Fighto!
More barbaric behaviour from the genocidal, fascist Russians. Targeting women, children and civilians is a deliberate tactic. The aim is to create terror and break the spirit of the Ukrainians.
The lives of women, children and civilians mean nothing to Russians.
The fascist Russians cannot win. The more innocent Ukrainians they murder, the less chance they have of ever being accepted into the civilized world. May the Ukrainian defenders keep blowing to hell every fascist Russian on Ukrainian sovereign territory.

Missile attacks on a monastery and civilian apartments filled with families, do the anti-western extremists and CCP Supporters still believe the Kremlin's propaganda that Russia is in Ukraine to kill Nazis and tools of Satan. Russian invaders and Russian 'separatists' go back to actual Russian territory, which does not include the areas Putin used a Sharpie and the Wagner Group to define.

Russia again targeting civilians. Pathetic cowards
UChosePoorly
In related news - Bakhmut holds on for another day.
Fighto!
It's what Russians have always done. WW2 was a classic example where they used rape and murder en masse against civilians during and after the war - not to mention within the Soviet Union.
They know nothing except for barbarity.
Moonraker
Russia has abandoned any pretence of being civilised by now and is playing up to the worst western conceptions of its atavistic barbarism.
Yrral
Moonraker, this is fight to last man standing,it not gonna go away, the support for it will, the side at the mercy of others ,will be the loser

This is why no one cares what russia or china says….about ANYTHING
Moonraker
Perhaps, Yrral. But Russia will be the loser. Eventually, it will be divided between the West and China and will cease to exist.

I saw footage of a missile hitting an apartment block and setting it on fire, kids and people walking around below. Russia, what on earth are you doing?
wallace
Target civilian sites then claim they were military targets.
According to latest UN human rights office (OHCHR) data, at least 8,000 non-combatants have been confirmed killed – with nearly 13,300 injured.

By that reasoning, every apartment building is a military storage depot. When you have concrete evidence that this is the case, then you can speak with some authority. In the meantime, display some humanity for the innocents who are mercilessly targeted by Russian aggression.

“Russia is shelling the city with bestial savagery,”
And Russia and China are besties now.
We are all witnessing evil at play.

And still the western powers encourage the fantasy of no peace talks until Russia leaves including Crimea which is never going to happen.
Meanwhile Nishida gives more but somehow also promising a stimulus package to help Japan's economy, UK inflation going crazy but still more money for Ukraine, France on fire as pension she raised but more money for Ukraine, the USA raising interest rates, more banks failing, but still more money for Ukraine, etc...
Where is all this money going to come From? What next? 10%, 15%, 20% interest rates? No print more money?
Stop the fantasy, time to get a ceasefire going and negotiate a way out of this mess and NO not after Russia leaves, use your heads it isn't going to happen Russia keeps advancing even the Ukrainian government admits that.

China, and anyone else who thinks Russia’s war against humanity is OK is either cynical on a demented level or criminal themselves.

Mr K
Fact… The reason civilians are dying in this war is because Russia invaded a peaceful smaller neighbor in a land grab
Fact… If Russia hadn’t invaded they wouldn’t be commuting war crimes and killing innocent civilians
Fact… If Russia goes home the war stops and so do these civilian deaths
Fact… It’s all on Russia
wallace
Putin could call a ceasefire today. Just pick up the phone and I'll pay for the call.
UChosePoorly
Mr. K
Fact... Bakhmut did not fall at the end of last month as you had predicted,
Antiquesaving
Because if you follow any of the military channels including the highly pro Ukraine.
They all are pointing out Russia is making a far bigger encirclement to take 2 more villages an another city inside the same pocket by cutting the roads in and out and taking the high ground surrounding that area.
Seems that the goal is not just Bahkmut but the area to the north West to stop any counter attack.
UChosePoorly
AS - so you don't think Bakhmut will fall?
wallace
Putin/Russia is the invader and aggressor. Ukraine is defending itself. Too easy for some to lose sight of that.

It has nothing to do with western powers, they aren't fighting this war. The US has always said that it's up to Ukraine. Ukraine want to keep their country. They don't want their children taken away to Russia. They don't want their people raped and tortured.
So they fight on.
UChosePoorly
AS - it is also pretty fantastical to think that Ukraine will surrender to Russia. They will not.

According to both pro Ukraine and pro Russian analysts and by the movement of Russian forces.
Seems The encirclement and eventual fall of Bahkmut will include encircling Ivanivske and areas to the north West.
This cuts of both Bakhmut and Ivanivske from supplies and cuts of reinforcements. It all includes the high ground making holding the area easier.
The is why Ukraine keeps sending in wave after wave of more troops to try and hold open the route to Ivanivske.
UChosePoorly
AS - by when do you think Bakhmut will fall? Care to make a prediction?
Antiquesaving
You do understand the meaning of ceasefire and negotiation, right.
I am not calling for surrender, but a ceasefire and to negotiate and end.
But you seem to ignore that.
Antiquesaving
Hahaha.
Turkey said it was about to broker a ceasefire when Boris Johnson flew to Ukraine and pushed to not do it
u_s__reamer
Every day that Putin lives he breathes more life into Ukrainian patriots. And one day the Russians will smell the coffee and wake up to the truth when they're served a punishing reparations bill that will send them off on a vodka binge.
starpunk
Russia is using drones and missiles on Ukrainian cities because the locals are resisting, giving the Russian invaders a real hard time.
But it's all a sign of a failure. Putin figured this 2would be an easy war like Kazakhstan was last year. He counted WRONG. Sooner or later the UN sanctions and other bans imposed on Putin will kick him in the gonads. Drafting men in their 40s and even 50s is a sign of desperation. And Russia is buying drones from Iran, not making them themselves.
Russia certainly has mastered the art of cyberwarfare, the 2016 installment of Traitortrump into the WH proves that loud and clear. But it does have limits and the Ukrainian physical local resistance is proof. They ain't going to surrender or take this sitting down!
Russia is losing manpower, weaponry, material, money in this war every day. Putin is a pariah and sooner or later he's got to realize he made a BIG mistake on this one.
UChosePoorly
AS - Unless the ceasefire involves the Russians going back to Russia, it naturally favors Russia (allows them to consolidate gains and rest/resupply), which is why the pro-Russia side (and you, I suppose) badly wants one. Now, if you are suggesting a more neutral ceasefire, in which the Russians go back to Russia, I think the Ukrainian side might be open to that.
Antiquesaving
That is called a retreat and surrender.
Dream on if you think that Russia is going to do that.
Under your view of a ceasefire, the Korean war and war with China would still be on going.
Despite the killing and fighting the North, South, UN coalition, China, held negotiations, same in Bosnia Herzegovina,
UChosePoorly
A retreat perhaps, but we don't have to call it a surrender. Just say 'Mission Accomplished' and go home.
UChosePoorly
But thank you for your acknowledgment that a ceasefire in place at this point in time favors Russia.
UChosePoorly
AS - I am not making any predictions as to what Russia will choose to do or not. I am just saying that Ukraine is not going to surrender to Russia. They probably aren't going to agree to a ceasefire in place, either.

The day before Putin & Xi were making strong proclamations of how they only wanted peace for Ukraine. Then the very next day yet another missile slammed into a Ukrainian apartment complex. As Kirby said, it just shows again how insincere Putin is. Xi doesn’t look like much of a peacemaker either . . . guilt by association.

Ukraine's choice. And their choice only.
And after the Bucha massacre, I doubt they will be willing to trust Russia.

In what year will this happen? They can't even handle an encirclement of Bakhmut, and you think they can pull off a larger one? By your own admission, Ukraine holds the high ground and fortified positions. Wagner convicts are almost at the end of their contracts, and the mobilized are being depleted.
Antiquesaving
Perhaps stop listening to propaganda and look at more neutral reports.

He takes no sides, gives reports based on all sources and confirmed.
There are others that use all sources to get the facts.
Wagner is by no means depleted and have been steadily advancing.
And like the reports since March last year or Russia "this month" no April, no June, no July, etc...
The constant Wanger has no more men hasn't proven true yet.

Ukraine is not going to enter any kind of negotiations immediately. They are making final preparations for a major spring offensive. The outcome of that offensive however could set the stage for some sort of negotiations next winter perhaps.
I would not be too sanguine about Russia's ability to hold out much past late summer. They have burned though a lot of their armor including some of their old T-62s brought out of retirement. They appear to be refurbishing late 1940s T-54 and somewhat later but still nearly identical T-55 tanks and sending them west.

Xi is to appoint a special Chinese delegate to negotiate a ceasefire between the two countries after he talks to Zelenskyy next week.
A) cease fire → negotiations
B) completely withdraw from Ukraine → negotiations
The former is peacemaking The latter is to say carry on.
Antiquesaving
Is that the same source that you used in March last year, again in May, and April, June, July, August, September, October, etc.. that said Russia was out of ammunition

Terrorizing and killing Ukraine's civilians!
The list is getting longer and longer!

Besides: no cease fire and negotiations until the last Russian marauder has left Ukrainian soil, including but not limited to Crimea! And of course negotiations under the conditions set by President Zelenskyy.

That's true. They are running out of ammunition. And tanks. I'm not sure why you doubt it.
Desert Tortoise
That is exactly what their forces in Ukraine are complaining about bitterly, a lack of ammunition, lack of weapons, old ineffective weapons. When you have to ask DPRK to replenish some of your stocks of howitzer ammo and rockets for your older Grads then your own stocks are being depleted. The Russian offensive is stalled. Bakhmut is going to be the graveyard of the Red Army. The Ukrainians have turned it into a very effective killing grounds. The Russians are not making any progress anywhere else.

I'm saying the Wagner convicts' contracts are nearly completed. After that, they will be free men (already pardoned by Putin). Of course, some will continue and some won't. Wagner is now unable to recruit convicts, so they are obviously going to be less in number. This is not propaganda...
Desert Tortoise
That one made me laugh. Tank guns are direct fire weapons with a much shorter range than a howitzer of the same or similar bore. A Russian 122 mm howitzer has a range on the order of 12000 meters but their 125 mm smooth bore gun in the T-72, T-80 and T-90 can manage at most 2000 meters, and usually much less. Because their guns are direct fire tanks have to be line of sight to whatever they are shooting at, and at the comparatively short range of that old 100 mm gun the tank will be exposed to all kinds of much more modern anti tank weapons that will quickly dispatch it. Howitzers are indirect fire weapons that can lob shells high in the air over obstacles so the gun can engage targets from behind hills, trees and buildings. Tank guns cannot be elevated far enough for indirect fire like that so the have to close in on their target to engage, well inside the range of a buzz saw of ATGMs.

It doesn’t play a role what they do there on the battlefield, if they fight and die or not, if they have lot of ammo or none. That’s all insignificant. There are practically only two thinkable outcomes, and those are political ones. Either no Ukraine and the area becomes part of Russian Federation, or a Ukraine that is smaller than before and anyhow associated or treaty guaranteed Russian friendly, not only neutral or avoiding EU and NATO membership. Anything else is a naive illusion or even a threat to the whole globe. And I am sure, that deep inside your head you all know that already. No bigger world power like US, China or in this case here Russia, tolerates any bigger problems in their neighborhood , or a country that is not associated or even trying to contradict or become member of the counter pole blocks. Cubs, Taiwan , Baltic states, that works somehow as long as they are small and silent. But here in this case, it somehow doesn’t and won’t work, maybe they just have become too big and too rebellious after 2014.

It is now. It doesn't bode well for the future.
That is unacceptable to Ukraine.
How is being a member of the EU a threat? It's an economic group.
Not at all.
Russia isn't a world power anymore. Their only threat is nuclear bluster.

"" The drone barrage and other Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure also drew a scathing response from Zelenskyy.
“Over 20 Iranian murderous drones, plus missiles, numerous shelling occasions, and that’s just in one last night of Russian terror,” he tweeted in English. “"
May be the time has come for Ukraine to take this war to Iran and demolish it's drone assembly facilities.!! Israel managed to put a stop to Iran R&D Nuclear capabilities Ukraine should do the same.

So who is it that Putin is supposedly trying to liberate? Certainly not the dead civilians he is daily killing.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Russia going for the all time record of war crimes. Perhaps they will yet outdo Nazi Germany.
TaiwanIsNotChina
So your response to warcrimes is "Negotiate Nao!". Classy.
Russia hasn't advanced since like March 2022. Ukraine, on the other hand, advanced considerably since then.
TaiwanIsNotChina
So you'd be okay with NATO troops, planes, and missiles in Ukraine to enforce this ceasefire right? Didn't think so.
The Russian doesn't get to define retreat as surrender. I know they like being sent to charge into fixed positions but they should expect more than that in life.
The Korean War ended with the status quo ante bellum. A similar model for Ukraine would have Russia back in its 2014 borders. That's all we're asking for.
ClippetyClop
I think most people wonder why someone would want Russia to obliterate Ukraine in this situation.
But if you read their comments on other topics you'll find that it's simply because they are unpleasant people to start with.
UChosePoorly
Not sure if the Ukrainians would go for this, but you may be on to something here.

Some info from other side?
never?
But why?
UChosePoorly
Exactly. With how much the pro-Russian / "neutral observer" segment is flooding SM recently with talk of ceasefire, I can only surmise that it is Russia who would very much like to freeze the line of contact in place for a bit. Wonder why?
ClippetyClop
Since Crimea has been in Russian control for 9 of those 10 years then it seems that the Russian government is attacking its own people.
You didn't really think about that too hard did you Steve? Or is it just a Freudian slip?
