And yet some deem the classification of gun violence as a public health emergency to be “idiotic.”

Yeah, that aged well.

On JT it's the daily report. More gun victims. National health problem according to the Surgeon General.

No, say the Republicans who oppose any new gun laws.

Whatever process they use to screen people for buying guns isn't working. In fact someone could be normally calm and docile the first 40 years of their life but they could have the potential to go crazy out of nowhere and just snap when having a bad day, there is literally no way to predict that

Sadly, just another day in one of the most dangerous countries on earth. You'd be out of your mind to visit.

Another mass gun massacre will happen within 2 days in the USA.

oh so now its the “shooter” and not “the gun”.

So the shooter is violent not the gun?

the lights might finally be coming on……

Guns are completely out of control; it's likely far too late to reverse the situation. It's akin to the Wild West out there.

3 ( +10 / -7 )

a violent society with more guns than people. what could go,wrong?

8 ( +12 / -4 )

Trying to introduce Gun Control in the US is impossible... specially with the Republicans love for gun money and their followers, many of them candidates for the Darwin Awards.

5 ( +10 / -5 )

Then what did you mean by your comment seemingly blaming the shooter not the gun?

did you slip and mess up the standard approved narrative?

-16 ( +1 / -17 )

@Blacklabel

May be you don't know.... but in this reality (world, dimension, universe) guns are inanimate and do not have consiousness nor are able to move by themselfves... for guns to move and function they need the intervention of someone with conciousness and able to move (yes even if a robot shoots the gun, someone (conscious living been) has to give the order.

So to controling guns equals controling those who are usign the guns... like cars, planes, drones, etc,

How many more people have to die before America stops handing out guns to any idiot who wants one?

Mental illness cannot be legislated. Guns can.

(almost) Any sentient being can grasp this including the 80% of Americans who want stricter regulations on guns.

Guns save more lives than they take. All the victims were probably not taking advantage of Nevada's open carry laws.

-15 ( +1 / -16 )

It used to be that 99% of all Americans would never see first hand an act of gun violence outside of War, now I think that number might be getting towards 98%. There are vast swaths of areas in the country where gun violence is extremely rare, but there are areas where it is a daily occurance. I've always had a large dislike of guns and would love to see the USA follow Australia's example but unfortunately it may take either something horrific or targeted to force change. I've said before, once politicians can no longer ensure the daily saftey of their loved ones, well then they may finally wake up and get to work.

Do you think 13 year old girls should be carrying guns?

14 ( +15 / -1 )

Guns save more lives than they take.

lol Yes, they save so many lives. That's why America, awash with guns, has so many more gun homicides than countries with strict gun control laws.

11 ( +12 / -1 )

The biggest problem in America its the mass shootings, that is why it's a dangerous country. There are people who would probably make excuses for the family and friends they have who own guns when you know they shouldn't because of mental reasons.

Guns save more lives than they take.

If guns don't kill people, how do they save people?

12 ( +14 / -2 )

Do you think 13 year old girls should be carrying guns?

Young girls need to take care of their own safety. Enough wolves out there.

That's why America, awash with guns, has so many more gun homicides than countries with strict gun control laws.

Not all countries with strict gun laws have low gun homicide rate. It's just a lack of awareness which makes folks spew out such blanket statements.

lack of awareness? lmao By and large countries with stricter gun laws fewer shootings.

What's wrong with those people there? Now they are already privileged living directly at the source of luck and wealth and could have spent altogether a splendid and entertaining night at one of the many available casinos, but what are they doing instead? Shooting around, killing others or themselves or at least run stupidly around in between bullets trajectories. I don't get it and maybe never will.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

More needless deaths, it’s so sad and upsetting. Why the hell are guns so readily available to almost any Tom Dick or Harry in the US?

-2 ( +6 / -8 )

Guns save more lives than they take. All the victims were probably not taking advantage of Nevada's open carry laws.

This is objectively, laughably, provably false.

In addition to mass shootings and crimes committed with guns, they are the most common form of suicide in the United States.

Moreover, people owning guns for home defense kill family members by mistake far more often than they ward off home invasions.

Add it all up and 40,167 Americans dies from guns in 2023 and that number was with 3 weeks left in the year.

On the other hand, the number of actual documented uses of guns in self-defense number in the low hundreds per year.

Not every American has the irresistible urge to want to shoot something, A LOT want to go their whole life without killing someone

Ahhh, the old far-right standby argument - "more guns make us safer since they'll be more good guys with guns than bad guys"...

Besides being factually and demonstrably false, there's a problem with that...

Why are privately owned guns banned from inside the upcoming RNC convention?

they are the most common form of suicide in the United States.

Yeah, because guns are the only way that a suicidal person will take his own life. And people don't commit suicides in countries with strict gun laws.

The fact is that two thirds of all gun deaths in the US are suicides, and they are included in the overall gun deaths to portray a picture that US has out of control gun crimes.

people owning guns for home defense kill family members by mistake far more often than they ward off home invasions.

That's not on the guns. With great power comes great responsibility, and a few irresponsible gun owners should not be made an example to prove points.

the number of actual documented uses of guns in self-defense number in the low hundreds per year.

Probably because no one messes with gun owners in the first place. Better to have one and not need it than to need one and not have it.

Yeah, because guns are the only way that a suicidal person will take his own life. And people don't commit suicides in countries with strict gun laws.

And people without access to guns in that moment are less likely to commit suicide Because the required planning and frankly the misnomer that suicide by a gun is always quick and painless makes it an easy choice for those caught in a bad moment where if they had more time, they might reconsider and or seek help.

people owning guns for home defense kill family members by mistake far more often than they ward off home invasions.

That's not on the guns. With great power comes great responsibility, and a few irresponsible gun owners should not be made an example to prove points.

And yet, by and large they don’t exercise responsibility. They just shoot dad coming home from one too many drinks at the pub or jr. sneaking in a window after curfew so he won’t get caught.

the number of actual documented uses of guns in self-defense number in the low hundreds per year.

Probably because no one messes with gun owners in the first place. Better to have one and not need it than to need one and not have it.

More likely because that is a fiction created by the NRA to gin up fear of the invading hordes. The fact is, there is no evidence to support that narrative.

And people without access to guns in that moment are less likely to commit suicide

The easiest way to commit suicide is by overdosing on sleeping pills. In my country the preferred option is drinking pesticides. Japan has a high suicide rate and strict gun laws. You are not really thinking things through are you?

by and large they don’t exercise responsibility

Yes, it's on the people not on the guns.

-11 ( +2 / -13 )

Using suicide numbers in gun death statistics IS disingenuous though.

Obviously.

especially when it is the vast majority of gun deaths.

-13 ( +1 / -14 )

Weird how you moved off of guns saving lives to highlight how they're increasingly used by people to take their own in the US.

Guns save lives of law abiding people. Those who wish to take lives, be it their own or of others, will find ways to carry out their intent. Not sure what's so hard to understand in my arguments.

Guns save lives of law abiding people

No they don't.

Not sure what's so hard to understand in my arguments.

Nothing, they're just nonsense. Where do you get this notion from the guns save lives? Certainly isn't true in the US.

Guns take more lives of law abiding individuals than it does of bad guys

11 ( +11 / -0 )

The idea that guns, in the aggregate save more lives in self-defense than they take in violent crime is just laughably false even discounting deaths by suicide.

Even removing self-harm as a proximate trigger, 14,000+ Americans died last year from gun violence. There is zero evidence, none, zip.zilch that anything like that number were “saved”.

It’s a fool’s idea of an “argument”.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

Guns take more lives of law abiding individuals than it does of bad guys

Only those law abiding people who are either unarmed out of choice or not allowed to arm themselves because of the draconian arms laws wherever they live.
