we have been to the table with NK before, giving the beggars rice and money because they are not smart or capable enough to sustain their own economy. They have repeatedly stabbed us and others in the back. Time to be tough

Well let's see if the NORKS are willing to come to the table. First they need to make clear that their "nuclear and missile program" is negotiable.

I wish our brothers and sisters in the DPRK well in these tough times ahead. They are at the mercy of the whims of liars, bullies and weapons hawkers.

Coming to the table is the preferred option but can they really trust the duplicitous players involved?

The problem is Trump is basically correct in saying its a waste of time if N.K isn't willing to negotiate on its weapons, which they have stated, time and time again, they are not willing to do. Not willing to do that, basically means the U.S has to stay in South Korea forever, South Korea pursues similiar weapons and both the U.S and China do not get what they want. Have to keep in mind, China has repeatedly stated it wants a denuclearized North as well. On that, we are on the same page.

I fail to see how anything has changed at all, which is why this issue hasn't been resolved for decades.

they are just beggars who try to bark once in a while to get a hand out. In everyday life akin to a homeless person with a gun

If NK is willing to unilaterally give up their nukes and nuclear program immediately and permanently, then I support these talks, but the timeline has to be weeks, not months as they can continue to develop while talks drag on.

If not, unfortunately they will have to be destroyed. Enough is enough.

I would also support Japan developing their own arsenal of about 400 nukes as the international system has failed when it comes to NK and it cannot be relied upon with someone like Trump at the helm

other than achieving the release of American college student Otto Warmbier in

And they released him only when he was about to die.

The prank he comitted didn't deserve any of the ordeal that followed, which ultimately cost him his life. The videos of Otto confessing to the things NK forced him to can still be seen on youtube.

If NK gives up its nuclear programme it needs to be sure that China and possibly Russia have its back if the Americans pull their usual duplicitous stunt when they are no longer militarily scared by starting regime change shenanigans. Case in point: Libya. Never, ever, trust the American Imperium.

Old "Fire & Fury" wants to cut a deal? The author of "The Art of the Deal" has been nuked by "Rocket Man." Donnie has been cut off at his knees by the ruler of the Hermit Kingdom. "Make America Great Again" - a poor joke told by an overweight narcissist who has never mastered critical thinking and whose approval ratings continue to tank as the world laughs at President Blowhard.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

".....for 64 years.....U.S. presidents trying to demonstrate their resolve against North Korea's ever-escalating aggression."

More laughable war propaganda from the American new agency Associated Press.

America: the only country that has mass murdered civilians with nukes. Twice. As well as mass murdering innocent civilians throughout Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Iraq, Afghanistan etc.

Which country is being "aggressive" again?

A Fog.  How apt.  The term "Fog of War" immediately sprang to mind - great ignorance of friends & foes.

The term came from the following original expression written in 1832 and appeared in English in 1873.

"...War is the realm of uncertainty; three quarters of the factors on which action in war is based are wrapped in a fog of greater or lesser uncertainty. A sensitive and discriminating judgment is called for; a skilled intelligence to scent out the truth.

— Carl von Clausewitz...."

Trump should ruminate upon.

"It makes sense for North Korea to come to the table and make a deal that is good for the people of North Korea and for the world,"

But does it.

The key thing I believe is that the North Korean military regime represents a typical government "vested interest", which does what it needs to to preserve itself from change.

If peace breaks out between North Korea and the world, the military regime would no longer have a reason to exist and would potentially lose all their current privileges.

So it doesn't make sense for that regime to do what is good for everyone else.

Unless the members of that regime can be made to understand that they stand to benefit personally from a regime change, even factoring in the loss of current privilege that they would experience in the short-term.

NK would agree to negotiations only if the US and SK would agree to a peace treaty that would: 1) mandate US military withdrawal from the Korean Peninsula, and 2) accept unification of Koreas under DPRK regime.

Maybe you all think that's acceptable, but I doubt the SK people would agree to giving up their sovereignty and freedom to live in a unified Korea under DPRK regime.

NK hold the Trump card in it hands and have for 64 years. That is million of working SK citizens earning mega profit for the mega elites of the world. Think about it. Trump is only a small fish when it the mega elites. He will do what he is hold to do. Until the world money earning stall or even dip the Elite will allow this egoistic Idiot to perform on the world stage has the leader of the so called free world. When the international money flow slow. A heart attack will see a new Puppet installed.

"Don't mess with us, North Korea, we will totally kick your...oh my god! What is that? Tiny droplets of rain forming into low lying fog? Ah! Run away!"

Donald Trump

From the BBC today

Mr Trump began his speech to lawmakers in Seoul by praising the South's achievements since the Korean War, in contrast to the North's. He likened it to "a tragic experiment in the laboratory of history".

That man needs to brush up on Asian history. He's ignored (or is unaware) of South Korea's various dictatorships and corrupt governments over the years.

Very trying, indeed.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

"Ultimately, it'll all work out."

Trump, the all singing all dancing buffoon. I wonder what his base will say to such incendiary rhetoric. What about the military complex?

Maybe we don't need $4Bn in additional missile defense spending.

That man needs to brush up on Asian history. He's ignored (or is unaware) of South Korea's various dictatorships and corrupt governments over the years.

Maybe Xi can give Trump another 10 minute history lesson. He has the attention span of a gnat and couldn't last longer than a one pager mostly with pictures.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Why would haze/fog stop Trump? That is his normal operational milieu.

Trump, the all singing all dancing buffoon. I wonder what his base will say to such incendiary rhetoric. What about the military complex?

Better than a president that talks and talks and lectures and talks and lectures.

Maybe Xi can give Trump another 10 minute history lesson. He has the attention span of a gnat and couldn't last longer than a one pager mostly with pictures.

China doesn’t care about, China cares if Walmart will carry their products or not. That’s the language they know and care about.

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

Talking to some veterans and they are so against this war of words. They despair at the young recruits whoopin and a hollerin over possible conflict.

Anecdotage, I know, but should we not listen to our elders?

Trump is not an elder, btw. He's a magnet for the angry and confused. There is no wisdom in his word salad.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Too bad Obama didn't do anything about the worsening North Korean situation, or Bush before him, or Clinton before him, who started giving North Korea billions of U.S. taxpayers' money.

-8 ( +2 / -10 )

You've got a huge military presence just outside NK doing "exercises" etc. I'm not surprised that NK is worried that the US is up to something or getting into position to do something. Look what happened to Sadam Hussein.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Better than a president that talks and talks and lectures and talks and lectures.

To quote an eminent British PM; Jaw jaw is better than war war.

Look what happened to Sadam Hussein.

You can bet Little Kim is looking. After after seeing what he's seeing, becoming ever more determined to hang on to his missiles for dear life. Literally.

he urged Pyongyang to "come to the table" and "make a deal."

After threatening them with total destruction. Great bargaining ploy.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Yesterday was reported as due to being a cliche going there NOT this fog B.S. He wimped out cuz he thought he might get a rocket from Kim.

How many here are disappointed at this opportunity lost for Kim to take out Trump?

2 ( +4 / -2 )

He is meeting rocket man on an even linguistic field. Quite brilliant that. With crooked Hillary in charge, we=d be in ww3 already. Count your blessings.

I would recommend the chronic Trump haters to read Scott Adams. He has been consistently correct on the issue.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

A very succinct message to Rocket Man: Dont mess with the U.S. . . . .

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Crazy: "The author of "The Art of the Deal" has been nuked by "Rocket Man." Donnie has been cut off at his knees by the ruler of the Hermit Kingdom."

Bwa ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Thanks for the knee-slapper, Crazy!

Trump is mostly a drama queen on North Korea. His main function is tweeting out threats that his own advisors say is not possible.

Here's the full speech

MUST SEE President Trump's Unforgettable Speech to South Korean National Assembly 11/7/17

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Blah blah blah ba ba etc.. Trump is not going to do anything about NK unless they do something and it hits the fan. Lots of rhetoric and no action. Go back to sleep.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

While many countries have nuclear weapons included the US. Hypocrisy enough?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

The same President who thinks he can credibly scare a nuclear-armed rival can be turned back by a little inconvenient weather.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

"Today, I hope I speak not only for our countries, but for all civilized nations"

I think you'll find Mr. Trump that most "civilized nations" are trying to distance themselves from you.  You speak for no one but your southern state red necked backers who probably couldn't point to Korea on a map.
