Those military divers are well-trained, even in dark caves

"Chiang Rai provincial Gov Narongsak Osatanakorn said the health of the boys and coach were checked using a field assessment in which red is critical condition, yellow is serious and green is stable.

"We found that most of the boys are in green condition," he said. "Maybe some of the boys have injuries or light injuries and would be categorized as yellow condition. But no one is in red condition."

This is great news. Thanks to all who helped save these lives.

That's a WC these kids will never forget. Glad they're all right. You're coming home, kids!

Apparently the British Cave Divers team came across them (well done Lads!), but we're not out of the woods yet. Hopefully no further rain for a while, otherwise matters may become complicated and yet more distressful for the Parents.

Read on another news site it could be two months before the they can walk out.....the other option is learn to scuba dive and swim out with rescuers. Wow, what a dilemma for a young kid. Learning to dive in turbid water, underground, in a cave? That or sit in that dark damp cave? Either option will test them immensely. Godspeed young fellas.

After being stuck in a cave full of snakes, I never go down.

Zichi

It's amazing in this day and age that they can't..... I suppose I have taken it for granted growing up in Aus, where every man and his dog learns from an early age.

Yeah I wonder if they can pump the water out or something? or drill a hole from the top somehow? sounds kind of dangerous for them to swim out....Well I hope the experts can figure something out.

Could be a long wait for the 13 in getting them out. I sincerely hope the Thai govt listens to the experts, rather than push for a glorious photo-op-laden rushed rescue.

Fantastic news. I am worried as to how they will get them out.

This is great news, although please keep in mind that while they are alive, there is still some way to go.

Have also dived caves in Thailand. Qualified cave diver, but not a cave rescue diver; though had experience of pulliing out other divers inadequately trained who panicked and froze inside on a long cave dive. Kids might be easier to get out as they have less fear and knowledge, but it will be a huge team effort. Lots of tanks of compressed air on standby along the route, heavy to lug around. Kudos to all taking part.

I was avoiding this story, mainly because I assumed the outlook was bleak after so many days, and I didn't want to be a consumer of tragedy porn.

This miracle has gotten me involved though. Amazing that they are all alive and relatively well after 10 days. I wonder what the coach did to keep their spirits up, when it must have seemed they were doomed to die there. They are not safe yet, but there is a great deal of hope now that they will be.

That is awesome, just freaking awesome. I hope they get the mental health care they will no doubt need in addition to the medical care they obviously need. All that time in the pitch black with no food or water and wondering if the water would rise too much for survival has to have had generated some PTSD. My thanks and admiration to all who helped find them....

This is great news! Hope that anyone who can help with getting them out safely is on site or on the way there.

Hopefully they can get them all out safely. Those kids will need some food and rest before learning how to cave dive in order to get out (if that is necessary).

Pukey2Today 07:23 am JSTOh this is wonderful news!!!!!! First, they need food and drinks, not a monk.

Don't knock the monk. He can get them food and drink or at least he can radio in for a medic to tend to them. Many monks, nuns, clergy of religions that matter are also skilled in tending to the sick, wounded and injured. Those people's roles are to tend to the needs of others - and not just spiritual matters either.

Anyway, I'm glad all 13 guys were found and rescued - alive and well. They're going to be alright now and that's some good news we all could use. I just hope this experience doesn't cause a PTSD reaction in the kids many years from now.
