Why am I not surprised by this.

Another move in the giant chess game...

15 ( +20 / -5 )

So much for the Nobel peace prize, huh?

His letter to Kim was one of the most unprofessional and condescending things I've ever read.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

Something about a gathering in a brewery. Of course he'll point the finger of blame to others. But the build-up did take some attention off the investigations into his criminal dealings and collusion.

What will happen with the commemorative coins? Knowing they could have collector's value, I expect the Trump-Kushner syndicate to start making fakes to sell.

9 ( +14 / -5 )

Doing nothing might be the best option. Really can't fathom any dialogue with a man who killed his own brother, used an anti aircraft gun to kill his uncle. And the man who is the president has serious character faults..best to separate them for the worlds good.

-6 ( +9 / -15 )

What is with NK supposedly blowing up their testing tunnels in a “show of good faith” before the summits, and then DT canceling after threats and “open hostility”?

They have been hostile all along, he probably just realized that he didn’t have anything to gain by current conditions. I often wonder if DT has a plan or if goes around reacting to things.

7 ( +12 / -5 )

What I'd like to know is was Kim trying to make Trump cancel the summit so that Kim could look good, or did Trump trump Kim by being the first one to quit the summit

5 ( +9 / -4 )

Never thought they would meet. Probably for the best given their volatile natures.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

Well, I’m not at all surprised by this, it’s so typical of NK, but the President did the right thing, if Kim is not serious about going into denuclearization talks then the President should walk away, increase the sanctions and just wait it out, the US has time, Kim doesn’t. This typical game that NK plays in the hopes to get some sort of concessions won’t wok with this President.

What is with NK supposedly blowing up their testing tunnels in a “show of good faith” before the summits, and then DT canceling after threats and “open hostility”?

It was the rhetoric of NK and them calling Pence stupid, the entire nasty verbal tone, the President thought instead of going back and forth and face the high possibility escalating verbal threats, he just decided to walk away, but making sure and ensuring Kim that when he’s serious, the talks can resume once again.

-19 ( +8 / -27 )

Bolton and Pence just rained on Donny's Nobel parade. Disjointed and dysfunctional WH staff and incoherent policy, what can you expect?

15 ( +21 / -6 )

As expected. "But he's going to meet Kim" they cried. Prematurely. "But he's brought peace to the region" they cried. Prematurely. "He deserves the peace prize" they cried. Without bringing peace. "He's the master negotiator" they cried. Without actually negotiating.

They were so desperate for a win, they tried to claim Trump is a whole bunch of things he's not.

20 ( +28 / -8 )

I believe there was good faith for the summit on both sides. Trust was destroyed with the joint military exercises of US and SK being carried out.

4 ( +12 / -8 )

Usually these sorts of politics aren't seen openly. They happen, just not in public.

It ain't over til it is over.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Bolton and Pence just rained on Donny's Nobel parade. Disjointed and dysfunctional WH staff and incoherent policy, what can you expect?

Actally, they didn’t, Kim was the one that started thinking that he can call the shots on this. If he were truly serious, he would. Have had inspectors on the site to verify these tunnel decommissions, but they didn’t. The Nobel peace prize isn’t a priority in anyone’s mind, except for the typical left-wing media, the most important thing is to keep the talks going into seriously focus on them and bring Kim back to them.

-22 ( +7 / -29 )

History has shown that America takes advantage of nations not able to adequately protect themselves.

Conditionally demanding unilateral disarmament is nonsensical.

Prez Trump needs a different strategy....

8 ( +15 / -7 )

quercetumToday  07:34 am JST

I believe there was good faith for the summit on both sides. Trust was destroyed with the joint military exercises of US and SK being carried out.

Anyone who actually follows the news knows that according to Pres Moon, Kim had indicated that he would not seek to terminate the US/SK exercises. So yes, trust was destroyed as usual by North Korea reversing it's earlier position. This was paramount in moving forward with a US/NK meeting because neither SK nor the US are willing to give up the joint exercises until NK actually "denuclearizes".

4 ( +13 / -9 )

Conditionally demanding unilateral disarmament is nonsensical.

Shhhhhh. Common sense is anathema here. You just might be called a spy.

-4 ( +6 / -10 )

Conditionally demanding unilateral disarmament is nonsensical.

With NK and Iran, there is no other way.

But it’s not the end of line, the negotiations will still continue and news alert just now, they still want to continue the talks, so it’s a good thing, the President needs to continue to take a positive, but a NO BS approach and if Kim is not serious, continue to not play his game, walk away and turn up the sanctions, right now Kim and the Chinese are eying Trump and see how far they can take this. Typical NK ploy.

-19 ( +3 / -22 )

Chaos is not a successful diplomatic strategy. Trump has negotiated nothing thus far except grant Kim a meeting twice with his secretary of state. North Korea appears to be the winner in this exchange with prisoner release and destruction of a nuclear facility while America has back slid and made wild predictions. Poor Trump supporters, who knew being a mature adult was so hard?

8 ( +12 / -4 )

Very good. POTUS shall not bend down toward some fat idiot from NK.

-19 ( +5 / -24 )

That surprises me. I would have thought it was Kim that would have cancelled the summit. Either way, its not going to happen.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

neither SK nor the US are willing to give up the joint exercises until NK actually "denuclearizes".

Agree with Ossan here, unusually. However, Bolton basically gave NK a good reality check by bringing up the Libyan model. They were looking for a reason to make demands they always were going to make. Denuclearizesation as the US wants it, (only NK gives up it's nukes) will never happen. China needs a buffer between the US and itself and will press Kim to insist of US withdrawal before anything like denuclearizesation happens. Might be time for Trump and the US to walk away and stay away.Trump has never actually negotiated a "good deal" in his life. His whole immature point of view as win - lose is counter to diplomacy. Let the Koreans sort it out. If there was a formal "end to the war" would the US still insist on being in SK?

12 ( +14 / -2 )

Waiting for the usual tweets on the matter. Should be fun !

10 ( +10 / -0 )

A farce. But that's what happens when you boast about it and allow Bolton to make the Libya comparison and Pence to repeat the threat.

That letter is the most childish, passive-aggressive rubbish I've read. Did Trump really write it?

18 ( +21 / -3 )

Was there anybody who actually believed this summit would happen? Trump just used this an excuse to ensure support for military action against the DPRK. He has warned little Kim about being reckless, but it is he who is being reckless.

11 ( +11 / -0 )

Actually, I was never expecting this summit to really happen. I guess now that North Korea threatened to pull out he wanted to save face, knowing very well that he doesn't grasp the entire situation anyway and thus wouldn't be a good negotiator.

In every way this was a strategic blunder. It should not be seen as a Trump win. Yes, we got back three Americans held hostage, two of which had been apprehended during the Trump term. I think it was in North Korea's interest to do this anyway. But, North Korea got what it wanted. Essentially, guarantees and improved alliances with both China and South Korea. Essentially, America has been edged out of the Pacific and Japan will have to adjust its relationship with China. So, if you add the TPP exit to this, America just lost a huge strategic advantage and can no longer be considered the pre-eminent Pacific power. Ditto on EU and JCPOA. Iran maneuvered deftly and broke the alliance. Good moves Trumpers. Alliances like these are not easy to win back.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

I’m not the smartest guy in the room, but why would you cancel a meeting that could have possibly prevented further provocation from a reclusive “regime” and then threaten with possibly military actions while having “knowledge “that they have nuclear capabilities? :-/

15 ( +15 / -0 )

"We'll see what happens."

Trump has already had his mind made up for him, and he knows it! He is so transparent. The military industrial machine is bullying NK into war. Peace talks were never on the table. Bullying is the only tactic Trump and his business friends are capable of.

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Did Trump really write it?

Almost certainly not. His aides write his tweets. If President Pørnø Kleptø can't manage to write his own tweets one doubts very much could have written this ridiculous letter.

https://nypost.com/2018/05/22/aides-purposely-add-typos-to-trump-tweets-to-mimic-his-style/

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Generally, I don't like posting up YT stuff but prepare for more partisan sludge from the likes of Faux News, this sums it up nicely:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1lougu_nis

If any lesson has been learned from the whole debacle, it's that the US is not to be trusted when it comes to deals. Paris, Iran and now the DPRK.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1lougu_nis

Now that's funny!

8 ( +8 / -0 )

While I wasn't expecting much, it would seem that Trump dangles carrots in front of people and pulls them away, so he get some more of the cherry.I Wonder if Trump has met his match in this great poker game. Trump is a salesman, but he is the kind of salesman that isn't to be trusted unless he is screwing you over and your gullible to believe.

I'm sure there was no way NK was going to take up the lovely offer of a LYBIAN deal.( we all know how that turned out)

On top of that, we have seen how Trump ripped up the IRAN deal, that everyone else seemed perfectly happy with.

And we have seen how the US BSed us when it came to the second Iraq war.

Did we ever find those NUKES? NOPE!

Why you would cancel something when you actually have nothing to loose, unless its just BS.

The US won't go and do any military action. It will have to suck it up, like every other US president, and just contain NK. South Korea, Japan, and non of the traditional US allies want this.Especially after the BS, Trump pulls on its traditional allies, or even its frenemies.

I gotta be honest, the next war the US starts.... I won't be supporting it.Not after the last two.Iraqi and Afgahanistan and the thanks we got from Trump.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

A farce. But that's what happens when you boast about it and allow Bolton to make the Libya comparison and Pence to repeat the threat.

Oh, please! While I abhor the Kim dynasty, this has nothing to do with Bolton. Another ruse by Kim and the MSM is falling for it. Bolton is just a scapegoat. The Real problem is that Kim has used videos of Ceausescu being taken out in the back and shot continuously to his people and soldiers of what he fears most if he gives up everything and he’s right, he doesn’t know, but with money running out, time running out, he doesn’t have a lot of viable options.

That letter is the most childish, passive-aggressive rubbish I've read. Did Trump really write it?

No, the letter showed strength and showed that the President is still willing to engage Kim and go down this aisle to seek out peace and denuclearization of the Peninsula. Trump could have escalated the rhetoric with explosive language as we all know too well something he can do with ease, but he didn’t do that. He politely and respectfully walked away like he said, so now the administration will see where this goes, Kim wanting to get back to the talks or face stronger and more punishing sanctions. The ball is in his court now, he needs to make a choice. Time is not on his side with fast dwindling financial resources.

-18 ( +0 / -18 )

This has John Bolton written all over it. President Trump very much wanted to meet Kim Jong Un. The problem is, if they were to meet, they would probably get along very well; this in turn would make it very hard for Bolton to get his war.

12 ( +12 / -0 )

If he were truly serious, he would. Have had inspectors on the site to verify these tunnel decommissions, but they didn’t.

"I truly believed, at the time, that there were WMD's in Iraq"...

6 ( +6 / -0 )

This has John Bolton written all over it.

No, Trump is steering this sewerage truck. He just veered right straight into the gutter. Hold your noses people esp' now as his popularity dips again. Bolton can't steer Trump any direction the orange baboon doesn't want to go.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

alfie:

That video was stomach churning. Hypocrisy knows no bound when it comes to Fox and most of the Republicans.

And yeah, that Nobel Peace Prize has been thrown out the window. That's the only silver lining.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

StrangerlandToday  07:32 am JST

As expected. "But he's going to meet Kim" they cried. Prematurely. "But he's brought peace to the region" they cried. Prematurely. "He deserves the peace prize" they cried. Without bringing peace. "He's the master negotiator" they cried. Without actually negotiating.

They were so desperate for a win, they tried to claim Trump is a whole bunch of things he's not.

Such is to be expected of people who elect their leaders as proxy for their self-esteem, as opposed to because they are able to pursue sensible policies of sustainable growth.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

This has John Bolton written all over it.

Not entirely, remember Mattis and Pampeo are also part of this.

President Trump very much wanted to meet Kim Jong Un. The problem is, if they were to meet, they would probably get along very well; this in turn would make it very hard for Bolton to get his war.

Bolton doesn’t want a war, the left and their delusional idea of Bolton is over the top laughable, but Bolton DOES want like everyone else complete and total denuclearization of the country, that’s for sure and if all else fails, the military option is still on the table. Now I do believe China has their hands in this. Kim was on board and the second meeting he had with Xi and when Kim came back, he changed, so as long as China has their talons in this, these peace talks will be very tricky.

-14 ( +1 / -15 )

He politely and respectfully walked away like he said

He lied about a "long-planned meeting" and threatened the DPRK once again. It's like it was written by an escaped inmate from an asylum.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

There were conditions and they weren’t met so he walked. Just as he said he would. It’s not about his “legacy” like it was with the last guy. Temporary delay to recalibrate things.

-12 ( +1 / -13 )

Wow, when I joked yesterday about Trump destroying his own achievements before he achieves them, I didn't expect him to tank the North Korea meeting within 24 hours!

When all is said and done, Trump will probably have been the greatest gift ever to Kim Jong Un. No other world leader would make the chubby goofy kid-dictator of North Korea look stately by comparison.

Step 1: Pence suggests North Korea should be handled like the country whose leader got killed immediately after surrendering nuclear weapons.

Step 2: Surprising no one, the North Korean leader who Pence appears to be angling to have killed is outraged.

Step 3: Trump says North Korea is just too angry to work with.

We normally don't see this behavior coming from world leaders to other world leaders, but it's a prime example of the gas-lighting that men who abuse women often use. Gee, I wonder how someone like Trump might have learned it.

Bass4funk,

all your comments have negative likes but your analysis is flawless.

Liberals and media attack Trump for every move here makes. He makes a peaceful overture he is bashed for being conned and played by Kim. He pulls back or responds half as negatively as Kim and he’s bashed for being bad to peaceful Kim.

Trump is doing everything right.

The US is the strongest military power. It’s the one with the advantage .

But we’re dealing with an evil dictator who executed anyone he fears and kills, enslaves, tortures and starved the citizenry, fires rockets over neighboring countries and he and his father and grandfather have tricked the West for decades.

kim and his country are on their knees, and everyday this continues the more he’s worried about his own people turning in him.

My prediction for how this will end.

Kim will be back. There will eventually be talks. And Trump will (or should) indeed end up with a peace prize. Because while Kim is evil and ruthless and not to be trusted, he wants to stay alive.

It would help though if the media were supporting their country

-13 ( +3 / -16 )

He lied about a "long-planned meeting" and threatened the DPRK once again.

Oh, stop, the NK didn’t even show up with their delegates to have talks and setup the upcoming meeting and they never showed for a few days. That’s a big red light.

There is No way you can even begin to have talks when the opposite side won’t even show up.

It's like it was written by an escaped inmate from an asylum.

What?

-14 ( +2 / -16 )

I agree.

-14 ( +0 / -14 )

I’m sure in trump’s “mind”this makes him look like a formidable and strong leader but the reality is...

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Bolton doesn’t want a war,

Do you have absolute proof of this? You know, the absolute proof you demand of others when they say something you don't like?

12 ( +12 / -0 )

It would help though if the media were supporting their country

Questioning the irrational and wanton behaviour of a bad leader is the ultimate in supporting one's country.

Unless you were referring to the DPRK? In which case, you can be certain the media are supporting their leader, I mean, country.

It's time for the peoples of both countries to come to the fore and topple both dictators.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

It’s not about his “legacy” like it was with the last guy.

"He deserves the nobel peace prize" his worshipper say.

-- meeting cancelled --

"It's not about his legacy" his worshippers say.

Oh dear, Dear Leader.

12 ( +14 / -2 )

It would help though if the media were supporting their country

Don't you watch Fox "News"?

They are the propaganda machine of the current administration. They do exactly what you wish they were doing.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

Coward. No one is surprised Trump would run away from this.

12 ( +16 / -4 )

No problem. Xi and Kim probably signed a sanctions busting pact not long ago so Kim probably felt he didn’t need to sit down with Trump to beat sanctions. Hence the attack on Trump via VP Pence.

Strangerland:

He deserves the peace prize" they cried. Without bringing peace.

I think it was SK President Moon who first mentioned a Nobel.

And... what was the name of that American a few years back who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize without bringing peace?

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Wow, when I joked yesterday about Trump destroying his own achievements before he achieves them, I didn't expect him to tank the North Korea meeting within 24 hours!

Hmmmm....Trump didn’t destroy anything. Now if he were a Democrat, he probably would have buckled, appeased and capitulated to Kim in order to make a deal, this President won’t bend and he shouldn’t. You never bend over in front of your enemies.

When all is said and done, Trump will probably have been the greatest gift ever to Kim Jong Un. No other world leader would make the chubby goofy kid-dictator of North Korea look stately by comparison.

Easy on the morning caffeine.

Step 1: Pence suggests North Korea should be handled like the country whose leader got killed immediately after surrendering nuclear weapons.

Never happened and no one would say it was EVER going to happen.

Step 2: Surprising no one, the North Korean leader who Pence appears to be angling to have killed is outraged.

Which is typical of the regime because they knew their backs were against the wall.

Step 3: Trump says North Korea is just too angry to work with.

They we’re getting hostile, took a more aggressive and hostile tone, insulting the VP, so like a spoiled whiny child. But now the temper tantrum is flowing away and now they would like to resume talks. This is true leadership, you impose crippling sanctions and if that doesn’t work, squeeze them more, sooner or later, they will come to you and it hasn’t been 24 hours yet.

We normally don't see this behavior coming from world leaders to other world leaders,

Weakness and capitulation and appeasement, not like the previous President.

but it's a prime example of the gas-lighting that men who abuse women often use. Gee, I wonder how someone like Trump might have learned it.

What?

-16 ( +1 / -17 )

If we apply the gun logic that "I need a (gun/assault rifle/sex toy) to defend myself and my loved ones". Why does North Korea need to unilaterally denuclearize?

Before you guys kill me, that was just a rhetorical question. Don't get me wrong, I also strongly believe North Korea should denuclearize but the U.S. should do the same and lead the path to a non-nuclear weapons world.

Then maybe then will the orange man be worthy enough of a Nobel Peace Prize.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

I think it was SK President Moon who first mentioned a Nobel.

And he's peons repeated it ad infinitum.

what was the name of that American a few years back who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize without bringing peace?

What does that have to do with Trump?

You people love to deflect away from his failures.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

They we’re getting hostile

On the verge of peace, the US holds anti-NK military exercises off the coast of NK, then tries to claim that NK was getting hostile.

Yeah, right.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Questioning the irrational and wanton behaviour of a bad leader is the ultimate in supporting one's country.

If the shoe fits. Look, Kim is hemorrhaging badly financially, the administration doesn’t need to get nasty or hostile. Kim is in the hot seat, Kim is losing money, Kim is the one that is and will become more and more desperate as the money runs out.

Unless you were referring to the DPRK? In which case, you can be certain the media are supporting their leader, I mean, country.

Well, I am not surprised that the socialist media would support Kim. ROFL! Not in the slightest. I just wonder why they are here. They should move to NK or some other socialist country......and talk Hollywood as well.

It's time for the peoples of both countries to come to the fore and topple both dictators.

Trump killed people? Millions of them? He had firing squads and arrested people without due process? He destroyed millions of historical books? Nice try. When Trump gets on the level of brutality that Kim is known for, then you refer to him as a dictator. You guys are too funny. Cheerios time.

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

“And yeah, that Nobel Peace Prize has been thrown out the window. That's the only silver lining.”

media and most liberals here don’t really want Trump to succeed.

And no no I don’t watch Fox News. But given that CNN and MSNBC and najor networks are basically the PR arm of the Democrat party, why are you worried about Fox?

you should watch it so that you get some balance.

If you must know I read everything online from bbc, this site, huffpo, cnn, Time, NYT, Australia sites, Fox, Breitbart.

read both sides and you get some balance. It’s also why I thought Trump would win, and most of you here laughed and thought it was impossible.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

How is postponing a meeting a “failure”? As far as the Nobel thing, just shows it’s about what is best for America not his “legacy”. Otherwise he would have had the meeting, taken a crap deal and got his award.

Deme can’t get on same page. Some mocking our President some saying it should have been cancelled and some complaining that it was cancelled.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

Dems should all watch CNN first, get their talking points, then run to Twitter.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

Questioning the irrational and wanton behaviour of a bad leader is the ultimate in supporting one's country.

If the shoe fits.

It does. That's why we point it out so much about Trump.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

It seems rather ironic that the man whose diplomatic maneuvers helped place this golden opportunity in Trump's lap, former Sec. of State Tillerson, was fired at the same time this began to go down. Since that time Trump has brought in hardliners, which means they're unlikely to bend very much.

Also, Trump appears to be very upset, or so he says on the surface, with Kim Jong Un's comments about Pence being a political dummy. However, when viewing Pence's recent remarks in an interview in which he mentions the possibility of N. Korea going down the same path as Libya and was probably viewed as a veiled threat was arguably a pretty dumb thing in political terms to say, unless Pence's intent was to sabotage the whole process.

Then there is the question of China's strategy in all of this, Trump's need for another easy target to kick around besides Hillary, Trump's desire to rattle his saber...hmm...Chaos is a ladder, especially if you are the Chinese or the U.S. military industrial complex.

Tillerson's out, Pompeo and Bolton are in, so this opportunity could dry up and disappear.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

The song "Another one bites the dust ringing in my ears" -Queen.

On a side not looking forward to seeing the new Queen movie.

N.K. got dissed. Plain and simple. I am not sure if this is good or if this is bad. We just opened the door to let Abe and his cronies step in in and be the hero. The meet is set in Singapore right? Why scrap it? Let someone go in and negate something positive. Trump did say all along he would cancel if forward progress was not being made. What a fiasco.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

How is postponing a meeting a “failure”?

You guys defined his statement of having a meeting as 'winning', so not having the meeting is by default failure.

Maybe you guys should learn to wait until there actually is success to proclaim it ("Mission Accomplished!"), instead of trying to proclaim 'winning' before any 'winning' has happened. Then you wouldn't be trying to defend what is a failure by your own definition.

12 ( +12 / -0 )

Bass: You never bend over in front of your enemies.

“Whats wrong with having good relations with Russia (after they try to disrupt your elections)?”

”President Xi of China, and I, are working together to give massive Chinese phone company, ZTE, a way to get back into business, fast. Too many jobs in China lost. Commerce Department has been instructed to get it done!”

If this realty is too difficult to handle then feel free to go to your safe space and start making comparisons with irrelevant people. You’ll get a win.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

They are cartoons to me, Its like Griffin family meet the Simpsons, once upon a time...

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Dems should all watch CNN first, get their talking points, then run to Twitter.

The weird thing is, I pretty much never see liberals here talking about CNN or posting links to CNN. But you seem to be watching CNN 24/7, and link to them all the time.

So strange.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

read both sides and you get some balance. It’s also why I thought Trump would win, and most of you here laughed and thought it was impossible

Bingo!

It does. That's why we point it out so much about Trump.

Yes, that’s why the clock on Kim is running out. Kim is just not going to win this one, especially now where he’s at financially. Time is on my side, yes, it is.....

-14 ( +0 / -14 )

Like a contract year in sports, the most PR moves are made before elections.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

I just go right over to cnn.com and the like and voila! thats what coming out of Dem and liberals mouths all over this site and Twitter 15 mins later. That one place tells me what is considered "important" and what is to be hidden.

When the talking points dont get passed out, like on weekends, the comments are all over the place.

To me, winning was getting Kim to agree to talk, to step into S Korea, to release our hostages, destroy their nuclear test site. Total winning. Now you say the meeting not being held is failure. But when they hold the meeting you will just change it to the next thing to claim "failure".

-12 ( +0 / -12 )

Not surprised. North Korea called Pence ignorant and stupid, dis-invited South Korean media to the "demolishing" of the nuclear site, and general has shunned South Korea over the last 2 weeks.

Seems like this has been a big game and I imagine China has been pulling the puppet strings.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

"Nothing has been done for too long" they scream.

-- Talks fall apart --

"Time is on my side" they scream.

...seams they just scream no matter what.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

Plus, North Korea already said they are still willing to meet after receiving the letter.

"any time and in any way" they said. So I wouldnt start your mockery and overjoyed anti-Trump reactions just quite yet.

-9 ( +0 / -9 )

North Korea has better parades than the USA, and would be able to provide them to Trump in return for lifting sanctions. This seems like an area of possible negotiation. However, Kim never promised to do away with his nukes, and the US won't do away with its sanctions, so really, nothing much was going to happen anyway. The indicator has just moved back to the "stew" setting.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

“Whats wrong with having good relations with Russia (after they try to disrupt your elections)?”

We shouldn’t try, but Russia is even more insignificant than they we previously thought at this point and time.

”President Xi of China, and I, are working together to give massive Chinese phone company, ZTE, a way to get back into business, fast. Too many jobs in China lost. Commerce Department has been instructed to get it done!”

Nothing was done or set in stone, negotiations and research are still going on.

If this realty is too difficult to handle then feel free to go to your safe space and start making comparisons with irrelevant people. You’ll get a win.

I just go right over to cnn.com and the like and voila! thats what coming out of Dem and liberals mouths all over this site and Twitter 15 mins later.

Twitter is Twitter, and has nothing to do with JT. I have no doubt there are people on Twitter who have their talking points. On both sides.

We are here at JT though. Which points in this thread are supposed 'talking points' that came from CNN? Specifics please, because otherwise your comment is just a manufactured outrage over something non-existent.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

Very good. POTUS shall not bend down toward some fat idiot from NK.

And the rest of the world won't bend down towards some fat orange bozo.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Bolton and Pence pissed on the Nobel peace party but Trump should have gone to the summit before ending it.

You keep talking about the NP. No one cares or is thinking about the Swedes now. Lol

It löst it’s credibility when it just started awarding a President for doing nothing but being Black. Come on!

-13 ( +0 / -13 )

There is still a chance Summit with PM Abe and Kim-san will go ahead. If Kim-san rejects it, then NK will have big sanctions applied, and miss out in bug Japan infra aid and investment.

I still support Pres Trump and Michael Pence, having Japans interest at heart.

-10 ( +0 / -10 )

You can read it yourself. CNN.com big huge letters "Kim still willing to meet Trump".

Now, if you didnt know better you would think that is pro-Trump. But actually the talking points are "blame Trump for being the one not willing to meet". Then when he ultimately uncancels the meeting there will be huge letters "Trump flip flops" or "Trump bows down to Kim's demand to have a meeting". Its all a media set up every time.

-10 ( +0 / -10 )

http://thehill.com/policy/international/389277-putin-defends-north-korea-from-us-accusations-of-broken-promises

Putin is defending Kim.

So, China is apparently behind North Korea, and now Russia too. Doesn't it mean we're back to the precious status quo ? Meaning, the US, Japan and others applying sanctions, and China and Russia helping them anyway.

Now I can't see what kind of leverage the US has, and I can't imagine military action being a viable option.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

The Hawks won the battle but lost the war. The Nobel Peace is awarded by the Norwegian committee not Sweden.

My point, No one cares.

The summit meeting lost all credibility once war dog Bolton and Pence started talking about the Libyan solution.

Bolton was right. Kim knows this and this is typical NK posturing, trying to be sneaky, trying to see where is Trump’s weakness and so far, the ploy didn’t work. It hasn’t been 24 hours and Kim now wants to talk. Unwavering and unrelenting and continuously tightening the noose around the regime, but I get why Kim has to do this to score brownie points at home, we get it.

So can anything happen without Trump. Moon and Kim could finally end the Korean War.

No, Kim would overwhelm, engulf and take over the South and Moon would capitulate and that would be the end of SK.

-16 ( +0 / -16 )

It’s probably good that Trump cancelled the meeting. A lot of people were saying they were worried about China/NK taking advantage of Trump.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

It’s probably good that Trump cancelled the meeting. A lot of people were saying they were worried about China/NK taking advantage of Trump.

Looks like it’s on again, strength matters as well as taking your bread and butter away.

-11 ( +0 / -11 )

You people don’t understand diplomacy.

Mark my words. There will be a solution.

No need to panic.

When Kim says the right words, Trump responds with good will and compliments.

When he attacks and becomes belligerent Trump stands firm.

He’s doing everything right.

There is no better team than Trump, Pence, Mattis, Pompeo .

They are strong, have America’s interests at heart - but none of them want a war.

NK has lied and schemed and deceived for decades. I’m not even criticizing Clinton for being tricked - he met in good faith.

Trump and co are acting perfectly, knowing what we know after decades of dealing with the Kims.

Like me I said - just wait. The summit and agreements will come about. Time is running out for Kim and he knows that much better than the Trump-hating naive commentators on JT

-8 ( +1 / -9 )

How would that happen with American troops based in SK?

Exactly, it wouldn’t, but if you had US leave the Peninsula, then they would.

Moon and Kim should continue to explore what they share and how relationships can be improved. They don't need the consent of Trump for that.

When it comes to NK and Nukes, they will always have the US right there as they should.

-13 ( +0 / -13 )

I don't know whether it's Amateur Hour or Kids Fighting in a Sandbox.

A summit is not the meeting of two leaders to talk things through and reach some kind of agreement. All the agreements are normally made long before the leaders even hint there's going to be a summit. All the negotiations take place out of sight and on the quiet, like a swan that seems to be majestically sailing across the water is actually paddling like billions under the surface. The leaders actually meet when there's no more to be done but sign the communique in front of the cameras.

These two have no idea of the meaning of the word 'diplomacy'. A summit is not supposed to be a boxing match, with verbal blows flying before the two even step into the ring. There is not supposed to be a Winner and a Loser; the best way to eventually get what you want is to let the other bloke save face so that you can properly discuss what he needs to enable you to get what you want. Bullying and blustering and making threats is not the way to go.

this long-planned meeting

First suggested in when, March? Does Trump know what 'long-planned' means?

that statement in which Pyongyang also condemned U.S. Vice President Mike Pence as a "political dummy" was "the last straw."

He's a politician, and he's a dummy. When you're in negotiations, you don't threaten the other guy with the same fate as Gaddafi.

Trump can play this game all year long and the third fatty isn't going to get away with anything this time.

The world is watching what President Trump spells out in "The Art of the Deal".

Anyway, thanks, NK, for returning our three hostages and blowing up your nuclear test site all without us sending them pallets of cash on unmarked aircraft in the middle of the night.

Winning

pallets of cash

That was their own money being returned

6 ( +6 / -0 )

North Korea seemed to be dropping hints about backing out of the summit anyway. So it's not surprising that Trump called it off before NK could.

Trump is making it clear that he's not going to go into this summit from a position of weakness. Good on him.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

People shouting for the Nobel price have to attention of spaniels, they’ll move on to anything DT will oil from his hat.

I had hopes this could be fruitful but DT shouldn’t waste too much time on NK as they have proven not being serious on commitments in the past.

NK “won” by painting The US not being the reasonable party in the talks.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Ronald Reagan walked away from Gorbachev over SDI in Iceland in the 1980s. The NWO leftists and the RINOs were just as fit to be tied then as they are with President Trump now. Then, Gorbachev knew President Reagan meant business and begged to sit down with him. The world is witnessing history repeating itself as Little Kim is now begging for a summit with President Trump.

Winning!!!

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

"You talk about your nuclear capabilities, but ours are so massive and powerful that I pray to God that they will never have to be used," [Trump] said.

Seriously! Get this frikking child out of the kitchen before he burns the house down. US voters should have never even considered welcoming this abomination into office.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

so trump and trump supporter logic believes failure is the same as success :-/

oh well losing is the new winning in this Twilight zone we’re living in.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

North Korea seemed to be dropping hints about backing out of the summit anyway. So it's not surprising that Trump called it off before NK could.

Is that any surprise? You've got politicians sledging him about his plane before he even embarked on any journey. Kim may be no saint, but the other sides certainly didn't set any shining example. In fact, their actions were so childish, it makes me ashamed that those politicians represent 'the free world'.

Trump is making it clear that he's not going to go into this summit from a position of weakness. Good on him.

What weakness? Kim makes solid gestures - returns prisoners, decommisions facilities, and proposes to negotiate, even with all the embargoes and surrounded by US military threats.

What peaceful gestures have US and Japan made? ......... zero!

6 ( +7 / -1 )

I had hopes this could be fruitful but DT shouldn’t waste too much time on NK as they have proven not being serious on commitments in the past.

NK “won” by painting The US not being the reasonable party in the talks.

I agree and to Cleo’s original point, talks should be simple, but in all seriousness it cannot happen when you have a country like North Korea is threatening it’s neighbors and threatening to US with Nuclear destruction, it just will not be tolerated. Again, a red flag was noticed when the North Korean delegates didn’t show up in Singapore the other day, which I dictates, you leave me standing for a few days, what is anyone supposed to think? I would immediately take from that, you are not at all interested, therefore there is no reason to take you serious on these talks.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

but in all seriousness it cannot happen when you have a country like North Korea is threatening it’s neighbors and threatening to US with Nuclear destruction, it just will not be tolerated.

Riiight! It's only OK for the US to threaten people... and then actually carry that out like we have seen on repeat for the last 75 years... In many respects, Kim has more credibility than Trump and his loonies.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Which points in this thread are supposed 'talking points' that came from CNN? Specifics please.

The reply:

You can read it yourself. CNN.com big huge letters "Kim still willing to meet Trump".

I didn't ask about CNN, I asked what points in this thread are talking points from CNN.

Now, if you didnt know better you would think that is pro-Trump. But actually the talking points are "blame Trump for being the one not willing to meet".

I haven't seen CNN in months, and I am blaming Trump for not being willing to meet. In fact, the only place I've read it was here, and I blamed Trump for not being willing to meet. And before I even read any other comments on this thread, I had blamed Trump for not being willing to meet.

Your assertion that this is a talking point that comes from some mystical overlord named CNN is ridiculous - blaming Trump for canceling the meeting is the natural thought that comes when Trump cancels the meeting. It's not something that needs directing or forcing.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

could find a news link on that, do you have one?

http://www.businessinsider.com/north-korea-missed-meeting-with-u-s-officials-2018-5

"Perhaps no Trump administration official is more invested than Mike Pompeo in the U.S. effort to strike a nuclear deal with North Korea."

There are some loons that might think that, I agree.

"The new secretary of state has been President Donald Trump’s point man on dealing with Pyongyang.

That’s his job.

He has traveled twice to meet with North Korea’s reclusive leader and intends to lead the U.S. side of any future nuclear negotiation."

Again, that’s his job.

"Yet this week, Pompeo found himself in a spot all too familiar to other Trump aides: out of sync with the president."

That happens in talk negotiations.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Hi Zichi - Just for your information, here is a Bloomberg article which describes how the North Koreans did not show up last week.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-05-24/trump-calls-cancellation-of-kim-summit-setback-for-world

"A senior administration official later downplayed the idea that the meeting could be put back on track for June 12. The North Koreans, the official said, have recently stopped cooperating on preparations for the summit. For example, U.S. officials traveled to Singapore last week expecting to meet with North Korean counterparts, but the North Koreans never showed up.

“They stood us up,” the official said at a briefing for reporters conducted on condition of anonymity."

2 ( +2 / -0 )

The teachable moment here is that we finally have an administration that is willing to walk away until the main and only reason for such meeting (denuclearization of the Korean peninsula) is achieved.

Now, Little Kim has blinked. President Trump will return to the table only if Kim accepts our demands.

We hold the cards, not them.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Why would BLAME be the instinctive response when a meeting is cancelled?

Your boss cancelled a meeting once Im sure. Did you immediately blame him/her, question their motives for cancelling it, and then start mocking them? Nope, Im sure you didnt.

The meeting will be scheduled again soon enough and in fact might still happen on the scheduled date.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

@Zichi - you are welcome. Who knows what will happen next?

What worries me is the chicken hawk Bolton is now in the administration and he has quite a bad history

5 ( +5 / -0 )

yes, thank you for the news links got that one. Warning sign but not enough to cancel the summit in itself and the U.S. delegation was going back to Singapore today, Friday.

No, they never showed up, a clear indication and by the way, it’s not like this is the first time, we have had 30 years experience dealing with this regime, so we know when we are being played and Trump was right to cancel. They need us definitely more than we need them.

I guess there won't be any summit this year or Nobel Peace prizes but South Korean President Moon still looking for a way forward.

So what now, a return to the same old rhetoric of country bashing?

Well, the NK are desperate, so they will come to the talks or at least try to.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

The NWO leftists

I'm surprised anti-Semitic comments like this still get by.

President Trump will return to the table only if Kim accepts our demands. We hold the cards, not them.

This is the problem when people in both the US and the DPRK believe that their leader is infallible. A continuing credo which could result in the mutual destruction of both countries.

I do wonder what kind of mindset is so utterly committed to this horrific path that they are willing to applaud this disasterous move on the part of the Trump administration.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Real estate prices along the Chinese border with N. Korea had risen 50% a week or two ago, bet that caught both Trump & Kim off guard, so a few words between them, followed by an announcement, the real-estate prices tank, and now look quite interesting for both.... bet Trump is giving Kim a few useful tips on the Real-estate business's Pump and Dump then make a Killing approach.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Why would BLAME be the instinctive response when a meeting is cancelled?

Because he canceled it, and it was his own fault that it fell apart. Kim got pissy when the US and SK held anti-NK war games right in front of NK, right when they are talking peace. It all went downhill from there, and now they're off. So yeah, blame is the instinctive response. Those who aren't sheep that have true faith and believe without question are naturally going to come to the conclusion that it's Trump's fault they fell apart.

You guys were so quick to give him credit before he'd actually done anything, and now you're so quick to try to distance him from it when he ended up screwing it up. You can't have it both ways. Either he owns it, or he doesn't. Problem is, when you gave him credit, you gave him ownership. Now you aren't liking the other side of that ownership.

The meeting will be scheduled again soon enough and in fact might still happen on the scheduled date.

There is literally nothing whatsoever from the backgrounds of either Trump nor NK that would support this faith you express, and therefore it's little different than a prayer to the gods.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Actally, they didn’t, Kim was the one that started thinking that he can call the shots on this. no NK can call the shot dont forgot there a Nuke power also, it was Trump and his goons that stated that NK must de-nuke first before any concessions take place. Americas word is like a piece of toilet paper theyll flush any agreement whenever they see fit, I dont blame NK one bit for demanding concessions must go hand in hand with de-nuking. If I was dealing with Trump Id get everything in writing signed by Trump himself with the option to restart nuke development if America doesn't abide by it agreements and vise versa for NK, and that goes for any future president.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Now, Little Kim has blinked. President Trump will return to the table only if Kim accepts our demands.

We hold the cards, not them.

We can hope.

But I'm even more skeptical than I was than when they announced they'd meet the first time. I thought it was Kim that would walk away, but with equally big sized egos, it doesn't surprise me it was Trump.

Personally I'm just seeing NK playing the US the same way it's been playing the game for decades. I don't think NK ever had any intention of meeting Trump in the first place, which is why it's not at all surprising to me that they are not meeting now, and why it was so premature to have made all these silly claims of 'winning' and 'success' before anything had been achieved. And in that exact same regard, you people look just as silly now claiming 'winning' and 'success', before anything has been achieved.

Today's fun fact: No one wins, and there is no success, until something has been successfully won. Right now, not only has there been no success towards winning for any side, Trump just moved the marker back a step further than it was at yesterday, in the wrong direction. We're further away from success than we were. So maybe you guys should stop being all silly with these claims. If/when Trump is actually successful, praise away. I will.

How many petards can one man hoist?? Karma has a habit of doing that

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Another move in the giant chess game... yep except the chess pieces are nukes

3 ( +4 / -1 )

But that's what happens when you boast about it and allow Bolton to make the Libya comparison and Pence to repeat the threat. and then cancel the nuke deal with Iran, seriously Kim may be a lot of things but hes not a moron, Trump has made Americas word a roll of toilet paper would you sign anything written on it!

6 ( +6 / -0 )

*We hold the cards, not them. **yeah and America thought that in Iraq, now a know terrorist and killer of American soldiers has just been elected their president. next up NK and Iran. It seems everything America touches just turns into a huge festering swamp or turmoil.*

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Wow, Spin City in overdrive on this one! Trump "cancelled" the summit? Uh, no, actually -- what happened was that first John Bolton and second Mike Pence sledgehammered it into a trillion fragments. As usual, unqualified and unaccomplished members of the Trump administration, not knowing what to do (especially in foreign affairs) made a complete mess of things. Notice the contrast to North Korea's skillfull reply to the "cancellation" -- putting the ball straight back into Trump's court. Oh, Mr Trump -- Mr Mueller will see you now!!

6 ( +6 / -0 )

This is the problem when people in both the US and the DPRK believe that their leader is infallible. A continuing credo which could result in the mutual destruction of both countries.

No one thinks Trump is perfect, but you have to be a complete idiot to allow Kim to think he has the upper hand in this and can dictate the terms.

I do wonder what kind of mindset is so utterly committed to this horrific path that they are willing to applaud this disasterous move on the part of the Trump administration.

The path of denuclearization of NK.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Wow, Spin City in overdrive on this one! Trump "cancelled" the summit? Uh, no, actually -- what happened was that first John Bolton and second Mike Pence sledgehammered it into a trillion fragments.

Kim knows full well, he has to completely and unconditionally denuclearize or there won’t be any talks. If he didn’t know that, then he’s dumber than he looks.

As usual, unqualified and unaccomplished members of the Trump administration, not knowing what to do (especially in foreign affairs) made a complete mess of things. Notice the contrast to North Korea's skillfull reply to the "cancellation" -- putting the ball straight back into Trump's court. Oh, Mr Trump -- Mr Mueller will see you now.

Unqualified, the last 3 Presidents appeased and capitulated to Kim, gave him concessions and believed for over 25 years the country will stop proliferation and they did the opposite, Trump approached this in a totally different way, he won’t give a inch to Kim on this, nor should he. And for all the boasting they have been doing over the last 24 hours, they want to re-join the talks, imagine that.

-4 ( +3 / -7 )

Trump has made Americas word a roll of toilet paper would you sign anything written on it!

What a dreadful shame that this summit is dead in the water. Millions of people around the world, for a few brief weeks, were optimistic and positive for a brighter future.

But no. Ego, threats and hawkish "diplomacy" saw for that.

These two rogue nations need reining in before its too late.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

Bottom line... who would benefit most from a North / South reconciliation? You know South Korea isn't about to change its capitalistic free ways so the country overall would have to lean towards a U.S. style of Government and Culture. So yes... in addition to the North and South Korean's, over time, benefiting, the U.S. would benefit too because their toe hold on the peninsula would continue while China's would decrease. So the USA is not trying to sabotage the armistice they want peace. Now China.... do you think they want a combined Korea leaning toward the USA directly on their border. No they do not... and they're willing to pay North Korea to keep things the same. This is Kim Jong Un working towards a nice payoff from China.

It was the rhetoric of NK

It was Trump's decision to allow Bolton and Pence to talk tough to their base. Trump should have left all talking to the professionals and behind doors. NK starting making boasts after hearing Bolton stroking himself on Sunday TV.

The so-called ultimate negotiator was only concerned with how the summit would affect him and how to publicize it. Printing coins was a good idea? Dumb, Dumb Dumb, but normal for Trump.

Of course NK knows about Saddam and Khadafi and now Iran. NK may be a lot of things, but they come off as more reasonable than Trump. Of course, it is an effort, but at least they can sound reasonable when they want to. Trump has no hope of sounding reasonable.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Like how? Not allowing inspectors in and thinking blowing up a site is great politics is neither smart nor convincing.

Like, calling Trump on Bolton's comments, Pence's comments, war games. The only thing Trump did publicly besides pat himself on the back was call off the B52s during the wargames.

The intelligence services, which the likes of you don't believe anyway, already said that the facility caved in on itself and was worthless. No one believed inspectors were any value at a bomb testing site. It was all a show, and everyone knew it.

Amazing how you bring your A game at twisting facts and reality. Unbelievable.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Like, calling Trump on Bolton's comments, Pence's comments, war games. The only thing Trump did publicly besides pat himself on the back was call off the B52s during the wargames.

That was the Pentagon and that’s something that doesn’t involve Trump, take it up with SK and the Pentagon.

The intelligence services, which the likes of you don't believe anyway, already said that the facility caved in on itself and was worthless.

So why weren’t the inspectors allowed? Go ahead, give it your best liberal spin, please.

No one believed inspectors were any value at a bomb testing site. It was all a show, and everyone knew it.

Uh-huh...ROFL! Ok, you believe that.

Amazing how you bring your A game at twisting facts and reality. Unbelievable.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Guys, he's done this in the business world as well. He says he will make a deal with somebody, then asks that person to do something as a "show of good faith" and after they do it he just cancels the deal. Why did good ol Donny cancel this deal? Probably has something to do with that walking talking "I want war with everyone" drone Bolton if you ask me

1 ( +1 / -0 )

So why weren’t the inspectors allowed? Go ahead, give it your best liberal spin, please.

I'm only commenting because of the absurdity of the conclusions.

Bomb making site and a bomb testing site.

One is a place where bombs are made, it is important and extremely difficult to create. NK has done nothing in this area, which is where inspectors are useful.

One is a place where bombs are set off, it is not important and easy to create by drilling a hole in the ground.

Not me, homie. Something I would never do or believe in.

I needed a good laugh. You are worse than Pravda, which also makes me suspicious.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

What I find funny is, one dictator is telling the other one to scrap all its nukes, whilst the other one gets to keep all of its nukes, then they send big war ships in there direction in a show of strength, the USA "Reminds" NK of fate of Libya, no wonder NK is saying we need our nukes to defend our selfs against the USA who they see as aggressors, until DT backs off with the aggression and threats they will never meet. but I hope they all do meet and sit around a table and talk.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Absurdity? Really?

Bomb making site and a bomb testing site.

One is a place where bombs are made, it is important and extremely difficult to create. NK has done nothing in this area, which is where inspectors are useful.

Ok, now I heard your spin, now let me ask you, if the NK true intentions are really and deeply honest and from the heart, why not cast all doubts aside and for good measure allow inspectors in to verify the sites? For one thing it takes the suspicion from everyone’s mind that doubts them and then they can prove without a doubt that they mean what they say and their word can be trusted. Not hard to do.

One is a place where bombs are set off, it is not important and easy to create by drilling a hole in the ground.

Which is unacceptable. Now we know the left loves making excuses for bad behavior and NK should be held accountable.

-8 ( +0 / -8 )

Our we talking about the same Trump, because the one I know is the Commander-in-Chief of all the American armed forces and carries with him the nuke bomb suitcase. Daily intelligence updates from the CIA, NSA, Pentagon.

He would have had daily briefings about the American-South Korean exercises.

Exactly, he can’t just sit there and called off just because he wants to, it doesn’t work like that. These drills take time to set up and it would take time, long time to alter or make changes to halt them.

Why would inspectors be needed for something as simple as blowing up the tunnels which was witnessed by reporters, shown on TV, and like I said the satellite images will prove it or not.

Why not? Remember, we are talking about North Korea, the country that has received so many presidents in the past, a country that is known for being a Habitual liar.

Are you saying you don't believe your own American reporters?

The majority of them, No and especially the Trump hating media scum, most definitely not.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

Which is unacceptable.

What is unacceptable? A show put on by NK, that you (and only you) believed the show, or your false incredulity about the show?

Negotiations take time, it is known. NK has always been slippery, which makes negotiations more difficult.

Releasing three individuals was also a show, that you (and Trump) touted as a revelation and testament to Trump's vigor. Just a show put on by NK and maybe a little foreplay at a small small chance at real peace negotiations.

For one thing it takes the suspicion from everyone’s mind that doubts them and then they can prove without a doubt that they mean what they say and their word can be trusted. Not hard to do.

One of the most nieve things you have written.

You went straight for the dessert without eating your veggies and blamed the cook for the stomach ache.

Why does the article miss out what was said by Trump's adviser and Mike Pence? It was their statements (plus Trump eating his own foot) that scuppered this...

"Sadly, based on the tremendous anger and open hostility displayed in your most recent statement, I feel it would be inappropriate, at this time, to have this long-planned meeting," Trump wrote.

And you wonder why they were angry? From what I've read it boils down to Bolton banging on about the 'Libya Model' of denuclearisation. This from the BBC...

The story of the summit's collapse, however, ultimately began with Trump's national security adviser, John Bolton, who had worked to raise expectations for what concessions the US should expect from North Korea to stratospheric levels.

Mr Bolton had built a maximalist "denuclearization" objective, seeking a deal at the Singapore meeting that would see North Korea turn over all its weapons of mass destruction - not only its nuclear weapons, but also its chemical and biological weapons.

And...

His maximalist conception of what the United States should seek came to be known as the 'Libya model,' after the 2003 disarmament process that saw late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi deprived of his nascent nuclear program. North Korea has long dreaded any comparisons to Libya and has said as much in recent statements.

The moment the summit became doomed was when President Trump, speaking off the cuff, confused the 2003 "Libya model" of disarmament with the 2011 US-led intervention in Libya - a move that led directly to the demise of Muammar Gaddafi.

This is what Kim Jong-un learned from Libya's experience: that agreeing to disarm at the behest of the United States will sooner or later lead to his end.

North Korea effectively saw Trump's comment as a threat. US Vice-President Mike Pence's decision to support Mr Trump's interpretation in a separate interview made it appear as if the president's off-the-cuff comment was a considered a US policy position - that should Kim come to Singapore and do anything other than submit to US demands, he would face US military action.

This is the link to the article... JT should have gone into a bit more depth in my view...

The master negotiator here is Kim.

Unlike any president before him, Trump legitimized the North Korea regime on the world stage, the US showed that they wanted the meeting more than him. He outsmarted them all, I wonder what deals he got through those undisclosed talks with South Korea & China. On top of that, Moon backed away from taking any credit for the meeting, knowing full well this will probably not happen. Even embarrassed Trump further by putting in the minds of his supporters the idea of a Nobel Peace prize.

Now it looks as though he LOST a Nobel Peace prize

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Ok, now I heard your spin, now let me ask you, if the NK true intentions are really and deeply honest and from the heart, why not cast all doubts aside and for good measure allow inspectors in to verify the sites? For one thing it takes the suspicion from everyone’s mind that doubts them and then they can prove without a doubt that they mean what they say and their word can be trusted. Not hard to do.

Dude, unless you are about 19 years old or younger - you would know that that excuse was used to pile-drive Iraq almost out of existence. If I were at the helm, I certainly wouldn't want UN or US "weapons inspectors" coming in to reign all hell on me and my people. Seriously.

If you really are that young or ignorant of recent history - perhaps you have no horse in this race?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

What is unacceptable? A show put on by NK, that you (and only you) believed the show, or your false incredulity about the show?

Hey! Not just me! Apparently, the WH and most Republicans don’t take Kim at face value, Dems do, our enemies can make any unbelievable promise and like Goofy, theyll follow and believe it.

Negotiations take time, it is known. NK has always been slippery, which makes negotiations more difficult.

Exactly! You just made my point for me, that’s why Trump, Bolton and Mattis did the right thing. Keep the pressure on, don’t take your knee off their necks.

Releasing three individuals was also a show, that you (and Trump) touted as a revelation and testament to Trump's vigor.

They shouldn’t have been contained anyway.

Just a show put on by NK and maybe a little foreplay at a small small chance at real peace negotiations.

Uh-huh....lol

One of the most nieve things you have written.

You went straight for the dessert without eating your veggies and blamed the cook for the stomach ache.

Liberals reall should stay away from humor. You and Strange. ROFL

Hey! Not just me! Apparently, the WH and most Republicans don’t take Kim at face value, Dems do, our enemies can make any unbelievable promise and like Goofy, theyll follow and believe it.

ROFL!! You believed you were getting a meeting. Trump believed it, all his supporters believed it, others hoped for it but were wary because of the past. Yep... you really do humour well!!

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Exactly! You just made my point for me, that’s why Trump, Bolton and Mattis did the right thing. Keep the pressure on, don’t take your knee off their necks.

I've never seen a negotiation played out in public.

So, they did the wrong thing by talking smug on TV, even Trump was toning it down, which was shocking in itself.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

With NK and Iran, there is no other way.

Replace that with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, yes there is no other way.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

gaijinpapa, I completely agree.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Most people here don’t seem to understand the situation in Korea - both the extent of the pure evil Kim is capable of to his own people, and also the state of the country BECAUSE of the sanctions Trump got out in place.

thats why Kim is trying to be the man of peace.

You all keep saying Kim has played Trump.

No, Kim has played liberal media and the people who echo it.

Okay, I’ll put this out like I did with Trumo’s election.

The NK situation will be solved this year.

and it will be because of the Trump administration..

caveat. I don’t think Trump is infallible and I don’t care about Nobel prizes. Haven’t since Arafat got one)

i also think many many people here must be either very young or know very little about the history of North Korea.

And kudos to the one who mentioned Reagan walking out .

JT commentators seem like they want to be selected as in the North Korea cheerleading team sometimes.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

If you can’t tell that Kim is desperate you don’t know much.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

ROFL!! You believed you were getting a meeting.

There was always a presence of a slight doubt. Interesting you think it’s funny. If NK is possible vaporized, you may not be laughing so much.

Trump believed it, all his supporters believed it, others hoped for it but were wary because of the past. Yep... you really do humour well!!

Ok, so Europeans don’t think we should have or even attempt to try and have peace, no wonder Dems aren’t in charge of anything. Wow!

Replace that with Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, yes there is no other way

They both called for the complete destruction of the US? Well, I will say this, keep your friends close and keep your enemies.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

No, Kim has played liberal media and the people who echo it.

Ahh the old 'liberal media' bleating again. The so-called MSM is not a liberal media, it is a capitalist media. They post the stories that get readership. Most of the world leans liberal, and therefore the stories that get the most readership, and therefore the most money for the media, appeal to liberals. The media is not doing this out of some political ideology - if the people wanted to read more conservative articles, they media would post more of them.

Now that all said, Kim has played the world media, and the court of public opinion. Because he's smart enough to know that's the game. He plays that game better than Trump, who instead of understanding how to make the media make him look good, keeps trying to fight against them as if he can win.

Kim won this round. And he did it by playing the game better than Trump.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

There was always a presence of a slight doubt.

That didn't stop you guys from going on about 'winning', 'success' and 'nobel prize', even though nothing had actually happened, and now you are claiming was not guaranteed to.

so Europeans don’t think we should have or even attempt to try and have peace,

Interesting tactic you have there. Make up something no one said, and then manufacture anger about that thing you made up.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Ahh the old 'liberal media' bleating again. The so-called MSM is not a liberal media, it is a capitalist media.

That are overwhelmingly Democrat or like in Lawrence O’Donnell’s case a committed socialist.

if the people wanted to read more conservative articles, they media would post more of them.

No, it’s just that they have had a monopoly on the industry for over 50 years, that’s when one day in the mid 90’s Ailes came up with a brilliant idea to counter that with a news network that would cater to conservatives and that’s when FNC was born. Conservatives also have done better in print and radio where they dominate.

Kim won this round. And he did it by playing the game better than Trump.

Kim didn’t win anything, he’s still hemorrhaging money and still came back to the table, he wants a end to the sanctions, we don’t have sanctions on us. If Kim behaves, we can talk, if he doesn’t, then the noose tightens.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

If NK is possible vaporized, you may not be laughing so much.

Vaporization hasn't been the U.S. policy. MAD has been. More talk tough branding from the world of Trump.

I seriously doubt nuclear weapons would even be used after a bio or chem attack, which has been touted as a reason to use nukes, NBC (nuclear, biological, chemical). I would seriously question whether a nuclear retaliatory strike would be used against NK unless there was a very strong tactical benefit. Why send your army into fallout?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

That are overwhelmingly Democrat

Why would the world media be affiliated with an American political ideology. That's ridiculous. You can protect yourself from it by wrapping your head in tinfoil apparently though - maybe give that a try.

Kim didn’t win anything

The very fact that people are saying he did, shows he did. As a smaller power, NK won't win the bomb game, they can only with in the court of public opinion, and to do that, they need to cast enough doubt on the US that people blame the US. And look what's happening, people are blaming the US.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Kim is aware that North Korea as we know it cannot sustain itself into the 21st century.

He is desperate. These are just moves as Kim and Trump jockey for position.

Trump is playing it right.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Why would the world media be affiliated with an American political ideology.

My bad, didn’t realize you were talking about the rest of the world. But to elaborate more in detail, the rest of the world media doesn’t have to be affiliated with American politics to bash it, as if it really matters what they think anyway.

The very fact that people are saying he did, shows he did.

Not at all, he got nothing from him, oh Wynnewood has been having the sanctions released and allowing him to retain his funds, that didn’t happen, the only thing he will get is stronger hard hitting sanctions and also as Trump called off the talks, he also said, he called, Mattis. So if there’s a possibility Kim could get a Tomahawk in his breakfast is a win, then who ami to argue?

As a smaller power, NK won't win the bomb game, they can only with in the court of public opinion, and to do that, they need to cast enough doubt on the US that people blame the US.

I get it, the underdog factor, but that’s not going to stop the US or particularly Mattis, Pompeo and Bolton to take the necessary actions they feel might be necessary in order to make NK comply should it come to that.

And look what's happening, people are blaming the US.

So what else is new? I mean, honestly?

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Interesting you think it’s funny. If NK is possible vaporized, you may not be laughing so much.

It's funny you think I think it's funny. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. It's also funny you never picked up on that.

Ok, so Europeans don’t think we should have or even attempt to try and have peace, no wonder Dems aren’t in charge of anything. Wow!

I'm not European or Democrat... and nobody said anything of the sort. It's ridiculous you suggesting Democrats would be taken for suckers when that's exactly how Trump is making him and his supporters look. Everything announced by Trump and his supporters re the summit with Kim was premature and it's subsequent failure makes the current adminstration look entirely stupid.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

It's funny you think I think it's funny. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. It's also funny you never picked up on that.

I did, that’s the irony. I was born awhile ago, not 2 hours ago.

I'm not European or Democrat... and nobody said anything of the sort.

You’re not a conservative either.

It's ridiculous you suggesting Democrats would be taken for suckers

Actually, it really isn’t.

when that's exactly how Trump is making him and his supporters look.

I think you already know his supporters really don’t care.

Everything announced by Trump and his supporters re the summit with Kim was premature and it's subsequent failure makes the current adminstration look entirely stupid.

Hey, he got 3 hostages, and a nuke site destroyed and Kim is coming back to the talks. Doesn’t seem stupid to me.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

If you can’t tell that Kim is desperate you don’t know much. and people who are desperate do irrational things, but Trump and his goons just keep poking that hornets nest. Kim would prefer self annihilation than give up power. Is trump ready to sacrifice a nuke strike from the Nth on America, SK or even Japan to get what he wants. Or will he grow up and and negotiate concessions that are acceptable for both NK AMerica and SK.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Hey, he got 3 hostages, done before by Obama in larger numbers

and a nuke site destroyed done before by Kims father and it was just rebuilt afterwards

and Kim is coming back to the talks.  Kims father did that on a number of different occasions also, then he died.

so basically just more of the same, except this time we got a commemorative coin out of it.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

I did, that’s the irony. I was born awhile ago, not 2 hours ago.

Then act like it.

You’re not a conservative either.

Never said I was.

Actually, it really isn't

True. Just the suggestion is.

I think you already know his supporters really don’t care.

I think you know they do... that's why you're always here trying to defend him.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

@Strangerland No, but journalists are overwhelmingly liberal and hate Trump.

Would you like some links to YouTube videos about Election Day showing the evolution from mocking and laughing to crying and raging?

@wtfjapan

You mean like in 2016 when Obama

“delivered a stern warning to North Korea on Tuesday, reminding its “erratic” and “irresponsible” leader that America’s nuclear arsenal could “destroy” his country.”

my my. Not a very peaceful way of talking to a hornet...“

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Hey, he got 3 hostages, done before by Obama in larger numbers

Obama didn’t even come this close to pushing Kim, oh, wait, he got pushed always.

and a nuke site destroyed done before by Kims father and it was just rebuilt afterwards

All the reason to be skeptical as to why they didn’t allow inspectors on the site and why Trump is being more cautious because without verification and full denuclearization, there will be No concessions because of the past.

and Kim is coming back to the talks. Kims father did that on a number of different occasions also, then he died.

So you’re saying Kim might die? Well, that would be some upbeat news then.

so basically just more of the same, except this time we got a commemorative coin out of it.

No, because No President had put the kind of sanctions and conditions on NK the way that Bolton, Mattis, Pompeo and Trump have been doing. With the sanctions squeezing him like a lemon, he’s boxed in, so sooner or later, he has to come to the table and in the meantime, we have all the time in the world.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Then act like it.

So what’s the liberals excuse?

Never said I was.

Well, there you go. Lol

True. Just the suggestion is.

Hey, just calling it out, don’t hate the messenger, hate the message.

I think you know they do... that's why you're always here trying to defend him.

Like the haters do as well, that’s why the constant barrage of futile attacks, right? Lol

So what’s the liberals excuse?

You're implying I was talking about conservatives... I wasn't. Please follow the conversation.

Well, there you go.

Yes. Let's finish that.

Hey, just calling it out, don’t hate the messenger, hate the message.

Seriously? Please follow the conversation.

Like the haters do as well, that’s why the constant barrage of futile attacks, right?

Yes, I'm sure the "haters" don't like their country being made to look stupid.... but that's besides the point. You said the supporters don't care, now your response implies agreement and because you can't argue it you throw in an irrelevant comment about "haters." Let's finish that too.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

You're implying I was talking about conservatives... I wasn't. Please follow the conversation

I did, so you weren’t talking about liberals, so....

Seriously? Please follow the conversation.

I was, so as I said, I was calling it as I see it.

Yes, I'm sure the "haters" don't like their country being made to look stupid....

Then they don’t need to undermine the President every 2 min. for even just breathing.

but that's besides the point. You said the supporters don't care, now your response implies agreement and because you can't argue it you throw in an irrelevant comment about "haters." Let's finish that too.

No, it was on point. The haters have nothing else to do, but hate, they don’t have any solutions to these vexing problems geopolitically, maybe if they spent less time whining and bring out candidates that can bring something to the table, the left wouldn’t see their numbers coming closer to the Republicans. Their lead is shrinking and one part of this is the minute to minute barrage attacks on the President. This is 1998 all over again, they’re giving a lot of ammo to the President and still don’t get it. Too funny.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

I did, so you weren’t talking about liberals,

No I wasn't. But you never picked up on what I was actually talking about.

I was, so as I said, I was calling it as I see it.

Which was wrong.

Then they don’t need to undermine the President every 2 min. for even just breathing.

They don't. They undermine him for being stupid.

No, it was not on point. It's a tangent. It's quite simple. You come here to defend him looking stupid which shows that as a supporter you do care when you said supporters don't. Either way now you've painted yourself into a corner and your pants are on fire.

Yes the problems are vexing geopolitically. There have been no solutions from either party, republicans or democrats. Maybe if Trump could stop trying to attack the opposition, stop trying to cover his tracks or divert attention when things get a little tough and actually face things head on, people might respect him a little more and come to the table for more reasonable discussion. Maybe something could actually get done. If the summit still happens then I'll say well done Trump but the support team deserves criticism for claiming a win on something that hasn't happened.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

No I wasn't.

You weren’t talking about conservatives.

They don't. They undermine him for being stupid.

This is why the lefts margin is closing, getting tighter to conservatives because, they don’t get it, now if they WERE smart....lol

No, it was not on point.

The left haven’t been on point for the last 9 years.

It's a tangent. It's quite simple. You come here to defend him looking stupid which shows that as a supporter you do care when you said supporters don't. Either way now you've painted yourself into a corner and your pants are on fire.

My pants are what? I defend the President because I support his policies, you don’t and you think as a supporter, I have to see things in the way you do? If that were so then I wouldn’t be a supporter of the President or his policies.

Yes the problems are vexing geopolitically. There have been no solutions from either party, republicans or democrats.

Especially Democrats, California should be a role model for that.

Maybe if Trump could stop trying to attack the opposition,

Maybe if the left would stop whining and attacking the President for commenting on the setting sun, these people are their own self-enemies.

stop trying to cover his tracks or divert attention when things get a little tough and actually face things head on, people might respect him a little more and come to the table for more reasonable discussion.

Well, all politicians do that, even my kids will deflect, that’s just human nature.

Maybe something could actually get done.

Tell that to the Democrats, they need to hear it.

If the summit still happens then I'll say well done Trump but the support team deserves criticism for claiming a win on something that hasn't happened.

It was a win. Kim is on sanctions, he’s running out of money, more sanctions could be coming. That’s a huge win.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

You weren’t talking about conservatives.

Correct. Or democrats. Look a little closer.

The left haven’t been on point for the last 9 years.

I have a dog... Do you see how it's possible to be irrelevant without an attack?

My pants are what? I defend the President because I support his policies, you don’t and you think as a supporter, I have to see things in the way you do? If that were so then I wouldn’t be a supporter of the President or his policies

You can support whoever you want. That is not the point. The point is you said one thing and went against it afterwards because it was proved otherwise and then continually try to paint yourself out of it using irrelevant comments...

Especially Democrats, California should be a role model for that.

Especially both. But feel free to attack again... so good at doing what you accuse others of.

Maybe if the left would stop whining and attacking the President for commenting on the setting sun, these people are their own self-enemies.

They don't. They attack him for making America look stupid. All politicians have their critics. Most don't act like petulant children.

Well, all politicians do that, even my kids will deflect, that’s just human nature.

OK. Then it needs to be understood that investigations take longer because of such deflection. Don't complain about that anymore.

Tell that to the Democrats, they need to hear it.

A lot of people need to hear a lot of things. Why aren't they allowed to oppose when they are in opposition? That's what opposition is.

It was a win. Kim is on sanctions, he’s running out of money, more sanctions could be coming. That’s a huge win.

But this point was about the summit. Whether the rest is a win or not is irrelevant.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

unconditionally denuclearize or there won’t be any talks. If he didn’t know that, then he’s dumber than he looks. no Trump and his goons are dumber than they look,. why would NK unconditionally denuke, what is America going to do!? Sanctions can only go far and it certainly hasn't stopped NK from making the bomb. Kim isnt as dumb as he looks , Americas threats have worker for squat the last 25+yrs throughout the middle east, its still a festering quagmire. What does Trump think will happen short of going to war, war already been tried and failed and that was against adversaries that didn't have nukes.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Sanctions have gone further than ever before, and it’s what has resulted in Kim’s willingness to talk.

he wants to talk and make a deal. He also wants to save face.

nobody has been able to achieve a good result yet. Trump will.

Things will be totally different by the end of the year. Pity Trump has to deal with so much opposition from his own country. It’s almost treasonous.

(Calm down - I said “almost”)

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

So what’s happened so far.

First Trump convinced everyone to place sanctions against NK on a level not seen before.

Second, Kim knowing his country is finished makes overtures of peace , meets his SK counterpart for the first time in decades and says he wants to talk.

Third, Kim’s people don’t turn up for preliminary meetings as promised in Singapore and he publicly insults. So it looks like there’s no summit if NK has stopped talking.

Fourth, in response Trump says “Okay then , no summit, “

Fifth, Kim says no no no I want to talk and meets his SK counterpart again, knowing at every week he puts off talks his country spirals further into chaos and the probability of revolt increases.

So here we are at stage six. Trump maganaminously (see what I did there?) says okay let’s meet and says the team is going ahead and the US side will be waiting for the June 12 meeting.

So now what? If in the next two weeks Kim calls it off, he’s the belligerent one and sanctions stay or get tighter. And he can’t do anything militarily or it’s the end for him.

So - things are going swimmingly . Really they are. For the first time in decades, the US is relating the way they should.

Ps I wasn’t surprised that Kim came back.

So I’ll do a Crazy Joe ....

let it be gazetted. Within a few months historic decisions will be made. And Trump will say nice things about Kim.

And it will all be because of a businessman and some tough military people working on it - NOT because of experienced politicians and academics.

Watch and learn.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

But to elaborate more in detail, the rest of the world media doesn’t have to be affiliated with American politics to bash it, as if it really matters what they think anyway.

This comment illustrates the danger and belligerence of the (all too common) far right-leaning voter of our times. As if getting Trumps in Bushes in is not bad enough...

America is NOT the center of the world. And American politics affects the rest of the world, even though (thanks to a toothless UN) we have no input or control over it.

Please stop trashing the Earth with your warmongering.
