waving Nazi flags openly in their rallies.

There is plenty of evidence of idiots waving nazi flags in EVERY country, including Russia. But it’s not a good enough excuse to start an illegal invasion and massacre civilians.

Just like the Nuremberg rallies of their fellow fascists, the Nazis.

Russia is a sick, decaying country that is going to get weaker and poorer. The economy is now at junk status, the ruble is effectively toilet paper, and the stock market has shut down due to being in free fall.

Keep the squeeze on them at maximum.

Hiro - I think this is exactly how Ukraine feels.

10 ( +13 / -3 )

Vladimir Putin appeared at a huge flag-waving rally at a packed Moscow stadium Friday and lavished praise on his troops fighting in Ukraine, three weeks into the invasion that has led to heavier-than-expected Russian losses on the battlefield and increasingly authoritarian rule at home.

Indeed, as has been mentioned above, authoritarian leaders with a narcissistic personality disorder seem to have to feed their insecurity with weird rallies like this. It's interesting to note that only two dictators in the world today feel the need to have these alt-reality spectacles; Putin, and a Putin-wanna-be in the US....

These rallies feed their blinded masses with lies, conspiracy theories, and a large dose of hate...

And the result is violence - whether its Sep 1st 1939, Jan 6th 2021, or Feb 24th 2022...

5 ( +12 / -7 )

LM - I think Kim likes them too.

We never had a dictator in US history. We have had electoral problems but never a dictator. Unlike Stalin, Hitler, Pinochet, Saddam, the US has never had anything like that.

Putin to Biden - YOU CAN'T PROTECT YOUR WOMEN AND CHILDREN!!! Russian crowd cheers.

Biden to the world - let's talk, crowd run from bombs and bullets.

the head of the Wagner group, who is a close friend of Putin, has a gestapo ‘SS’ tattoo.

This appears to be correct information. Although he is more than a close friend - he runs Putin's personal armed force. Which does make them quite close to the armed unit whose tattoo he bares. As the Group's name suggests, it is a neo-fascist group.

Do they ever stop to ask, "Are we the bad guys?"?

10 ( +12 / -2 )

the US has never had anything like that.

Not for a lack of trying by one in particular. Thank God for checks and balances.

13 ( +14 / -1 )

Not for a lack of trying

Hmmm…the left tried to turn the US into a socialist nation and that failed as well.

But yeah, Thank God for checks and balances.

Actually, world is worried that if they pick up a gun to save Ukraine, they will be next.

Jero Sakura, the world is worried that if they pick up a gun, they will be next. And with Putin running out of conventional weapons, that’s a logical fear.

@bass4funk You came close a couple of Januaries ago though, bro.

Yes, he does! The name of the group has ties to a well-known member of Hitler's circle. How is Putin saving Ukraine from the Nazis, again? Another lie goes out the window.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

I wonder if there’s a special place in Hell for hypocrites of this class.

There is plenty of evidence of extremists in the Ukraine waving Nazi flags openly in their rallies.

There are neo-nazis everywhere, including the US and other western countries, and they should be feared. But when Russians and their online Kremlin propaganda spreaders continue to push Putin's brand of national socialism, while claiming they're trying to eliminate national socialism, it's pretty hard to take them seriously. I know how 'fascism' is defined in English, is the Russian definition that different?

and continued to insist his actions were necessary to prevent “genocide" —

Is this the same insane male who said this:

Vladimir Putin threatens his own people, says will ‘finish’ the traitors

They might hate war but they hate it more when you try to meddle into their affairs.

Who's meddling? Russia invaded a sovereign nation, isn't that the epitome of meddling in another country's affairs?

6 ( +7 / -1 )

I imagine that as Putin grandstands a lot of ordinary Russians are making jokes about him. "Putin" is a goldmine for his puns in Russian. Putin zaputin. "Putin is all mixed up" is one. Rather mild. I am sure there are better ones going around.

It has to be admitted though---that is a pretty impressive crowd.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

@bass4funk You came close a couple of Januaries ago though, bro.

@GuyGene - are you channeling Xi & Putin? No rockets, no violence against women and children under Trump.

Worse still, are you saying the rest of the world is repulsed by elite liberal values now?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Correction we had a "dictator wannabe" who capitulated to authoritarian rulers because he wanted to be like them.

No, he did not, he admired their strength which is what they have, you don't have to like or agree, but it's true and that can't be disputed.

Giving them compliments in the media for attacking a sovereign nation like destroying hospitals and bombing women and children.

Ok, you are cherry-picking again, and I must submit to you that none of our adversaries are likable, but you want to do what Biden did to the Saudis and alienate them? Do you think that's wise? Now, these people are being pushed more to Russia and what happens if they stop using US petrol dollars, then what? Who will help us contain Iran? This is validating once again as to why liberals are horrible when it comes to geopolitical issues, they don't think long-term. You need to have a strategy to win over your opponents and Biden didn't do that, instead, he just snubbed the very people that help keep the US with all of its debt afloat figuratively and literally.

From the picture, we can see why trump loved his precious rallies and military parades so much!

What's so bad about that? Doesn't hurt or harm anyone.

Totally organic, for sure

I didn't find the song “Made in the U.S.S.R.,” too inspiring.

These are epic words though:

Maj. Gen. Oleksandr Pavlyuk, who is leading the defense of the region around Ukraine’s capital, said his forces are well-positioned to defend the city and vowed: “We will never give up. We will fight until the end. To the last breath and to the last bullet.”

There is plenty of evidence of idiots waving nazi flags in EVERY country, including Russia. But it’s not a good enough excuse to start an illegal invasion and massacre civilians.

Ironically, massacring civilians is what the several neonazi groups in the Ukraine have been doing.

Read up on e.g. the Azov battalion that the Russians are currently fighting in Mariupol.

You are unaware of the Odessa massacre and the last 7 years of shelling the Dombass, that has killed 14,000 civilians so far? That is the handywork of the Azov batallion.

Putin is a media whore. He wants to be in the news, looking powerful, regardless of the truth.

He's confused. Ukraine is a separate country. Ukraine didn't invade Russia and wasn't planning to invade. That was Russia who invaded another country and started killing the people there.

A time line of Putin's rise to power, starting from pre-conception: https://www.theonion.com/timeline-of-putin-s-rise-to-power-1848670065 /s
