Correct, as far the swamp (the deep state, the neocons, and the neolibs) is concerned. However, Trump is not a swamp creature, to the contrary he is trying to drain it. Of course, the swamp is not happy about that.

Pretty much trumps entire inner circle has been arrested for lying, talking to Russians, and various illegality.

You guys chanted about a supposed swamp, then Trump went and created one. And the morons rejoice.

Trump has accomplished more in a year that all previous administraions in regard to the NK issue

How? The US stance has weakened (war games canceled at Kim’s demand) and the Kim’s position has been strengthened, with NK playing the exact same game they always have.

Only the deluded think Trump has accomplished anything with NK.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

William Bjornson:

trump cannot allow reunification under any circumstances. If Hanguk and Bukhan reconcile, our military occupation of the peninsula is OVER.

If you want peace in Korea and fewer stupid foreign wars, better pray for Trumps health. Remember that Kennedy also went against the CIA.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

This is on-going diplomatic sparring. The Trump hating corporate media are an embarrassement. Already Trump has accomplished more in a year that all previous administraions in regard to the NK issue, and yet the ridiculous fanatic media grasp at every straw to turn it into a negative story.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

It is a very sad situation , why does trump thinks that he speaks and the world must listen ???. The only person listening to him is abe. That's all.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Yes, you get a lot more with honey than with vinegar.

Hah, again you make statements that conflict with other things you’ve said. When Obama used ‘honey’ you called him an apologist.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

bass: of course he doesn’t believe Kim, so what’s he supposed to say?

He's supposed to say that he believes him and took him at his word, right?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Trump believes Kim.

This is why liberals get I wrong, of course he doesn’t believe Kim, so what’s he supposed to say? You’re lying and then go back to saber rattling again. That’s an emotional visceral and typical liberal reaction. He’s gotten this far and if you want to continue to keep the dialogue it doesn’t hurt a little bit too butter his edges. Obama believed the Mullahs that’s why he made that stupid deal it in the end it was disastrous for Israel and Saudi Arabia. He did the right thing by walking away and both Nancy and Chuck and most of the Democrats agreed with the president.

He believes MBS. He believes Putin.

Uh-huh...lol

See a pattern forming yet?

Yes, you get a lot more with honey than with vinegar.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Ho Chi Minh is laughing in the afterlife

You should know that Ho Chi Minh badly wanted US support in unifying Vietnam - helping US troops during the war, and quoting Abraham Lincoln. The geniuses at the CIA and in the White House decided to brush him off and forced him into choosing Soviet and Chinese backing.

So when people say Trump should defer to those who have experience and "know what they are doing" I just have to laugh.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Trump believes Kim. He believes MBS. He believes Putin.

See a pattern forming yet?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

You think incorrectly.

I’m sure Putin and the people in Crimea would disagree with you.

Dang straight - just ask Osama Bin Laden....oh, that's right, you can't....

I definitely praise Trump supporter and the man hat killed him: Rob O’Neill.

Yea, he failed to do his homework, didn't engage any of his diplomatic or military experts,

praised a dictator that punishes generations for a small infraction, and got absolutely nothing except leaving town while his personal attorney lays out all his crimes and corruption....

Exactly! He didn’t get anything and neither did Kim. Reagan didn’t get anything either in Reykjavík and every single liberal was harping on him as well, although, I must say that Nancy and Chuck do you agree with the president, so that’s good news as long as they approve I guess something is going right. As for Cohen, seems like he’s in A bit of hot water now because of him lying once again about not wanting to be part of the trump White House team, CNN tape with Chris Cuomo emerged as him saying the opposite.

Oops!

What a genius!

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Ahhhhh, it’s the color thing again, right? Lol

I think the problem was with Obama, he always approached everything from an apologetic and appeasement standpoint. If it means capitulation or giving in to our adversaries he would do that and that is the main reason why so many people were skeptical if he engaged in talks with these people.

Dang straight - just ask Osama Bin Laden....oh, that's right, you can't....

Positive change. Thanks, Trump. Only you could tell your base to accept this new reality, and only they would obey.

Huh? So Trump was just supposed to do what Obama did and just make any deal to get a win and just lift sanctions to appease Kim? Didn’t happen and won’t happen. He did the right thing, just like Reagan did with Gorbachev in Reykjavik. There will be other deals and at least they’be built what seems to be a growing and stronger relationship. A no deal is always better than a bad deal.

Yea, he failed to do his homework, didn't engage any of his diplomatic or military experts, praised a dictator that punishes generations for a small infraction, and got absolutely nothing except leaving town while his personal attorney lays out all his crimes and corruption....

He's achieved way more than his Nobel Peace prize winning predecessor ever did with NK

How so? More missiles were fired off during his first year than in 8 years of Obama, the US position on NK is weaker now than it was when Obama left office, and Kim's position at home has been made stronger through showing his people that the leader of America is willing to meet with him.

So please, what exactly has he achieved in your eyes?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

He's achieved way more than his Nobel Peace prize winning predecessor ever did with NK

3 ( +3 / -0 )

And this is a welcomed change. When Obama said he would talk to anyone, Fox and the right were “outraged” that he would even announce that he would talk to others. Now that the white President has done it they’ve all done a 180 and support talking.

Ahhhhh, it’s the color thing again, right? Lol

Washington to the Globe: We will decide your President/PM, we will decide your foreign policy, we will decide with whom you will trade, we will decide you're political system.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Incredible...

It's not a surprise that someone who can't think for themselves would be shocked by those that can. HAR!

2 ( +2 / -0 )

As I have previously said, the US will do anything to sabotage any possibility of reunification as they use this division to justify their basis in SK and Japan. This makes SK and Japan the targets rather than mainland US in any military dispute. Under no circumstances should NK denuclearise until both the US and Israel do likewise. Iraq gave up its nuclear program, Afghanistan has no nuclear program, Libya has no nuclear program, Syria has  no nuclear program and look how they are under the hell of the US. And now Venezuela is being threatened with US invasion. Be a nuclear State or be under US domination.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

@William Bjornson Your avatar is the Eagle, Globe and Anchor, the emblem of the United States Marine Corp, and yet you say "If Hanguk and Bukhan reconcile, our military occupation of the peninsula is OVER....  The only 'problem' between Hanguk and Bukhan at this time is the reluctance of the U.S. to give up its bases in Korea. Korea was NEVER our enemy so why have we militarily occupied their country for these last ~70 years? FREE SOUTH KOREA FROM US"

Incredible...

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

Yes, we should stay in and Russia gets to do whatever they want, continue to build advance long-range ICBMs and we just watch and do nothing. This is why liberals scare me, that Obama style thinking would get all of us killed.

Isn't this article about the DPRK and Dimwit Donny?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

trump cannot allow reunification under any circumstances. If Hanguk and Bukhan reconcile, our military occupation of the peninsula is OVER. War ends and Hanguk will evict, if necessary, the large number of American forces we have there. But Kim is smarter, way smarter than our current administration in toto. If you recall (you don't), Kim amazed everyone when he threw 'negotiation' on the table and it was taken seriously unlike all other offers from Bukhan. Why? Because Kim chose the very week that trump's relationship with Ms Stormy Daniels was just being revealed and trump was deep in stormy denials. DISTRACTION! Kim steps in and trump MUST make a show of taking it seriously. Shrewd move, Mr. Kim. trump met Kim, nothing. Now, trump met Kim. Nothing. On purpose. Again, trump and the Pentagon have been boxed in by Kim's excellent diplomacy and ability to manipulate trump even if the U.S. is still stonewalling the Koreans. The Bukhan message is slowly filtering out: trump is the obstructionist while playing the people that he is serious about 'allowing' the two halves to reunite into a larger and more complete national identity. 'Allowing' a sovereign country to fix itself. We have NO RIGHT to even be part of this negotiation. Again, the Pogo Principle bares itself like a latent, now fulminating, disease staining our democracy. The only 'problem' between Hanguk and Bukhan at this time is the reluctance of the U.S. to give up its bases in Korea. Korea was NEVER our enemy so why have we militarily occupied their country for these last ~70 years? FREE SOUTH KOREA FROM US! Let these people be, and mend themselves as they see fit.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

good move by Trump.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Personally, I'd rather be wrong about him and see him succeed.

Me too. But that's not going to stop me from criticizing him for failing. After all, he's the best negotiator in the world. No one knows negotiation better than him. And Kim is his best friend, a real stand-up dictator.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

I’m happy with the results. He accomplished nothing but he didn’t give away the farm.

Serrano: Heck, even Bernie Sanders praised Trump for talking to Kim in his efforts to secure peace in Korea.

And this is a welcomed change. When Obama said he would talk to anyone, Fox and the right were “outraged” that he would even announce that he would talk to others. Now that the white President has done it they’ve all done a 180 and support talking.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Peace Process's don't throw up results overnight. Rome was not built in a day.

But a point has been reached where each side does not feel threatened by the other.

On that I am positive about the future with these two summits and I hope that the re-unification of NK and SK continues on track.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

It took 10 meetings with Soviet Russian to end the Cold War.

Simpletons do not understand. Simpletons who want an aggressive and nuclear North Korea, simply out of spite over losing an election, is grotesque, morally repugnant and absolutely shameful. Millions of lives are at stake.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

So many Trump "expert" haters here.

doesnt take an expert to hate Trump, he does that all by himself.

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

I'm glad I'm not the only one that realizes that all the Trump super-critics that complained how he was giving up too much for nothing in return are all changing their stories when he took a hardline stance and walked away.

More proof that people would rather see Trump fail at everything just because they hate him. Personally, I'd rather be wrong about him and see him succeed.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Boy, you know a lot people must reeeeeaaaallly hate Trump when they'd rather see him fall on his face over the off-chance that the world become just a little bit safer for their children's generation....

-2 ( +6 / -8 )

"You see, Chairman Kim, it's OK for our country to have nuclear weapons -- I mean, we're the USA. But it's not OK for your country to have them. You can understand that, right? So, shall we sign this agreement?"

"(aside - warm up my train -- we're outa here) Well, Mr. Trump, I don't think so -- not this time. I'll wait and try again in 2021 -- with your successor. Bye!"

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

That was a very expensive photo op. Trump goes to Vietnam, meets up with his buddy Kim, takes some nice photos to look good, then goes back to his hotel. All of this at taxpayers' hard earned money. And for what? I wouldn't be surprised if Trump and Kim planned all of this. They probably said to each other: Let's meet, take some nice photos to look like we're making peace for the press, then say we played hardball with each other. That way, we'll look good in front of our own people. You can keep your nukes, and I can make it seem as if I'm making some progress towards peace by being buddies with you. Trump may fool us once, but not again and again and again.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Well, well, well. A huge change in the narrative from Trump followers. Supporters who were on this site, demanding justice and retribution against Kim.

What?

This is quite significant and shows us, yet again, how the fanbase will stoop to defend their dear leader's support for dictators. Now that Kim has been lauded by Trump.

Ahem, the Democrats are the ones that yet, once again shift the goalpost, why? First they said...No, demanded that Trump came home empty handed last time, so they tell him don’t rush, he does just that and they still complain. Again, Trump could cure cancer, it wouldn’t make beans of a difference, their job is to overturn the election of a duly elected President.

*This is not the first time Mr Trump has expressed a willingness to believe a foreign leader.

And yet, the last President believed the Mullahs, they ain’t American, so...

*His response to Mr Kim echoes his reaction to Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding Russian interference in the 2016 US election. "Every time he sees me, he says, 'I didn't do that,'" Mr Trump said after meeting Mr Putin in Asia last year. "I really believe that when he tells me that, he means it." Amid backlash from lawmakers and US media over appearing to believe a foreign power over his own intelligence officials, Mr Trump later clarified his statements, saying he accepted the intelligence community's conclusion, but adding: "Could be other people also. A lot of people out there." More recently, with the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Mr Trump continued to defend Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman despite CIA officials believing the prince ordered the killing. "[It] could very well be that the crown prince had knowledge of this tragic event - maybe he did and maybe he didn't!"**

It doesn’t matter what the intelligence agency says because they aren’t the President and don’t have to talk to these leaders. But he wouldn’t be the first President to do this.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

You seem to be pretty happy to let your sickly PotUS let Russia lead, why the change of heart?

You seem to be happy that the shady Democrats are putting on this fake dog and pony show.

You'd have to ask a liberal. Do you understand that not everyone who disagrees with or defies your dear leader is not a liberal?

Every now and then, but the majority....

It's like saying all Trump supporters are nazis.

...or Democrats are Capitalists

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

A lot of eligible men didn't serve in the military during the Vietnam War. Are they all cowards too?

Depends. Did they do everything they could to get out of the service and then make statements to the effect of " we only like the ones who didn't get caught"?

More has been accomplished in these two summits than during eight years of Obama, eight years of Bush before him and eight years of Clinton before him.

Really good of Moon to set this current climate for talks.

Heck, even Bernie Sanders praised Trump for talking to Kim in his efforts to secure peace in Korea.

Whose butt is he supposedly kissing? Can't be Kim's now can it? No deal and sanctions still on.

Only this time nothing was acciomplished

How so? He got nothing but a handshake.

Only this time nothing was acciomplished, but did we expect anything from this jerk? Kim is laughing, Ho Chi Minh is laughing in the afterlife and America is embarrassed again. This whole summit is a shameful wasteful SHAM.

Make America Great Again my fanny!!!

There were weeks of preparatory meetings. Why didn't any of this come up at these meetings? Seems like they wasted their time and lots of US tax payers dollars.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

His predecessors will lift sanctions if they were demanded by N. Korean regime. However, the President won't do it without doing meaningful denuclearize N. Korea.

N. Korean regime must realize the President Trump is not Clinton or Obama. If the N. Korean regime wants the sanctions lift and then the N. Korean must honest and do the right thing what the world wanted to see.

The President Trump won't be wasted times for nothing. He was right to end the summit early.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

I expect things will get better. You don’t come out of 60-70 years of a Cold War with just a few meetings. There’s good faith on both sides. Keep going Trump & Kim.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

These two summits are already more progress than we ever saw under 8 years with Obama and he still got a Nobel Prize.

riperez - You said U.S. policy is to disarm all nations. This is false.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Serrano: The US sells arms only to nations it controls, dominates. Essentially these nations are buying arms under US demand and to support US domination.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

At least Trump didn't give anything for nothing, like happened in the past.

President Clinton promised to lift decades-old sanctions, supply the North with 500,000 tons of oil a year and provide $4 billion in aid to construct a light-water reactor capable of producing nuclear energy but not weapons.

The USA didn't follow through on their side of the agreement when a new Congress was elected.

By 1998, the North had secretly restarted its weapons program with

technology purchased from the Pakistani scientist A. Q. Khan, and by

2003, the agreement was completely abandoned.

Under Bush-2,

The deal, which was briefly enforced, traded food aid for a suspension

in weapons building, and the United States removed North Korea from its

list of state sponsors of terrorism.

The North Koreans successfully gamed the United States.

Mr. Obama hoped that the North would eventually feel it had reason to

negotiate and make a good-faith effort at talks. Instead the North

pursued its weapons program and launched a series of cyberattacks on

American businesses, including Sony Pictures.

In September 2016, he tested a nuclear warhead that he claimed could fit on a long-range missile.

I'm also, slightly encouraged that Trump isn't acting like a 4 yr old, at least with NK. He's still a crook, but may finally be learning a little diplomacy. Can't be sure yet. NK has been a tough nut to engage.

Ideally, the USA goal is for a reunited Korea under the current SK govt. Let the families be reunited, let the North and South intermingle and prosper together, and let them be on the world stage as an economic and peaceful nation. Alas, the current NK leadership and militaries (perhaps on S and N sides), don't want that. I can see where other nations in the area might not want it either, including Japan, China, Vietnam, and some places known for cheap labor which have used cheap NK labor previously.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

rlperez: US foreign policy is to disarm all nations

That must be why the U.S. is the world's biggest arms seller. By far. There goes that argument, eh?

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Two zero-negociators with the biggest egos in a room.

What Can you expect honestly?

0 ( +2 / -2 )

"North Korean demands to lift punishing U.S.-led sanctions." These sanctions are not US-led, they are sanctions which the US ORDERED the Western Wimps (Western Powers) impose. NK has two choices: keep your nuclear program and keep your sovereignty or give up your nuclear program and surrender your sovereignty and be under the heel of the US. NK look at Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya. Even the foreign policy of the Western Wimps is totally dictated by Washington. Venezuela has no nuclear program and so the US is finding an excuse to invade and install a Washington puppet. Iran has no nuclear program, as verified by the UN, but the US continues to place more sanctions. US foreign policy is to disarm all nations so there can be no resistance to US domination.

“Those prisons are rough, they’re rough places and bad things happened. But I don’t believe he knew about it,” Trump said. “He tells me he didn’t know about it and I will take him at his word."

Trump, speaking about the death of American Otto Warmbier.

Trump also said, "He knew the case very well, but he knew it later. "In those prisons and those camps you have a lot of people. And some really bad things happened to Otto, some really, really bad things. He tells me that he didn't know about it, and I will take him at his word."

It is possible that Kim himself was unaware of the treatment of Otto until it was too late. We may never know. Certainly you don't know, Super.

And instead of calling Kim a liar and embarrassing him, he is being what is called diplomatic. I know you can't bring yourself to believe that Trump could ever be diplomatic but that is what he's doing.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

This is great news. Sanctions will stay in place! South Korea's policy has failed and PM Abe 's policy of max pressure will stay in place. It is a major victory for PM Abe!

As far as Moon's SK which wishes to unite the peninsula sooner or later is concerned, denuclearization must be a secondary issue or possibly something it wants not to happen.

As for Japan, unless it dares to ignore international community, which it cannot, there is nothing much it can do to rescue the abductees. They are NK's valuable hostage.

The only option left is sending special force Silmido and take Kim and the guys around him or rearming Japan with nukes for re-balancing nuclear deterrent in Asia though Japan might give up rescuing the abductees when either one happens.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

The biggest loser to this is ROK Mon administration.

Now he is stuck between a rock and a hard place in which neither side would actively consider them as an ally due to the recent events and status.

I can see Mon seriously considering political asylum to PRC or try to seek refugee at his dughter's place who fled the ship before it sank.LoL

I hear about giving Kim legitimacy. We should not talk to trump either, as it would give Trump legitimacy. Many believe the Russians were behind the election, so he can be no more legitimate than Maduro. The speaker of the house is the interim and true president, just as in Venezuela, right?

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Correctly and astutely handled by President Trump.

The US is lightyears closer to securing a peaceful N Korea than ever before.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Whereas his DPKR counterpart comes out of this looking very virile, indeed.

Virile, of course the primary trait some would seek in a leader. We do prefer one fully engaged in border and international security.

Don't worry - no need for "headwrecking"! The word is the DPRK issues immigrant visas for like-minded fools, espec. the infantile ones.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

I think Kim might have bigger hands.

lol

so why the emergency big hurry stuff about the wall?

Guess he desperately needs to erect that symbol of manhood, that wall. Otherwise, if he can't get it up, he looks less potent to his worshippers.

Whereas his DPKR counterpart comes out of this looking very virile, indeed.

A very headwrecking day, no doubt about it.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Not in any hurry? No need for speed?

so why the emergency big hurry stuff about the wall?

just wondering?

4 ( +7 / -3 )

This is great news. Sanctions will stay in place!

Not great news for the people of the DPRK. But nobody gives a damn about them, seemingly.

South Korea's policy has failed and PM Abe 's policy of max pressure will stay in place. It is a major victory for PM Abe!

Also, the moon is made of cheese.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

Like anyone one would be surprise and expected a different outcome. After so many president fail with negotiation,is not like this one would be any different. NK main goal had always been trying to lift santions and continue their way of life. Now with SK being on good relationship again, there is no way they should care about US. Their economy could keep going with China and SK help.

The North Koreans thought Trump was vulnerable due to the Mueller investigation and Cohen telling lies and trying to make him look bad. They thought they could get away with a bad deal that Trump would accept. They were wrong.

Yes, we should stay in and Russia gets to do whatever they want, continue to build advance long-range ICBMs and we just watch and do nothing. This is why liberals scare me, that Obama style thinking would get all of us killed.

What's the point in having such talks when the US will eventually threaten, betray and belittle other nations?

That the US is not going to be plunked anymore by other nations.

Better to walk away politely -- like President RR did in Iceland with Gorby -- than agree to a bad deal.

I don't think the top leadership knew about it. Those prisons are rough.... He tells me that he didn’t know about it, and I will take him at his word.

So, case closed, I guess. And to think Abe had put a gram of hope in Trump's ability to elucidate the fate of Japanese kidnapees....

Im glad he didn’t give anything away for free. I was very, very worried about that.

Better to walk away politely -- like President RR did in Iceland with Gorby -- than agree to a bad deal. The only thing Kim achieved his Hanoi meeting with our President was continued sanctions on his country.

'I believe Kim about Otto Warmbier.' WTH.

Well.......this distraction is done! Time to move onto the next do nothing action. I predict as more news comes out from the Cohen testimony. I perceive another domestic issue will be created to distract.

Isn't time for Ghouliani to be pulled out of mothballs to make an appearance?

I thought that 'negotiations' consisted of each side making its demands then talking them down until both parties arrive at a mutually acceptable compromise not just walking out when you can't get your own way.

Negotiations include all kinds of tactics. Walking out is one of them. Watch and learn.

If you're going to button mash and complain about ways to fix a 70 year old problem, could you enlighten us on the best way forward that hasn't been tried? Please. We'll wait.

Well, dialogue, a basic comprehension of geopolitics, the history between the participants and preparation often help. Trump has shown himsel to be incapable of all these necessities.

Vague talk about deals that aren't written down, playing up to the home audience, and talk of rockets flying and signing up to the local recruitment centre are not helpful.

Again, proper and honest dialogue, rather than aggressive threats can, and should do better.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Trump, ya' didn't get the job done....your fired!

9 ( +9 / -0 )

Trump has a hissy fit and goes home.

Here's the real story:

Trump said Kim built on this Thursday, pledging to dismantle the Yongbyon nuclear facility if all sanctions imposed on the country were lifted first. They could not do that, Trump said. A lot more weaponry were not included, though United States would be able to inspect some North Korean facilities.

"Sometimes you have to walk,” he said. Kim had a vision of denuclearization, that's "not exactly our vision, but it's a lot closer than it was a year ago."

Kim said of the denuclearization goal: “If I’m not willing to do that, I won’t be here right now.” Trump said the two leaders could have signed a deal Thursday. “But it’s better to do it right than do it fast,” he said.

Meanwhile, as expected, the brownies dutifully guffawed and patted each other on their left, infantile backsides.

Gdod effort, President Trump! The vast majority of the world's audience agree. After 70 years of impotent pretenders, we finally have one leader getting the job done.

One is allowed to be sceptical about these talks without the threat of conflict

when the rockets resume, kindly sign up at the nearest army recruitment center of your respective countries and put your money where your mouth is.

I'd rather your heroic dear leaders make a more concerted effort to compromise, instead of the vanity excercise this summit turned out to be.

One is allowed to be sceptical about these talks without the threat of conflict.

Where is the Japanese abductess issue? How many seconds they spent over here?

Who cares? This is about preventing nuclear crisis. Not Japanese that were abducted generations ago and have no interest in coming back to Japan.

That was his point hence “seconds.”

Summits like this should never take place unless both sides are sure an agreement can be reached. The whole idea is for negotiators to work out the details in advance, so the leaders can sign an agreement. The problem is that Trump doesn't listen to his advisers or negotiators. He does things on instinct. Like at the summit in Singapore last year, when he canceled the war games in South Korea without telling his Defense Secretary Mattis anything about it beforehand.

This was about Two people who enjoy being in the limelight. JT posters correctly predicted nothing was going to happen.

Seeing as most naysayers offer absolutely no other viable alternative, when the rockets resume, kindly sign up at the nearest army recruitment center of your respective countries and put your money where your mouth is. Thanks.

Any challenge from within (if it were to happen at all) would likely produce another unscrupulous so-and-so from the military brass

@Bungle, you're probably right. I don't think the impoverished peasants of NK have been in any position to do much anyway. The long game was perhaps to keep them contained and hope for an East German style miracle.

Summits like this should never take place unless both sides are sure an agreement can be reached.

Agreed. It all seemed so rushed, as if everyone was eager to get home. Didn't the Americans have any idea what Kim's demands were before they shipped the whole circus to 'Nam? Trump seems so uncomfortable being anywhere except the golf course or in front of the telly with a burger.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

A hastily organised summit last year with vague, non-binding promises and blatant bs about no more threat posed.

Hardly surprising this did not go well. But hey, the two dear leaders got their photo ops in.

Perhaps Trump has something weighing on his mind? Something domestic?

Here's hoping the next summit is more productive. But please, no talk of "winning". This is no victory, for either nation.

America demands that North Korea give up all its nuclear weapons and missiles.

Korea asks that America lift its sanctions

I also think Cohen's testimony rattled him and his mind was not on the summit.

He is so incompetent. I wonder if there is any leader in the world that respects Trump.

Trump says talks with Kim failed over N Korean sanctions demands

This should have been discussed/sorted out prior to the summit.

Bit of a 'all that for 'this'?' feeling right now.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

He is also running back home to deal with criminal charges against him, his family, and business partners.

lol! Go get em Cohen!

9 ( +11 / -2 )

Ah well Trump can always go to Marlago for a game of golf and chocolate cake.

At the expensive of millions dollars, that his country club charges the American people everytime the family visits one of his businesses. He goes to his properties to hide from the job, and charge all the staffers and security to stay there with him at a premium.

He scamming everyone which his base likes because that is what they would do.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

The obvious parallel here is the Cuban Thaw Obama initiated. Among Obama's critics at the time:

-Senator Marco Rubio of Florida. Rubio, a Cuban-American Republican, said that "diplomatic recognition [would] provide legitimacy to a government that doesn't deserve it."

-Senator Bob Menendez, a Cuban-American Democrat from New Jersey and chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee was an early critic of Obama's decision to normalize relations with Cuba. Writing in USA Today on December 17, Menendez criticized Obama "for compromising on bedrock U.S. values", charging that the Obama administration "has wrongly rewarded a totalitarian regime and thrown the Cuban regime an economic lifeline".

-Republican Senator Ted Cruz of Texas described the policy as a "tragic mistake."

This sounded wrongheaded at the time and those saying talking w/NK now sound about the same. Talk to everyone, at all times. You don't have to concede anything. Talking and establishing some level of trust is diplomacy 101. We can hate Trump and still recognize when he's at least attempting to do something good (even if it's for self-serving reasons, legacy, a Nobel, a distraction). Intellectual honesty demands it. Just like it demands calling out his administration for their foolish moves re: Cuba, Iran and most recently Venezuela.

Had President Trump given in to North Korea’s demands then there would be criticism-he didn’t and there is still criticism.

Pretty pathetic posters on this forum....

-1 ( +7 / -8 )

I believe this summit has revealed, formally, that Pyongyang is not prepare to enter negotiations in good faith, and commit to any form of complete verifiable and irreversible denuclearization. Just demand all sanctions be lifted for some value ambiguous offer or pretence of denuclearization.

'lipstick on a pig'....is Hilary Clinton definition....

failed over N Korean sanctions demands

hold on I thought Trump said he'd have the NK problem sorted quickly, millions more $ down the drain for a total farce of a sumit. Ah well Trump can always go to Marlago for a game of golf and chocolate cake.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Trump gave legitimacy to Kim.

What exactly does that mean, considering that ignoring NK hasn’t yielded favourable results either.

I think it means that Kim's prestige & grip on his country has been immeasurably strengthened by the meetings, which makes the chances of his horrid regime being challenged from within NK greatly diminished. Some may argue that the chance of the regime crumbling were slim anyway.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

all the "he gave away the farm!" stories are now furiously being re-written.

So what is it now, he walked away instead of lifting sanctions! he should have lifted those and gotten nothing in return! the orange dotard!

President Trump has a somewhat inward-looking view of US forward base strategy. A zero sum mentality.

South Korea/Japan hosts substantial military and navy forces that primarily, are a preventative measure to protect US interests, An example, South China Sea trade routes, but significantly provide both conventional, tactical, and strategic nuclear strike capabilities to deter missile attack on US towns and cities.

Trump on Otto:

“I really believe something very bad happened to him and I don’t believe the top leadership knew about it. And when he came back (and by the way I got the hostages back) ... Otto came back in a terrible state.

“I don’t believe that [Kim] would have allowed that to happen,”

“Those prisons are rough. They’re rough places and bad things happen but I don’t believe he knew about it.”

Sound familiar? Mbs? Putin? Lol.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Just talking is a good thing take of the blinders

Talking can be very dangerous, its what started the massive amount of missile tests from NK over Japan in the first place. Thanks to Trump, of course.

Nobel Peace Prize - No

Booby Prize - Yes

Maybe now that Trump is in Vietnam, he can visit the final resting place of the soldier who took his spot.

lolz More missiles flew in the first year of Trump's administration than in any other year prior. Perhaps you feel we should praise the arsonist for putting out his own fire, but I certainly don't/.

Just talking is a good thing take of the blinders

Is it though? Is it worth legitimizing a murderous dictatorship? What, precisely, was gained? I feel we Americans have debased ourselves even being seen in public with the likes of such a murderous tyrant.

11 ( +14 / -3 )

Well, another replay of Summit #1 - Trump gets taken to the cleaners and gets nothing in return.

Kim goes home to an adoring, if hypnotized, populace saying he met one-on-one with the President of the strongest country in the world - and that shows he too is a "world-stage" leader - just like his grandfather...

And the cult of personality continues - aided and abetted by "The Apprentice"...and he keeps his nukes and missiles...

The Art of the Fail....

As long as he didn’t give away anything for nothing again, credit for trying I guess.

Trump gave legitimacy to Kim.

4 ( +10 / -6 )

Someone said it best the other day. They are there just for the snacks and cameras.

I can understand North Korea’s legitimate concerns over denuclearization. They give up nuclear capabilities but still must live under the umbrella that there are nuclear missiles that close to them.

“I've been saying very much from the beginning that speed is not that important to me. I very much appreciate no testing of nuclear rockets, missiles, any of it, very much appreciate it," Trump told reporters before his session with Kim. "Chairman Kim and myself, we want to do the right deal."

Phrases like this shows that Trump has actually grown in his role.

The master negotiator wins again!

oh wait. Un walked away further legitimized. What did Trump get? Bueller? Bueller?

13 ( +19 / -6 )

Unfortunate. Nevertheless, dialogue and friendly relations are a welcome improvement over the previous situation.

-10 ( +6 / -16 )

Well, it didn't quite achieve zero results, he did get to legitimize a murderous dictator.

11 ( +18 / -7 )

Rodman should of been at the meeting.
