There are various news reports all put out around that same time, some saying  Gen. Shen Yi-ming is dead, and some saying he survived. Very confusing.

Shouldn't the title be "crash landing"?

Was it an Assassination carried out under order from the CCP ?

Given China’s tendency to interfere in others affairs (while going puce in the face and squealing if anyone even so much as mildly disagrees with anything they do) it does make you wonder?
