It has been a truly unifying event for the nation. Even in death Her Majesty served her country.

It has indeed. The number of people disgusted at this nauseating display of enforced mourning, unhinged propaganda and servile obsequiousness from the media who are now supporting the dissolution of the monarchy and the introduction of a Republic has increased dramatically.

The world's most expensive nostalgia show. The British Empire is long dead, and the Commonwealth is mostly an impotent symbol of a lost colonial era.
I don't deny anyone the right to mourn the death of a loved one. I just wish this pomp and circumstance weren't foisted on the majority of human beings in the world who think monarchies are plain wrong. Even when (in the case of the UK) they generate tons of tourist revenue.
How many more days is this going to go on?

I agree with you,
I'm going to boycott these articles by not posting on them anymore.

don’t know where got that from. The internet and even some MSM are documenting a great divide, with polls putting at 50%.
the high profile of the pedo guy and no inheritance tax didn’t help either.

Prince Harry looks so nice in his military uniform!

Best comment of the year !!..
And so it is, what paraphernalia and media show of a monarchy that lives on its past glories and is totally obsolete in a modern world..
REPUBLIC NOW !!..

Some 750,000 people in total are expected to file past before Monday's funeral.
Mourners brave 24-hour wait in chilly London to see the queen's coffin

In all honestly I don't think UK will settle for a republic.
Monarchy sits head and shoulders above politics. And will continue to do so.
Imagine the possibility of a President Tony Blair, or Boris Johnson. Some shallow/hollow social media celebrity influencer?

I'm certainly no royalist, but I always find the irony of pontificating about the British royalty by foreigners who live in Japan, indirectly supporting the Imperial house of Japan, quite bizarre.
It's none of my business, so let the have their pomp, and let the royal FAMILY mourn their deceased.

I don’t know why Blair’s name keeps coming up in these conversations.
Why would it need to be a politician or social media influencer?
Why not someone from academia?
If you want to deal in hypotheticals, Imagine if Andrew was the next in line? Just luck for the UK that he isn’t.
That’s the gamble you take with hereditary positions.
Give me the ballot box over that.

Blair, Peter Mandelson, Boris Johnson, to name only a few have life long experience in campaign strategies and implementation, access to funding. Maybe Brown, John Major.
Blair is truly gifted in distributed organizing leveraging, Blair all but pioneered activism that generates greater engagement.
Alastair Campbell once mused nine candidates out ten have little or no concrete idea of how they can win.
I inclined to stick with devil you know than the devil you don't.
The Royal Family, at least on the surface hasn't put a foot wrong, although I feel this period of mourning has been tad drawn out.
I don't believe any of the poignancy to this period of national mourning would have been lost if scaled back.

Nothing has changed my mind and opinion on the abolition of the monarchy, House of Lords, inherited titles, and estates. Out-of-date honors system based on the British Empire.

King Charles III reign will/must herald change. Not just focused on the constitutional role the monarch has within society. In the areas of national identity, unity and pride.
And yes a slimmed down monarchy, and questions/debate surrounding royal assent to bills passed by parliament. And powers contained within the Royal prorogative.
This could be also be said of the role the House of Lord and honours system.
There is no time like the present.

Absolutely amazing. God bless the Queen's grandchildren. They are the future. And, Prince Philip and the Queen would be very proud of them.
I am greatly impressed by the dignity, respect, civility displayed by the people in the queue.

Bloody right @Aly.

No horse drawn gun carriage. It will be hauled by sailors from the Royal Navy.

If there had been a vote on abolishing the monarchy anytime over the last 3 years, the 'leavers' would have lost their deposit (the Brits here will know what I mean by that). Yes, no doubt there are things that need to be slimmed down. I agree. But by all means, try and force a vote. You'll lose and you'll lose badly...and then don't ask again for another generation.
Whichever poster who typed 'REPUBLIC NOW'... actually just made me laugh. Revolutionary nonsense for the moment that may well change in 100+ years. Not anytime soon. If you think monarchists are out of touch then you're even further away from reality.
Most Republicans support the far left of the Labour party, the party of Foot and Corbyn that is long dead as was proved in 2019. They feel 'hard done by', have little respect for their country and view all of those with money as 'Elite' despite many of us having worked bloody hard to make ourselves financially secure and enjoy life.
Financial Equality is an unreal scenario. It was called Communism and had a short life that went down with the Soviet Union. Hopefully never to return.

Supported the end of the monarchy for more than 50 years but it won't happen in my remaining 20 years. But it does not change my opinion on iota.
Changes will come in many ways over the next 30-50 years.

Quite a few come from the LibDens too. Liz Truss will tell you that.
I find the metropolitan liberal elites tend to be quite anti-royal.
Academics often sneer at it.
Comes from quite a few directions.
I found southerners tended to be more pro-royal.

Empires, Kings. countries, regimes have come and gone, but Britain keeps on going.
I think Brits are showing a kind of patriotism that goes beyond flying flags and singing some daft song. It's a lot deeper.
I'm not saying that this is particular to the Brits, but at the moment we seem quite united and ready for what could be a tough winter.
