Err. Wouldn't "Just Do it" be more appropriate?

6 ( +7 / -1 )

On June 8, 2018 the president said that his wife had been ordered, by her physicians, to avoid air travel for another month. So either she is extra-heroic, or her husband was lying.

18 ( +21 / -3 )

Well that’s as big a flip as Trump has ever flopped.

It’s a good flip though.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

He was lying.

13 ( +15 / -2 )

It was in the 80s and humid in Maryland that day. Definitely not a message.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

Might have been just a thoughtless wardrobe choice, but it so clearly encapsulates the thinking from the Trump kingdom on....basically everything that affects people who aren’t wealthy.

9 ( +12 / -3 )

A tone-deaf sartorial decision -- or a hidden message from the first lady? And if so, to whom?

A hidden message? No, I think it's more like "just hasn't got a clue" - like her self centered husband...

9 ( +13 / -4 )

not the best choice of wardrobe for the occasion

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Good for her for going down there

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

The jacket was obviously just an oversight. A poor choice, but not intentional.

Republicans are wasting time with GOP-only immigration bills. At some point they have to include Democrats in the process. Or they could just vote on one of the bipartisan bills and have immigration reform tomorrow, but the GOP hardliners would exact revenge on their own party.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

At some point they have to include Democrats in the process.

This is the same party that railed against repealing Obamacare for like 7 years, without having a clue of what to replace it with, and had 16 investigations into Hillary that found nothing, yet still claim she is guilty. They aren't exactly the party of logic.

6 ( +10 / -4 )

Trump's tweet was a scramble to spin a disastrous PR stunt. More likely, the message was directed at him, but whatever the reason for wearing that idiotic jacket was, it must be clear to all except those who blindly effuse over "King and Queen Trump's New Clothes" that Melania is totally out of her depth as "First Lady". All her fine costumes cannot hide the sad emptiness of her role as presidential consort.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

It’s a $39 jacket from Zara. Not sure how much Zara Mrs Trump has in her closet, but I’m guessing not much. This wasn’t an innocent oversight.

8 ( +11 / -3 )

As in true typical liberal fashion the focus is more on the attire than on the substance of what the main issue is. Oh, I’m not surprised, when you’re bored with nothing to do, you gotta find something to crow about....lol

-17 ( +4 / -21 )

According to the Orange facist’s attorney general, he’s going against the word of GOD! (Romans 13 or whatever) The Cheato is Anti-Christian! And should be Punished by a lightning bolt for keeping those lawbreaking brown people’s families together! Evangelical Christians must be livid to see their god violate himself!

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Bass4funk, in this case, the attire IS the substance of the main issue.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Haters will always find something to complain about. Shoganai.

-9 ( +4 / -13 )

How anyone could not know what was written on that jacket and think it in poor taste visiting the border, in light of all the controversy, is beyond me.

Oh wait, it's Melania, Trump's first lady.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

I'm sure Trump would love for this to turn into a tedious discussion of fashion. Don't fall for the rope a dope b/c at the end of this news cycle thousands of kids will still be separated from their families. I don't care if the first lady sacrificed a chicken at the border--it's irrelevant.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

The jacket? Just seems to be giving the media something to report on instead of something else. They always take the bait.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Trump's wife's spokeswoman said there was no hidden message. She is right, the message was quite unhidden! Used to feel a bit sorry for Melania but she and Chump actually deserve each other.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

Nobody accidentally wears a jacket in the South on a humid summer day.

No former model and first lady owns a $39 Zara jacket without intentionally choosing it.

No one attached to the leader of a nation visits a children's concentration camp without considering every aspect of the optics they present by doing so.

The message was intentional.

16 ( +18 / -2 )

The more conservative bill would deny the chance of future citizenship to "Dreamers" - immigrants brought illegally into the United States years ago when they were children.

Can someone explain this one to me? A vast majority of people in the US say they support giving legal status to Dreamers. This minority, radical group of Republicans is sabotaging the immigration reform process.

Their bill got voted down. Will they take that as a sign? No, they’ll just continue to blow up everyone else’s bills.

Ans why did Trump say he would sign it when he’s said on repeated occasions that he wants to work something out for Dreamers?

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

All of you do realize she didnt wear the jacket when she met the children right?

Or is liberal media not telling you that?

-7 ( +8 / -15 )

A vast majority of people in the US say they support giving legal status to Dreamers.

Legal status yes. A path to citizenship not so fast. Its all in the wording of the question. Legal status means basically dont want them deported. Citizenship or even a path to it, is a whole other issue. Because then they can also sponsor their parents who broke the law by illegally bringing them to the USA in the first place.

-9 ( +3 / -12 )

It seems the U.S. has become so divided that no action by the "opposition" is allowed to be praised. I am by no means a supporter of Trump but Mrs. Trump did a good deed by visiting the border. Good for her. However, the dialog has been flushed so far down the toilet into the bowels of repugnance such that we have people like Peter Fonda suggesting an 11 year old boy should be locked in a cage with pedophiles.

There are those that say that there is a concerted effort by external forces (and it is not necessarily Russia) to divide the U.S. There are times when such statements seem plausible. Antifa just released home addresses of those working for the Border Patrol in the U.S. (an illegal act by the way). The Border Patrol are men and women just trying to do their job (and it must be very difficult in this environment).

I am an American and served my country, however I have chosen to expatriate to Japan. It is disheartening to watch my country of birth and citizenship become increasingly divided (as has been occurring for a couple of decades now) and fall to where it appears to be beyond the point of repair. It seems emotions and radical partisanship have replaced logical thought and pragmatism in the new world. Perhaps this is a natural manifestation of the ability to communicate instantly. I did not grow up with an internet or any such technology. I remember watching the news, reading, and using a shortwave radio to learn about the world.

As I am old (likely older than the majority of posters on this website), this will not impact me personally but it saddens me to think of the country my kids and their contemporaries will live in.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

All of you do realize she didnt wear the jacket when she met the children right?

Most of them wouldn't have been able to read it anyways.

Yet, you somehow think whether or not she wore it in front of them is what matters.

With no information either way, I'd be more likely to think it's just a moment of stupidity, rather than a hidden message. But it's still a moment of stupidity - shouldn't the president's people be all over that?

2 ( +6 / -4 )

The fact Melania even wore the jacket is the strangest fashion we have never seen from a FLOTUS, not even Michelle Obama would have worn it.

Remember how conservatives freaked out and said Michelle Obama wearing sleeveless dresses was an offense and not becoming of the First Lady.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

Specifically speaking, it's an intentional distraction. This is what the Trump regime does. Any time its inner circle get caught doing something truly despicable and illegal, they engineer a controversy by doing something flagrantly obnoxious and rude but also somewhat inconsequential to occupy the air time.

Where is the video footage that these children actually are being reunited with their parents? Why aren't independent observers able to enter these camps and confirm the children's well-being? What is being done about the reports of abuse? How will the administration reunite families they haven't kept adequate records for? Why does Trump think imprisoning children with their families for a misdemeanor is an acceptable solution to this problem?

Watch anyone who wants to defend Melania's choice of clothing rather than defend this administration's barbaric abuse of innocent children. They are people who merely lack the courage to openly abuse anyone weaker than themselves.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

I think people should take off the biased blinders and use common sense. That was not a smart thing to wear on that occasion. But its not a huge deal. Next...

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

There is a quote from a movie that reminds me of this media and all leftest.

"Those mob fools want you gone so

they can get back to the way things

were. But I know the truth-

there’s no going back. You've

changed things . Forever . Their morals, their code... it’s a

bad joke. Dropped at the first

sign of trouble. They’re only as

good as the world allows them to

be. You'll see- I'll show you...

when the chips are down, these

civilized people... they’ll eat

each other."

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Black, Stranger, Katsu, etc. Trump-bashers, get your facts straight. As I posted yesterday, when illegals are facing prosecution and incarcerated, they forfeit their right to keep custody of their children. It certainly happened under Obama as well, as that is the law.

Melania Trump and others at least had the good sense to whisper into DT's ear that with all of the media attention on this, it would be good to not separate them. I wonder if Michelle Obama did the same thing. Where is the outrage that Obama didn't sign anything to keep these families together.

So keep attacking her fashion choice (If she wears a Fendi, then there is reason to bash that, right?) as much as you want and up that distraction from what she IS doing that is of value: seeing how things are going there.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

in this case, the attire IS the substance of the main issue.

Look, I am fully aware liberals will make an issue about literally anything. A long time ago in the newsroom if you went to your editor with a lame story like this, or that HS Kirstjen Nielson had the audacity to eat Mexican food (which was outrageous) but you’d get laughed out the room, given a serious lecture as to what news is, but now, whatever you can find in your closet, run with it who cares, we just need clicks.

-10 ( +4 / -14 )

when the chips are down, these civilized people ... they’ll eat each other

As much as I reluctantly appreciate the film, it's a fascist fantasy. Only a strongman can save us. Google Dark Knight and fascism:

https://thenewinquiry.com/blog/do-not-go-gentle-into-that-dark-knight/

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Just like the last news cycle when the MSM filled the print and airwaves about how they "won" and our president "caved" before realizing to his EO was not about "catch and release" but rather reuniting the illegal alien nuclear family in detainment (which I called, btw), the media has gotten snookered yet again. Liberals have become so predictable.

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

Nobody accidentally wears a jacket in the South on a humid summer day.

So now you’re a mind reader? I guess that means you can read my mind.....I sure hope so. Lol

No former model and first lady owns a $39 Zara jacket without intentionally choosing it.

For all we know that message could mean something to the point of I don’t care what the Democrats think, or it could just mean absolutely nothing and once again the Left is reaching.

No one attached to the leader of a nation visits a children's concentration camp without considering every aspect of the optics they present by doing so.

If you can prove that, I’ll give you an apology, right now.

The message was intentional.

Maybe, maybe not. There are more depressing things in life and I thought you guys were worried about the children, or you worried about Melania Trump is wearing. ROFL

-11 ( +3 / -14 )

Melania showed she did care - by speaking out against the separation of families. The jacket is just so,... Wtf? Her stylist needs a good talking to.

Good on her for going to Texas. Glad she is healthy enough to fly, despite the bizarre excuses from her husband about her doctors orders.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

A long time ago in the newsroom if you went to your editor with a lame story like this, or that HS Kirstjen Nielson had the audacity to eat Mexican food (which was outrageous) but you’d get laughed out the room, given a serious lecture as to what news is

And then on the eighth day, God said "Let there be Fox News, and let them properly demonize the President's wife for not wearing sleeves", and a new era was born.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

The trashy First Lady keepin' it crassy!

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

It is a jacket. Not a conspiracy. I have seen strange English on a sorts of things in Japan. Leaving me scratching my head wondering. does this person know what that hat really says or means?

Get over it. JACKET NOTHING MORE!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Trashy" first lady? I have to say that in light of the extreme coverage of the Presidency and considering some of the things that have said about her, Trump, and threats to her son I think she has dealt with everything pretty well.

I cannot stand Trump but it seems his wife is quite capable of handling herself and has also remained classy as people have said some pretty vile things about her family and son. I still am of the belief that she wants very little to do with being the First Lady and would probably have rather not had Trump be the President.

I actually think her husband and some other people within the administration should take lessons from Mrs. Trump.

90% of the time I disagree with Bass4funk's posting, but he implied in his last post people should be more concerned with the kids instead of what Mrs. Trump chooses to wear.

3 ( +8 / -5 )

Are you frigging kidding me?! She's down there to show support, sympathy and compassion and then shows up in a coat like that. Maybe crass is the wrong word. How about just plain dumb?

5 ( +8 / -3 )

"Trashy" first lady? I have to say that in light of the extreme coverage of the Presidency and considering some of the things that have said about her, Trump, and threats to her son I think she has dealt with everything pretty well.

Me too.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

I doubt any of the children even knew who Melania was and the fact that she's the FLOTUS was probably lost on them. Age 5-17 years.

There are about 60 children at the center and most entered the US unaccompanied and only 6-10 are from being separated.

Cameras not allowed in the children's area.

There’s no indication that parents separated from their children will be reunited.

and

https://youtu.be/84cZW80pTpg

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Silly subject, but the jacket was obviously loaned to her on the spur of the moment. Melania isn't one for cheap off the rack clothes. There could be a hundred reasons why she needed a jacket. The air conditioning was too strong, she has a spill on her clothes she wanted to hide, or she wanted to protect her clothes from some water spray....

But I suppose a conspiracy story about a cheap jacket is better than running a story that makes her look good in any way.

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

As in true typical liberal fashion the focus is more on the attire than on the substance of what the main issue is. Oh, I’m not surprised, when you’re bored with nothing to do, you gotta find something to crow about....lol

The event in question had no substance - the First Lady gets on plane, goes to facility, exchanges pleasantries, poses for photographs, gets back on plane.

Also, for a guy who complains about a lack of substantive discussion, I note that easily 3/4 of your posts on here are devoted to you complaining about strawman "liberals" rather than the merits of whatever policy or issue the article is actually about.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

CNN is reporting that families aren’t being referred for prosecution. Let’s hope it’s confirmed.

The power of protest.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

The FLOTUS is a symbol of the country. She'd serve the country as FLOTUS better by leaving the fashion logos at home.

Listening to her talk on TV, the impression that she gave was that basically conditions were pretty good at the detention facilities and that all of the children who were entering the U.S. were doing so alone. True in some cases, not in all cases.

What a PR sham. She was down there more out of a sense of self-interest than compassion.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

" a jacket emblazoned with the words "I really don't care, do u?"

Her "let them eat cake" jacket wasn't back from the cleaners.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Funny that this family separation issue was such a big deal this week, but received only minor mention when Obama did the same thing in 2013 and 2014. In fact, Obama separate far more families than Trump did. Most of the photos you saw in the headlines last week were not taken of families which Trump had separated, but from families separated in 2014. But we can't let facts get in the way of a good, anti-Trump story.

Prior to Obama's terms, about 6000 to 6700 children per year were apprehended trying to get into America illegally. In 2012, Obama passed DACA. News got out immediately, the number of children apprehended at the boarder jumped to over 28,000. There were so many that they were kept in chain-link dog kennels, shown in photos last week, conveniently not mentioning when they were taken.

Now Trump is directing that families be detained "together with the parent of the child in a family residential center maintained by the Secretary of Homeland Security during the pendency of civil or criminal proceedings." This means that they will be held until their cases are decided. As it's unlikely any will receive asylum, they'll be deported after their hearings.

But it doesn't end there, the Border Patrol is turning away families with children at the border, giving only cursory looks at their requests for asylum. Other families which been caught sneaking across have been quickly removed back to Mexico, the second time they are caught, they face felony charges.

Most of the children and parents who were separated in America prior to last week were reunited in Mexico within a few days, or a couple of weeks.

Count on this issue coming up in November, and Trump being able to use it to his advantage.

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

The Defense Department agreed on Thursday to provide living space for up to 20,000 minors who have come across the U.S.-Mexico border illegally this year.

The move comes amid a growing political battle over the fate of detained illegal immigrants, including more than 2,000 children separated from parents and other adults who are awaiting prosecution for their border-jumping.

The Pentagon won't be housing that group of kids – only those who fall under the umbrella of HHS's 'Unaccompanied Alien Children' program.

katsu78Today 09:13 am JSTNobody accidentally wears a jacket in the South on a humid summer day.

No former model and first lady owns a $39 Zara jacket without intentionally choosing it.

No one attached to the leader of a nation visits a children's concentration camp without considering every aspect of the optics they present by doing so.

The message was intentional.

You better believe it's intentional. She came to America illegally and 'worked' by posing in porn shots - some of it BDSM. What a disgrace. Is this an indication of what she and her husband want for these kidnapped children?

Make no mistake - that's how Melania 'rose up' after coming to America. And this jacket's message is a clear and arrogant indication of what she and Donnydouche think about them. It's an intentional sneering slap in the face to all these hostage children, their separated parents, human rights and America itself. It's her stuck-up snobby answer to it all. She don't care. She doesn't care about those children AT ALL. This is all a show. It's just like flipping a middle finger to America and its democratic standards.

2 ( +9 / -7 )

Another day, another article on Trump and his administration, another embarrassment for the US, and more framing of the issue as "Lib or Dem" from our right wing commentators - you need to look up and down instead of sideways all the time.  All issues cannot be reduced to the simple label of Liberal or Conservative.  In fact, if a post has liberal or conservative in it, I'd suggest skipping over it as the person who wrote it is trapped in a two dimensional, zero sum mindset fostered by watching Russian inspired propaganda on Faux News and the many other far right sites.

Compassion, respect for human rights, and common dignity are values not defined by your political beliefs - they're defined by your character.  We've seen many Repubs and Dems criticize this monstrous policy - that act defines who they are.  In contrast, those that support it, to include Trump, that act clearly defines who they are...

As for Mrs Trump, she either sides with her husband and is communicating that she supports his child-separating policy, or she is communicating to him her current thoughts on their marriage....

7 ( +8 / -1 )

Melania's jacket is an attempt to distract from the horribly mismanaged camps that make it impossible to reunite the families that the Trump regime separated.

https://twitter.com/ksieff/status/1009949212614774784

This thread gives a good demonstration of the difficulties facing professional immigration lawyers trying to reunite kids with their parents. These difficulties don't need to be there. They are the result of either a criminally incompetent aspiring dictator who doesn't think before demanding policies about how they will work, or intentional abuse by a bigoted aspiring dictator who listens to other bigots. Either way, the trauma is a feature, not a bug. This policy was intended to do harm. People who defend it are complicit.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

The very fact that Trump authorized these mass abductions and wrongful imprisonments means that he is not to be trusted. I don't care what he signs or says now - he's upset that he got caught in the act. He is untrustworthy and undependable. Why should anybody believe his lies now? He's not going his evil ethnic cleansing acts while he's in office. He's trying to 'save face' and 'correct the crisis' but he is a LIAR. He did this act, the damage us done. He's blubbering his BS 'solution' to a non-existence 'crisis' that he made up so he could build his unnecessary Iron Curtainish wall - and I ain't buying it. He'll say he's 'changed' or 'seen the light' and I ain't buying it. NOTHING he says or does will convince me that he has any positive intent - he showed that explicitly in 2016. That should've been clear enough to any one.

Funny that this family separation issue was such a big deal this week, but received only minor mention when Obama did the same thing in 2013 and 2014. In fact, Obama separate far more families than Trump did.

Dems have to do something to take attention away from the IG’s damning report of corruption and collusion among top law enforcement people who were out to get Trump. Obama did the same thing but that was cool when he did it. All of these false hysterics can be chalked up to faux outrage from the Leftist media and their allies in the Democrat party and establishment Republicans. The resistance (deep state) in action.

If Trump wants to 'keep families together' then why did he kidnap 8000+ children in the first place? You can't trust this criminal - and he just DID commit a crime. Simple as that. Actions say it all. Words mean nothing, especially to an uncouth bully brat like Trump. He's not a 'good boy' and he never will - even if he promises to be. Don't believe his lies.

Funny, Chuck Schumer not willing to work with the Republicans on helping them create a strong immigration bill with bipartisan support I don’t think he’s to be trusted at all.

*I don't care what he signs or says now - he's upset that he got caught in the act.*

He’s not upset that he got caught, he’s upset that Democrats like Nancy and Chuck are just so stupid that they will do anything just to get votes and it’s a darn shame.

*He is untrustworthy and undependable. Why should anybody believe his lies now? He's not going to end his evil ethnic cleansing acts while he's in office. He's trying to 'save face' and 'correct the crisis' but he is a LIAR. *

Once again, if the Democrats really cared about these kids, then they would sit down with Republicans to work something out they work together Republicans given something and the Democrats given something, but the Democrats very survival depends on getting as many immigrants as they can and giving them as much social welfare benefits as they can and then turning them into Democratic voters

Ship them out. Build the wall. I am a U.S. Veteran and proud of this President. Let Mexico sort out the re-uniting of the families. If a child is disabled or breast feeding or some other set of circumstances requiring the care of a parent. Then do the right thing. We are the United States of America. Not Nazi Germany.

We have heart and soul. Do not believe fake media reports!

The law was the same under Obama administration. The same under Busch administration. The U.S, Military will and shall follow its order from it the commander in chief.

5 U.S.C. 3331 specifies the language of the oath for federal officials. According to this statute, officials must “solemnly swear (or affirm)” that they “will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic” and that they “will bear true faith and allegiance to the same.”

Illegal immigrants pouring into the U.S. should be classified as enemies of the state. This problem tied to crime and drugs has gone on to long. Mexico needs to held accountable.

Once again, if the Democrats really cared about these kids, then they would sit down with Republicans to work something out they work together Republicans given something and the Democrats given something, but the Democrats very survival depends on getting as many immigrants as they can and giving them as much social welfare benefits as they can and then turning them into Democratic voters-There it the root of all evil. Well said.

-7 ( +5 / -12 )

Correction.-Mexico needs to held be accountable.

-10 ( +2 / -12 )

"I Really Don't Care. Do U?" thanks for your husband to be a president. What a shame!!

3 ( +4 / -1 )

why do I get the impression from reading your posts that you have a strange idea of what bipartisan is

Because for once you are actually paying attention to what I’m saying.

when you actually mean the republicans write the bill and the democrats agree to it

Oh, so you also agree the US should have open borders and allow everyone in regardless of their past, criminal, sex offender, just let everyone in.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

Mexico needs to held be accountable.

Totally. Mexico needs to be held accountable US businesses hiring illegal aliens. makes sense.

And your idea to place these criminals is where exactly?

I'd start with asking why we lock so many people up for non-violent offenses for starters. Do we really need to waste money for having a little weed?

because we don’t have a wall to keep them out.

Totally, because a wall just fixes everything. Boats, ladders, shovels, airplanes don't exist. Building a dumb wall will solve all our problems. :D

Couid release all the kids and all the parents currently detained at the same time and same place. On their side of the border. Then they could reunite there and all go back home together as a family.

When a government arrest, detains and imprisons someone they also become responsible for their live, health and well being.

Even mass murderers have rights.

Because for once you are actually paying attention to what I’m saying

you can not resist to demean and insult, but you once again avoided answering the question with your deflection.

There has never been an open border in modern America. Not having a wall does not symbolize having open borders. Your answer is to build a wall, that might keep many out but not all especially the 2 million visa overstayers. Then there are the 700,000 DACA, and not the 1.5 million you quoted.

I have said there are major problems with cross border illegals including gangs and drugs but what is the best way to deal with it. Probably not in any single one answer or solution.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

@ Takeda,

Totally, because a wall just fixes everything. Boats, ladders, shovels, airplanes don't exist. Building a dumb wall will solve all our problems.-Make your case in Arizona. Where my good friend was car jacked and beaten by a 21 illegal Latino male in 2015. Oh that had a little weed on him. - The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office has found that 22 percent of felonies in the county are committed by illegal immigrants. Illegal immigrants are estimated to be 10 percent of the county’s adult population. The issues of illegals is so vast and so in depthas well complicated. That a solution so simple as wall and stopping the flow of illegals at the source. Sorry makes sense to me until a better system comes around. It is not perfect but Israeli West Bank barrier wall is very effective.

There are a number of reasons, from a lack of investment in schools and economic opportunity, to draconian drug laws and bail policies that criminalize poverty, to inadequate reentry services and employment discrimination against people who have been incarcerated, just to name a few.

Let's not forget we have a for profit prison system. That is to say, corporations, and their shareholders, are making money of locking people up. Sick.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

This happened under Obama. Whilst he tried to keep families together, a ruling in 2016 (before Trump was President) said that they couldn't do that... so they were forced to separate families. The only difference in what has been happening and what happened under Obama is that it's happening more under Trump. It was still the same policy, but it was Obama... so nobody really cared.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Building walls, separating children from their parents and imprisoning millions of citizens doe not solve the socio-economic reasons. 15 million American below the poverty line. 30 million Americans who can't afford healthcare.

Fact check on Trump and Obama's policy :

http://www.politifact.com/punditfact/statements/2018/jun/19/matt-schlapp/no-donald-trumps-separation-immigrant-families-was/

"Obama generally refrained from prosecution in cases involving adults who crossed the border with their kids," said Peter Margulies, an immigration law and national security law professor at Roger Williams University School of Law. "In contrast, the current administration has chosen to prosecute adult border-crossers, even when they have kids. That's a choice — one fundamentally different from the choice made by both Obama and previous presidents of both parties."

As you can see, these Trump supporters really care about family values...

This just isn’t the “winning political issue” that the Dems thought.

54 percent of likely voters polled by Rasmussen said that they think the parents are more to blame for breaking the law.

Only 35 percent said the government is more to blame for the crisis.

Further, 54 percent of voting Americans agree with President Trump’s assertion that “The United States will not be a migrant camp. And it will not be a refugee-holding facility — it won’t be.”

Trump administration officials have been sending babies and other young children forcibly separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border to at least three “tender age” shelters in South Texas.

That’s good, at least they’re safe and not out in the blazing sun and with the drug traffickers.

Lawyers and medical providers who have visited the Rio Grande Valley shelters described playrooms of crying preschool-age children in crisis.

Funny, the NYT the paper that despises Trump said, the opposite, plus there were other social workers and from what they showed on TV looked more than clean.

Shame on America and shame on those American who support it.

I say shame on those who support open borders and shame on anyone that would allow their child to make that kind of dangerous journey.

That doesn't mean ripping children away from their parents and keeping them in cages is an appropriate method of dealing with the situation.

The fact Melania even wore the jacket is the strangest fashion we have never seen from a FLOTUS, not even Michelle Obama would have worn it.

More like especially Michelle Obama.

Strange is the word - it's the kind of thing you might expect from someone at risk of a nervous breakdown. Or someone who a few weeks ago disappeared abruptly, and just as abruptly resurfaced.

So all the complaining about insensitivity is probably overlooking some deeper-seated "personal" issues.

Mrs Trump is doing good not to wear a $1500 outfit with 4 inch heels like she did visiting Houston during the flooding.

I'm a little confused that she wore any jacket. It isn't like Texas is cool this time of year, so either the shirt under it was much worst or she was trying to cover up all the sweat that would pour out in the 10 seconds getting on/off the plane. BTW, I'm totally serious about 10 seconds. That's all it takes to be sweating there. I lived in Houston, Austin, Lubbock ...

Either way, she did the visit and her husband will get an earful soon.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Actually, zichi, you should re-read that. I have, many times, as you can see from my history on JT. I've copy/pasted the rules 3 other times - and got down votes for posting the rules.

They aren't being persecuted for being a member of any social group, so they don't meet the asylum criteria. They are likely being harassed due to location. Move to a different place in their country. If they haven't tried that first, they are economic immigrants.

If they've been tortured by the gang, that is a cause for asylum to be granted. There is a document on uscis.gov site about asylum criteria when claims of gang violence are involved. The torture must have been supported (instigated, consent, or acquiescence) by a public official.

To put it simply, it is extremely difficult to succeed in an asylum claim that is based on Central American gang violence.

The existence of a criminal history and/or former gang affiliation make a successful claim less likely.

Refusing to join a gang is NOT sufficient reason, that document states too. That is from the document about asylum for gang-based fear.

The USA has gangs, gangs from Mexico and Central American countries. Fleeing to the USA to avoid gang violence is like running to the beach to avoid sand.

Plus, until asylum is granted, no work permit is allowed in the USA. That usually takes 150 days, on average. That means a sponsoring family or organization is necessary, so that law isn't violated, assuming no other laws were violated entering the USA.

The USA can't be responsible for everyone in the Americas. I travel to Mexico, Central and South American countries about once a year. There are wonderful places and terrible places there, just like there are wonderful and terrible places everywhere else. Moving to a more stable country, closer, with the same language, would make much more sense to me. People trying to get to the USA have multiple reasons, but I'd bet 90% are because they love President Trump's plans to make America great. Clearly, why else would they come when there are easier, closer, possibilities?

whatever the rights and wrongs of illegal immigration, what is 100% wrong by any humane standards is the separation of young children from their parents, especially children even under 5 years and even babies. There can no kind of excuse for that. Worse there seems to be no sort of record who their parents are or even where their parents are. It appears some might have already been deported. This is a form of abduction and internment without any justification.

I'm curious, what makes someone a "Republican" vs a "Trump supporter" vs a "Conservative"?

BTW, I'm still waiting for a solution to illegal immigration to the USA from the left. From here, it seems they just want totally open borders without any limitations at all. That might not be their goal, but that's how it seems. Anyone who shows up at a border, claims asylum without any proof, should be let in and anyone already here, even if they arrived illegally, shouldn't be deported. That's what it seems the left want. Is that true?

can't blame the democrats for the failure of the republicans to vote in their own bills.

Ok, so then why won’t they close the loopholes? Why do they support open borders? The Republicans don’t want that. They want an end to chain migration, an end to the Visa lottery program, the Dems don’t, they want to end catch and release, the Dems dont, they want an end to sanctuary cities, the Dems dont, so now since they don’t want to lend a hand to any bipartisan support, thr only thing that you can logically (Dems claim they’re educated) is that, they don’t want closed borders or close any loopholes at all. So yes, most definitely they get the blame, now if Schumer says, he'll sit down with Republicans to come up with proper bipartisan legislation to permanently fix this problem. I will eat humble pie and apologize, but I’m sure I’ll never have to do that.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Republicans don't need support in the House, which is where these bills are being debated.

Then the Democrats don’t want a bipartisan support bill. Of course they don’t care about these kids, yes, they want to grandstand and scream how heartless Republicans are, but Democrats are so full of crap, they were completely silent in 2014 when their savior was doing the exact same thing, now they show one crying child and it’s just Nazi camps and most Democrats don’t have even a clue about Nazi Germany, but I guess it sounds cool to say it.

It's all theatre anyway.

With Democrats it’s not only theater, but won’t even make Rotten Tomatoes ranking.

The hardliners will continue to be hardliners because they pander to red districts to get reelected.

Yes, they’re base wants an end to all of this, but the Dems play to their fan base as well and they want open borders that’s why they’re scared to write binding legeslstion, because doing so would pretty much be the end of the Democratic Party. I can be honest about it, why can’t they? We all know what’s going on, if they cared, really cared about these kids, they would make sure the border is sealed, now the other option would be Trump could send the National guard to those countries where these people are coming from like how we did with Grenada back in the 80’s and police the State until civil Rest is restored and the people can go back.

They've sold their base on impossible peomises. Failing isn't a bill that doesn't pass, failure is any kind of compromise.

Ok, so Democrats stand for open borders, they need them, they need the voters I get it and basically, blank Americans, we need as many possible future Democrats as we can get, so flood the country. Diane Feinsten wants to include a measure in the compromise bill that border agents aren’t allowed to arrest anyone within 100 miles of the border. The funny thing in all of this is, the left actually in their misguided hearts think, we believe their BS that’s the funny part.

Republicans have a majority in the House.

http://time.com/5084067/congress-shutdown-daca-chip/

Sad that the left think they are the only people that can......read....lol

Meanwhile, bipartisan bills go into the garbage.

Uh-huh, keep peddling that crap. Here is the exact reason why Dems WON’T do anything to fix the immigration problem and plug all these loopholes, let’s cut through the mustard.

The political impact of immigration today is fairly clear. The foreign-born gave about two-thirds of their votes to Hillary Clinton in 2016, as did Asian and Hispanic Americans (both immigrant and native), whose explosive demographic growth is rooted almost entirely in immigration from over past 50 years, most of it legal. Asians and Hispanics supplied roughly 20 percent of Clinton’s vote total — close to the contribution made by black Americans, who have long been considered an indispensable part of the Democratic coalition.

This is exactly the fundamental reason why the left won’t lift a finger to stop illegal immigration, because it would kill their future prospects of winning elections, it’s the only thing they have. I just want these people to be honest, they’re so close to saying it. Just say the word and we don’t have to suffer stupid Democrat talking points. The GOP is clear in its position, but the left can’t, just don’t give the illusion you’re for the kids, you’re and never were....

Actually, they ARE criminals, especially when it is willful (i.e. on purpose). They have broken a US federal law, probably multiple, just be being in the USA.

People are only criminal once they have due process. That is, a person is charged with a crime, then tried in a court and found guilty of the crime, and the sentenced for the crime. No one is a criminal at the beginning of due process. Some of those illegal immigrants are also asylum seekers, just all people are able to claim and once investigated accepted or denied.

Regardless, I think it's a gross mistake to separate the children from their parents, and even more when those children are under five years. The families could be detained together in illegal immigrant centers.

I think the majority are no longer Mexicans and America needs to work with Mexico to strengthen their southern border to slow or prevent the flow of people from Central America.

All people are only guilty of a crime after due process not before it.

I don't have a problem with detaining people just the breaking up of the family and the president has now also agreed by signing a EO.

What a****joke! We have been trying to work with Mexico for over 60 years. I’ve been to Mexico 18 times, love the country, love the people very much, but the government is one of THE most corrupted governments on the planet, not to mention Mexico is one of the most racist countries on the planet, controlled by the White ruling class. If you are dark skin, good luck trying to have a decent life in that country. Mexico fears one thing, a revolution and they don’t want it and don’t have the man power of appetite to stop it. Instead of dealing with the social problems of everyday Mexicans, they’re encouraged to go “Ir al norte” go North* the ruling class could care less.

The asylum process in Germany takes about 8 weeks and during that time families are kept together.

Don't get me started on Germany, I grew up there for many years their immigration problem is a huge mess. Not a good example at all.

You can request asylum, but it’s not mandatory to give it, because you are an illegal trying to get in, you don’t have a right and you can’t demand anything. It’s all subject to review, screening, vetting etc.

Yes asylum is not mandatory but all those claiming it are legally entitled under American law to have ab asylum hearing.

STOP! Might be?!! No, they are.

Under American law no one is guilty of a crime until proved. Innocent until proved guilty,

You have claimed to have been born in Orange County California so which is it. But you are not the only person to have been to Germany. The families are not separated. The Germany you knew is not the same Germany today.

Yes, they claim it, but the argument is, the US is under No circumstance to grant it, any country for that matter.

I love how liberals NOW think they have the right to lecture anyone on guilt or innocence.

As long as it fits the liberal narrative then they apply that theory. You guess accused and made the debunked accusations children were being tortured without a shred of verifiable facts, you guess always prejudge anyone or anything that doesn’t tow the liberal agenda, who cares if they are guilty or innocent, but now in this situation we need to consider who is guilty or who is innocent? Give me a break.

You have claimed to have been born in Orange County California so which is it. But you are not the only person to have been to Germany.

No, but I have family and go there twice a year and I know exactly what’s going on and anyone making a claim that Germany has a wonderful immigration policy and everything is beautiful is not dealing with reality. Germany is a mess right now.

The families are not separated.

And Trump rectified that.

The Germany you knew is not the same Germany today.

Hey, you’re sadly right. I can’t argue with you on that, many people leaving and within the next 50 years Germany won’t be Germany anymore.

So that's Germany a couple of time a years, Texas a couple of times a year, NFL games a couple times of year, all via your private jet. Do manage to do a lot with the ¥3000 pokettomanē your Japanese wife gives you everyday. Still walking down to the store though?

I didn't say the German system is wonderful but they don't separate the kids from family.

Yes, they claim it, but the argument is, the US is under No circumstance to grant it, any country for that matter.

Still entitled to an asylum hearing and not decided at the point of entry. Usually takes more than 180 days.

And make them mercenary slaves for his evil enterprises and egotistical 'glory'. He'd probably get them killed off first because he's a scummy bigot.

the trump "presidency" and the administration upon which it is based is a superstorm of human excrement which never dissipates. quite the contrary. the longer the oval office serves as "the oval orifice", the storm builds and grows more destructive. not to mention the putridity of the stench.

※ Q: what's that foul smell? A: it's the trump "presidency".

The message was actually aimed at her husband, the president.
