Hate to say this, but Bernie, you are too old and should be passing the torch to someone else!

6 ( +18 / -12 )

Would be refreshing. But he might not be able to keep up with the pace of a demanding job. People begin to slow down quite quickly after the age of 80.

-2 ( +6 / -8 )

Good news for MAGA 2020!

-10 ( +12 / -22 )

Hopefully, the DNC won’t secretly undermine his campaign this time so he’ll have a fair shot, although it appears they have already decided on K Harris.

0 ( +8 / -8 )

Bernie got stiffed by the Democratic Party nabobs in 2016. However, I think he's too old, a younger person is needed this time.

His value remains, like so many others who've announced candidacies, in raising issues during the campaign that need to be addressed.

The majority of US voters will most likely once again opt for alternatives to the current White House syndicate which has taken an approach of undermining US systems and further dividing a long fractured nation by pushing a white nationalist agenda while trying to model itself on the approaches taken by Saudi Arabia, Israeli and Russian regimes.

Democrat 1: "Our plan last election failed miserably. What should we do?"

Democrat 2: "Let's do the exact same thing again. It's sure to work this time!"

It's looking more and more like its gonna be Trump 2020 whether we like it or not.

-1 ( +11 / -12 )

He has the best policy ideas but I think his time has passed. I'll still vote for him in the primary unless by that point, late in the campaign, the race is down to two other candidates. But win or lose, 2016 or 2020, having voices like him in the debate is hugely beneficial. He forced Clinton to the left on some things and he's shifted the national conversation in significant ways over the last 3 years. Naturally, corporate friendly voices in the Democratic Party or Trumpists online, think any such movement is a bad thing but that's b/c they now how resonant his populist themes and ideas are.

Even if his campaign fails, he'll no doubt force more candidates more palatable to the establishment like Harris to be less dismissive of "Democratic Socialism." 13 million of us voted for him for a reason, he's the most popular politician in America for a reason. Dismiss him at your own risk.

6 ( +11 / -5 )

The guy look like he could barely walk. I am sorry, but they should place their hope on someone a little younger. Otherwise he might actually suffer severely from stress and overwork.

-5 ( +6 / -11 )

Step aside all you simulated Socialists, here comes the real one.

80 year old Bernie Sanders, announcing he will make yet another attempt at destroying the strongest, most innovative economy the world has ever known.

How will the various Socialists differentiate from each other with all of the "free" stuff they are offering? Each of the candidates should have a mandatory trip to Venezuela to see a true worker's paradise and to have a full understanding of what they are trying to "give" to each of us.

-10 ( +11 / -21 )

A decent man who probably would have beaten Trump if he’d got the nomination last time. A pity the Democrats screwed him over, but it’s time to move on.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

Bernie "Breadlines are good" Sanders.

-4 ( +9 / -13 )

I think he's too old, a younger person is needed this time.

Generally agree but doesn't it depend on the quality of the younger candidates? Beto who sounds like a cipher--all hope and change and very little in the way of policy ideas--or Wall Street darling Cory Booker?

"Our plan last election failed miserably. What should we do?"Democrat 2: "Let's do the exact same thing again. It's sure to work this time!"

Brilliant analysis. Last time we had 2 candidates, one basically anointed. This time we're going to have at least a dozen, including the guy who lost last time. Other than that, it's exactly the same.

And Kabuki checking in with right-wing conflation of socialism and social democracy. In there world and the talking pts. demanded of them, seizing the means of production and forced communes are the equivalent of affluent Nordic societies.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Like him, his ideas are much more inline with mine than, but the democrats are not focused and split all over the place... at this rate, sadly, I suspect the world will be subject to another term of madness.

Yes, madness, anti-freedom of press, dictator like announcing of "national emergencies" etc etc etc

2 ( +7 / -5 )

I love Bernie because of his messages, especially for the working class, but he's better on the sidelines than a leader. Of course we have well over a year for him to change my mind.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

Kabuki:. How will the various Socialists

Yep. The socialist Dems vs the fascist Repubs. Which side are you on?

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Hes been scamming for years. "Socialism" is his schtick.

-3 ( +8 / -11 )

Oh no, give it up Bernie. Time for a younger person with more charisma to have a shot.

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

And Kabuki checking in with right-wing conflation of socialism and social democracy. In there world and the talking pts. demanded of them, seizing the means of production and forced communes are the equivalent of affluent Nordic societies.

Well put. You do have to admire the uniformity of the ideas though. It’s like synchronized swimming.

Venezuela is the buzzword. The Scandinavian countries, which Sanders admires, are to be dismissed due to the fact they have small populations.

It’s all very predictable.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

How can he lead a party he does not belong to?

Hard pass on Bernie. He’s a divisive megalomaniac. I’m tired of him and his followers claiming the high ground while completely denying that they served as handmaidens to trump and all the awfulness he has brought.

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

let's see how the Dems hold him back this time despite him being the most popular politician in the country....

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Hate to say this, but Bernie, you are too old

Same age as Biden but nobody says that about Biden. Why?

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Hopefully, the DNC won’t secretly undermine his campaign this time so he’ll have a fair shot, although it appears they have already decided on K Harris.

that is exactly right. if you check polling Bernie is the most popular candidate in the whole country, as he also was in 2016....

1 ( +4 / -3 )

He would have won last time if not for Hillary and the DNC screwing him. I’m quite sure that will happen again as nothing had changed on the Dem side.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

I want to say that JT looked for the worst possible picture of Sanders like they do for Trump, but I'm afraid that Sanders really does look like an old man yelling 'Get off my lawn!!'.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

I’m tired of him and his followers claiming the high ground while completely denying that they served as handmaidens to trump and all the awfulness he has brought.

Please elaborate how folks like me are handmaidens to Trump. Is it b/c I studied Russian in college? Or b/c as awful as a candidate as HRC was that I still voted for her in the general?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

AOC NOW!

-9 ( +0 / -9 )

Sanders is too old. Sorry but the country needs someone younger. And someone with merits other than not being like Trump. Someone capable of repairing the damage that he has caused, yet capable of advancing the correct things he has done. It's a tall order.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

Sanders says he's running for president in 2020

Yatta!!!!

Even though I'm not American, I'm still a Bernie Bro! GO Bernie!!

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

Blacklabel

He would have won last time if not for Hillary and the DNC screwing him. I’m quite sure that will happen again as nothing had changed on the Dem side.

I don't usually agree with you sir, but you are 100% correct on this

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Heh-Heh- Hopefully the DNC won’t stab him in the back this time. But hey, the democrats have swung so far Left after their embarrassing defeat to Trump 2016.

So far Left that most candidates support his socialist policies. Wonder if Biden will enter race, shake things up even more.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

Sanders is too old. Sorry but the country needs someone younger. And someone with merits other than not being like Trump.

Reductive much? Sanders' only merit is that he's not Trump? How is that uniquely true of Sanders, as opposed to Bill Weld, Joe Biden, Howard Schultz? Some 60 to 70 million Americans will vote for the Democratic nominee next year and I can bet you the principal merit in their eyes will be that that nominee is "not being like Trump."

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Each Dem candidate is going to have to attack all the others to get attention. So by time it’s done I imagine most of the voters who wanted the losers will stay home.

Dems should really just have a meeting, pick who they already know they want to win and move forward with one candidate from now. It’s not like they are gonna let the people pick the candidate, right?

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

jcapanToday  08:57 am JST

Sanders is too old. Sorry but the country needs someone younger. And someone with merits other than not being like Trump.

Reductive much? Sanders' only merit is that he's not Trump? How is that uniquely true of Sanders,

No one said that was unique to Sanders. It refers to someone younger, whoever that may be.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

@kestrel

AOC NOW!

I guess you must have missed this...

As has been pointed out time and time again, Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez is not running for President. In fact, she is still 6 years too young to even be eligible for running for President, so at a minimum, you'd have to wait until 2028 for this inane attempt at a non-sequitir to make any sense at all.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

I like Sanders and think what happened to him in 2016 was awful although it also kind of paved the wave for a new generation of Democrats. I think the best he can do is endorse a younger candidate whose views align with his and can help mentor. His time has passed.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

most people commenting on emotion not logic, fact is you need votes to win and Bernie according to polls would get the most votes. The "too old" is said by people who support Biden who is the same age as Bernie. Facts over emotion please....

0 ( +3 / -3 )

I wonder if CNN will be giving the debate questions to Senator Sander's opponents again?

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Surely there is someone not in their dotage who is willing to be a candidate?

4 ( +6 / -2 )

I don't usually agree with you sir, but you are 100% correct on this

Aly, at least half of the comments so far are from Trump supporters. They don't have any love for Bernie. They wouldn't have voted for him in 2016 and they won't be voting in and Democratic primary next year either. They're simply stirring the pot, hoping to exploit real divisions in the party.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

He does a good Larry David impression.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

As much as I like Bernie, I will always maintain that the world must not be run by those who have no stake in its future.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

I'm reading all the posts in Bernie's voice. It's hilarious!

2 ( +4 / -2 )

"Our campaign is not only about defeating Donald Trump,"

It's also about destroying the United States.

Sanders lost all credibility when he supported Hillary after she and the DNC stole the nomination from him.

Plus... America will never be a socialist country.

-3 ( +6 / -9 )

@PerformingMonkey

As much as I like Bernie, I will always maintain that the world must not be run by those who have no stake in its future.

At what age does one begin to have a stake in the future and when does one no longer have a stake? I’ve always assumed in the latter case it meant upon dying.

And what about having a stake in the present?

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Wolfpack, you hush now!

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Sanders is too old. Sorry but the country needs someone younger.

Congress needs to pass an emergency Constitutional amendment and let AOC run!

AOC/McCabe 2020!

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

@jcapan

They're simply stirring the pot, hoping to exploit real divisions in the party.

Free speech is sometimes rather inconvenient, ain’t it?

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Plus... America will never be a socialist country.

It will always be a socialist country for the rich.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

AOC/McCabe 2020!

“Emergency Constitutional amendment”?

Right!

O’Rourke/Waters 2020!

Bernie is the ultimate limousine liberal. He has a nice, cushy gig on Capitol Hill, he makes oodles of dough, and he has the nerve to lecture working people , who've actually earned their money, about why they should turn it over to govt hacks like him.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

Go Bernie!

Bernie's power is derived from his supporters and the popularity of his platform. I honestly believe that he is one of the few politicians more motivated by altruism(real public service) than by power.

The establishment and wealthy (both Dems and Republicans) fear him because of his platform which puts the needs and interests of the great majority of people in the country over a tiny percentage of oligarchs now running the country.

According to a recent Harvard-Harris survey he is the most popular American politician by far, enjoying support from 58% of women, 55% of men, 62% of young voters between 18-34, 73% of African-Americans, 68% of of Hispanics, 62% of Asian-Americans, 52% of whites, 80% of Democrats.

He has been speaking out, consistently and rightfully, throughout his political career on issues of class and inequality, top vs bottom, not just right vs left, or Dem vs Republican, which has been the only acceptable discourse for so long - and only serves to divide us.

The oligarchs controlling the media will do everything in their power to paint a negative picture and to pull the rug out from under him and his supporters (see the AP photo chosen for this article for a good example), but I believe that people are beginning to see through this . If beating Trump in the next election is the goal he is the one who can do it. Beyond that, his policies on healthcare, education, climate change are what the country(and world) needs now.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Heh, I always chuckle a little watching the defamation campaigns begin as soon Democrat announces they are running.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

Should be a fun field with the old guys Biden and Sanders mixing it up with the others. But my guess is the winner will be someone who comes out of nowhere.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Strangerland, you have lots of laughs ahead.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

@Kestrel

Bernie is the ultimate limousine liberal. He has a nice, cushy gig on Capitol Hill, he makes oodles of dough, and he has the nerve to lecture working people , who've actually earned their money, about why they should turn it over to govt hacks like him.

I think his wife did most of the capitalistic heavy lifting. The traditional role of women.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

So a geriatric socialist who lost to the worst candidate in history, Clinton, who lost to Trump wants to face Trump...

0 ( +5 / -5 )

He looks too old. He's been looking old for decades.

One thing that certainly doesn't help his case is all that dandruff on his collar.

I don't like him, but if he chooses Tulsi Gabbard as a running mate, why not?

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

It seems like a lot of people underestimate the 2020 elections. Which is fine, it'll be a shocker when Trump loses for his base. I expect some sort of retaliation from Trump if he loses as well. Perhaps another national emergency or something.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Bernie is the ultimate limousine liberal. He has a nice, cushy gig on Capitol Hill, he makes oodles of dough, and he has the nerve to lecture working people , who've actually earned their money, about why they should turn it over to govt hacks like him.

Respect for public service is a foundation of democracy. Your opinion comes off more like what the fascists and dictators would push.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

Strangerland, you have lots of laughs ahead.

I expect so!

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Bernie was awesome in 2016, but if he won in 2020, he’d be in his upper 80s after two terms. If he lasts that long.

I hate to say it, but I think he’s too old.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Congress needs to pass an emergency Constitutional amendment and let AOC run!

If not allowing her to run for President, then Vice-President.

A "Bernie/AOC" ticket running on the Green New Deal platform would be the Demo-Socialists dream team.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

@Raw Beer

I don't like him, but if he chooses Tulsi Gabbard as a running mate, why not?

Tulsi Gabbard. Brilliant! A newer and fresher face than AOC. But, can she dance? Bernie, a.k.a. Not-Hillary (as he was the only Dem who tried to face down HRC), will need an energetic younger person at his side.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

None of the declared Democratic candidates, including Bernie Sanders, have offered economic policy proposals that can surpass President Trump's booming economy echievments. Also, all of them continue to cling to failed, divisive and racist identify politics. I don't see any of them winning over middle America nor the working class who have benefitted under Trump.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

@Deadforgood

It seems like a lot of people underestimate the 2020 elections. Which is fine, it'll be a shocker when Trump loses for his base. I expect some sort of retaliation from Trump if he loses as well. Perhaps another national emergency or something.

Why not? How long will the new RESISTANCE poke the winner in the ribs and demand her impeachment based on imaginary Russian collusion and mental instability?

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Great, he’s going to lose hands down.

0 ( +7 / -7 )

A "Bernie/AOC" ticket running on the Green New Deal platform would be the Demo-Socialists dream team.

It's too late. Within 6 months AOC backed by the deep state, Orcs, Borg and Spectre will rule the world. They WANT Trump to build the wall. They're taking away your airplanes so you can't fly over it. Trump's just their tool. Deal with it!

0 ( +1 / -1 )

working class who have benefitted under Trump.

Who dat? Nobody I know has benefitted under Trump yet...

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Nobody I know has benefitted under Trump yet...

Except for the 4 million people who have jobs created under his 2 years in office.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Sanders out-far lefts all the Dem candidates with the possible exception of Kamala. Yet he might actually win the primaries if Biden doesn't get in. Or if Hillary decides to make it 0-3.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Sanders running for president is like Jeffery Dahmer working for Gordon Ramsay.

Not gonna happen!

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Nobody I know has benefitted under Trump yet..

You don't know very many people, do you?

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Aly, at least half of the comments so far are from Trump supporters. They don't have any love for Bernie. They wouldn't have voted for him in 2016 and they won't be voting in and Democratic primary next year either. They're simply stirring the pot, hoping to exploit real divisions in the party.

I know jc, and that's ok. Let them. If they succeed it would be our fault not theirs. Everyone tries to support their side and candidate and that's ok. Having lived in some places including syria, where as a kid I was told to shut up before the whole family got arrested for something seemingly innocent I said, I can appreciate the discourse between both sides, but I try not to get too involved as I'm not an american and it can be a headache.

However, let me say this: I am a liberal and supported Bernie Sanders (in my heart).

I do have a confession to make:

When Trump first won, I was secretly happy for a day or two. I wanted him to win, because I was so FURIOUS at how the Dems and Hillary treated Bernie. I felt it was like she stole the democratic nomination, which was insane considering that was exactly what we in the democratic camp were accusing Bush of doing in 2000; stealing the election from Gore. When Sanders finally bowed out, I personally felt that the liberal establishment had failed the people and had lied to them. The conservatives got it right when they said Hillary stole the nomination from Bernie. Anyone who wantsto know how that happened in detail can just watch Michael Moore's newest documentary 11/9. Explains it perfectly.

The liberal establishment lost its moral compass that night Bernie bowed out of the election, and personally, I believe that was what cost Clinton the election. I think she was doomed like the Challenger disaster the minute Bernie gave up. But here is the really sad thing:

If the conservatives ever steal the election again, how can the liberal establishment ever claim the moral high ground after what Clinton and Debbie Schultz did to Bernie?

That's the biggest loss to the liberal establishment: their credibility.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

None of the declared Democratic candidates, including Bernie Sanders, have offered economic policy proposals that can surpass President Trump's booming economy echievments.

But consecutive Democratic presidents have left the country in a positive financial state, while consecutive Republican presidents have left the country worse off.

You people need to stop pretending you have any clue whatsoever about how to effectively manage an economy, or that you care one whit about fiscal responsibility. You have zero credibility on this matter. Basically, the only reply to any such comments from you guys should be: "but you guys".

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Except for the 4 million people who have jobs created under his 2 years in office.

Yes, most of it is coal mining and manufacturing. So the mid-west and flyover states, where his base originated. He's done a good job of this by cutting foreign relationships, trade wars, and undermining environmental scientists. Will that be enough? He lost popular vote last time, and he's losing support from the electoral college now, and he barely got through that.

Why not? How long will the new RESISTANCE poke the winner in the ribs and demand her impeachment based on imaginary Russian collusion and mental instability?

Hmm, most of the Trump supporters on here also take jabs at the left as well. Wasn't Trump's campaign based on imaginary claims and hounding the government to "lock her up"? I don't see what your point is, other to show your partisanship and lack of critical thinking...

1 ( +3 / -2 )

You don't know very many people, do you?

I know lots of people, I don't know any coal miners though. Sorry.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

I'm not sure why Trump supporters continue to call it a "resistance". It's simply difference in political and moral ideals, which gave us a two-party system. You guys sound like you are stuck in some strange fantasy world and don't truly understand the government. Countries ruled by a dictator have a "resistance". I don't think Trump is a dictator, btw. Just a bad leader. This stuffs been going on for ever, and its suddenly a "resistance" because you have gone so far right that you begin to unconsciously spout words you read on the blaze or whatever other alt-right material you're hooked on today. Your biggest threat is to continue demonizing the left with silly made up ideas.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Who dat? Nobody I know has benefitted under Trump yet...

I know plenty of people that did and know 7 that left CA and 2 that left NY because of the high taxation of the socialists to move to a more Trump friendly and lower tax state.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

The Dem presidential hopeful lineup is a cluster****.

We need Hillary to ride to the rescue!

You sound worried, like you feel that she might be the one to give Trump a chance in 2020 or something.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

@Deadforgood

I'm not sure why Trump supporters continue to call it a "resistance"

It might be because those people who couldn’t bring themselves to accept the results of the 2016 election immediately declared “resistance” against the new administration. It is an anti-Trump term. If you are tired of hearing it, please complain to those people who initiated its use.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

That's Burnie Sanders in a nutshell. You rhink I'm voting for that--yeah right.

Yeah. It’s not like his ideas have ever worked in any other countries right? ...Right?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

His first election was stolen from him. In a year where no one was particularly happy about any of the candidates running on the Democrat and Republican side, the one person most people had in common that they liked was Bernie Sanders. That election year was the first time that no one particularly cared about any candidate. The most interesting candidate for President was "Deez Nuts." He garnered more votes and interest than most of the other candidates and he wasn't even real.

In every preliminary poll, Sanders beat Trump and other Republican candidates by a landslide. With Hilary it was always neck and neck. However, the Democrats were too focused on "making history" and not actually winning a campaign that they let an almost sure things get away from them.

The 2016 Election changed my entire opinion about the Democratic party.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Sorry the Democratic party needs new blood, someone younger and with more energy and ideas, not someone that if elected, would be the oldest U.S. President in history. I'd rather have that young congresswoman from New York.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

@oldman

i completely agree with you. At 80 years old we don’t know how long he can continue to be of sound mind and body. I think it would be a waste of money to get behind him. While he may have the potential to do big things, we have to weigh his age and the potential downsides of losing a President while in office.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I'm afraid that Sanders really does look like an old man yelling 'Get off my lawn!!'.

Harsh -and funny- but fair. Reckon he made a very selfish decision here.

Endorsing another candidate this early would have been a great PR coup, especially when you're facing a textbook narcissist like Trump.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

In announcing his 2020 presidential bid Bernie Sanders said: “Our campaign is about redoubling our efforts to end racism, sexism, homophobia, religious bigotry and all forms of discrimination,”

Sadly, Mr. Sanders has embraced the failed racist (against whites), misandrist (against men) anti religious, pro LGBTQ and illegal immigrant at the expense of everyone else, identity policies of the Democratic Party. How do they expect to win elections when they display open hate for and lack of concern for half the country?

It is shocking that such blatant racism and anti-religious bigotry is displayed so brazenly in political discourse in this day and age.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

I'm not sure why Trump supporters continue to call it a "resistance".

Because that's what the democratic Party has become.

I'd rather have that young congresswoman from New York.

With her looney Green New Deal even Pelosi isn't signing onto and most economists say is unrealistic?

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

It's morally, ehtically, and every kind of wrong; it's thievery; it demotivates people to work, (ironically) alienates us from human nature, and crumbles economies

Yes, healthcare and proactively trying to clean up the environment is every kind of wrong. It helps encourage a kinder society, where people don't have to live their entire lives worrying about if they can pay for their meds. It creates cleaner foods, and healthier cities where people can save money by using public transportation and eating cheaper, healthier foods. But you live in Japan, where none of that exists and you are extremely happy that it doesn't, right? Oh, wait...

1 ( +3 / -2 )

How do they expect to win elections when they display open hate for and lack of concern for half the country?

Have you checked out Trump's twitter recently? Or listened to any of his speeches in the past 3 years? Exactly what you've described here. Trump thrives off identity politics and demonizing others as much as the dems do, you all know that. It just makes you feel better to say its only the democrats doing so.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Unfortunately not Bernie, nor other running for president understands the main priority needed... The minimum wage of $15 is way not enough. The highest paid in a US company are about 250 times paid more than the lowest paid. Must be a law limiting this ratio to only about 10. That would solve lots and lots of problems. The lowest paid in companies are paid miserable and treated worse than slaves. In Germany and Japan this ratio is about 10-11. Unfortunately the present politicians are very slow thinking... Let's get rid of useless politicians and let's elect smart ones...

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Trump thrives off identity politics and demonizing others as much as the dems do, you all know that. It just makes you feel better to say its only the democrats doing so.

What are you talking about? For Democrats identity politics is everything, what race what color with ethnicity, gender politics what race are you you can select from 12 different choices. I’m running for president Thomas without a doubt I’m going to pick a female VP. Democrats live in Paris for identity and gender politics as well as racism that is the clear narrative that they continuously push on a day today basis

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

They're simply stirring the pot, hoping to exploit real divisions in the party.

Actually the DOC did that by giving Hillary all the questions before the debates with Bernie, scheduling the debates during football games when they knew nobody would watch so Hillary would not look bad and finally by giving her all the Superdelagate votes before the primaries started.....and then they got caught! All of this despite the fact that Bernie was polling as 20% more popular than Hillary. The Dems wanted H more than they wanted a President...

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Reagan was 78. Not too old? In any case the Dems want a black woman over a white man to cover more demographics and "make history" they will fix it for Harris and she will lose to Trump like H did because Bernie supporters won't vote for her. I see it already....

2 ( +3 / -1 )

As much as I want everyone to have healthcare, healthcare itself is not a right. Doctors have acquired a specialized skill through years of dedicated study. They exchange their services for money. They have a right to do this. You do not havea right to force them to use their skills for whatever price you think is right. Japan has cheaper healthcare because it's some shining example that socialist healthcare works. People in Japan pay for the services out their own pockets; they go right downstairs to the cashier and pay 30%. The rest is covered from the monthly fees they pay into the system. In America, the person recieving the healthcare isn't footing the bill. Prices are sky high and every one is skimming off the top. Americans think they shouldn't have to pay for the services of a doctor. And now Bernie Sanders is saying they don't. And rhat just means prices will go even higher. Doctors dont care, insurance companies don't care, the recipient doesn't care because no one is paying. Charge what ever you want. We'll just raise taxes to cover the costs.

You sarcastically argues that "It’s not like his ideas have ever worked in any other countries right? ...Right?" but then agree that it works. But still condemn it for America, because, it's..."socialism"!! Ooh scarrry. Btw, doctors make far less in Japan than they do in America. Even with their specialized skills acquired through years of dedicated study. You must be glad you get to enjoy socialist ideals while complaining about it to others cause you don't want Americans to have it.

Yea, I agree. Dems shot themselves in the foot with that one. I guess bernie is pretty old but he seems to be active and up for it, otherwise he probably wouldn't have jumped on board. I'm not so sure they are gonna give it to Harris though, she doesn't seem that popular to be honest, its possible though I guess.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Let them. If they succeed it would be our fault not theirs.

Exactly.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

I love Bernie, but in my opinion, his age is a disqualifying factor.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Here's an example of liberal racism/ misandry towards white males. This is an absolutely disgraceful attitude which Bernie Sanders and other Democrats turn a blind eye to and even promote and perpetuate.

https://youtu.be/0zjzZKy874o

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Even if he doesn't succeed, it will be his policies and his ideas that reshape the Democratic party so that he'll either win in 2020 or another Dem will. It would be nice if he did though, since he started this round going. Still has an actual brain and is healthier than most on this forum. Then AOC in 2024. Looks like 8 years in the making to change the USA away from its Nazi present to finally enable social democracy

0 ( +2 / -2 )

While I find some of his proposals financially unrealistic, few people care as deeply for the American working class as Bernie Sanders does. And his age doesn't bother me at all; he was seen sprinting for the subway with a vigor that many people two decades younger than he is don't have!

2 ( +3 / -1 )

The minimum wage of $15 is way not enough

Most high schoolers doing part time work don't need that much, and having to pay $15 for non-skilled workers would bankrupt a lot of companies. For the people who need to make a living wage they have to get the skills/qualifications to get the higher paid jobs. Does this not make sense?

I love Bernie, but in my opinion, his age is a disqualifying factor.

Heck, 85 year old Ruth Bader Ginsberg is still serving on the Supreme Court. Just barely though...

( Sanders ) Still has an actual brain

Bernie's brain capacity is about one- one millionth of Trump's.

The DNC will end up nominating either Kamala or Joe, and then it's gonna be

Sit.....stay .... roll over... Good Bernie!!!

Unless... oh my...

Hillary Clinton remains the Democrats best chance to defeat Trump in 2020

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Yeah. It’s not like his ideas have ever worked in any other countries right? ...Right?

It's morally, ehtically, and every kind of wrong; it's thievery; it demotivates people to work, (ironically) alienates us from human nature, and crumbles economies.

Sanders looks towards the Scandinavian ideas.

They seem to do okay. They outstrip pretty much everyone on the metrics that matter.

Not much crumbling.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Bernie's brain capacity is about one- one millionth of Trump's.

Trump’s brain capacity must be enormous. Why doesn’t he fill it with things that matter? He sounds like a gibbering moron when speaking on vital issues. I don’t know what is taking up the space. His enormous vocabulary?

Sanders spunds pretty good when speaking at length. You can disagree with what he says, but he sounds reasonably informed.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

He ( Trump ) sounds like a gibbering moron when speaking on vital issues

No, he doesn't.

You can disagree with what he says, but he ( Sanders ) sounds reasonably informed.

He doesn't sound too informed on how we're going to pay for Medicare ( gov't run healthcare - ugh ) for all, and free college education for all. Eventually you run out of other people's money.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Bernie Sanders/Democratic Party policies I support are:

1: $15/hr minimum wage. Australia is an example of such a minimum wage working well. (approx $US13.50/hr)

2: Single payer health care. It works well in Japan.

These would have to be introduced slowly in order for industry/society to adjust. If these work well elsewhere why not in the U.S.?

Unfortunately Republicans generally don't value what works in other nations and are too frightened of anything that remotely resembles socialism or big govt to agree to any of these. Sad.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

It's morally, ehtically, and every kind of wrong; it's thievery; it demotivates people to work, (ironically) alienates us from human nature, and crumbles economies.

You do realize we live in reality, and can see other countries that do what Bernie wants to, right? Then why are people in countries that do these things rate so much higher on the happiness index than America? And why are they not a mess politically like America?

1 ( +3 / -2 )

He ( Trump ) sounds like a gibbering moron when speaking on vital issues

.

No, he doesn't

You look at our air and our water and it’s right now at a record clean. But when you look at China and you look at parts of Asia and when you look at South America, and when you look at many other places in this world, including Russia, including — just many other places — the air is incredibly dirty. And when you’re talking about an atmosphere, oceans are very small. And it blows over and it sails over. I mean, we take thousands of tons of garbage off our beaches all the time that comes over from Asia. It just flows right down the Pacific, it flows, and we say where does this come from. And it takes many people to start off with.

Oh, and here's another gem:

if you go back and if you look at articles, they talked about global freezing, they talked about at some point the planets could have freeze to death, then it’s going to die of heat exhaustion. There is movement in the atmosphere. There’s no question. As to whether or not it’s man-made and whether or not the effects that you’re talking about are there, I don’t see it — not nearly like it is. Do we want clean water? Absolutely. Do we want clean air to breathe? Absolutely. The fire in California, where I was, if you looked at the floor, the floor of the fire they have trees that were fallen, they did no forest management, no forest maintenance, and you can light — you can take a match like this and light a tree trunk when that thing is laying there for more than 14 or 15 months. And it’s a massive problem in California.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Bernie Sanders/Democratic Party policies I support are:

Nice to see you're open minded about these things.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Sanders looks towards the Scandinavian ideas.

Good for them. They can keep their entitlements, I don’t want my country to be another Sweden! if I want to be like Sweden I will move there.

They seem to do okay. They outstrip pretty much everyone on the metrics that matter.

Not much crumbling.

They can keep it, they have 8 million people and they love to pay taxes, most Americans don’t want to pay the higher amount of taxes, especially when the incomes are that low and the funny thing about socialist liberals and the way they think is, how are they going to pay for all of this?

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

how are they going to pay for all of this?

Print money!

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

@Strangerland

It's a matter of what policies work/will work for the overall benefit of the average citizen no matter who proposes them.

Nice to see you're open minded about these things.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Does anyone have a big hook to yank Bernie off the stage? He helped get us in the mess we're in today. Prediction: Bernie will burn-out before the primaries. Let's hope he doesn't hang around criticizing the candidate like he did in 2016. Spoiler.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

How exactly did Sanders help get us in this horrible situation where we have an arse monkey for a president? We can blame that on Hillary andthe electoral college.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Mahathir Mohamad, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, is 93 and no slouch, even if he has forgotten more than Trump ever knew. Bernie, too, still has his marbles, more than the dotard Donny ever had, and despite having to deal again with stiff opposition from the Democratic right wing, at least he won't have to worry about any challenge from the mentally unstable Donald who won't even be a contender after he's been given the bum's rush out of the Oval office under the 25th Amendment.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

While your analysis of Mahathir's mental health is correct, it must be said that he's no angel.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Bernie, too, still has his marbles, more than the dotard Donny ever had

Bernie just walked into a room with a bag of checkers but Trump only plays chess.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Sanders looks towards the Scandinavian ideas.

They seem to do okay. They outstrip pretty much everyone on the metrics that matter.

Not much crumbling.

They also do not have 10 to 12 million people living there illegally.

While Japan worries about 106 foreigners disappearing off cruise ships.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

They seem to do okay. They outstrip pretty much everyone on the metrics that matter.

Not much crumbling.

They can keep it, they have 8 million people and they love to pay taxes

No, Bass. They don’t love to pay taxes. They pay taxes to support the system which delivers very impressive results. The levels of transparency are high which is vital in a system like this. These people aren’t idiots handing over taxes to clowns wasting it on a socialist military.

You may not like this system but the support for Sanders and his ideas was extremely impressive.

He probably would have beaten Trump in 2016 if he’d got the nomination.

Bernie just walked into a room with a bag of checkers but Trump only plays chess.

You mean like his 4D chess game on the wall? He got spanked and sent to the corner of the room with a D on his cap for trying to eat the pieces.

Drop the chess analogy. Chess is a game for strategists. Trump and his team spend most of their time trying to make sense of or spin his latest outburst.

Declaring an emergency and then saying you didn’t need to do it isn’t the type of mind that plays chess well.

Putin would destroy Trump at chess and not just because he’s a Russian.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

bass: how are they going to pay for all of this?

The same way Republicans increase military spending by $70 billion. We borrow more. Trump and the GOP will have a trillion dollar deficit next year. Once again we will have to elect a Democrat to lower that just like Obama had to.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Sanders looks towards the Scandinavian ideas.

Scandinavia? Nice place. Beautiful scenery. People nice enough when they get talking.. Lapin Kulta drinkable. But only a small appendage of the world economy. I’d rather the Bernster point to a really big economy and tell me how the US can implement a similar socio-economic system.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

I’d rather the Bernster point to a really big economy and tell me how the US can implement a similar socio-economic system.

It’s the experimental nature of his plans - or is it still in the idea stage? - that worry me.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

@Strangerland

Thanks for this:

And it’s a massive problem in California.

I used to work in the sales department of my company and giving presentations was part of my job. If my boss had heard me speaking like this in the Q&A, I’d have been drug tested and carted off to a department where I could be kept away from the public as much as possible.

That revolting series of brain farts from Trump barely qualifies as English.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

It's a matter of what policies work/will work for the overall benefit of the average citizen no matter who proposes them.

We're in agreement on that.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

It’s the experimental nature of his plans - or is it still in the idea stage? - that worry me.

Yeah, it's not like any other country in the world has done this, right?

... Right?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

I think Mr. Back to the Future Prexy candidate have a chance against Donald the 'brute' wonder boy!

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

I know plenty of people that did and know 7 that left CA and 2 that left NY because of the high taxation of the socialists to move to a more Trump friendly and lower tax state.

I know 14 that moved to CA, and 4 who moved to NY, so the net balance is in their favor, which is very clear proof that CA and NY are better than anywhere in America.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Yeah, it's not like any other country in the world has done this, right?

... Right?

Other country? ... other country? Hmmm... an experiment... let’s see ... a country of at least 250-300 million people ... with a highly developed industrial economy ... changing its system... No, not post-Czarist Russia or post-war China - the economic base of both were much lower than the present USA.

I give up. What other country did you have in mind?

I hope you don’t mean the Soviet Union or mainland China? In their experiments they broke a lot of eggs trying to make an omelette that just didn’t come out.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

I know 14 that moved to CA, and 4 who moved to NY, so the net balance is in their favor, which is very clear proof that CA and NY are better than anywhere in America.

Having grown up in California and left, I can say for certain, California is far from the better than anywhere else in America. If you are of a certain mindset, then sure it will be better for you, but California has plenty of it's own huge problems.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

By all means, Bernie, try again. Trumps new slogan will be Make Democrats Cry Again.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

haha, Bernie probably needs new house , 2 not enough to house all of them refugees he wants helping ?

but seriously this should be well funny, it will be even funnier if he gets another trick from his own party ...

I dont actually dislike the guy, he has good intentions in heart but he does nothing to show he is real ..and playing on taxes and poor people doesnt actually sit well when you got two big houses.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

If he were ten or fifteen years younger, I would find it easier to jump on the bandwagon.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I think Mr. Back to the Future Prexy candidate have a chance against Donald the 'brute' wonder boy!

Har! He does kinda look like Doc, doesn't he! He indeed does have a chance against Donald - that of a snowball's in hell. he might have come close in 2016 if the Dems had nominated him, but not now.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Not going to bother reading the 140+ responses of dems bickering with reps. But i just hope that there is a sensible moderate choice in the next election. Too far either way (to the right with trump, or the left with Bernie) causes rifts and is dividing the nation. Despite all the arguments, in the end, as humans we want the same thing. Even die-hard MAGAs want to reduce gun violence. Even 'socialist' Bernie supporters want to feel safe and reduce terrorism/drug crime.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Bernie will not make it. The MAJORITY of Americans do not want his Socialist ideas and will NOT accept the price we would have to pay for all the Free Stuff he wants to give. Also, we Americans by our very nature will never become socialist, communist, or some other failed government and certainly will not accept a government like China, nKorea, Russia, or even Japan or The UK.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Honestly Carl, you should all just surrender to Russia... Putin will know how to control both.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The same way Republicans increase military spending by $70 billion.

Yes, I prefer the most advanced military over the increased threats of China, Iran and Russia. Socialism won’t protect us and neither will 70s and 80s technology. These countries would love nothing more than to have a Marxist in the WH.

We borrow more. Trump and the GOP will have a trillion dollar deficit next year. Once again we will have to elect a Democrat to lower that just like Obama had to.

And then we will have to elect a conservative to bring up the GDP since the Democrats only know how to distribute it and not create it the way Trump is doing.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

bass: Yes, I prefer the most advanced military over the increased threats of China, Iran and Russia.

I like that, too. But I also like seeing people get healthcare without going bankrupt or simply dying without it. Maybe neither is a crazy idea.

Socialism won’t protect us

Neither will fascism.

And then we will have to elect a conservative to bring up the GDP since the Democrats only know how to distribute it and not create it the way Trump is doing.

Nearly all new wealth in the US goes to the top 20%, and most of that goes to the top 10%. I like a good stock market because it helps me personally, but only 16% of Americans own stock. The stock market could double but as long as wages stay flat all of the gains are going to a few people. Most American workers said they did not see an increase in pay last year despite all of these awesome gains you talk about.

Where is the money going?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

I like that, too. But I also like seeing people get healthcare without going bankrupt or simply dying without it. Maybe neither is a crazy idea.

I agree, but I don’t think eradicating the private healthcare system is the way. When I go the States I enjoy my healthcare.

Neither will fascism

Then liberals should give up socialism.

Nearly all new wealth in the US goes to the top 20%, and most of that goes to the top 10%.

Then you guys should go to Silicons Valley and take your grievance out on them.

I like a good stock market because it helps me personally, but only 16% of Americans own stock. The stock market could double but as long as wages stay flat all of the gains are going to a few people. Most American workers said they did not see an increase in pay last year despite all of these awesome gains you talk about. *

That should increase by next year, but more importantly, how do liberals grow small businesses and strengthen the middleclass? The way they want to tax people there won’t be a middle class left with their income redistribution clutches. Traditional Hard work does pay.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Yes, I prefer the most advanced military over the increased threats of China, Iran and Russia. Socialism won’t protect us and neither will 70s and 80s technology.

So to use your logic, you love paying taxes and you love socialism. You just don’t like it when the democrats do things that you love.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

you love paying LOW taxes and you love patriotism.

You just don’t like it when the democrats do things that you love.

No, I don’t want the Democrats telling me which doctor I can see, how much money I can make, where I can work, what I and drive. What money I could eat or how I should live or how I should call or a address people or accept that killing full term babies is an ok thing...just to scratch the surface.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Bass I’m not a member of the Democratic Party, but I am going to tell you not to eat money

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Nobody I know has benefitted under Trump yet..

You don't know very many people, do you?

Ah, Serrano, you mean all of those people who just realized that they had no tax refunds and are pissed as hell? Or all those farmers going bankrupt? Heard the GOP South Dakaota governor had some harsh words for Trump as that state is dying due to that Brilliant trade war of Trump. I could go on and on about all of these people winning because of trump.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

bs ain't running. The best he can do is walk.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Looking forward to recycling my black “Bernie 2016” t-shirt. I think red, my favorite color, was sold out.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The photo is great. His face is exactly like in the SOTU address when the Trump said "we will never be a socialist country", and the camera turned to him. Sound blurb: "Grrrrrrr...."
