In other words, just another gimmick.

Trump isn't interested in science, he just believes the last thing he heard that suits his mood.

What does suit him is making big announcements and pushing the conspiracy theory of the Deep State.

At least blood plasma is unlikely to harm patients, so it seems like a low risk treatment even if it ultimately proves ineffective.

16 ( +22 / -6 )

This is nothing more than Trump trying to change a disaster of a narrative a day before the convention.

Its that simple.

17 ( +22 / -5 )

The announcement came after days of White House officials suggesting there were politically motivated delays by the Food and Drug Administration in approving a vaccine and therapeutics for the disease that has upended Trump's reelection chances.

BS. The majority of the American people are not blaming Trump for corona deaths.

We also have hydroxychloroquine, 200 mg. with zinc twice a week, which works, but that info is supressed because Big Pharma doesn't make money on this inexpensive drug.

-25 ( +6 / -31 )

Very nice costume, powerful and to the point.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Love the protester in the Grim Reaper suit!

4 ( +9 / -5 )

Sure. That sounds plausible. The info is so suppressed that Serrano knows about it and can post it here.

He’s busting this conspiracy wide open!

9 ( +14 / -5 )

Anything to get re-elected. Nothing else matters.

8 ( +12 / -4 )

Well, at least it's not a total quack therapy, which I suppose counts for an improvement in Trump land...

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Hands up anyone who would take medical advice from someone with the mental age of a fifth grader.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

Try reading the article again. Or here’s the crib notes version:

But the evidence has been inconclusive as to how it works or how best to administer it.

Many scientists and physicians believe that convalescent plasma might provide some benefit, but it is far from a breakthrough. It is rich in antibodies that could be helpful in fighting the coronavirus, but the evidence so far has not been conclusive about whether it works, when to administer it and what dose is needed.

the chief scientist for the FDA, Denise Hinton, noted: “COVID-19 convalescent plasma should not be considered a new standard of care for the treatment of patients with COVID-19.

Or you could just go along with trump’s tweet that it’s all a deep state conspiracy if that’s easier for you.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Like all of Trump's "amazing," "major" announcements, bite into it and it's a nothing burger.

By the way, where's that "full and complete health care plan" that on July 31, Trump said he was going to sign in two weeks.

Trump is flailing. Convalescent plasma is old news.

4 ( +9 / -5 )

"Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar noted that the therapy is most effective in patients recently diagnosed with coronavirus and that the treatment itself proved a 35% mortality rate reduction in patients under 80 who were not already using a ventilator.

“I just want to emphasize this point because I don’t want you to gloss over this number,” he reiterated. “We dream in drug development of something like a 35% mortality reduction. This is a major advance in the treatment of patients. This is a major advance.”"

Of course, the anti-Trump brigade is displeased.

We consider COVID-19 deaths to be:

*Deaths in which a patient hospitalized for any reason within 14 days of a positive COVID-19 test result dies in the hospital or within the 60 days following discharge.*

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

Everybody should be highly skeptical of a president who not too long ago was encouraging people to ingest Lysol as a cure for the coronavirus.

The man is obviously a moron and you should not trust him.

Where's Dr. Fauci? He's the only one worth listening to.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

So all the science people at the FDA who say it works are in on the conspiracy too?

Trump literally tweeted this. It’s in the article. He believes it is a conspiracy in the FDA.

Also in the article is a Chief FDA scientist stating plasma should not be used yet.

You are contradicting yourself.

Trump isn't interested in science,

At least blood plasma is unlikely to harm patients, so it seems like a low risk treatment even if it ultimately proves ineffective.

I donated plasma for two summers and made a little cash from it, and it can help a lot of people with numerous conditions. If donors are needed once this pandemic is over and if I qualify, I'll gladly do it again.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

White House officials suggesting there were politically motivated delays by the Food and Drug Administration in approving a vaccine and therapeutics for the disease that has upended Trump's reelection chances.

Poor widdle victim.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

that number is the key part of the narrative, despite having slowed significantly recently.

further proven by the picture with this article showing a guy holding a sign saying 176K.

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

Trump, in news conferences, “has made all kinds of therapeutic suggestions,” which have not proven to be supported by science — and are even dangerous, Schaffner said. That includes statements about the possible value of treating COVID-19 patients with ultraviolet light and bleach. Trump reportedly also recently became enthusiastic about oleandrin, a plant extract derived from a toxic shrub that scientists immediately warned against

Trump would be best advised to not spout trash when it comes to science. Some of his trash is relatively harmless and sometimes funny, but this is a serious issue.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Many people say that plasma will less effective than snake oil for curing Trump's credibility gap.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

and if your Governor sends known COVID infected people to your nursing home instead of to a provided hospital ship and otherwise healthy people die- is that a COVID death too?

Or can you write a book before the election and claim how great of a job you did in handling the virus?

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

and if your Governor sends known COVID infected people to your nursing home instead of to a provided hospital ship and otherwise healthy people die- is that a COVID death too?

Or can you write a book before the election and claim how great of a job you did in handling the virus?

So that’s all you have? Alrighty.

Anyway, back on topic. Do you believe trump or the FDA? Still waiting on that one.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

there is not a Trump -or- the FDA. He simply announced what the FDA said has benefits for more than 70,000 people.

I know that upsets you, but here it is.

The US Food and Drug Administration issued an emergency use authorization for the use of convalescent plasma to treat Covid-19 on Sunday, saying the "known and potential benefits of the product outweigh the known and potential risks of the product."

The FDA said more than 70,000 patients had been treated convalescent plasma, made using the blood of people who have recovered from coronavirus infections.

"Today I am pleased to make a truly historic announcement in our battle against the China virus that will save countless lives," President Trump said at a White House briefing. "Today's action will dramatically increase access to this treatment."

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

So, you still haven’t read the article.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

This biased article from AP isnt the only article in existence.

FDA issued the authorization and Trump announced the same. Same page. there is no Trump side and separate FDA side. this is "the FDA", not some individual or an ex FDA person who cares to comment. The FDA issued this authorization, meaning this treatment works and will be used.

What, are you hoping Faici gets an emergency vocal cord transplant so he can go on CNN tomorrow and claim the FDA doesnt believe that they just authorized to use actually works?

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

I mean, awesome medical terminology in this article, right?

"strong hint", but not considered "proof"?

yet the FDA issued an authorization and indicated 35% lower death rate. cant have that, then poor Grim Reaper guy cant stand outside and get his picture taken with a 180k sign next week.

Earlier this month, Mayo Clinic researchers reported a strong hint that blood plasma from COVID-19 survivors helps other infected patients recover. But it wasn’t considered proof.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

This biased article from AP isnt the only article in existence.

Typical right-winger response. Like Trump, if it doesn't fit his narrative, or view, it must be fake or biased. Trump is the first American president, Republican or Democrat, to do that. Only dictators like Putin twist medical facts to fit their views.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

So who’s editing trump tweets for a liberal bias?

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

yeah cause I am quite sure that Mayo Clinic researchers actually said "there is a strong hint of..." as the findings of medical research and study. Wouldnt be the author of this article telling HIS story to downplay what they actually said, would it?

Have you ever heard the results of a medical research study say "there is a strong hint of" something as an actual conclusion? Then the FDA act on that and issue an emergency use authorization based on a "hint"?

Oh heres Putin again, hi Vlad!

Only dictators like Putin twist medical facts to fit their views.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

Now he’s Captain Science.....oh my.

So it’s not a conspiracy then? Make your mind up.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

then why does the FDA support using it? Trump is pushing nothing, just announcing what the FDA said.

You liberals just love to try to downplay any positive news and prevent people from taking anything that might help them. Gotta get that death rate over 200K to try to drag Biden's carcass over the finish line.

that Trump is pushing an unproven cure again.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

This is nothing but a "hail mary" by the GOP to save themselves in the elections.

And it's not going to work.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

sounds "proven" to me.

Centuries old, "go to tactic", works against some infections, no evidence it doesnt fight corona, dont need to know how to best use it, just start using it and find out.

But when Trump says we can try it, liberals go nuts.

More than 70,000 patients in the U.S. have been given convalescent plasma, a century-old approach to fend off flu and measles before vaccines. It’s a go-to tactic when new diseases come along, and history suggests it works against some, but not all, infections.

There’s no solid evidence yet that it fights the coronavirus and, if so, how best to use it.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

The message from the left clearly is: Please dont let there be progress against Covid19 until the light bringer Biden is elected!

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

We also have hydroxychloroquine, 200 mg. with zinc twice a week, which works, but that info is supressed because Big Pharma doesn't make money on this inexpensive drug.

Here’s another conspiracy theory from rightists. They keep pushing this despite the mountain of evidence disproving it. Oh my!

These doctors say it works. Prove them wrong. Oh my!

https://www.thesfnews.com/dr-simone-loses-her-job-after-promoting-hydroxychloroquine-rewrite/61666

Anything to get re-elected. Nothing else matters.

Harris and Biden will say anything to get elected. Nothing else matters.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

yet they created an emergency use authorization for something they dont support using?

The FDA clearly doesn’t support its widespread use

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

and if your Governor sends known COVID infected people to your nursing home instead of to a provided hospital ship and otherwise healthy people die- is that a COVID death too?

no when a president fails to take a pandemic seriously and forces red states to open early causing a spike in deaths and infections eg TX FL. Meanwhile NY and CA have both got their virus under control and are opening slowly and controlled. Get this America is still in its 1st wave

0 ( +2 / -2 )

and I want the media to tell me what was actually said.

Not what they wish was said or their interpretation.

I know the researchers didnt say there is a "strong hint" so what did they say? why wont article man tell me what words they actually used? Must have been something more than a strong hint to get the FDA to issue an emergency use authorization.

the authors use their own words to write news articles.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Please dont let there be progress against Covid19 until the light bringer Biden is elected!

just think if Trump went full monty in February and got this pandemic under control America like many other countries would be nearly fully open by now, he could have reaped the praise of doing a good job and maybe even be reelected. But no this is the master of disaster Trump his ego keeps fracken things up for him

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Sounds "proven" to me.

Centuries old, "go to tactic", works against some infections, no evidence it doesnt fight corona, dont need to know how to best use it, just start using it and find out.

Yeah, strange it wasn’t used until now. You’d have thought a go to tactic would have been gone to.

poor Grim Reaper guy cant stand outside and get his picture taken with a 180k sign next week.

Oh. So what do you predict the number to be next week? It’s going to suddenly stop in 7 days? I wish it would but it’s that kind of hoping and wishing it would just go away that has reached that awful number.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Isnt the photo accompanying this article weird? I mean really, its hardly appropriate. But I guess the idea is to juxtapose it with the promise of The Light Bringer.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Just think if Biden had been president at the start of the pandemic. He wouldn't have closed down travel from China Jan.31 like Trump did, that is clear from his response the following day.

Possibly. It is an effective protest though. Try to separate yourself from partisanship and judge it on its own merits.

The Grim Reaper as a symbol of death. Yeah that’s a new one.

People are angry at trumps response. Is that a new one too? Hmmm. What a head scratcher.

Maybe there was someone in a Light Bringer costume with flowing white robes just out of camera shot. No, wait...that probably didn’t happen.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Uh, but back to my point. It is weird and has nothing to do with the article.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Uh, but back to my point. It is weird and has nothing to do with the article.

The article is about a treatment which could slow the rise of the horrific number of people dead in the US from Covid. I get the sense this protester, rightly or wrongly, blames Trump for this horrific number. Trump’s appalling approval rating on dealing with Covid indicates this is not an unusual view.

The Grim Reaper is a very well-known icon of death. I can see the relevance. Very effective.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Just think if Biden had been president at the start of the pandemic. He wouldn't have closed down travel from China Jan.31 like Trump did, that is clear from his response the following day.

and the strain of the virus that's attacking AMerica is mostly from the European strain, Americans returning from Europe and Europeans were not stopped until end of March. Too little too late , now America has the 7th highest deaths per capita in the world, so what doesn't Trump do opens red states and schools. 200000 dead by years end are the estimates. Worst legacy of any president in history.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Please dont let there be progress against Covid19 until the light bringer Biden is elected!

Shortly after the Biden inauguration in January, Biden will announce the elusive COVID-19 vaccine and cure has been developed, the infected numbers dramatically drop and the pandemic is declared over.

Biden and the Democrats will no doubt take credit for it, boasting what couldn't be done under a Republican administration, has been done in just a few weeks after they took over.

China and the Democrats won in ousting Trump and the pandemic has served its purpose.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Did this get Steve Bannon and Trump's sister off the front pages?

like Obamas economy

China and the Democrats won in ousting Trump and the pandemic has served its purpose.

No Trump himself is responsible for his own ousting, in his failed pandemic response and just failure as a leader. "The buck stops here" Truman. Somehow Trump and his supporters think he's not responsible at all!?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

When Trump supporters can no longer find anything positive to say about their Trump, they attack 'the media', another bugbear that in their ever-fearful imaginations might be more powerful than the 'deep state'.

LOL! I guess I was not the only one that saw that too!

3 ( +4 / -1 )

You liberals just love to try to downplay any positive news and prevent people from taking anything that might help them.

Remember that time, oh not so long ago, when you were telling us how 30 minutes of sunlight was enough to eliminate the virus?

Pardon the scepticism.
