Russian forces in Ukraine tried to storm a steel plant housing soldiers and civilians in the southern city of Mariupol on Saturday

Another lie by the Russian invaders. I don't think anyone can ever believe a thing this government says ever again.

Bronco - you seem eager for the Ukrainians to surrender to the Russians. Why is that?

A 3-month-old baby was among six people killed when Russia fired cruise missiles at the Black Sea port city of Odesa, officials said.

Reports have said Odesa has always been a target and also Moldova.

Innocents die, Japan is continuing to purchase fish and oil from Russia and sell them cigarettes.

4 ( +10 / -6 )

Zelenskyy also bemoaned the death of the infant in Odesa. “The war started when this baby was one month old. Can you imagine what is happening?" he said. "They are just bastards. ... I don’t have any other words for it, just bastards.”

Russia, and Russia alone, is responsible for this.

Where is the UN? Isn't this exactly what they're supposed to do? If not why does UN exist?

2 ( +8 / -6 )

"liberated" seems to be Russian code for "destroyed".

Where is the UN? Isn't this exactly what they're supposed to do? If not why does UN exist?

Permanent members on the US Security Council all have a veto, so the UN will not be acting thanks to Russia and China. The same thing happened when the US invaded Afghanistan and Iraq the 2nd time. The US vetoed any UN actions.

I feel bad for the Russians and Chinese who aren't allowed to learn the truth in Ukraine. They would be able to apply pressure on their govts to stop.

Lots of places speak different languages than the rest of their country - that doesn't make them part of the country where that language is mostly used. That's like saying Miami is 80% Spanish speaking, so Spain can invade. After all, Florida was a Spanish territory at 1 point. There's Little Kyiv in many US cities which is full of Ukrainians enjoying their culture and language. They aren't part of the country of Ukraine.

Russia will kill lots of people, waste lots of Russian lives, destroy lots of Russian military equipment along with Ukrainian cities ... then they will be beaten, thrown out, and something really bad will happen to the Russian leaders responsible. Lastly, the Russian constitution will be altered to prevent this sort of thing from happening again and to mandate freedom of speech and voter rights. I just hope fewer people die as all this unfolds.

Where is the UN? Isn't this exactly what they're supposed to do? If not why does UN exist?

The UN is good for many things, but not for this. Not with permanent members of the UNSC being some of the biggest violators of the international order (and yes, I count my own country, US, as one of these. We need to do much better)

I would be in favor of a defensive alliance to counter the authoritarians of the world, similar to NATO's mission, but expanded beyond the North Atlantic. Members would have to be a liberal democracy in the classic sense of the word, subject to revocation.

Russia will kill lots of people, waste lots of Russian lives, destroy lots of Russian military equipment along with Ukrainian cities

and Putin won’t lose one minute of sleep

and the Russian fanboys here will cheer them on every step of the way

"They are just bastards. ... I don’t have any other words for it, just bastards.”

Amen to Zelenskyy's eloquence.

And those who close their eyes to Putin's war of aggression and crimes against humanity deserve to have "inglorious basterd" engraved on their gravestone.

6 ( +13 / -7 )

Putin will always be remembered as a baby killer. An evil man who in his later years wanted to be the man to grow Russia. All he has done is to send Russian men to die and destroy cities.

He will be remembered hatefully. As a murderer he will not be celebrated.

8 ( +14 / -6 )

Then you’ll have to count the USA out of the group very shortly.

Perhaps, and that is the way it should work.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

Russia, and Russia alone, is responsible for this.

Those who idolize Putin and extreme right authoritarianism would probably disagree, they'll continue to spout some variation of: Russia was just protecting itself from NATO which was going to invade Russia, and say Russia was also trying to denazify a sovereign nation, which just so happens to be located in a region Russian myths say belong to Mother Russia, a nation that also has resources Putin was control of to enhance his gas station.

Putin, like other narcissistically impaired, rapacious politicians will blame 'others' for problems he created. Or maybe to satisfy his little male's ego might proudly say I ordered my military to slaughter all those women and children, look how strong I am, and if you do not believe me I will go nuke. What a pathetic excuse for a leader, a little blue-eyed male who has attracted a cult of small-minded individuals. Maybe Putin can be embalmed and lie forever next to Lenin, another Vladimir idol for those worshipping authoritarianism.

Supporting putin is beyond foolish. He’s a weak, shaking dead man slouching. See him gripping that desk corner. It’s a stroke or Parkinson’s. Get rid of him, follow someone else.

6 ( +14 / -8 )

I remember a few years ago when far right "Ukrainian" folks chased and cornered ethnic Russians in Odesa and burned them alive in a building.

-11 ( +8 / -19 )

Everyday i read comments here of condemning putins supporters.

However there's never any commenters that are actually supporting putin.

There are those commenters that question the validity of the Ukraine crisis details.

However ive yet to see any comments made by supporters of putin.

Just spewing hate isnt condusive to a meaningful discussion.

More indicative of a vicious adolescent rabid mob mentality.

-9 ( +8 / -17 )

exactly. What happened to being able to question or be critical of one thing without someone trying to claim that means you support another?

The person who usually responds by saying “your friend/liberals/woke” to anyone he disagrees with. You must be joking.

@peace

Ukraine are the country that has been invaded. They are defending their country, their homes, their lives.

if Russia had not invaded, if Russian forces withdrew, there would be nothing to report.

Russia are the bad guys here - don’t forget that

7 ( +15 / -8 )

However ive yet to see any comments made by supporters of putin.

but everyday we see comments condemning Ukraine & their leadership, for defending their country.

Everyday, Comments accusing Ukraine of murdering their own citizens, blowing up their own buildings, not surrendering.

the fact that you’re constantly pointing the finger of blame at Ukraine, indicates that you are supporting Putin & his invasion.

5 ( +14 / -9 )

Knowing people in Ukraine, I can tell you that Putin needs to be tried for war crimes.

7 ( +14 / -7 )

However ive yet to see any comments made by supporters of putin.

There are a few here that openly admit to supporting Putin and/or Russia over Ukraine. There are a whole lot more who are supposedly neutral, or "just asking questions", or even feigning disinterest. Effective disinfo/misinfo isn't going to be all-in-your-face about it, but rather seeks to sow doubt, confusion, and ultimately apathy.

Conditions are changing, Ukrainian are losing ground in the east, they could be surrounded,if the lose key cities, these are reporting from confirm Twitter accounts on the internet, with gps coordinates, yes they are killings Russian, but Russian are gradually over running, their defensive position, Ukraine official admitted to fact,in the fall of 2021,they feared and Invasion, but did nothing,if surrounded, they will be outnumbered 2 to 1,with supplies cuts Google Geoconfirmed Rubizhne Twitter

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

I remember a few years ago when far right "Ukrainian" folks chased and cornered ethnic Russians in Odesa and burned them alive in a building.

So you are upset about an attack 8 years ago that left 40 dead, but have no problem with an attack that is happening right now and is estimated to have left about 20,000 dead just in Mariupol?

5 ( +9 / -4 )

In a way, Ukraine is fighting its War of Independence just as America did over 200 years ago. America fought the British with critical support from France. Ukraine is fighting Russia with critical support from the U.S. Americans also fought with the same spirit against an oppressive superpower just as the Ukrainians are today against Russia. The big difference is distance. America had the ocean between it and Britain, whereas Ukraine is joined at the hip with Russia. However the spirit of independence is the same, and this will hopefully carry the day for all freedom loving Ukrainians.

5 ( +10 / -5 )

After seizing Mariupol, Russia is moving South.

It has started to fire cruise missiles at Odesa, killing a dozen.

The war intensifies, more soldiers and civilians sacrifice their lives, apparently for nothing worthwhile..

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

So let's put this into perspective. There's this country, and nearby countries/areas that were created due to a historical reshaping of the relatively recent political order, now have sizeable populations of this country's clansmen/ethnic group living inside those other areas. Oh, and the Leader of this country feels miffed, like his "powerful" country doesn't get enough respect, and that all others are "out to get him and his people".

So the leader of this country, starts screaming "this area over here in that country, they're treating our people horribly, they're murdering them, blah blah blah..." and so he starts whipping his clansmen there into a frenzy against the local area, then claims that all he wants to do is to protect his people there. He'll even give them citizenship in his larger country, to keep them safe. But things get worse, so he invades and takes over that area where his people live. "It's the last time this will happen, I promise," the leader swears.

Yet, the exact same thing happens in a different country: his ethnic group, again, secretly fueled by the "Motherland", start agitating; they are being mistreated yet again, and all this leader wants to do is to liberate those people, let them choose if they want to live to stay in the foreign country or be free.

The leader even starts secretly and surreptitiously sending troops and funding from his country into the offending country, to bolster his separatist peoples, and to destabilize and weaken the offending country. Eventually, he has no choice but to invade: his people cannot possibly be free under the tyranny of their present country. "But this is really, really the final time this happens!" he again swears.

People here supporting Putin are making this exact case: that this is only what Putin aims to do: to protect his peoples, no matter where they might live.

But the leader here I'm referring to isn't Putin. It's Adolf Hitler.

This is EXACTLY the EXACT SAME STRATEGY that Hitler's Nazi Germany used to take over first the mandate-ruled Saarland, then the demilitarized zone of the Rhineland, then Austria (attacking the government this time, not a foreign peoples, a novelty), then the Sudentenland in Czechoslovakia, and when that was not enough, the entire country, non-ethnic brothers included. Because why not? He had "no other choice!" Then...he wanted Danzig...and then most of Poland...and then....well, I hope you know the rest of this historical tale.

So my question to the Putin Bots here is: since you support Putin's Hitler strategy in 2022, do you ALSO support the original creator of this strategy, namely, Nazi Germany's moves to defend their peoples from outside tyranny, no matter the cost? If it's good enough for the Fascist Russian, why was it bad for the Fascist Germans? And do you REALLY think that after doing this to Moldova, and to Georgia, and in many, many other places besides, that this will be the last time he tried the Hitler strategy?

2 ( +7 / -5 )

Zelensky knew Russian would invade as early as this summer, did nothing to prepare

what are you talking about !?

The Ukrainian military has been training with NATO instructors since 2014. Why do you think they kicked Russia’s arse the first four weeks.

6 ( +11 / -5 )

Uchosepoorly

Just because i dont spew anger towards putin vehemently doesn't mean i lack empathy or support Russia.

Iam mostly swiss so yes i would rather stay neutral yet ready to fight only if absolutely necessary.

Being that i am not actually in Ukraine to witness exactly what's happening i cannot honestly say i believe everything thats being reported.

If perhaps you are omnipresent and see and know all then that's great.

However iam not omnipresent.

As i have made it crystal clear before- i do not approve of violence or war for any reason whatsoever.

Iam not going to join the club of viscous hate spewing .

It's not admirable or a virtue.

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

Yrral

Conditions are changing, Ukrainian are losing ground in the east, they could be surrounded,if the lose key cities, these are reporting from confirm Twitter accounts on the internet, with gps coordinates

Most likely the Russian forces will over extend and then their supply issues kick in again.

In a way, Ukraine is fighting its War of Independence just as America did over 200 years ago. America fought the British with critical support from France.

The difference is the French had their Generals like Rochambeau in America to aid the American effort, and the blockade of the British at Yorktown by the French navy was one of the decisive events that forced the British to surrender.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

which of course has nothing to do with my point that criticizing one thing does meant support of another.

Right, well a message can be sent not just by what is said, but what isn't said. Plenty of scorn for Ukraine, the west, and president Biden, but utterly silent on Russia invading. Saying nothing says quite a lot.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

Saying nothing says quite a lot.

No I believe saying nothing is…….saying nothing.

Exactly what happened as nothing was said.

what you are speaking of is called assumption or in liberal terms “projection”.

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

You know how you find out what someone thinks?

you listen. If you don’t hear- you ask.

not he criticized this, so means he supports that.

he didn’t say anything at all so I get to make up what I think he would have said to make myself look virtuous and him evil.

um nope.

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

You know who a putin supporter is?

someone who has a post that says “I support Putin”. So who are we talking about who is a Putin supporter here?

anyone? I’m not.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

I denounce the Russia invasion of Ukraine.

See? Easy.

now is there anything that Ukraine has done before or since that, anything at all, that bothers YOU?

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

now is there anything that Ukraine has done before or since that, anything at all, that bothers YOU?

Ukraine as a whole? No. Absolutely not. I support Ukraine's heroic attempt to defend itself against fascist Russian invaders, and I always will. I also applaud the west in helping a democratic Ukraine defend itself.
