Trooping the Colour. It’s a name, should be spelled with a ‘u’. And street parties did not start with the Queen’s Coronation.

That fly past was brilliant though, flew straight over my block, so low you could see the markings on the planes. Spectacular.

Those who stood fast during WWII are passing us by. Unlike many today, she expected little and chipped in as a mechanic. Back then, everyone pulled together regardless of their position or status. To me she represents that generation that I greatly respect and admire.

I can understand why she cannot attend and I'm sure it troubles her greatly as she has dedicated her entire life in service to her country and puts that BEFORE herself. Today had to be difficult with mobility issues and the fact that she stepped out for the first time on the balcony without her beloved husband. She is one gracious and tough lady who has seen it all and I congratulate her on 70 years of leadership to her people. She is an example of leadership to the world and is the epitome of the word SERVICE. I hope she feels better soon.

If you are too ill to do the job its time to retire and let someone else take over.....

However, seeing that means your eldest son Charles.... Please hang on as long as possible.

And in those days, the UK and US fought against the Nazis.

Mr. Kipling, I agree. The Duke of Kent looks quite older than his mother.

I wouldn’t go that far. Some of those who support the monarchy in the UK just enjoy the tabloid gossip and media circus. Wagatha Christie crap.

The queen, wearing a dusky dove blue dress designed by Angela Kelly

This is an example. This is the kind of language you hear at another cringefest - the Oscars.

By the way, how much did that cost?

Main photo looks like a scene from Mary Poppins.

Such a shame. Let's hope Her Majesty can observe her jubilee in comfort and peace.

Long live the Queen!

What 'service'? Standing on the balcony of a multi-million pound palace earned by birth, while gazing up at millions of taxpayers money being wittered away on pomp.

Today had to be difficult with mobility issues and the fact that she stepped out for the first time on the balcony

There are pensioners in the country who ride around on buses because they cannot afford to heat their homes and eat. Save your pity for them.

In the UK people cannot even get away on holiday because there are no airport staff, the 100% energy bill increases are not capped like the French and Spanish do for their people, and families are being fed by food banks. And yet we spend millions of taxpayers money celebrating a family connected to Jeffrey Epstein (oh sorry, that one was paid off..)

The Europeans (including those with royal family's) think the British are idiots for the money spent on this family and for destroying our economy (Brexit).

@Tigers

Spot on. One of the most sickening stories I read was about people undergoing chemotherapy being afraid to heat their houses.

Meanwhile, the head of this taxpayer-funded family finds millions to get her errant son out of the swamp.

Obscene.

Moral rot at top of the UK - both elected and unelected.

Yes, the royal family costs each UK taxpayer 69 pence (112 yen) per year.

That's a bargain compared to all of the prime ministers and members of parliament she's had to put with for 70 years.

Probably pulled a "sickie" to avoid been see with Boris Johnson

Good for her, but not a fan of her propping up her sicko son financially and trying to "rehabilitate" his image.

A fine human being. Pride of England and a much loved and revered citizen of Planet Earth. Hearty congratulations to Queen Elizabeth II. Seventy years on the throne and 96 years amidst loved ones. Wishing her a well deserved century and beyond.

She should abdicate like Emperor Akihito did. Her poor son has waited in line forever

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle booed as popularity plummets

Shared activities are fun for all and help build comradery. Seems like everyone having a great time after 2 years of Covid.

It is a fiscal and monetary fact, the economic benefits generated to the UK economy by the Monarchy is a minuscule cost to the British nation, calculated in 2017 at £4.20 per person per year or just over 1p a day.

That is the total costs of Monarchy, close to £300 million, include the Sovereign Grant, earnings from the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall, security expenses etc.

It is politically nonsensical to personalize into a some delusional “othering”, the have and have not syndrome

Brand Finance estimates the Monarchy generated a gross uplift of £2.7 billion to the UK economy annually

That does not include another £850 million contribution to tourism.

Independently audited and published.

I think a tad more pragmatism, and objectiveness is needed here.

How is the monarchy going to be replaced with president Tony flipping Blair?

Poverty, the cost of living crisis, monetary and fiscal incompetence sole responsibility resides in government.

That is where the buck stops. not in Buckingham palace.

Isn't this their goal? I thought that's why they stopped being royals.

How could Brothers with a bond from the tragic the lost of there mother become so estranged?

All families have to challenge and overcome there hurt and lost your trust.

itsonlyrocknroll, you did the math, so explain to yourself how all these billions of pounds (absolute nonsense - tourism to the UK is not related to the Queen) then equates to, in your own words, poverty and a cost of living crisis? Surely your (incorrect) calculation would lead to wealth for all? How come all of this so-called Queens tourism income has led to my food and energy bills skyrocketing and a collapse in the job market?

You miss the point anyway. With (your self-admitted) poverty and a cost of living crisis, how can the UK justify all this splendour and expenditure?

Why can't the UK have a discreet and moderate royal family like they manage in Europe and Japan?

TigersTokyoDome, there is no disputing the positive effect Monarchy has on tourism

Not just the branding of individual members of the royal family but also numerous related aspects

Sadly for low-and middle-income families, I suggest, for the foreseeable future there will be economic struggles/challenges. I fully appreciate your financial predicament.

It is Governments past and present that have failed to advocate sound economic polices not Royals.

My UK family agriculture business was wiped out during the pandemic. I supported them through the economic struggles and turmoil with my wealth and savings to the extent I am back to square one personally.

The UK will need the financial pull the Royal Family provides for the foreseeable future.

I don't think you will agree.

I wish you well.
