Trump is listening to his health experts and heeding their recommendations. As the situation changes, he shows he takes new info into consideration and makes decisions based on that.

He is listening now, but so late. But when he was talking about the whole thing being over in weeks, he clearly wasn't. He is selective in what he listens to, and makes up his own reality as he goes along - a feature of his entire presidency.

Had he listened sooner, thousands of lives might have been saved.

Donald-san, you could fully close the borders and go on lockdown in begining of January and avoid jeopardizing the lives of 200,000 of your taxpayers... United States of Incompetence...

So what happened to putting the NE under quarantine? Were you talking out your arse, Trump? Then the adults sat you down?

Is that what happened?

Trump is trying to negotiate with a virus

Missing a zero

Trumptalk is debased coinage like that of Aesop's boy clown. This is the tragic result of his faux presidency since truth in the time of corona is what the people of America need as much as a vaccine to combat and vanquish the virus.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta: Ten billion dollars over the next 10 years to make it “the year of the vaccines.” What does that mean exactly? appreciate that, but this leading expert was also saying, like everybody else a few months ago, there was no concern. re-run the tapes and see for yourself.

Like the other over 300 million Americans, he listed to your President say;

"It's contained"

“Within a couple of days the number of positive cases is going to be down to close to zero.”

“This is their new hoax.”

“Nobody could have ever seen something like this coming.”

"We’re very close to a vaccine."

He quickly learned never to trust anything that comes out of this buffoon's mouth...

Just like the rest of the 300 million Americans...

I am sure Biden would be a better President (if he could speak a full sentence and look cogent for five minutes)

Trump is like a drunk on the highway, swerving from one lane to the other blah blah blah

Yeah, and if he insisted on doing away with the restrictions and reopening the economy by Easter as he and everyone else except for his political enemies hoped, you'd be complaining he doesn't listen to his health experts. Give it a rest.

Trump is like a drunk on the highway, swerving from one lane to the other. Time to pull him over and give him a breathalizer test and revoke his license.

Or maybe - hopefully - Trump will remain content with being more popular with the 35% of Americans

More like 47.3%. Oh my...

In reality it's likely over half.

“I want our life back again,” the president told reporters

Me too. Preferably prior to your presidency. Please resign.

yeah this virus is no joke; just heard that that ken shimura san guy died. He was a smoker, so that should motivate to quit that nasty habit, but this virus aint nothing to play with

But I was wondering, if the US had universal healthcare like many other countries, perhaps the number of flu deaths would also be much lower.

Of course it would be

“As the president fiddles, people are dying, and we have to take every precaution," she said. She promised a congressional investigation once the pandemic is over to determine whether Trump heeded advice from scientific experts and to answer the question that resonates through U.S. political scandals: “What did he know and when did he know it?”

Same should happen for abe & koike!!

A US intelligence analyst has characterized the coronavirus pandemic as the worst intelligence failure in US history. I'm no expert, but I would wager history will record that the biggest intelligence failure was the election of Donald J. Trump to the office of POTUS. May the Force be with Dr. Fauci!

The article says that the USA could see 200,000 deaths from this latest flu. Google says that in the flu epidemic of 1918-1919, the USA had about 675,000 fatalities, with most of those occurring in the fall of 1918 and the winter and spring of 1919. The 1918-19 flu epidemic started in January 1918, and although there were many fatalities early, the worst came later. I worry that this pandemic is just starting.

And all these deaths could be avoided should we have a President like Bill Gates... Bill Gates predicted such a pandemic in 2015...

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

Trump, who is due to hold a news conference at 5 p.m., bragged on Twitter about the millions of Americans tuning in to watch the daily briefings.

Fauci warns about the number of deaths reaching 200k and Donny brags that millions watch his press conferences. Well, Donny, you are the president mad we are in a crisis. You’re meant to lead, so it’s not wonder people tune into your press conferences. What a moron.

Trump and all the rest of his talking heads: "It's just the flu, you'll get over it, it's contained, go to work".....

Dr Fauci: "A whole bunch of people are going to die"...

I can only imagine if Trump and the Repubs had their way and abolished the CDC years ago...

What would we be doing now?

Remember that when voting in Nov...

No worries Trump will save the day

Like the WH is telling medical supply vendors to ignore Michigan orders, refusing to offer assistance to New York, and sending California 170 broken ventilators.

How pathetic this SOB is. His ego is is more important than the lives of people and more importantly Americans (MAGA?)!

Dr. Fauci is a hero. I hope his popularity with those who trust science (65% of Americans?) doesn't make him lose his job because Trump is jealous.

He is already receiving death threats from... take a wild guess from who. It ryhmes with "trump supporter." (reported in various news agencies)

7 ( +9 / -2 )

His estimate is also quite conservative according to the stats I've been seeing.

Let us hope he is over-estimating and it is as low as he says or even lower.

We keep hearing from many people that the Corona Virus is just like the flu and that the flu kills far more people every year. But I was wondering, if the US had universal healthcare like many other countries, perhaps the number of flu deaths would also be much lower.

I hope that Dr. Fauci is incorrect with the projected number of deaths, but he is such a smart and logical man, completely opposite to the others he has to share the stage with in the daily briefings. I fear the numbers could get higher is there is such a uncoordinated policy towards the Corona virus.

10 ( +11 / -1 )

The death toll estimation is worrying but not so surprising tome. What surprises me is about 3 million people applying for unemployment benefits.

In the United States, growing social unrest into violence may be more fearful than the virus itself.

Or maybe - hopefully - Trump will remain content with being more popular with the 35% of Americans, his fundamentalist base, and allow Dr. Fauci and his colleagues to continue to their jobs.
