South Koreans seemed to have long prided themselves on not resorting to intensive lockdowns. Things may have to change with this surge in infections.

[ From Monday, rapid antigen tests at emergency rooms, intensive care units and remote hospitals will be covered by the national health insurance, which would cost recipients about 8,000 won ($7) each. ]

Yes, not taking advantage to profit from the pandemic is the more proper approach.

Korea is performing 86,742~ a day.

960 positives look tinny in comparison.

What do you think will happen if Japan ever does 86,000+ test in a day?

They will blame either Chinese or Japanese for rising the infection. I believed this after finding out on YT.

There was a very popular South Korean Prankster who was liked by Korean themselves but one prank was made so disrespectful during the beginning of Covid-19. Since then every Koreans started saying he is Chinese or Japanese. Obviously most foreigners start to believe like 'is it?' 'oh i didn't know' when he is neither Chinese nor Jaoanese. That Korean guy is in jail.

S. Korea tested 29,957 (28,647+950) with 3.2% positives (950) on December 12, 2020.

Sorry to say, but many Japanese say the same thing about Koreans, especially on the internet. They call whoever they are bashing a Korean.

You say that as if testing around twice what they are currently doing will somehow make the number of infections increase exponentially.

On 12/10 they tested 38,159 and had 2,948 positives. If they test more the percentage of positives will most likely decrease, since that means they will have to test more people with only light symptoms - more likely to be a regular cold. So I would say around 5,000 or less if they tested 86,000. Not a huge number considering Japan's population size and the fact that they didn't contain the virus a much as Korea all along.

Btw, where did you get 86,000 for Korea? Google says they are testing less than Japan. Couldn't find any other data. I assume they will or have already ramped up the testing, but Japan has also already shown it can ramp up the testing when needed.

Korea (Seoul) is experiencing colder temperatures which allow the virus to survive longer on surfaces.

Japan will see more cases as the temperatures fall in turn here...

South Korea isn't doing that great, and neither is Japan, for that matter.

S Koreans should swallow some of their prickly pride - send emissaries to Taiwan and figure out what has made the Taiwanese such a model of excellence.

As for Japan, Asia's erstwhile model country, that you folks in East Asians once emulated; and even those of us from other parts of the developing world once looked up to as the model of excellence, perhaps Japan should now send a delegation to Hanoi and take notes on how the Vietnamese have done so well to contain this pathogen from Wuhan, China.

Sweet mother, Korea and Japan battling it out again in one form or another.

The PCR test is useless. Cannot differentiate between Live Infection or Old Fragments

of Cold and Flus. Cannot ! That is Fact. Cases means nothing. If you amplify the PCR Test enough

you are sure to get Positives.

Whoosh!
