The Arabs have tried time and again to wipe Israel off the map. Thank God they were defeated each time. Israel has never tried to do the same to them.

Look at the map of Palestine over the past century, it's clear that Israel actually has consistently been wiping Palestine off the map.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

A thundering disgrace & one that will have repercussions for generations to come.

Well, let’s see if the Palestinians accept this proposal, if not, then they don’t.

The criminal Netanyahu and his crony in Washington have spat in the faces of the Palestinian people.

Let’s not get into what Hamas and Iran have in their efforts to try and destroy the Jewish State.

The world will not stand by as this debacle continues.

Israel will do what it has to to exist. I hope it works out, but it’s up to the Palestinians as far as where they want to take this. I think it’s a good start. Let’s hope that Hamas won’t keep all that aid and use it to build more weapons and Qassam rockets to shoot and attack or kill Israelis.

If it has to be.

No, it doesn’t and was not and will not. Both sides will not deal with that terrorist organization, that won’t happen, so that part is just the end of discussion for both of them.

The US can't force a deal on the people of Palestine, it must be done with dialogue and proper compromise. Not this blatant land grab.

Then they don’t need to accept it, ok.

If the US is unwilling to treat the Palestinian people with decency and respect, it really has no business in the Middle East, let alone Israel.

And who will stop them?

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Yes, but who should that person be? Hamas???

Obama getting the Nobel Peace Prize was pretty absurd. But to be fair, George W Bush is a war criminal and was one of the worst Presidents of all time,

I disagree.

so almost anyone would have been an improvement.

We had 8 years of crap after that.

Hmm... I'm guessing the poster was thinking about someone who would give some consideration to (obvious, justifiable) Palestinian grievances. Peace plans normally work better when both sides have been offered something in them, don't you think?

Yes, but who should that person be? Hamas???

The Arabs have tried time and again to wipe Israel off the map. Thank God they were defeated each time. Israel has never tried to do the same to them.

Apart from the Nakba. Apart from the land seizures, mass murder, the indiscriminate use of chemical weapons, the erasing of Palestininan culture (which also included Palestinian Christians and Jews and other folk who lived there), not to mention the downgrading of language and citizenship.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Whose going to step up? Jihadis?

I hope the people will step up, as they did during the apartheid years in South Africa. Supporting freedom doesn't automatically equal violent Jihad, or any other form of terrorism.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Why should Israel go back to the 1967 borders? They don't have that much territory to begin with. How about we carve a Palestinian state out of Syria and Iraq instead? Or Egypt? I guess those countries actually don't care for their fellow Muslim "brothers" so much after all.

The Arabs have tried time and again to wipe Israel off the map. Thank God they were defeated each time. Israel has never tried to do the same to them.

Yeah, insults are the liberals best weapon I suppose.

If this were true, the Democrats wouldn't have the slightest chance in the next election, because the only things the Pig-in-Chief is good at,

LOL, par for the course, eh?

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Nothing is better than the pile of organic fertilizer Donny has proposed.

Good one Chip.

I had a laughing fit when I read this. Boy, there is a serious intellectual deficiency in nutterland!!!!

The world will not stand by as this debacle continues.

Well, they have for decades now. The US hasn’t been useful in this situation due to the power of lobbyists and religious lunatics at home. The UN has been pretty much reduced to the status of critics.

Whose going to step up? Jihadis?

I honestly wish I could accept your idea but I don’t know who’s going to step up.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Yeah, insults are the liberals best weapon I suppose.

If this were true, the Democrats wouldn't have the slightest chance in the next election, because the only things the Pig-in-Chief is good at, besides using the position to enrich himself, his family and other 1%-ers, is insulting people.

FREE PALESTINE.

Sneezy:

For the avoidance of doubt: I support the 1967 borders. Israel has a right to exist as a state. So does Palestine. Land stolen from the Palestinians must be returned.

The territory of Palestine was divided to create countries for BOTH Palestinian people, i.e. the Jews and the Muslims. As stated in the UN resolutions of the time. Have we all forgotten history?

-10 ( +0 / -10 )

For the avoidance of doubt: I support the 1967 borders. Israel has a right to exist as a state. So does Palestine. Land stolen from the Palestinians must be returned. International aid and assistance must be given to inculcate the modern state of Palestine. If the state of Israel wants to compensate those evicted from their illegally gotten land then it may do so. The many - many! - Israelis who want peace and a Palestinian state must be listened to.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

Ok, so basically, he got it for “not” being The previous President. What a joke that award has become.

Obama getting the Nobel Peace Prize was pretty absurd. But to be fair, George W Bush is a war criminal and was one of the worst Presidents of all time, so almost anyone would have been an improvement. I've heard people say that some non-biased historians have praised W, but no matter how many times I ask for citations, I get nothing. Sigh.

Mr. Kipling:

It is an apartheid state and like the old South Africa its days are numbered.

Israel is NOT an "apartheid state". Muslim Arabs in Israel have the same rights as other citizens and are in fact represented in Parliament. Name any islamic country that gives similar rights to non-muslims.

The promoters of the "apartheid" slogan always conflagrate Israel with the West Bank. The West Bank, of course, is a special situation. If you know a solution for the West Bank situation, explain it. But this "apartheid" slogan simply demonstrates shallow information.

-13 ( +0 / -13 )

Peter:

Sorry but I was not born when your statement had validity.

It has been a long time since then and under current terms Palestine does not include the sovereign nations of Syria, Jordan and Sinai.

No. Definitions do not change that easily. Palestine was and is a geographical area. The misleading labelling of muslim Arabs in Israel and the West Bank as "Palestinians" is a rethorical device invented by the PLO. Read up on it.

-10 ( +0 / -10 )

Obama did cork up with a better plan than Donny. Nothing is better than the pile of organic fertilizer Donny has proposed.

Ok, so basically, he got it for “not” being The previous President. What a joke that award has become.

Donny couldn’t be competent even if he put down his phone and shut his pie-hole for two seconds

Yeah, insults are the liberals best weapon I suppose.

-11 ( +0 / -11 )

Not made by Trump, nothing to do with peace and not even a plan.

Yeah, it was, it’s now in the history books, unless you want to scratch it out of all of them.

Should be a third name here, surely.

Example?

-10 ( +0 / -10 )

Every time the article refers to “Israeli” settlements and “Israeli” settlers..it is important to remember that these are in fact Jewish settlements for Jews and only Jews.

It is an apartheid state and like the old South Africa its days are numbered.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

You do realize that the term "Palestine" refers to the entire territorry of Syria, Jordan, Israel, the West Bank, Gazah, and the Sinai, do you? Or did you miss that?

Sorry but I was not born when your statement had validity.

It has been a long time since then and under current terms Palestine does not include the sovereign nations of Syria, Jordan and Sinai.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

.... "leaders" come up with .... "proposals" when they think they need to look like they're doing something. Another sick joke from the sickest chapter in U.S. history.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Hey @cla68- Notice you haven't named one yet. Funny about that, hey?

Bububu4Today  07:36 am JST

Israel made some major concessions in the plan

Really? Name one.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

Is it really a peace plan when only 1 side is making concessions? Did anybody designing it ever really believe the other side would sign a plan like that?

The fact that the other side was not even consulted.............. it seems like they knew this peace plan has no chance in hell, but the real reason they made it is to merely look good to their base and not really to get the other side on board

Trump is still thinking like a real estate businessman, i.e. everybody can be bought off with enough money to give up their land, so that the real estate company can then claim it

But international diplomacy is more than just about money - ya have to consider that peoples have dignities too that they won't give up. And unless ya address that part of the equation as well, ya won't realize what ya have to do

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Peter 14:

Palestine must have full and complete sovereignty over its territories, air space and waterways including its exclusive economic zone. A right to a full military establishment including army, air force and navy.

You do realize that the term "Palestine" refers to the entire territorry of Syria, Jordan, Israel, the West Bank, Gazah, and the Sinai, do you? Or did you miss that?

-14 ( +0 / -14 )

Havent seen the details of this "plan", but that the "Palestinians" aka muslim Arabs reject anything that recognizes the existance of Israel is a given.

Trump made a mistake by wading into this unsolvable mess, but then again all American presidents have done this.

Best he can do is support the popular uprising in Iran and try to return Iran to the secular state it was before the islamic revolution. With Iran friendly to Israel (as it was before the Khomeini takeover), a lot of the problems in the area would diminish.

-14 ( +0 / -14 )

@Peter14

The only viable peace plan is already backed by the international community in the boundaries set in 1967 before Israel took over Gaza and the West Bank.

Exactly.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

This has been wrongly labelled a proposed "peace deal". This is not even close to being either a peace deal or fair to both parties. This offering is everything that Israel wants and nothing the Palestinians want except a label of a Palestinian state in name only.

It is so sad that anyone could honestly consider this offer a viable peace deal. It is not!

The only viable peace plan is already backed by the international community in the boundaries set in 1967 before Israel took over Gaza and the West Bank. Settlements in Palestinian areas must be vacated and left intact for Palestinian families who were displaced in the creation of the state of Israel, as compensation.

Palestine must have full and complete sovereignty over its territories, air space and waterways including its exclusive economic zone. A right to a full military establishment including army, air force and navy.

Trump offers nothing. Netanyahu offers nothing and does not rule out further land grabs in the future. How is that a peace deal? Lets call it what it is. Highway robbery and an offer from those who have, to people they believe are senseless imbeciles if they think Palestinians would ever accept such a rubbish offer.

Start again. This "offer" wont fly...EVER!

9 ( +9 / -0 )

The only one brave enough (or dumb enough) to call out what is happening in America was soon to be former-congresswoman Ilhan Omar.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

The plan is perfect except for the "Peace" part of it. Trump's deal making expertise forgot that a deal has to have both sides willing tp agree to it. How inept - looks like a distraction from Trump's impeachment...

The Root Cause of All Evil post-1967

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Hmmmmm.....  For those who think that Jews "thrive" in other Middle Eastern countries I think you are sorely deluded.  Iran is mentioned above.  There are less than 10,000 Jews left in Iran.  That is a dramatic drop from the position (say) 50 or so years ago.  and the situation is the same in many other countries.  Fact is that since the rise of Arab nationalism the old Muslim tolerance for Jews has changed to visceral hatred.  Exacerbated by the creation of the State of Israel after WW2.

ANY plan short of giving all of the "Palestinian" land to some Palestinian ruling class will fail.  Even then highly likely that many in the Arab and Muslim world will continue to question the legitimacy of the State of Israel.

Armageddon still not entirely out of the question.

@Jimizo

According to your interpretation which means pretty much nothing here.

I'm not interpreting anything. I just quoted what Jesus said. Anyway, how can anyone interpret 'Love thy neighbor as thyself' as condoning land grabbing, oppression and murder?

This is why people like yourself should be in favour of keeping religion out of politics.

That would mean that irreligious people can voice an opinion according to thier conscience but religious people can't, which would be discriminatory.

In a democracy we all have the power to outvote bad ideas regardless of either religious or secular origin or reasoning.

Ps: I understand the wariness towards religious people, considering the poor behavior of some highlighted here. But calling for thier exclusion from public debate is not fair. We don't call for the exclusion of atheists due to the behavior of Stalin, Mao Tse Tung and Pol Pot, do we?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

In other news, Trump has also endorsed Germany's annexation of western Poland.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Trump's evangelical advisors who egg him on to back Israel are dead wrong on this issue.

Says who?

Says Jesus,

According to your interpretation which means pretty much nothing here.

I’m glad you are against these headbangers but they are a threat to peace along with messianic Jewish settlers and brutal Islamists. This is why people like yourself should be in favour of keeping religion out of politics.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

@Raw Beer

If Trump truly wanted to solve this problem and if he actually had any real power, all he would have to do is to block all aid to Israel until they returned to the 1967 border and started respecting international law. That's it, problem solved.

Great idea which I would support.

But it won't work because the Israelis would rather die than cede land and power, because they erroneously think they have a divine right to the 'Promised Land'.

The only thing that will remove them from occupied territories is military force, which is not a good solution.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

@Jimizo

Trump's evangelical advisors who egg him on to back Israel are dead wrong on this issue.

Says who?

Says Jesus, whom those evangelicals supposedly follow. Jesus said 'Love thy neighbor', not brutally oppress them, steal thier land etc.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Trump's evangelical advisors who egg him on to back Israel are dead wrong on this issue.

Says who? On what or whose authority are you saying this? There are clearly enough evangelicals out there for Trump to please by doing this. Trump isn’t the first to do this and he almost certainly won’t be the last.

The US needs to get these crackpots in line or at least ignore them if it is to be seen as a fair or even sane player here.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Trump's evangelical advisors who egg him on to back Israel are dead wrong on this issue. Jesus himself, whom they supposedly follow, would never support the Israelis brutal occupation and oppressive treatment of the Palestinians.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

The problem is with the Palestinians and the Israelis. They both want the same land. They both feel it's their land. Historically they both have claims to it. Both sides will have to make concessions if they don't want perpetual war.

So why do you support plans which blatantly favour one group over the other? Shouldn’t the approach at least attempt to be even-handed?

8 ( +8 / -0 )

President Trump is way off track on this issue. While I'm sure there's sincerety in his attempt he's biased towards Israel, no doubt influenced by his many Jewish relatives and friends as well as theologically misguided Christian advisors.

This proposal is another slap in the face to the Palestinians and so of course they rightly rejected it.

Israel will never concede enough land or power to reach a reasonable settlement. They have absolutely no intention whatsoever of doing so. Any 'peace plans' they propose are only fakes designed to prompt rejection and then to blame the Palestinians for 'not being willing to negotiate', blah blah blah. Thus the status quo is prolonged and they continue further land grabbing, annexing, etc.

May God have mercy on the poor Palestinians.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Also, Muslims and Jews can live together. Just look at Iran, which has a thriving Jewish community; they do not want to move to Israel.

Serrano Today 09:23 am JST

Yeah, have you ever looked at a map of Israel and the surrounding countries? Iran still calls for the destruction of Israel and that's what would happen under the 2000 deal.

Even if that is true, how many other states should be allowed to keep illegally held land due to ostensible claims of national security? They should be told to eat the loss.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

What is so frustrating is that the solution is so incredibly simple. If Trump truly wanted to solve this problem and if he actually had any real power, all he would have to do is to block all aid to Israel until they returned to the 1967 border and started respecting international law. That's it, problem solved.

RIGHT ON THE MONEY! Well said!

8 ( +9 / -1 )

Don't tell me, this plan was cooked up by Jared 'The Expert' Kushner while he was in elementary school. What next, Ivanka Trump as a Palestinian expert?

5 ( +9 / -4 )

When all those people give up the religion and live like a normal human being then there will be no problem of co-existence.

Well, they aren’t going to do that in the immediate future so what do you propose doing in the meantime?

Perhaps if the US, particularly the Republicans, gave up pandering to evangelical Christians by supporting one-sided deals in favour of Israel, we get somewhere. There are three religions causing problems in this area.

All that time and money down the drain.....

4 ( +10 / -6 )

Another sordid chapter of the Roadblock to Peace, presented by the current occupant of the White House, with the main purpose of distracting the public from the serious political difficulties of the leaders of Israel and the United States of America.

This particular chapter is even more complicated than previous ones as the U.S. Embassy has moved from Tel Aviv to occupied Jerusalem, and the illegal Jewish settlements were unilaterally declared legal.

The United Sates of America has never been an honest broker in the dispute between Palestine and Israel. It’s always been tilted to the disadvantage of the Palestinian and even more under the current U. S. administration.

Enough already.

2 ( +10 / -8 )

Yeah, have you ever looked at a map of Israel and the surrounding countries?

Have you ever looked at the map of Palestine over time, from the early 1900's to today?

What is so frustrating is that the solution is so incredibly simple. If Trump truly wanted to solve this problem and if he actually had any real power, all he would have to do is to block all aid to Israel until they returned to the 1967 border and started respecting international law. Whatever Obama did or didn't do during his presidency is irrelevant now. He's gone,

Happy!

and Trump is the President. And Donny came into the Presidency boasting about how he was The Man who was going to fix the problems in the Middle East.

That’s what he’s trying to do. So what alternatives do the Democrats have besides complaining which they do daily on every liberal network, what’s their solution? Only thing the Democrats care about is removing this president from office, nothing else occupies their psyche

-4 ( +8 / -12 )

Serrano: How come Nobel Peace Prize winner Obama didn't come up with a better one?

Obama was busy trying to get Bibi to stop murdering the peace plan with more settlements. Trump gave them the green light.

Which makes his deal a waste of time.

Besides, aren't you getting tired of saying, "What about Obama?" instead of "Look at Trump's great accomplishment'?

1 ( +9 / -8 )

The deep rooted problem is not land.... The fact is that Israelis are jews and Palastine people are muslims. They can not live together..........

The fact is Israelis call themselves jews and the Palestinians are Muslim and Christian. Palestine used to also include Jews, and all three religions lived together in peace... until zionists started to brutally steal Palestinian land. This IS about land and this Kushner Plan (AKA Trump Plan) is just another land grab.

Also, Muslims and Jews can live together. Just look at Iran, which has a thriving Jewish community; they do not want to move to Israel.

4 ( +12 / -8 )

Yeah, have you ever looked at a map of Israel and the surrounding countries?

No I actually lived in the area. Have you?

Iran still calls for the destruction of Israel and that's what would happen under the 2000 deal.

That's utter BS. Under the 2000 deal Iran was 100% on board with full recognition and so was Hamas and Hezbollah. That's a fact. Israel rejected that. It would have meant FULL RECOGNITION AND NORMALIZATION from all the parties in the middle east. Sorry, but that's just a fact.

7 ( +13 / -6 )

No one can be particularly surprised if the Palestinians reject a plan that turns most of their future state into enclaves within Israeli territory, especially given their current propensity to blockade Palestinian territory. In short, it turns Palestine into West Berlin, accessed by travelling through Israel.

Israel made some major concessions in the plan

Care to name them?

Let's see what the article says:

The only concession the plan appears to demand of Israel is a four-year freeze on the establishment of new Israeli settlements in certain areas of the West Bank. But Netanyahu clarified later that this only applied to areas where there are no settlements and Israel has no immediate plans to annex, and that he considered the plan to impose no limitations on construction.
