But after days of hinting that he might use his presidential powers to declare an emergency as a first step toward directing money for the wall without congressional approval, Trump appeared to be willing instead to continue seeking a solution to the impasse with Congress.

Well, this is the same man who said that some of his predecessors told him they should have built the wall themselves, which all four of them have denied.

Sen. Chuck Schumer made the argument that if you give Trump $5B now, then the costs could eventually mount to ending up being in the neighborhood of $70B. In other words, give and inch, give a mile. And what good would it do? Most of the drugs coming in come in through legal ports of entry and the terrorists are being rounded up and arrested at airports.

So why does this wall have to be built? To satisfy one man's selfishness? And why is this national crisis happening now when the GOP controlled the major branches of government for the past 2 years? And whatever happened to Mexico paying for all of it?

There are smart ways to do this and there are really dumb ways to do this. Trump's way is the really dumb way. The Siegfried Line didn't save the Germans in WWII and the Trump Wall won't make any difference whatsoever either.

He mentioned several recent cases to bolster his argument and the tragic consequences resulting from the border crisis.
