Elliot Abrams comes close to being the first convicted liar to reappear before congress, but not quite. Unlike Cohen, Abrams was never actually charged or convicted of perjury for his prior congressional testimony (even though he probably could have). Abrams only plead guilty to a misdemeanor of 'willful failure to answer questions pertinent to a Congressional inquiry'.

I think if you actually watched the hearing, you would have an answer to your question...and there is no reduced sentence, nor was anything like that even on the table. This hearing was only an opportunity to present criminal evidence to the country and final words from Cohen. He was subpoenaed to the court, criminals subpoenaed aren't ever there to save themselves as its involuntary.

Over the last 50 yrs, there are examples of politicians in the State Dept and White House who were believed to have violated federal criminal laws, yet they didn't get any jail time.

The politicians who were caught were stupid. It is the smart ones you avoid getting caught. Hillary was investigated already. The FBI coudn't find sufficient proof that she did or requested people who worked for her to perform illegal acts. Get over it. You can read the FBI reports for yourself, if you like. The FBI is about facts in those reports, not about what they believe to be true.

The same will apply to Trump. Some beliefs that he is a crook and has 500 incidents of acting like a crook, being around other crooks, and somehow still not being caught isn't helpful to get many people, including me, to think he is clean, but it isn't proof either.

Trump never lies....

Neither do insurance or pre-owned vehicle salesmen. It is called "selling."

I bet he didn't directly hire any, but I'd also bet that he directed the people doing the hiring in such a way that only illegal immigrants would accept the jobs.

Doing something and being caught doing it, with proof, are 2 very different things.

I only saw snippets of this cheap theater, but it really is an embarrassment for any congress to spend time on party political nonsense like this.

But hey, that is current politics.

Just another example of why Trump is going to cruise to victory in 2020.

Americans are fed up with the lying media and dishonest tactics of the left.

First it was the baseless, disgusting attacks on Kavanaugh that failed to accomplish their goal.

Now, they put a liar on the stand. Whiff number two!

What's next?

At last someone is telling the truth. I hope , it is not too late for America.

Three major facts that the media either downplay or totally ignore:

Cohen said he had no evidence of "Trump-Russia collusion."

Cohen said he has never been to Prague or even the Czech Republic (where he supposedly had some secret meeting with Putin on Trump's behalf)

Cohen said that Trump did not tell him to lie to Congress. (He lied to Congress all on his own.)

He has no reason to lie about no. 1 or no. 3, because what he said doesn't hurt Trump; in fact, it helps him.

As for no. 2, immigration and travel records would be easy to check, so Cohen wouldn't lie about that even if he wanted to.

So, no Russia-Trump collusion, no secret meeting with Putin in Prague, and no orders issued by Trump to Cohen to lie to Congress.

In fact, the only bad things Cohen said about Trump were things that he had absolutely no proof or evidence for. Given that he is a convicted fraudster and perjurer, these things cannot be rationally believed.

Trump's political opponents must be so disappointed.
